Question Z Fold 3 battery life discussion - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

Hi to all F3 owners hope your enjoying your new toy?
Only query / disappointment for me so far is that battery life is nowhere near as good on Fold 3 as it was with Fold 2.
1.5 hours light usage today and I am down to 58% - mostly indoors and on WiFi
I expected the latest Snapdragon 888 to have as good of not better power management than last year's CPU.
What is other F3 owner's experience?

WhatsApp has been running for 25 mins and eaten ~30%? You have something deeper going on there it looks like.

Digital wellbeing is a battery eating feature itself. Turn it off and you will get more battery time.

I have similiar problems with battery. But in my case, it's Calls that take a lot battery, windows link too..

Believe it or not to today has been very light usage compared with a typical day
I have same Apps and settings as i had with my Fold2 so don't know what's up
Hopefully after a few more days of battery usage learning things will settle down

A completely different list of apps with top battery usage is shown with the 2 screen shots...hmmm

This happens with every release of every new phone. It always takes a few days for it to settle as it's downloading apps, settings, updates, etc. It's WAY too early to compare battery life. Give it a week.

Give it time to take a calibration and you to stop using your device not in the muscle memory you and the phone will develop.
Then they'll push a firmware upgrade that destroys all that hard work you and your new fold put in getting to know one another.

See Buds+ battery stat.
Only paired them with phone 2 hours ago to so recording 10 hours of background battery usage is quite an achievement
I reckon the battery usage stats are unreliable on my Fold3 ...

Estimated 15 hours on a full charge..... Spectacularly BAD if accurate long term
Battery drain (mostly standby) in first hour is 6%

Total app usage in 90 mins since coming off charge is 1.9%
Therefore standby drain is 4.1% per 90 mins. Not ideal.

I didn't notice a particular issue whith battery life on mine l nearly 10H of uptime with 35% remaining is alright in my book)

yah i definitly see what you mean

I'm having a 6h30 SOT with lot of web browsing and gaming with mainly usage of the big screen so not bad at all for me

Update: today I put !y SIM card in another phone and used Fold3 on WiFi only
Normal battery drain and good SOT
Can only hope September OTA improves network radio power consumption

Accubattery estimates 6hrs SOT time is, which I think is a out what I got from Fold2. My previous high battery drain does appear to have been network / radio related

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the ZTE Axon 7 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
One of the better SOT phones I've owned since coming from smaller 4.5 inch screens. I easily get 4 hours on a long day (16 -18 hours off the charger). I watched 2.5 hour movie the other day and did some more stuff. In 8 hours, I had over 5 hours of SOT with 47% battery left.

Does better battery stats require root? Does it read system stats or does it create its own?

I don't like gsam because it doesn't read the SOT from the system. It records it's own stats.
GSam battery monitor allows you to see the stock android battery stats and screen on time from there by going to the menu on the bottom right, clicking more and then Battery Use - Built In. If there is an easier way to get to stock android battery stats, I'd love to know.

What settings do you guys have setup? My battery is down to 27% after only 8.5 hours off the charger and not much video watching. How do you have your phone setup concerning gestures and everything? I use the fingerprint unlock and the double tap feature and so far I am not impressed with the battery.

Nothing special, really? It's basically stock, I just disabled some stock apps: Browser, calendar, stock email, Gmail, Hangouts, and stock messaging. Everything else is left alone.... I even installed the actual Facebook app (aka: battery eater) for the first time in a few years, since my battery can keep up now.

No screen on time. I am in an area where I get no service and was using WiFi, so today I turned on Airplane mode and then WiFi and it seems to work a lot better. though I still need to investigate is battery drain is bad when using the phone in normal service area.

This is the best phone I've owned in terms of battery life. With nova launcher and using nova's battery widget I can see my SOT. I average 5:30 which is alot for me. I have gotten as much as 6:40! This is all usually over 12-28 hrs. The phone is just phenomenal, just wish the camera was better.

I would believe it. I got about 5 hours in my last run. What I think ate up about 20% was listening to music through the speakers.. The phone drained faster than normal Witt the speakers on at max volume.. Which makes sense and is 5000% tolerable because how amazing they sound.
Furthermore, if I could get some stronger cell phone signal, that would help with screen on time too. I never have no signal, but I never see over two bars of signal either.
Sorry about double post.. Forgot to include second one..
Ok, I thought this was a battery beast but I think I was wrong. I don't expect any phone's battery indicator to be totally accurate but I've noticed that if I top the A7 up a little the battery doesn't drain *at all* for a long time. I've been letting it go down to 30% then topping it up to 40% where it stays without moving even while I'm streaming music and surfing for half an hour. Fishy.
I thought that as I was on about 3:30 sot at 40% I'd let it go down further to see if it would reach 5 hours. Three charging cycles in a row the phone has hit 19% and then reported that it's empty and shut down.

Lg g3 battery drain issue [ Tried normal methods % have screen shots ]

Guys im sorry but i have rushed a few replies to get the 10 posts but can you please not take this down i need to know if this is legit as my money back only lasts a certain amount
Ok so i bought a lg g3 from ebay, Its legit i have tested with antutu officer but it can get really hot and battery drains very quickly when watching movies and games.
My screen usage is always above 60% but i have screen on 30 seconds and 0% bright. My phone also says that i have used like 1000 mah at 50% but it should say 1500 mah.
I have a d851 and marshmallow and use my phone only with wifi no gps/nfc i also dont have background apps

Why should it say 1500 mah? The screen is not the only thing that drains the battery, you know that, right?
Running any benchmark will cause many battery drain. Don't do that. And that app you have to see the cpu temperature, 42º is not high for CPU. For battery it is.

What help? Get a new battery or go away from Snapdragon devices. And, the screen usage is about right, because i don't know if you know, but the screen you are staring at is 1440x2560, or 2K, which is an insane resolution, and crammed in a 5.5 inch display at 538 ppi, it will consume A LOT. And the battery is just 3AH, which seemed much, but compared to the S5, with a 1080p display and a 2.6AH battery, the G3 has the worst SOT out of the 2014 flagship lineup.

The 2K screen doesn't consume that much power. There are mods which allow you to lower the resolution, but you won't see much or any increase in battery life or performance (maybe in games it's going to be most noticeable).

Sounds like a bad battery. Quite possibly a reason why the other person decided to sell it in the first place. How old is the device that you purchases?
You can get an original replacement battery online for a few dollars. Just make sure you use a reputable vendor, like LG's official website.

Its brand new thats why i'm worried and i have downloaded a few battery checking apps and they say battery health is good.
But when i add up usage it totals lower then the battery capacity, they total up to 1000mah at 50%, when it should be 1500mah
Do you have any benchmarks i can try so i can see if its working right or its just me.

Oh so it's a brand new LG? How many hours of screen usage are you getting, what usage (web browsing, checking email or playing games?) and with what period of idle time.
Don't trust the numbers in the battery stats, especially in a new ROM. They are supposed to get better over time but I've found them to be wildly inaccurate even on months old ROM. I haven't really found an application you can benchmark accurately with.
But you compare with other (real) results on the foruns and rather you get the hang of what's the normal usage you should be getting out of a good battery.
Did you make a day without running any benchmark apps? What is your SOT? Standby time? Do you have location, wifi, bluetooth,NFC,mobile data on?
All of this matters. You shouldn't start right away with "I have problems with my battery" if you are running benchmark apps. Benchmark apps drains battery!
Wait a few days without running that apps and see how it manages. Another thing. The battery stats, the mah usage, not all of the things appears in the default android battery stats. And another thing, the battery value (the percentage of the battery), it is an approximation. Sometimes it could go up without charging, it is because it detected that has a wrong value. You could try charge your phone to 100%, usage it normally until 0%, until it turns off. Then charge it again to 100% and use it normally (don't discharge to 0% to many times, it just hurts the battery).

Oh yeah, considering you even streamed the movie, it's signs of a good new and healthy battery. 3 hours of SoT with internet browsing is quite the norm, and 4 hours is on the up side.
I can barely get to 2 hours of SoT with my now aging battery.

It's not about the software side of things, it's about that my battery is old now, and that's why happens to old batteries, the just deteriorate.
Thankfully the LG G3 has an easily replaceable battery, and I have a replacement waiting for me. Not getting a phone on which you can't remove the battery..
And never found those apps like Greenify to really work, at least in the last few years of Android. The OS seems to be doing just of a good a job and I see no improvement in battery life. Maybe they help in cases with poorly written apps that are draining your battery in the background, but I don't see why would you use such a software in the first place.

SOT SOT SOT - Am I going insane, or am I not(e)?

Well at least I still have my (shady) sense of humor.
Hey guys.
2 weeks with the Note 10+, 256GB/12GB - Exynos. I keep seeing those wonderful SOT reports. 8 hours, 9 hours, 10 hours! I'm not even talking about those posting screenshots of 12-14 hours...
They all use WQHD. They all use Facebook. They even use youtube and netflix, on wi-fi and on mobile with more than 50% brightness, and they all get at worst 8 hours of Screen on time.
Little me, on the other hand, uses mostly whatsapp and text, reduce his brightness when possible, check for hungry apps all the time, yet even on Airplane mode, I barely get get to 0% with 5 hours of SOT.
What am I missing? What is the magic trick? Is it possible that I'm having some sort of a hardware failure? Bad luck?
Don't get me wrong, 5 hours of sot, compared to my dying and evil LG G4 is still amazing, but I just can't wrap my head around this difference between exactly the same devices, this huge difference.
Let there be light
and sot.
in the same boat as you are my friend.. note 10 + exynos is a ****ter..

Don't worry mate, those 8,9,10 hours of SOT are for people who watch lots of Videos like YouTube etc on their device and seldom use camera or do gaming on their Phone. SOT is very subjective and differs from person to person. I get 5 to 6 hours of SOT myself and is pretty happy with it
As others said it's hard to compare, for example weak cell/wifi signal can discharge battery pretty fast even with screen off. After saying that, you should disable everything you can that you don't use. Also, forget SOT, see how much your phone discharges overnight when it's not in use. For example charge before sleep to 100%, wake up and see what's the charge after 6-8 hours of standby. If it's less than 94-92 %, then you may have rogue app than runs down your battery and finding it and fixing it may help you a lot.

No, it is not
Anything over 5 hours is not that bad imo! However, i would expect that the note 10 plus should easily be hitting 6 hours minimum for the majority of users depending on there usage! I have literally only got my hands on my device today and after about 30 minutes use plus a software update it has dropped just 6%
my .2 cents , if your phone can last long enough for you to achieve what ever you want to do achieve in day and without you running behind a charger then you got yourself a keeper .
so don't worry about SOT , standby time ... use your phone to its fullest extent and enjoy it

I can totally agree with that, but there's this little voice in my head (Well, there are plenty, but that's not our current burning issue), that's just keep telling me that it doesn't make sense that when both people use the exact same device, with almost the exact same settings, the difference will be so big...

Living in a small country, compared to some people who use the same network in the same city (Maybe 5km from each other). Obviously, it's still not a purely scientific comparison, but it's something/
I used to wonder why there was a big difference between my battery performance and the ones I see on the net. Until I went to Taiwan for a vacation. My sucky battery phone then suddenly lasted the whole day. And that was with constant gps usage, constant checking, messaging, googling, etc.
I think the network strength and consistency is the biggest determinant of battery life given the same usage patterns. I live in the Philippines where the signal is not great which is probably why i get a lousy battery life compared to others.
However, the Note 10+ is giving me the best ever battery life ever. Out of all the phones I've owned, this is the only phone to actually surpass the 5 hour screen on time mark.

Signal strength affecting battery life makes sense, I have heard that before, but I have tried going a full day with just Wi-Fi, airport mode and no sim installed, and I got just the same results, so I guess that in my case, it's not related (sadly).
During my normal daily use, at the end of day I end with SOT of 3 to 5 hrs and 65-45% battery left. So absolutely I can get 8-10 hrs and this is with highest screen resolution, 50% brightness, GPS, BT, NFC, AOD and Edge screen on. You may have rogue apps running in the background and using your battery, did you check under settings/device care/ battery what is using your power, even if it's not very accurate, could give you some hints.
I check it constantly, no rogue apps whatsoever. I even did a factory reset, installing only whatsapp and disabling some Samsung apps, yet I still can't reach more than 5 hours of SOT, in almost "lab clean" conditions. Honestly, it's driving me mad.
How much do you loose overnight, when phone is not used at all. It should be no more than 0.5 to 1% per hr. Also force stop whatsup for few hours, maybe is searching and updating too often. I know what you mean, I had a phone couple yrs ago, wouldn't last whole day even if not used, drove me crazy until found out I changed some obscure setting in wifi before and forgot about it, once I reversed that setting phone went back to normal 0.5% per hour (it was discharging 10% per hour even not used before fix).

Hmm... I believe I lost 5% last night. I'll check back tomorrow morning for a more accurate answer.

The Exynos SoC is garbage.
I learned the hard way with the Galaxy S10+. I thought to myself: "I'll buy the Exynos version so I can have an unlocked bootloader and enjoy custom ROM's and all the good stuff!" Little did I know, it's tough to enjoy the good stuff with such crap battery life.
Snapdragon users of the S10+ were reporting amazing battery life, meanwhile I couldn't get 4 hours of SoT with very careful use. I decided not to make the same error with the Note 10+ and ordered it with a Snapdragon SoC. I can happily report 7-8 hours of SoT and it was only getting better. I'm back on the OnePlus 7 Pro because I may return the Note 10+ for the Galaxy Fold, but I am leaning towards keeping it because the camera is so damned good.
Either way, never buy an Exynos phone. I enjoyed my S8+ with the Exynos chipset, but made a grave error with the S10+. Avoid at all costs if you can. If you need the radio bands that only the Exynos version has - look into getting a battery case because you'll need it.
Good luck Exynos users

Battery life

Hello
I just received my s20 plus for a week now and the battery life just like my old s7 edge after 4 years .. 3.5 to 4.5 SOT .
Is this normal ?
Same here mate, but this might improve with software updates.... At least I hope so

I hope.. i am afraid that the device has high power consumption design that with time should only get worse.
Give it 4 days to settle down. But yes it does drain faster than s10+. I knew that before pre-ordering but I thought Samsung would have figured something out...

Guys this is completely normal for the phone to drain this fast, the phone is learning all your usage patterns in order to adjust the battery, use this time to go over the settings and tweak it to your liking. Also in the s10+ forum there is a battery optimisation post, go over there and apply it to your phone. Also maybe you are using the ultra high definition and 120hz, maybe start with that to tweak it.
Another thing is if you just restore the phone from a backup, this can bring corrupted settings that might be the culprits do factory reset and install all from zero without a backup.
''maybe you are using the ultra high definition and 120hz, maybe start with that to tweak it.''
thats physically IMPOSSIBLE now
I assume that you are using the exynos versions?

I had 7 1/2 sot yesterday SD 120hz
Second day, 120Hz is lovely but damn, I'm at home connected to my WiFi and it's draining like crazy, I'm worried how is it gonna look when I go outdoors to the college and will be using LTE. I'm on Exynos
I'm getting 2 hours of SOT through my day (7 am to 10 pm)
It's been a week that I've been using the Exynos version @ 120Hz RR. Battery life is way worse than S10+ on similar settings, tweaks and usage pattern.
I have charged my phone for the 2nd time and i get +- 5 hours of sot. I use everything on the phone, 120hz etc. The battery is still in the learning pattern phase...getting same battery life as I got on my S10+. I get roughly 24 hours with one charge and 6 hours is included when I sleep...The battery will get better. With my S10+ I got 24-36 hours of battery time with +- 3-5 hours sot...depending on usage...So if I can get the same or a bit better I would be very happy

True. Battery life is horrible. I don't want to use such a phone tbh

I'm reading pretty bad about the Exynos Ultra as well in different but reliable sources. It's a pain to have a primary driver that dies mid-day on medium usage, that era of "unacceptable batterylife" on a flagship is believed to be over years back. I remember me behaving in an uncivilized? manner with the ones who tried to defend Exynos S9+ in every online forum when the culprit was the SoC itself to start with..
no wonder they didnt want to enable 120hz at 2K res - it would kill the battery in 1h probably

7.5hrs screen on time? How? First person I've heard that high.
I have the S20+ with the snapdragon processor. I think the battery life is very good, way better than my P4XL. I have 4 hours sot right now and have 60% left. I'm using 120 hz refresh rate. I believe it has gotten better over time, either from "settling" or updates, or maybe my imagination, haven't actually checked but some nights I go to bed after a day of light use and I'm shocked at the battery left. I unplug at 6am and at 10pm I've seen 80% battery left. That's minimal use like I said, not a typical day.
I think the battery life is quite alright, on par with my second phone (OnePlus 7 pro)
Exynos/12gb ram/120hz: stranded on 12%, so it would be around 7.5hours of SOT in full day.
Note: got the phone 3 days ago, it's still settling.View attachment 4977585

I have the snapdragon version and the battery on this thing is a BEAST!
Going on 34 hours off the charger and 7 hours of sot. I have done nothing to conserve battery. Loads of apps/accounts syncing. I am super impressed. Way better then my s10+ was.
120hz on, about mid-brightness, I'm lasting all day use with my personal usage habits. Battery life is as good if not a bit better than on my Note 10+. Snapdragon here on T-Mobile. Mostly WiFi. But it's only been about a week of use.
Can't complain at all.
ETA: Also BT always on using with my Frontier watch and Galaxy Buds on occasion.

Question Network Standbye

Hi all,
What is everyone's Mobile Network Standbye usage like? Mine is 24% and screen on is only 13%, seems as though network is taking a huge amount of battery life.
See my post here for my take on it:
Battery life thread
My battery life is not great. Became worse after rooting. Better than my 4XL, but not getting "all day plus" battery life. What are others experiencing? 🙏🙏🙏 For some magic by the great @Freak07...

Mine used 22% in 12 hours.
Mine is high too. But after a few days now the battery life is getting better. Reminds of the old days when people would say you had to let the Rom settle. Haha. I did do a factory reset, turned off anything and everything I don't need. Yesterday I got 6-7hr of screen on time. Right now I have almost 4 with 61% left

That is 24% of the used battery capacity though and not 24% of the total capacity.

Fully understand, but with 3/4 hours screen on time and 20% battery left that's pretty bad

I'd say par for the course on this phone, it is a shock to the system after a year with a Pixel 5. I am used to having 60% or more left at the end of the day, yesterday i had 18% left. No matter how much i wanted Qualcomms stranglehold breaking i didnt expect such a huge drop in battery life with a battery that has a significantly larger capacity and i suspect many people are experiencing the same. Clearly the Tensor/Exynos chipset is a bit crap when it comes to battery life and Google has chucked all its eggs in the AI/ML basket.
