Phone dead for no reason after years? - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This entire forum is probably dead, but I'd like to ask anyway.
I've got the same problem as other people in this forum.
It has an unlocked bootloader, LineageOS 18.1 unofficial beta and it's rooted.
When plugging the Z5P in the charger, it doesn't turn on. I've removed the backplate and unplugged the battery and plugged the charger,
the phone LED blinks red with the off time of ~3-5 seconds. Previously the screen logo flashed for a very short time but now it doesn't even do that.
Now when I plug the charger in and then connect the battery the moment when the LED is red, the vibration motor reacts 3 times and the phone stays off.
Connecting to a PC and doing any steps above, the phone does not get detected by the PC, so obviously there's no way to use any recovery tools.
Is the Z5P finally dead/chip fried? Can I do something with a dead phone or the internal parts?

If the motherboard is not totally dead then you could try the option with QPST tool to flash the stock ROM in download mode (QHUSB-9008) just search for, you should have a long curve learning to do so.
The device has to be detected this way, but it may work or not, depending on if the chip is really dead or not.

In some countries is sold as spare.

Yeahhh, phone still doesn't get detected on PC, not really turning on. It's probably junk now.

To send it to download mode (EDL) you have to open the back cover and test point two specific pins from the motherboard.

I just wanted to say that I got the EXACT same issue. I installed LineageOS 18.1 about 4-6 weeks ago and when I wanted to play around with the phone again a few days ago it wouldn't turn on or charge as Vanta-Chan mentioned.
It would be interesting to know if this simply happened because the phone is old, and to be honest the battery was already very bad at this point OR if this is because of installing LineageOS.
Because to be honest, that made me really scared of installing Lineage on other devices... I was thinking about doing it on my main phone (Samsung Galaxy S10) in the near future, but this has left me really scared.

Reading the issues y'all are experiencing reminds me of my old Xperia Z3, didn't want to turn on at all. Vibrated a few times with no display... No charging, led blinking with charger connected but PC won't detect...
The fix for my part was changing the battery, which did make it work. So most likely the same case and it's the battery, and trust me. Those knock off batteries are trash, didn't show correct battery %, and died after a few days... So had to get a new "original" one, no issues with the battery till this day

Old devices turn to act erratically, unpredictable behavior can appear.
Just one thing I can sure you, I flashed LineageOS (although is not my preferable one) in an uncountable number of devices, never had an issue like that. If you follow all the steps indicated by the developer, you wouldn't have any troubles at all being on this device or another one.

Thanks for the replies... I might change the battery then, if it doesn't cost that much to let someone do it for me.

UPDATE:
I had some time today and somehow decided to play around with my Z5 Premium.
Now... I might should open another thread if necessary, should this get too much out of hand based on the threads topic, since my issue may be more different than I thought.
Previously I couldn't get it to turn on anymore after the battery died, charging as well wouldn't work and I would get that LED blinks for a short period of time when I would try to charge it.
So for whatever reason I decided to charge my phone again and at the same time pressing the power button + volume down... I tried that previously, but today it worked!
What happened was: I got the charging screen + red LED light over and over again and once I stopped holding the buttons it would start to boot again into a similar screen I got when installing LineageOS 18.1, with the only difference being that I had the battery symbol showing up as well as only seeing half of the screen (left side) since the right side was buggy only showing vertical black and white lines (which I had happened previously installing LineageOS after booting into TWRP)
My phone is now fully charged and I was able to turn it on and everything looks fine so far, except for the colors especially red which looks really dark since installing LineageOS 18.1
Now, this seriously has me worried about installing Lineage on my main Samsung phone. Because right now I feel like this has something to do with me installing a new OS on my phone...
Kind regards
Meitei

I ain't no expert but there is a tool that you can buy and you plug it in your phone that will send you str8 to recovery mode or download mode, Idk if you are willing to pay like 10$ I think its not that mush to get it its a useful tool

Probably you are referring to the EDL cable (it costs around 4 USD), I have it, and it worked with a defective device with a volume button not working properly. I have to add that on devices with locked bootloader it can be more useful that with devices with unlocked bootloader that have many more possibilities to send it to any mode you want without the need to open the back cover.

If the ROM in this case, LOS was built specifically for your device model, and it comes from a trusted source shouldn't damage your device in any way. How custom ROMs work with all the variants should make a difference on how they look, just, apparently. Anyway, check that your battery is not draining, or it is damaged in some way.

I got the ROM from the thread right here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-beta-lineageos-18-1-for-the-xperia-z5-premium.4202705/
The battery isn't the best anymore, but I feel like it improved a little bit since installing Lineage.
The phone was charged to 100% on Saturday and currently, it's at 50%. And nothing looks damaged

[Q] Phone gives no response, but heats. Fixable?

Been coming here a while.. forums are nothing new to meh.. we'll skip the fact I just made this account and immediately made a thread ^^;
We'll get right to the details:
Had her since Autumn last year. Best phone I've ever used. No problems besides freezes I know I caused, etc.. never an issue. Til about October this year. Seen similar issues, looked for two months and found nothing close besides a Nexus 7 that physically needed its battery pulled for it to power on again. Anywho, here's how the moment went down: In the span of an hour or so, my GNex had crashed on me about three times... normally it'll do that maybe three times a day to three a week, depending how hotplugx on leankernel felt that day (having only one core on 90% of the time was pretty sweet). Was running the PA 3.99 based "Built With Love" ROM- the first build to incorporate any Saber stuff afaik- and the flat out 8.0 version of leankernel. Now.. the laast time she froze, the battery was already near dead, so when I popped it back in I plugged it up to the charger. All going as normal, right? Done this plenty from tinkering with kernels and seeing which android ROMs & versions I could hop back and forth to without wiping (had the current said setup for a month straight, surprisingly) Nope. It brings up the charging logo with the lighting bolt in the middle of the battery... and freezes there. Pulled out the cord, waited a bit and everything. Nada. Freaked out, I popped the battery. Went to put the battery back in and power it.. nothing. Okay, maybe that just killed the charge. Nope. Power cord fails to bring up any kind of light or charging animation. No screen activity. Will not boot into odin, recovery, or anything.
The ONLY signs of life still coming from this phone, are heat when it's on the charger, heat after 'USB jumping' the phone -after disconnecting the cord as well, and for at least two hours it continues producing heat- (had to do that when I first got it from Google) , and if I plug her into the laptop via USB WITHOUT a battery, it'll show as "OMAP 4440" for a split second in device manager.
Any more details will come from answering questions. As this happened over two months ago, I'm a little fuzzy on outright recalling details.
Cannot find this problem elsewhere at all. Either it's rare or I suck at looking around.
So I'm coming to you guys. Is she bricked? Stuck in charging.. idk what. Toolkits won't detect a device either, even after the USB jump when I know the battery is discharging and the phone is -technically- powered on.
If you guys could help me out for Christmas, even if it's to tell me she's busted, it would be so indescribably appreciated... <3
[Edit] Nabbed this really quick (attachment). Holding the button combo for download/odin mode has Windows searching this.
No battery inserted, as the dialog disappears and the taskbar pops with a bubble saying "device not recognized" etc. when the battery is put back in or is simply in it when plugged into the laptop.
Also to note: a third party battery yields the same results as the stock one. What kills me is Windows can see it, but aside from that and the heat production, it's essentially dead. What gives? :c
Shameful bump. Need to know if it's completely bricked, or possibly a hardware issue that's repairable or not.
Had to save up for over a year for this phone. Really need to figure out if it's gone or not. If it is, then I'll need to start saving for an N5, which I consider a downgrade ._. Can't beat the community support though, and that extra screen space :3
Aside from irrelevant blabble.. any answer would be appreciated. I can provide any additional information if need be, as well.
Have not seen this issue anywhere.
Bump..? :c
There's almost nothing on charge animation freezes. And what there is, the owner was able to boot their device with some simple workarounds.
If there's anyone who knows what's going on, even to tell me I'm a retard who bricked his phone, please do. Please.
Can't even afford glue to put my shoes back together. Saving up for another phone is impractical this year and probably next as well :\
Would I need the OMAP 4440 driver and some other stuff? If there's some way to push a boot.img to /boot while the phone is in this state, that would fix it..
I'm somewhat sure, at least. Since the kernel's in charge of that from what I understand.. any ideas?
Search for OMAP flash. I think your phone can be revived. i can't search right now but i believe there are some tutorial about OMAP flash of galaxy nexus. Good luck

[Q] HTC One X, Got wet, Won't charge, Stuck in Boot Loop

Hello xba-developers!
>Device HTC One X
>Quad Core 1.5 Ghz processor
>16 GB memory
>Everything is stock, no rooting nothing.
I've been checking this forum for quite a while but just found the need to register obviously because of a problem which I cannot find solution to.
I've checked couple of forum posts like THIS and some others and they KINDA have solution but it's really vague for me and I'll explain why; the reason is that I'm a complete newbie to all this, I've never rooted a device don't even know what that means and all these custom ROMs and everything really confuse me. Plus, my computer can't pick up my phone and generally I don't quite know if the cause of my problem is the same as other posts (Even though the problem is same) which means the solution may be different.
PROBLEM
It was raining, I was outside, some moron bumped into me in the street and phone slipped out of my hand, fell into a pool of water. I took it out as soon as I could but it was all wet. I tried to turn off the device but it kept restarting it wouldn't power down! (When I pressed power off it would do just regular restart) then suddenly it started working but the thing is, BEFORE all of this battery was in 14%, after it magically started working battery was on 80% which means it must have shortened somewhere (Problem with battery). Then all of a sudden it started doing these weird things like turning on music all of a sudden, turning on screen, shutting down, restarting and so on... (The speakers pretty much weren't working but still there was music somewhere). Then it went into a boot loop, I tried to do recovery but it kept restarting even when I was pressing POWER + Volume down buttons.
Then what I feared the most, battery died. Whenever I connect to power source (no matter Computer or Wall charger) it automatically goes into boot loop, the device won't stop working at all it won't shut down nothing. Battery is out of charge and I can't charge the phone enough to do Factory Reset. I took it to Service center but they are having "holidays" because 8th march is women's day and then it's sunday...
I really hate the fact that the battery is sealed inside the phone! It becomes real headache in this situations I could just take the battery out and tried it out but NOPE, can't do that!
Plus it's my first android and it uses this mini sim card thing (which they happily shortened in the store) and I don't really have any other Android phones to use my card on since it's too small for older devices...
So, the question:
How do I charge my phone when it goes into boot loop every time I plug it in?
My PC can't recognize it (it makes the sound when you connect Flash device through USB and then in 0.5 sec makes the one when you disconnect that same device).
I just need my phone to work properly. Or at least start up!
Thanks to everyone who read this huge post and I'm really sorry if I missed one or another forum thread that describes my problem exactly (which is unlikely but still).
Thanks again, have a good day!

Help! Blue screen, no download mode, can't factory reset.

Hello!
A few months back I rooted my Verizon LG G3 without any issue. Worked great, went smoothly.
Last night I was watching Netflix when the phone suddenly shut off without warning. I haven't recently installed anything out of the ordinary. When I tried to reboot, I got the green screen with a HW reset warning. Pressing Vol down to reboot gave me a blue screen. I'm able to reboot using Power + Vol down, but if I try any of the options [including factory reset] it suddenly goes to the blue screen.
I also tried getting into download mode without any luck - you guessed it: Blue screen. If I connect the phone to a PC, it doesn't recognize it. I've tried downloading and running the LG PC Suite, but it can't connect to the phone.
Any thoughts on what's going on and how I might be able to repair it? I've looked through various threads here and anything similar seems to revolve around flashing gone awry...and I'm not flashing anything (nor do I really have the know-how to do so).
Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.

Do you get the blue screen when attempting both recovery and download mode?
Blue screen no matter what I do - recovery, download or normal mode. As a matter of fact, now the phone won't attempt to boot at all.
Really strange.

I feel you. I started a thread about my issue but sadly no one helped...
Seems like you got a "bricked" phone though Qualcomm phones are theoretically unbrickable.
I was in a worse situation than you, I think my board fried haha, but i'll try my best to help you here
Do you have a custom recovery?
IS there anything else showing on the blue screen? (example: Factory Reset Status)
also does your led flashes?
If you can't boot, or flash through download mode (KDZ and TOT method) I think either your bootloader got messed up (for no apparent reasons apparently) or it's simply a physical defect.
Are you sure your PC doesn't detect your phone's USB after installing the appropriate drivers?
Or does it detect the a device as "QDLoader 9008"?

I appreciate your help - thank you. For what it's worth, no - there was never any text on my blue screen, and I couldn't ever get it to get into Download Mode. Plugging it in to a computer did nothing except give me a blue screen, and the computer never recognized it as a device.
I ended up getting a replacement G3, so [for now] my troubles are over. Thanks, again, for your help.
(I guess this thread can be closed now.)

Quick update: I just learned today that a co-worker who also has a G3 (T-Mobile) also got a blue screen last week. He was told that this was a "known issue" with this phone...but they wouldn't provide him with a replacement, which also seemed strange.

Glad you got it replaced!!
And a shame for your friend :/
In my case, it was practically hopeless, nothing seemed to work, eventually i had to have the motherboard replaced. It was clearly a damaged bootloader, yet, they repaired it under warranty! funny
I doubt you can damage a bootloader without root or stuff.
I wonder what would suddenly mess with the bootloader after months of no issues?
I'm having the same issue. Or rather I had the same issue but I was able to get it back to stock through all the various .tot methods and using download mode and everything. I had no issues so I rooted it again, installed the 35B firmware from xdabbeb, as well as his 46A so everything is still stock, and running the latest android update, but the phone is still rooted. In any case it has been working fine for almost a week. Today it shut itself off again and now only blue screen when I turn it on. It barely gets past the LG logo before it blue screens again. I can't enter download mode because while installing the device on the PC it blue screens and crashes in download mode.
So I'm not sure what the deal is. I have the extended insurance and warranty but if you pull the battery for a couple hours and put it back in it will boot past the LG screen and start the OS, but the boot loading screen shows "Android" instead of "Verizon" so they'll know it's a custom firmware and do nothing for me. If anyone has any ideas I'm open to them! I would love to revert back to stock but with it crashing in download mode I can't even do that.
try these things but g3 is crap phone
you can try these things: use stock charger and try to boot then, i think its a 2amp charger. if it boots then swapping out battery with good one will likely cure it. its hard to find good new oem batteries though. usually that only works if you see a blue screen with a number on it. if its just a flat blue screen and connected to stock charger wont improve anything then its likely corrupted bootloader (hard brick). i currently am trying to resurrect one that is acting the same, it will only randomly turn on to blue screen, sometimes after days left with battery in while turned off. all the tricks like taking battery out, connecting to charger or computer without battery or holding power button to drain capacitors with batt out dont seem to help really. i am trying to get it to turn on into download mode at which point i will flash stock kitkat but seems like it wont happen. seems like lollipop 5.0 has something to do with this issue. there is an outfit on ebay that fixes it for 29bucks in texas. you will find them on youtube. g3 is crap. g2 was excellent except for touch screen issues.
can you explain what outfit in you are talking about? i am facing the same problem,

Sorry "outfit on ebay" means seller on ebay. Don't remember what their name was. With the g3 it's like this: bootloop is usually fixable with a new battery. If it loads with charger connected, then definitely try new battery. If blue screen without a number, it's likely faulty motherboard. It may still boot occasionally, after leaving batt out or putting in freezer (yes freezer). If it does boot then do a backup immediately but phone is likely in need of new motherboard.

BSOD is not so BSOD as you might think. This is actually the default view of the screen controller. It just means.... well... basicly... you're ****ed....
Something in the hardware doesn't fire up as it should and it's usually the SoC.... or the so called processor. Heating and baking might help if the problem is with low temperature welding but again it might not. And even if it does... it will be totally temporary (most cases weeks) because of the rapid increase/decrease of the processor temperature and thus welding joints... I'm basically in the same situation right now with the same phone... he fought well as it is 2014 phone after all but in the end it died heroically.... ;(

Z5P bricked after 3 vibrations reset... No chance for repair service nor warranty(UB)

Hello!
Well, I had the really bad luck of a very bad hard brick... my xperia was on low battery (around 15%) the last time that I use it, then around 20min later I got it and try to check, but screen didn't turn on, and the Led was blinking White color, since I deal in the past with this issues (around 3 or 4 times), I connect the usb cable to power adapter and simply did the reset button under sim flap, and my phone made the normal 3 vibrations, so, I hope that everything was fine, however, after that, I simply try turn on it, but never happen, No led of charge, no more vibrations and no power on, no signal of operation at all... so, I test remove and reconnect the usb cable and nothing, so, I try make another sim flap reset button test, but at this time and until now, no more 3 vibrations response and nothing else... and now, after reading some many posts, and try everything suggested in other posts about I really sad and hope for some help or feedback, if somebody may help...
By now I tested on my windows 7 notebook, and at first the phone was not recognized by drivers however it shows the bad message QHUSB_BULK error usb device, in later attempts, I made after some buttons tests looking for some response I got the phone change the messague, at the moment of connect it with usb cable to my pc, it was recognized as SEMC Flash Device... In both cases windows didnt allow or recognized for a proper driver installation....
But after other attempts, I lost the SEMC Flash Device status, and by now not remember what I did to get this mode or if it may be of some help...
By now I am really worry, since I got my phone from Hong Kong, and it came and worked fine until today, but in my country there is no service for this model since it not still on sale at official dealers/ carriers, and I believe that I don't have warranty service (since is an international purchase and not on local dealer) and also because I Unlock Bootloader for getting root and Sony records that information for warranty purposes (since I unlocked BL, I installed TWRP then I installed the romAUR custom rom and I upgraded it to 1.25 version with last kernel available from the same rom thread but thas was a month ago and phone worked fine after all custom rom installation)...
By now, I would like to ask if may be possible please, some guidance and help...
1) I was made attempts by the last 6 hours after brick without luck, and I wonder and suppose that the battery may be very low, but since I don't get any charging led, I wonder if by left It connected to the original sony charger with original sony cable (almost new and working both, and also tested both with other cell), my bricked phone may still get some charge on the battery.... somebody konws if possible to charge an xperia bricked?... I wonder/hope about that, if may be a charged battery may help in got the 3 vibes reset again that I hope may fix the issue and return my phone to boot...
2) Since seems that i don't have chance to get repair service on warranty since I unlocked my phone (and in my country the cost service for such model could easily be so high as almost a new phone), and also low chance for a warranty replacement from seller, I wonder about take the chance of open it and try to remove battery connector at a last resort since , I may suppose that this may allow for clear internal electrical charged registers of system and may allow me for a reset, but I wonder if the white flap sim buttons really did the same, that is simply open the battery connections, but, I doubt about that, since in this procedure the cel made 3 vibes and the energy for the vibes need to come form a connected battery...
3) May somebody with more luck, knowledge and experience, may suggest or share some help or advice about this issue...
I am a long time cell phone fan and long time in the issues of unlocking and installing custom roms, but until today, and after I survived many other phones bricks, my highest and loved phone of all my time, is bricked in a way that I am start to desperate, since I almost no clue by now about what could I try looking for a fix....
So, thanks in advance and if some body may help, I would be very grateful....
Is there really a reset button under the sim flap? Maybe you damaged the internals when trying this..

Yes, I've used it many times it's highly unlikely to damage it from that. Unless you press it harder than a gentle touch.

Yes, there it is, well, by now I am collecting more info and try about fully discharge my phone in order to get a RED permanent charging Led light (for future reference, seems that a Pulsing RED charging led means NO detection of battery...), by no today at morning I put my phone on charger and it only warn a little, and according with some info, the best chance by now is to plug it for a long time (other models of xperia reports around wait 24+ hours for get a RED permanent light...)
By now, I already purchased a set of adhesive gaskets, in preparation to open my phone (I did in the past and have some skills for doing it, but not that I really like to do over a so new and expensive phone... ), since by now, if I fail in got a RED permanent charging light, seems that the next step is to open back cover a remove battery connector, plug in usb cable connected to wall charger and then after 3 minutes wait, reconnect battery connector with the usb cable still attached, this would reset a really brick phone, and suppose tho reset the charging process of xperias...
By now, and in case of help other people that may need it now or in future, the guide that I am following advice is this:
[GUIDE] Recover 2012 and newer XPERIAs from SOFT-brick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849170
The info in the page seems with lots of sense, and the charging process description seems very similar at I would believe could be used in my previously Z2 and my now in comma, Z5P.... But by now, I need to get a RED light in order to try to unbrick without need to open back cover glass....
Any info, advice, comments or better, experience share, would be very gratefull...
Best regards...
Did you ever solve the problem? My Z5 died and wont turn on. Flashing lights when the usb is plugged in. Tried unplugging the battery and charging for hours
you have no fastboot ( vol+ blue led ) and no flashmode ( vol- green led )?
No, only a flashing red light when plugged in. The phone dos not react to any buttons.
Sony Xperia Companion does not recognize the phone.
"lsusb" in linux shows nothing when i plug the phone in.

I know you probably have but did you try holding volume up and power to force reset it?
You say you couldn't get a proper installation of hardware, so the computer can see the device? Is it showing an exclamation point next to the device driver?

Edit: Go to device manager and right click phone and do update drivers.
Click browse for update yourself and direct it to WINDOWS/INF folder and check "include subfolders".
Then click where it says "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Then click Android phone from the list and click MTP USB driver and click OK for install.
Your phone should be installed correctly.
Then try fastboot etc.

z5 premium sudden death

About a week ago, with my battery at 39% i plugged my z5 premium in to charge and it never came back on again.
I have tried all the usual tricks, pwr and vol up, removing the battery, the sim slot button, and pretty much any combination of buttons and still nothing.
It will charge just fine, but will only reach the white sony xperia screen and no further. it will flash up the white screen then go black with the notification light flahing red 3 times and then staying red. once or twice it has started to load the 'powered by android' screen and then just blackness. If i hold vol down and plug into laptop the notification light will turn blue and it shows up as 'adb android device'. Thats the extent of the life left in it.
So what would people suggest as my next step? is it still possible to recover the data thats on the phone or is it a total loss?
I had exactly the same problem over a month ago. I am pretty sure it happened because of liquid damage to my motherboard.
I managed to bring it back to life by flashing with flashtool and ticking ALL wipes and resets available.
It worked fine until it died for good weeks later (I had left it to charge overnight and there were no signs of life the next morning). After a quick visual hardware inspection (aka teardown) I concluded that the only solution was to replace the motherboard. I did just that, and every other component works fine.
TL;DR: Give it a go, flash with all wipes and resets offered by flashtool (you'll lose all data) and hope for the best. You better be looking at prospective phones in case your mobo goes kaput.
EDIT: wow I'm only 4 months too late haha. Pretty sure he has a new phone already xD

If your computer cant detect the phone, it could be one of the following:
- Bad usb cable
- Bad usb charging port on the phone
- Dead battery
- Dead motherboard
If your computer doesn't make any sound when plugging the phone in, then missing drivers shouldn't be the problem and you should troubleshoot each of the possibilities I mentioned.

2-minute reset.
I thought mine was bricked after only 2 months. I came across this fix on the Sony website and it fixed mine where it could work again. I had to factory reset it. It was just locking up and freezing. Be sure to hold that button in for 2 solid minutes. I watched the clock. Longest 2 minutes of my life.

I am just adding a list of similar threads that have been recently posted regarding this strange sudden death issue, battery not charging, weird non-software bootloop.
Sudden Death
InfiniteBootLoop
Unable to Turn On
My Phone Just died (april2019)
Not charging (user is rooted though)
I think i will also collate many of the similar threads into titles and post it as a new thread. As this forum is extremely bloated and repetitive whilst simultaneously being confusing for some users.
I guess Z5P is old now, but trust me the XZ3 is complete garbage so support for Z5P should be much cleaner and better organised now.
Any news for this?
