[SOLVED] I put my phone in airplane mode and my IMEI/Baseband came back, cheking the service menu I went to *#2263# and saw that "LTE Preference" was enabled. I clicked on Automatic and problem fixed. Probably a ROM bug? Who knows.
Hello there. I've been a reader of the XDA forums for some time but I never had any reason to create an account to post on the forums.
A few weeks ago I got a SGH-M919 as a gift, the phone only had a few months of use and I took it with me, everything worked fine except for the fact that I couldn't get 3G/4G (Not even EDGE), I was only able to connect to the GPRS network and I couldn't change the carrier (It always gave errors like "Unable to connect. Try later" and such). Although the phone is (apparently) quadband (I don't live in the US), it just didn't work but I lived with it.
Yesterday my phone was low on battery and I turned it off, a few hours later I turned it back on and it couldn't connect to the network, I went to the network options and once I pressed the screen to enter the Mobile Network options, I got an alert saying that I must have a SIM to access those option. At first I thought that the SIM got damaged somehow (This isn't the case since it works perfectly fine in another phone) but after a few minutes looking around, I checked the IMEI and instead of the usual number, I got a null/null message. My first reaction was to google what exactly happened and the answer I received was that the Baseband (Which is also Unknown) and IMEI are stored in a folder called EFS and that it got corrupted. Sweet. I looked for solutions but the main two I got (EFS Pro and ADB nvrestore) require a backup of the EFS (Which I don't have).
The other solution I got was to restore to the stock ROM (M919UVUFNH7) which I'm currently downloading from SamMobile (Sorry if this is considered spam). The phone is not rooted and has the stock ROM, it came with a CWM folder inside the internal memory with an .img file but it doesn't have CWM intalled. I've never upgraded it (Not sure if it came with that firmware from the store if it matters).
I live pretty much in what can be considered a "3rd world country". So I cannot send it to Samsung nor I have access to dollars.
Another question is, the phone was gifted to me already unlocked, I don't know if it came unlocked from the original carrier or if it was unlocked via a code or whatever. If I restore to the stock will it lock my phone to T-Mobile again? Would I be able to use it without a SIM card if it gets locked? It's impossible for me to get a T-Mobile SIM on my hands should I ever need one. In the worst case scenario that my phone gets locked, can I get it unlocked by flashing a custom ROM?
I have so many newbie questions that are already answered in other threads, but since it's a lot of information I want to get it as specific as possible to avoid breaking my phone.
If someone can help me with this issue, I'd really appreciate it.
i having same issue in M919
Do you guys get a message in notification bar about sim car removed or something about a sim card? Also, it doesn't matter if the sim card works in another phone. This device has a little issue with being picky with sim cards. If it's a cut sim card, get an original micro sim card

Hi, thanks for answering. I don't get a message about a removed SIM card. I'm also using an original micro SIM.
I already downloaded the Stock ROM but I haven't flashed it yet.

This is a known bug of the s4. It is a hardware problem and I have yet to find a solution. If you google it you will find many threads on different forums addressing this issue. Again, no known solution
Any answer/idea about my issue? . Sometimes I can access Mobile Network Options, sometimes I can't. I can't configure the APNs (They delete themselves after I click on save). Phone Serial Number didn't get deleted (Which is stored inside the EFS folder as far as I know). I also can't select a Network Mode. I click on GSM/WCDMA/LTE but it changes automatically to nothing.

That's what I said? One solution is to change sim cards if using a cut sim card to use an original micro sim. It's worked for a friend if someone I know and also for others on XDA. It's not the solution, but works for some

I would get a new sim anyway if I could. Flashing stock firmware wouldn't hurt as well

Before trying to flash it, is there any risk of getting simlocked again? I wouldn't want to get my IMEI fixed just to realize that my phone is locked to TMB again
UPDATE 1: My IMEI and Baseband randomly got back (My IMEISV was still missing) but after I restarted, they got deleted again.
UPDATE 2: Rooted, went to EFS, didn't find nv_data.
Hi all. I have G3 bought from my carrier it is on stock lolipop recieved over the OTA. Only thing I was messing with it is TWRP and root.. As I thought it is sim locked I put another carrier sim in it. It boots without asking me for sim unlock code but can not connect to network and not allow me to enter network settings to o it manually ( it is greyed out ). The other sim works fine in another unlocked android phone.
Someone have an idea what is going on??
I have no idea. Sorry man

I had my share of rooting and installing custom recoveries and ROM-s for a long time, so my current thought is, is it possible that it is just software locked somehow?
I never saw this before..
Solved the problem, it was built in the Rom provided by my carrier "Vip.rs" grab my hand on new Sim card of different carrier on Fulmics 3.1 and it is carrier free. Just to tell you, if more people in Serbia have the same problem.
Hello.
one part of the problem is mentioned in the title. here I will elaborate. my guess is that the SIM slot has it's contacts dirty or bent.
now, please bear with me,this is my first post on XDA. I tried pretty much everything, and I've turned to this wonderful community .
anyways,my IMEI is still intact, and the only big problem about this phone is the SIM. I'll gladly wait for your help. My SIM card is intact, and I've changed ROMS. Currently running Eclipse V9.
.
Does this happen with the stock rom? Is the phone running the latest bootloader and modem?

Yes,it happens with pretty much any ROM . And I've forgot to mention, sometimes I'll make the SIM work ,only by twisting and putting it back on.
My modem is up-to-date

Phone detects other sim cards?
Your sim card works in other phones? If yes, then you might want to try changing the sim reader.

No, the phone doesn't detect any SIM card.
My SIM Card works in any other phone.
Sounds like a defective sim reader that needs replacement.
I used to have a problem close to that. While using the phone I suddenly got a " no sim card" message and needed to restart. I placed some tape on the back of my sim card so that the tape will press the sim card towards the contacts and it helped me. You might try it.
Someone sent me a htc m8 from uk(not locked on a specific network) to fix it because it was broken, i did and i also unlocked bootloader and installed custom rom(leedroid). Everything is working fine, except the phone si not reading any sd or sim cards.
Before changing the sim and sd card part from the phone with a new one, is it possible to fix it without replacing it? Can the problem be because of unlocked bootloader or some firmware incompatibility ?

What exactly was "broken" and how did you fix it?

Unlocked bootloader, no that isn't the cause.
Firmware? Maybe. It seems strange that both the SIM and the SD are broken. Those slots are separate, and on opposite sides of the phone. So it would seem that a hardware problem would also seem unlikely, unless they happened to have been broken separately, and coincidentally. SIM not working due to a firmware or radio issue, is a pretty common issue. But I haven't seen SD issue related to firmware/software, that I can recall.
Hi everybody, I have troubles with slot 2 SIM on a brand new A2 lite.
No mater what I do (swapped SIMs, use only slot 2, with or without SD card) SIM in slot 2 doesn't register on network. Both SIMS work fine in slot 1
Under slot 2 network settings "automatically select network" in ON, turning it OFF causes "Error while searching for networks" message appear
Please help
I use automatic translator to excuse my English. I write from Italy. I have your same problem with global rom. xiaomi italia told me to be a problem of build v9.6.4.0 (check if it matches) and all that remains is a downgrade or wait for update.
SIM 2 not working after upgrade to 9.6.4.0 ?

Hi,
me too!
SIM 2 recognized (asks PIN) but not registering on networks .
I bought phone on a retail store (in Italy) a few days ago, so I was able to get it fast replaced with a new one, now working on both SIMs
Today I've discovered that this is probably due to a bug in V9.6.4.0.ODLMIFF upgrade
Former phone was upgraded to V9.6.4.0 via OTA.
The second one has yet stock retail ROM V9.6.2.0.ODLMIFF, and until this nasty bug will be fixed I beware to upgrade system, maintaining out-of-the-box version.
BTW: to date, I wasn't able to find a a 9.6.2.0 image to archive for safety , and eventually recovering.
Does anyone has a link to download it ?
Best regards
So, no way to get a V9.6.2.0 somewhere?
thanks
Still no fix?
I am in Portugal and both I've tested both slots with a sim card and both register my network (meo) in both 9.6.4.0 and now 9.6.6.0 maybe its the Italy network only?

Yes, only in Italy ...
I have the same problem.
I've made the update to 9.6.8.0 (september) without any changes, send an email at the italian support (i'm italian) and they answer me that there isn't solution, for the moment.
I'm so angry for this problem and think that xiaomi not intend to solve it.
I made some other test without the Sim on the Slot 2: the phone has problems to connect on 4G (Tim) where generally connect, if i use 3G it doesn't connect on internet and the sub menĂ¹ APN desappears.
I've also another problem, I can't connect to a mac or pc with usb cable.

Hello.
To everybody suffered the SIM 2 not registered / not working (slot) on MI A2 Lite (specially in Italy) it seems that new "November 2018" system update solved it. So, please try to download/apply for update. Sometimes, after update, a "remove/re-insert SIM" is needed.
Good luck.
FINALLY !!!
Problem on sim 2 is solved with November patch !!!
You have to completely switch off the phone and then switch it on again after installing the patch.
bye
My phone miA2 Lite is unable to register sim 1 on the network. ..what could be the problem
