When I play a video on kodi streaming or local file, the play/pause button remote control button works as it should. However, when I run any voice command, such as "Alexa what time is it?" afterwards the play/pause button doesn't work. All other buttons work fine. If I exit kodi and run it again, it works again. There is always the option to use the select key to get the OSD (On Screen Display) for the Video Player during playback, but its not as convenient. Anyone else experience this issue and is there a way to solve it?
Running Kodi 19.1
Thank you.
I also have this problem.
Latest amazon fire cube, up to date. Kodi 19.1.
The voice command for play/pause does nothing.
Also pressing the play/pause button on the remote does nothing.
To get it to pause or play whilst a video is playing, I have to press select to bring up the on screen display/controls and manually select the pause button on screen.
As mentioned above, voice and the pause button on the remote seem to work at first, but after a while it stops.
Anyone come up with a fix for this?
When I first got my Fire Cube I was able to say, "Alexa, pause" and, "Alexa, play" while in Kodi and it would pause and play as expected.
Now all of the sudden, nothing. I now have to use the remote to get to the player controls bar and select the pause button as the regular play/pause button does not work.
I thought my Kodi was corrupt for whatever reason so did a rebuild from scratch (uninstalled Kodi and factory reset the Cube) and for about a day I had Alexa voice commands in Kodi again but it stopped working again. I suspect some Amazon update to the Cube is breaking this.

So the thing is, apparently the Fire phone doesn't support other functions of the middle button on headphones such as skip, next or previous songs when you double/triple click but only pause and resume song for single clicks. I have tried using the headphone came in with the phone on an Iphone and it works well. On the other hand when I tried using my apple earpods on the Fire phone, it doesn't work either.
I've emailed Amazon and they confirmed that the Fire phone doesn't support those functions. Thus I'm wondering is there any way around that?
Thank you,
There are apps in the play store but I haven't tried them.
ive been using shuttle+ since monday and double tap to skip definitely works.
You can also use Google Play Music and double click to skip works, but no triple click for previous.
Anyone wanting good quality sports streams, try wss. It is very reliable and good quality compared to most addons on kodi and mobdro.
It may occasionally freeze but rarely buffers. There is a premium subscription version but I have not tried it.
The main this to watch is to get the genuine apk file, there are a lot of fakes that force other crap on you. Go to doctor-dance for the apk.
It requires MX Player to run and also needs a mouse.
I use Wukong which has the advantage of having MX player in its limited sideloader.
The mouse is only required to get started, I've move cursor into view and click (I'd tap) and then normal remote is fine to navigate and select.
Do not use the return button on control, navigate to back buttons.
Exception, when channel first selected an ad often comes first, return button will take you back usually to blank screen, then hit select and it plays.
Tip- if loading circle appears for more than a couple of seconds it is probably down, nav back and select back up server.
Like most things servers are down occasionally but that's life.
I have a FTV2, rooted. I installed VLC Media Player using the regular Amazon app store (not side loaded). Whenever I hit the play/pause button on the remote, it launches VLC. Anyone else had this happen? If this is a bug in this VLC version then maybe I can side load another version on top of the regularly installed one. It doesn't matter what app I am in, when I hit play/pause it brings up VLC.
I think this is a general bug. I have Google Play Music installed and on certain screens (not in movies or games) I cam press the Play/Pause button and my Justin Bieber album automatically plays It really bytes that Amazon isn't as open to its users as OUYA Inc. was. At least with OUYA I had EASY access to their engineers and could report bugs

Did you find any resolution for this VLC issue on your Firetv? Even I'm facing the same issue - when I hit play button, VLC starts playing irrespective of any App I'm using at that time.

No I didn't fix mine unfortunately. I just uninstalled it and use Kodi.
I bought the fire TV when I can pre-order it, and I rooted it and block the firmware update. Recently youtube is not working, so I decide to update to latest OS as root is not that important to me. So I reset to to factory default then update to 5.0.5 (must be from 51.x). After installing new OS, there is no sound at all, not even from menu navigation. I tried each settings in audio and still no solution, reset, restart, change the HDMI cable etc.
What even worse is that I cannot stream video and audio at all. I have wired LAN to a router directly with 150Mb Comcast. Now I cannot even load the fireTV introduction video. I can install the youtube without any issue and it can load the play list, subscription list etc. I tried to stream Amazon video and MP3 and it stuck at the beginning and would never start.
I side loaded the latest kodi, it plays mkv from NAS but still no sound. The FireTV and TV have not been changed except OS update. Please help.
Do you have a little red muted audio sign in the top corner (right hand side) of youre screen? If thats the case using a keyboard press the + button to get the audio back on! If not search on Google i also had a problem simular to this a while back after a new install of Kodi & found the solution from there after looking through for around 5 minutes.
Hope this helps if so press that thanks button
It is not just kodi, but fire TV itself does not have sound.

I looked on the net for you, try these -
Go to Settings > Display and Sounds > Audio > Dolby Digital Output > Select Dolby Digital Plus OFF (I used Dolby Digital Plus Automatic and that worked)
Or this -
If you hear regular TV sound that means that whatever that sound comes from is still running. Maybe you have a cable box or DVR connected to an amplifier? You need to turn it off when you are using the Fire.
You should hear the sound from the Fire TV directly from your TV, not your amplifier. You'll need to make sure the TV's sound is turned up.
Or -
Check the volume setting. Most TVs have separate volume controls for each input, so it may be you just have that input turned all the way down. Also check your TV's owner's manual and see if the input you are using supports sound. On my TV one HDMI input processes sound and one is video only for some reason.
Or this -
Do you have another HDMI cable you can try? & have you tried on another tv?
Hope this solves ur problem (I keep my fingers crossed for ya), if it does press that thanks button

I had the same problem and called amazon, and they told me it was a known issue and are looking into a fix.
I'm on a new Fire TV running 5.2.4.0
I've noticed that about half the time if I'm watching something in one program (channel... whatever) and hit the home button, I can still hear the video playing even though I'm on the home screen. It's as if the program is still running in the background somehow.
I'm coming from a roku so am new to fire tv. I'm wondering if there's a more appropriate way on the fire tv to quit a program??
Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.
I always just hit the back button to back out of the app...
Pressing home is not supposed to quite the app. This is the expected behavior on all Android devices, not just the Fire TV, so that you can jump in and out of multiple apps without losing your place. If you want to quit an app, you need to either use the app's built in quit/exit option (if it has one) or go into the Fire TV's settings menu and force quit an app from list of installed apps.
Audio from an app continuing to play while you're on the Fire TV home screen is also the intended behavior. This is so you can start music, like in the Amazon Music app, Spotify, or Pandora, and do something else on the Fire TV while the music is still playing. If audio is playing while you're on the home screen, you should be able to press play/pause/fast forward/rewind to control the audio, even though the app is not in the foreground.
