Which custom ROM to use as daily driver? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hi Everyone,
Got myself a Pixel 2 XL and it seems that stock firmware drains battery quickly. So I am trying to flash a custom ROM to use as my daily driver. My criteria are: good battery life, stable and up to date (with regards to security updates.)
What is your opinion on these ?
Havoc OS
Arrow
Proton
ABC
TIA.

On my rooted Pixel 2 XL, Lineage 18.1 with Magisk is working very well and is frequently updated too.

I've only tried Proton. It works well, but you should try them all out yourself to discover which is best for you. Our opinions don't mean much because everyone is looking for different things out of a ROM.

Best official Rom for Lenovo P2

I have been using the Lenovo P2 for quite some time now. We have all received nougat on our P2 and we know that Lenovo follows a rather annoying one update policy for it's devices. Hence I believe the future of this device is faded, at least from Lenovo's point of view and would like to know which is the best official ROM for Lenovo P2 right now?
Define "official"... I think the only official ROMs are Lenovo's...

Best depends on your perspective of your usage & requirements.
Though I'd say
Offical LOS 14.1
which is getting weekly OTAs & monthly security patches. pretty stable as stock.
AOSIP 8.1 by Shubham
almost stable may be better in feature than LOS, I've used it for quite a while but its SE Linux is Permissive which causes some apps non functional.
Beside these two i also used LOS15.1 , RR & other Oreo ROMs they are currently under development but can be used as daily drivers because all major bugs like volte, nfc ect. has been solved in almost all Oreo ROMs for P2. But again SE Linux is not Enforcing in these ROMs so you'd need to root to make some apps run.
It'd say you'd try yourself which suits your requirements best use it as your daily driver.

Hey! Have you tried out the pixel experience ROM. It looks promising. Not sure about the updates and stuff as there are not a lot of people talking about it on p2. Hence the stability and reliability of that pixel experience ROM is unsure. Here is the link- https://download.pixelexperience.org/

Pixel experience is not updated for a while and it is not going to be updated, I think. You can go with AEX or Cardinal rom as these two have developer support now. Cardinal rom is official too, so OTA updates will be available. If it is nougat, only Lineage rom have weekly updates. :good:

What ROM do you guys reccomend?

I just got my bootloader unlocked yesterday, I am currently running pixel experience, Its really slow, buggy and laggy, what ROMs do you reccomend?
LineageOS
I dont know why you guys call Pixel Experience ROM slow.
I dont have any issues what so ever.
Also the performance and battery life is great

Can u help me in unlocking?
My phone is not detecting in mi unlock tool
Based on Pie: Pixel experience Extended
Based on MIUI: Masik or Revolution OS
Based on Oreo 8.1: AOSIP
Just use pixel experience. With the latest update, its good man!
On MIUI side, I can say EU rom
AOSiP Oreo is pretty good.
Using Bootlegger 3.0, it's stable too
RevolutionOS (AOSP or MIUI)
If you like customization:
For pie: PE Extended (Most Stable out of all pie based roms imo), MSM Xtended
8.1: Resurrection Remix, AOSP Extended I liked the most for customization and stability
MIUI based: Masik X
Roms without lots of customization bt stable:
9.0: Pixel Experience
8.1: LineageOS 15.1, Pixel experience
What is the most stable nd customizable MIUI based rom?? (Revolution OS/Masik/miui EU/miui HP/miui PRO)
i like MIUI 10 eu, they dont change system UI like other MIUI based roms,, its faster and smoother than stock MIUI and it has unlocked features from other regions, i tried revolution os and one other and they both mess with system UI elements which doesnt look so good at all, but if you want many customization options, than you can try revolution os, from others i tried, AOSP 8.1 based is best AOSiP, Pie based roms are not ready for daily usage for me, google didnt even finished developement on android 9 and has some bugs, but if you would like then Pixel Experience is way to go

Pixel Experience also seems the best Android PIE (9) based rom at the moment.
LineageOS16 is dead, or going nowhere lack of devs.
Someone shown me a site to customize MIUI rom and remove all unwanted things like ads, etc... If you want MIUI that's seems good.
Anyway, I prefer AOSP based so PixelExperience.
Note: it's also not moving very fast, even if it's probably the most advance rom at the moment.
For Pie: MC-AOSP the best Pie Rom ever
For Miui: Revolution OS

What's the best stable availabile pie ROMs

As the title sasy what is the currently best stable pie ROMs available for Xiaomi Mi A2 lite
For me it's the Resurrecion Remix treble rom, because it's very stable and has a lot of features. The notch is also fully supported and there aren't many bugs.
In the past the Pixel-Experience rom was my favourite, but since the RR rom is out, it's my favourite Pie rom.

1. There's one bug, the lowest brightness is not so dark as it is on stock rom. But you will have this bug on every treble rom.
And if you use pie instead of oreo vendor, you will have more bugs (fingerprint will not work etc). So it's better if you use oreo as base.
Furthermore you can't use the stock Xiaomi camera, but you can use one of the google-camera-ports, which are very good and make good photos.
2. I followed this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/resurrection-remix-pie-gsi-t3892195
3. In my opinion it's a very good and stable rom, also for heavy usage

what is the best GSIs rom

what is the best GSIs rom for mi max 3
thanks
For me,pixel experience is very fast and smooth.
Pick one: AOSiP, Descendant, PixelExperience or AOSP.
There's more but those are some reliable go-tos.
In my opinion, AOSiP and DotOS are the best. Very stable and with some customizations.
Doto OS, Ressurection Remix and Havoc OS
Dot OS has stopped GSI dev 6 months ago, since then theyve added way more features and gotten even better
Havoc also stopped GSi 6 months ago. i donated to them and begged em to try gsi or our phone . No luck
Ressurection remix is still putting out GSIs as of February, though their february build wouldnt boot on 2 of my phones
I have a 6gb/128gb blue mimax3. None of the gsis have booted successfully n my phone

I'm using DotOS on 10/03, Nfound version and it's great. The pixel experience only runs the versions until December and havoc has even stopped developing GSI. As for the issue of booting the device, it depends on which vendor GSI needs: pie or oreo. Look here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-3/how-to/guide-how-to-boot-pie-gsis-fix-issues-t3895860 and here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-3/how-to/guide-beginners-guide-to-gsi-aosp-rom-t3910085 to see an idea.

Thanks alot Germano,
i was in despair before you answered.
2 questions please--
Where did you find the DotOS Nfound version?
Could you please post a link?
Most important, When youre installing a GSI, first you install a Xiaomi.eu Rom,
Do you reboot and set up the Xiaomi.eu rom first, and then you factory reset.?
Or do you just install in recovery and factory reset immediately in recovery?

1- The ROM you can find here: https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=291210;
2 - I installed Xiaomi.eu 9.3.14 and then DotOS following this guide here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-3/how-to/guide-beginners-guide-to-gsi-aosp-rom-t3910085 - do exactly as described and everything will work out;
3- When Xiaomi.eu starts, it asks to log into the Mi account. I login only and then restart TWRP to install GSI.
I hope it helps you.
Thanks, Germano bro,
Im on AOSIP (02-17 version, cos latest version hasnt booted), and im going to try POSP tomorrow.
Dotos was fun and the best one that successfully booted, but im trying to get a GSI that has fonts. Im still delighted to have The DotOS as an option. I didnt have any idea it existed.
Cheers!!:good:

You're welcome. DotOS and AOSiP are very similar in terms of functionality and stability. But I can only boot DotOS using xiaomi.eu 9.3.14 as a base. The roms that have "vanilla" in the name boot normally using the rom 9.3.14 (except those that need the oreo vendor).

[Q] Stable ROM for my parents?

Hello,
I bought a new phone so it's time to retire the ZUK Z2. I'll probably give it to my parents since their phones suck, however I'm running a custom ROM that is not very stable, but has a lot of features (that's why I use it).
That said I don't expect them to need all these fancy features, so I'd like to ask you, what ROM is as bug-free as possible? It doesn't matter if it's Android 7 or 9, secure or unsecure, features or without. Preferably not ZUI since they would be coming from Android One and the UI will be unfamiliar.
Thanks!

For Oreo- I found Bootleggers Oreo 3.0 to be the most stable rom(i have used this as a daily driver for a long time) along with Aex Oreo and Even Arrow OS Oreo Final Build is Solid with Prototype Kernel and since they are coming from Android One , Lineage OS Oreo is probably the way to go .
For Nougat - CR Droid is pretty good for battery life along with Viper OS Final for top notch performance , but i think both of these wont matter much in your case .
For Pie - Maybe Arrow OS and Lineage 16.
PS; All other roms are in no means bad or anything , its just that these ones match your requirements in my opinion .
Peace.
Flash stock zui 4
Pixel experience. Oreo build. Not many features and its stable
flash stock zui its the best but since it is heavily modified version of android I will suggest you oxygen os oreo, it is almost pure android with good battery life, or you may try Derp rom based on android pie.
