I would like to get the yellow pages app on my Xiaomi.eu 12.5.4. I guess it's not on the rom. Its a pretty handy app when you recieve alot of calls from unknown numbers. I tried installing the app version 202105140 but it doesn't seem to work. I had debloated my device and I might have uninstalled some other app required for yellow pages to run. Has anyone tried getting yellow pages to run on eu12.5.4?
Google it.
Useless app, only works for China.
When you receive or make a phone call to shops or services it tells you the name of the service, doesn't it? Or this is a Google dialer functionality?
Nah, it's China specific.
In fact, Xiaomi.EU leaves a lot of China specific bloat on their rom including tracker apps.

Google dialer has same feature, but to use the xiaomi one you need to be using mi dialer, then caller id inside it

Long story short, Google's blocked in China and my dad will be commuting back and forth to and fro from there, so he just wants to be able to use OOS but without GApps, like in China. Searched but couldn't really see any OOS-based ROMs that supported going GApps-less. Help?
I think I am missing the problem? If Google is blocked in China that just means he needs to sideboard his apps while he is there or wait till he is home to install. Why would you not install them? It's not like the phone won't work if Google services get blocked. Just use different search engines and/or browser and you should be fine.

He's travelling back and forth a lot. And sideload apps do work, but **** like backup and the stuff that happen in the background won't work. Plus he just doesn't want the bloat or battery drain of GApps

If you're rooted you can uninstall them and if not just disable them from apps settings.

Doesn't help with the background stuff. I've tried disabling it on his Note 3, and it resulted in a loop of "com.process.google.gapps has crashed" and I want to avoid that. And I might as well just go without if I'm going to disable it.
How about flashing the Chinese ROM (Hydrogen OS)? Surely that one won't contain any of the Google services/apps. I'm based in China and have gone google-less for quite some time (even in Europe actually, those services are a huge drain and alternatives are available). There's 2 ways to get apps on the phone without using Google's Play store, 1) install Xiaomi/Huawei/... app store or 2) use Raccoon (search on XDA) to download apps from GPS on your PC and then side-load them on the phone. An even better solution is to install Raccoon on a server, have a script download the latest versions once a week, have a script erase the older versions and share the apk's through Nextcloud/OwnCloud/... with your phone (grats you've got your own app store )
I've been getting a small pop-up add, usually from Microsoft, after every call I make. Anyone else getting them or know how to stop them?
Do you have any Microsoft related apps installed on your phone?
think about what apps youve installed in the past
go through them one by one and figure it out

You're right, it was a Microsoft app, Outlook. It's strange though, I had it installed on my Oneplus One and I never got the adds. Maybe it was the latest update or something.
Edit: The ads came back after uninstalling Outlook.

Its not apps. Its a website you visited that's spamming you. Clear your history and cookies all that good stuff and it should get rid of the problem.
I had the same issue and this is what I was told
That's how I solved this issue on my LG V20 running Nougat:
Go to:
Settings / General / Google Services / Ads / Opt out of Ads Personalization
My 2 cents
So I couldn't install the Marshmallow version of the dialer, no matter which build I tried, they just won't install. Short of waiting for a Nougat ROM for this phone, is there any similar dialer that I can use for the time being, that has some of the features (CallerID, places near me, spam warnings and call blocking, visual voicemail, etc.)? Is TrueCaller worth the price?
Don't know about Google Phone but Truecaller is definitely worth it. The free version is pretty enough for most cases but if you need to send contact requests or fed up with ads, you can go for the pro version. Hope it helps.

I tried the free version, and for some reason I couldn't keep it from using the system dialer to make calls. Tried disabling the system dialer, then I couldn't make calls at all.

Unfortunately, it didn't work. But hey, my phone is more like a Pixel now. Except for the Dialer. Just doesn't show up.
Have you checked out the other LG forums? I'd look on the v10 and v20 forums and see if they've found a method.
And as far as truecaller goes, I would avoid it. Either spammers have access to their number database, or they actively sell it, because you will see an increase in spam calls.

A few years ago I heard about a way for the YouTube app to function without the Google Play Services. Is this still possible? I want to go completely without GApps, etc.
So far my plan(s) for application replacements are as follows:
1. Google Maps -> HERE WeGo
2. Google Drive -> Dropbox
3. Google PlayStore -> Use raw APKs downloaded from the internet + Aptoide + F-Droid
4. Google Calendar -> Etar or DigiCal
5. Google Photos -> QuickPic
6. SMS -> Signal
Anything I'm missing?
With that being said- Is there really any need for me to download/flash any GApps, whatsoever?
What are the benefits on going without gapps?

Better buy an iPhone then no ?
I mean even if you completely remove all Google apps, you pay a small percentage of the phone price to Google, then you're using AOSP but still coded by Google. Then by watching YouTube you're completely in the Google system too, and watching ads gives them money too.
So you want to do this the hard way ? Buy an iPhone, use Bing, stop watching YouTube.
There's no point just breaking android by removing Google services and play store...

I just edited my message to give you some advices on some apps, but there's also a debate over buying an Android and in the same time do not want to support Google...
Do whatever you feel
Some apps are really broken when you don't have Play Services. Except crashes and missing features.
Also if you watch YouTube in browser (I suppose you won't use chrome then) you'll be limited to 480p.

I'm aware that some apps will not function correctly. I can work around that. I'm not concerned about that.
As far as the YouTube app hack is concerned, it is not a part of a browser. It is a hacked version of the YouTube app. Completely different, and is fully functional.
I have several years of experience developing/modding android, and I'm sure I will do just fine without GApps.
I am simply here asking about the old YouTube app hack method, and seeing if I am forgetting any baser level GApp.
Thanks so much for your... help...
I use iYTBP for my YouTube app as it features a black design, no ads and background listening. Not sure if it will work without Play Services but you can still try it.
Your welcome for my ...help...
Less condescension can work too.
You can use microG to spoof the Google services (at least in YouTube's case) and use iYTBP (google it, read the xda post and download from their website). Otherwise you could try NewPipe.
You don't need another SMS app, the phone comes with one from OnePlus by default.
It also has a gallery application from OnePlus, so you should avoid QuickPic (as it is pretty much adware).
You could also try to look for a HydrogenOS image on the chinese OnePlus website, but I'm not sure if any have been posted. That way you won't even need to get rid of the Google apps, as there are none.

Oh wow is QuickPic really that bad? I've never tried it, but reading all about it, it seemed nice.
That's a shame.
Thanks for the notice about NewPipe by the way, I totally forgot about that!

FreedomOS does not give you the ability to remove all Google apps.
I flashed H2OS and microg as soon as I got the phone.

Holy cow. I don't know of a more helpful or relevant post reference. Thank you so much for this!
The built in apps are pretty bad. Gallery is very limited. Messages is crippled. Dialer has a bug in it and Contacts is a bit wonky.
I put the Google apps back ON and disabled the built in apps.
You can also replace Chrome with Brave

So to get rid of the whole square bubbles problem I have installed a previous messenger apk that has bubbles.
But even though I have automatic updates on play store turned off, after a couple of hours I check and the messenger in already updated through play store to the latest version. Anyone knows what could be wrong?
Is there any other option I have to turn off so that the app doesnt auto update? Thanks in advance.
Anyone?
YOU TURNED OFF THE UPDATES FROM THE APP'S PLAYSTORE PAGE AS WELL, RIGHT ?

nothing I can think of now but have you tried getting system updates or moving to Xiaomi EU custom rom? cuz fixing that problem by just sticking to an old app ver isn't really the ultimate solution
Well, you could still uninstall updates "I have never had a MIUI, so not sure about" that

Flashing a custom rom to solve that is an option I have no time to bother to do so. It could create more trouble for me than just an app auto updating without me wanting to.
Android 12 introduced a native API for chat bubbles, and now all apps can make use of this API - SMS apps, internet messaging apps, and Messenger chose to switch from their own bubbles implementation to Android 12's native one as well.
A user on reddit made a modified Messenger apk, which makes Messenger believe it is installed on an earlier Android version, without native chat bubbles. This makes Messenger use its own bubbles implementation. This obviously cannot be updated through the Play Store, so it won't suddenly revert to the official APK.
