No. Widevine L1 is stored in persist.img so as long as you don't mess with your partitions much then you won't have a problem i.e unlocking bootloader and flashing custom ROMs and kernels is perfectly fine

So say I factory reset and install customs roms shouldn't make it L3, correct?
When will you mess with partition?

The only person I know who's gone to L3 is a Dev who did a lot of messing with different partitions

Thank you

It works post root on Arrow Os. Attached a screenshot.

You can have Widevine L1 on custom Roms.

You can lost Widevine L1 on official MIUI Roms even without unlocking or root.

* Cetain devices have been losing their Widevine L1 certificate randomly. The reason is unknown to us, so don't bother asking.
* Certificate renewal is done via Settings -> Passwords & security -> Fingerprint unlock -> Fingerprint payments -> Widevine (L1)

That sounds good. I will try it next week. Which model do you have EU, Global or Indian?
Just wanted to ask the same question... Thanks @Marcelm2000 and @FlipmodeBG !!!
Can someone confirm this with an EU device?

Mine 9 Pro - newest EU Soft, magisk stable, and L1 level here
Just unlocked my bootloader yesterday and after unlocking gave me Widevine L3. After rooting with magisk stable and magiskhide it gave me L1
Anyone have L1 on Global? I'm rooted with Magisk canary, passing safetynet, but still at L3.

What command did you use to unlock the bootloader?
Did you use Magiskhide?

I used fastboot oem unlock, if I recall correctly. And I have MagiskHide enable in Magisk.
I had done the same the first time with that command and mine also was L3.
What I did and fixed it (for me) was relocking the bootloader and unlock it with "fastboot flashing unlock", then installed magisk stable and used MagiskHide, then it was L1. Hope this fix it for you.

Does this require wiping data like usual when re-locking and then unlocking bootloader again?

Disregard my last message. I asked because Netflix said L3, but I downloaded the DRM Info app and it shows L1. I cleared cache and data for Netflix and then logged back in and now it shows L1 there too.
Here's the thread that helped me figure that out:

Other than looking at your streaming rate, is there a way to tell which level of widevine you have?

I don't even know how to view my streaming rate. Everyone uses the DRM Info app on the play store. It will tell you.

Okay, I redid everything, using fastboot flashing unlock this time, and I'm getting L1.
interesting, I am on global 11.2.2.2 (rooted/magisk stable/lsposed) running magisk hide and getting L1 widevide. I used 'fastboot oem unlock' but I do not use netflix so it doesn't matter too much for me, but good to know.

unlocking bootloader and widevine

Hi , I would like to unlock the bootloader ->root(magisk)-> install viper4android and blocking ad module.I have updated to 12.0.1.0(RJSEUXM) (android 11) completely stock.
What about the widevine L1 ? If i unlock the bootloader i lose the L1 forever or only when unlocked or only when phone is rooted.
Is there any module for the device to be in L1 state and rooted?
Has anyone tested it?

Edit - retested and it's L1
Because I had vanced installed it shows as L3
For some reason Mi 10T lite maintains L1 widevine with unlocked bootloader. I always use Magisk hide, so it might contribute to the fact that L1 still works. I've just checked it on my 12.0.1.0 RJSEUXM with DRM info app and Netflix, both reporting L1.
@_mysiak_ so its safe to root. Might have you installed viper4android with this version? is working properly?

Yes, I am using Viper on a daily basis. With recent Magisk versions it might need a fix - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mod-viper4android-miui-12-magisk-21-1.4203489/

Question Disadvantage of Unlocking bootloader

What are the disadvantage of unlocking bootloader? Is there any reason to keep it locked? Do you lose anything by unlocking?

Read step 7 and step 20.
Honestly the biggest drawback is that generally no L1 support after unlock, but in this phone that doesn't happen, so I would say No drawback at all
Ok thanks. I was thinking of trying miui but I didn't wanna wait 7 days once I decide miui isn't for me. I will unlock as soon as I get the phone

No, you must wait 7 days to unlock after you submit the request to unlock bootloader. So you still need to bear with MIUI for at least 7 days.
There's no shortcut (yet).
Most banking apps will not work with unlocked bootloader. This apps consider unlocked bootloader as a root of the system, so a lack of security.

The warranty will be voided if bootloader unlocked

Yes that is true but it's still possible to pass safety nets but as long safety nets are passing u should still be able to use banking apps even if running on custom ROM

This is not always true.
Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco in many countries still have warranty after bootloader unlocked.
Check the local Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco policy yourself.

Firstly is SafetyNet check. This is the first thing for banking apps.
Some ROMs did not pass SafetyNet out of the box and they have to use Magisk and modules to make them pass. This kind of ROMs mostly will have issues with bank apps.
To sum up:
Bootloader unlock: you can use bank apps, but sometimes not.
Root: you can use bank apps with some adjustments, but sometimes not.
ROMs: you can use bank apps, but sometimes not without the help of Root.
Try and error, life is just like this.

That is not totally correct either.
There are many cases that people had installed custom ROM and bricked their phone, but Xiaomi still give free warranty within the warranty deadline.
If you installed custom ROM and need Xiaomi warranty, simply return to MIUI and you still get Xiaomi warranty within deadline, if the policy said so.

Warranty good but even if it does get voided I will still unlock bootloader anyway because of custom ROM and stuff but it's cool that warranty does not get voided after unlocking bootloader

As I said, some bank apps can work. If ur bank app does not work, then the only way to use it is to root the ROM using Magisk (and some other specific magisk modules have to be installed if installing magisk only does not do the trick).

Well this app was working but I had accidently uninstalled magisk and it detected unlocked boot loader and banned me for 2 days , it really costs a lot lol and my exams are coming so to be on a safe side and to prep using my phone (which I was avoiding ) I have locked the boot loader now . Using msm tool to go to a11 gives drm L1 , I have a question should I factory reset after going from a11->a13 and also will it keep L1 after reset ?

If using stock roms all the way to A13, which is the best way to go, you should be ok. You should be at L1 then.
Wildvine level is a complete crap shoot when you unlock the bootloader. Other threads are out there where many of us followed the exact same steps and some had L3 and some L1. I have yet to retain L1 once I unlocked the BL and rooted. Usually relocking it will put you back on L1. Some have reported having to relock it and reset the device. YMMV.
Had L1 after msm a11 , but it has now changed to L3 on C.66 . Any solution guys ?

Question L1 question

Is it possbile to have L1 when we unlock the bootloader and root it using magisk delta by HuskyDG?
I have seen some people with OP 9/9 Pro saying that they kept L1 after unlocking and rooting but how to do it with OP 11?
I've tried unlocking but as soon as i do i lose L1 had to relock to get L1 back. Now some people also mentioned that if you do it twice like first time unlock bootloder, root etc. then unrooting and relocking bootloader to try again unlokcing and rooting to get L1. I haven't tried unlocking it again cause it just takes so much time installing all the apps back again.
Op11 with unlocked bl have l3 is not like op9p with unlocked bl and l1

But it should be same as Op 9 Pro minus the upgraded cpu and camera chips structure is still the same. Heck both devices have A13+ support so how come?
