I was giving a Iconia Tab A100 that has unusable touch response, other then that it is working. I need some way to root this or just get external devices (keyboard) to control it.
All info I found about rooting requires ADB which is not turned on.
I actually upgraded it to stock ICS by putting a update zip on a memory card and used the button combination to start the update. I also factory reset (for some reason) so it is stuck at bootup at the Android setup.
I know this won't work on this device but things I was thinking of that I have done on other broken devices (Samsung Galaxy S II) is root it from download mode then boot into the custom recovery it supplied which had adb turned by default then I had the ability to do other changes.
Would getting to that point be possible with any custom update.zip files on a memory card?
I would like to end up rooted with my Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse synced to the tablet.
I have never used this tablet when it was working to know its capabilities or any needed info on it. The touch works on about a 1% success rate. I can get it to sometimes highlight a button when pressed but it doesn't actually click it when I let off.
The best workinng part is if I open the volume box with the buttons I can then control the slider with 90% accuracy.
Update.zip is signature checked when flashed, so no, not possible. Need cwm or twrp installed to flash something else. With no touch, cwm is best.
You could attempt to flash a boot and system IMG with fast boot, that'll get you root but not with anything paired on BT.

Would you have a idea where I could find suitable files to flash. I had searched for stuff like that but couldn't find them before so I must of searched with the wrong terms.
Once I have root I should be able to figure out pairing since I once read a tutorial for doing it from adb if memory serves it was for the Nexus Q)
Or I have also been able to send keypresses from a ADB shell with the right commands I could look that info up again
I am sure something would work.

Well ROMs arent usually sent out as fast boot images, you'll need someone to compile a ROM for you and send the images instead.

I thought I was doing great after uninstalling bloatware. However, when I tried to connect my Note 2 to my PC via USB I received the error that MTP USB Device driver could not be loaded. Apparently I must have uninstalled something on my Note 2 that is not allowing me to connect to the PC via USB. I have been searching for days, read many postings with the same problem, downloading various Driver apps to no avail. I even downloaded and installed Samsung Drivers which also did not work. I still can use my USB plug from NOTE 2 to my Flash Drive to get stuff transfered to/from Note2/PC.
It never ends. Fix one thing and then another pops up. LOL
What else can I say except - H-E-L-P.
What de-bloater tool did you use ?
Does it show the apps it uninstalled ?
By default any de-bloater should only delete apps from /system/app and
/data/app.
Have you considered starting over by flashing root injected stock Rom?

I did not use any de-bloater. I used Titanium Backup Pro (TBP) and have a complete list of all apks uninstalled.
In TBP under Backup/Restore all apks uninstalled are listed. Plus, I kept a list of all that I deleted.
No, I have not considered starting over by flashing root injected stock ROM. Thought about it, however, if I
do flash, I'm back to square one.
If I don't resolve this one problem, I will remain at this point until new OS comes out. I do have a work around for time being.
I do appreciate your help, time and concern. Thank you.
What really amazes me is that this problem is all over the Internet and I can't find a simple solution. I have Googled it,
been on here doing searches, reading postings, etc. I have even tried Driver Booster.

Tried this and again no success.
Method 3 – Ensure you have the right settings By default my phone was already set to the right settings for USB file transfers so I’ll assume most of these ship with the same configuration, hence why I have this as method 3. I found this on a forum and while it did not work for me, it seems a few other folks declared it a success.
1. Launch the phone key pad on your note and press *#7284# (don’t forget to start with that * symbol!) When you press the last pound sign (#) this will bring up an option that will allow you to change your USB connection settings (modem or PDA) – change it to PDA.
I did not get any option that allowed me to change the USB Connection settings when I entered *#7284#. So I dialed that number and got an error Unable to process request.
Tried new USB cable and it still tried to load/install device drivers but not successful. Same error MTP USB Device Failed.
Thanks again for trying to help. I do appreciate your help and time. Still looking for a resolution.

I am trying to find out if you have all the files and compare with my files to find out why I can access phone utility and you can't. Your issue may be the driver or files idk. Tbh, I am not an expert. Just another android enthusiast trying to help. I have Tweaked Rom so mine may be different. I have found 2 system files in TBU, Service Mode and MTP Application. Do you have them also? Does service mode work for you when you dial, for example, *#0011#?

I have hit dead end after dead end, after many hours, just want to get copy of text messages off this phone somehow, and then erase all data. I have spent many hours on this, my level of experience with all this is beginner/intermediate, as I'm sure you will be able to tell by the ramble below. Skip to the last paragraph **** with the asterisks to get to the important part of my inquiry. if you don't want to read about what I have tried already.
Before you suggest the obvious, replace lcd, let me say that the motherboard lcd connector is damaged beyond repair. water damage, but the phone boots normally and seems to run fine. phone calls ring and other sounds indicate the phone is able to function but no display or touch function obviously. the usb port works. Also there is no samsung account on the phone so that option to bypass screen lock does not help. Kies, smart switch, etc don't help due to the "screen lock"
ie... There is a basic swipe to unlock "lock" on the phone, so otg cable options also hit a dead end. There are workarounds to bypass other lockscreens, but no way to do the swipe over otg that I can find. And even if/once I am able to swipe to unlock over otg, there are other obstacles to get around that may not be possible (click ok, navigate to enable usb debugging). If I am wrong here and there is an obvious solution I am missing, let me know (explain in detail if you can) and I will get the hub & cable back out and try again!
Dr.phone android recovery (data recovery/damaged device option) looks like the most promising, and here I have also run into trouble. Dr phone will put the phone into download mode but then always seems to fail "flash recovery package failed" at some percentage. dr.phone downloads the recovery package (I am selecting the correct model n910v) successfully, but the percentage before flash recovery package fails changes. It hasn't made it past 85%. the dr.phone log files don't reveal anything to my untrained eye.
Before running dr.phone, adb "permission denied"...after using dr phone, however, while the phone is still powered on and in download mode, once I close dr phone, I am able to start to get somewhere with adb! adb devices shows the phone as an emulated device, and (some) adb commands start to work! I think if I just am able to find the exact location of the stock messaging log, I will be very close.
If anyone can suggest some commands to try in adb to grab just the sms log I would be very grateful!
I can run "adb backup", and have tried a few other adb commands, but none of the standard backup commands actually contain a sms log.
***Anyway, I think the best option might be to flash a custom recovery after getting the phone in download mode & adb working successfully (showing as an emulated device) with dr.phone as described above... However I have no way to tell what firmware version the phone is running (don't want to brick it or loose data), and I am really looking for specific directions on which clockworkmod or twrp recovery file to try for n910v, that will allow me to get a sms backup, and/or a recovery that will have usb debugging enabled.
Thanks for the input! sorry for the rambling post, I hope it's possible to make sense of it.. ANY help greatly appreciated!

This tool might work for you. Ive never used it myself but it looks promising. It supposed to be able to control your phone on your pc.
For the custom recovery, it should tell you what model you have when you boot into download mode but the TWRP for the note 4 has been unified so it should work either way. This link is for the most recent version. Get the .tar file if you're looking to use ODIN to install it.
Thanks for the reply! The tool you inked to requires USB debugging switched on. I was looking at it previously but didn't consider it because of this. I have USB debugging off, and the process I described with the dr phone windows application /download mode, doesn't turn usb debugging on.
Is there a way that I can flash a recovery for the note 4 that has USB debugging enabled from the start? If anyone knows please describe the process or post the link.
I think I need step by step instructions or screen shots for what to do with the Note 4 twrp recovery. I am trying to acquire a second phone so I can view the screen and know what buttons to press, but so far it is not looking like I have enough information to do sms backup from the twrp menus..on the device when I can't see the screen.
I see reference to being able to use adb commands to control the twrp recovery / backup process, but so far I haven't found anything that will help for my particular situation. If anyone knows what adb commands to use to pull the note 4 sms files , or a backup that includes them, PLEASE let me know.
thanks again
The display stopped responding to touch out of the blue. I want to access my data urgently. I'll just explain the situation point by point.
1. This happened about 3 months back. There were posts on the forum saying that it might be because the software has damaged the hardware on the screen in some way (i wouldn't know, i'm a novice when it comes to this)
2. USB debugging is turned off. So i can't access ADB
3. OTG is on timeout. It has to be turned back on again to use a mouse over OTG
4. Bluespark TWRP 3.2.something is installed but since the device is encrypted it asks for the password, which i can't insert.
5. Fastboot works
What can i do to get my stuff back? is there any solution to this besides replacing the screen? Because i can't afford to do that right now.
use a mouse and connect it via otg extension. unlock it with pattern it and enable usb debugging

I don't think there's a way to recover your data without OTG/ADB available, fastboot alone doesn't offer a solution either, only way I could think of is to fastboot flash another ROM (well you can't really flash whole ROMs but only boot.img,system.img, etc.) without the OTG restrictions or maybe even have ADB enabled by default (I think I saw such thing before on custom ROMs), this would however lead you to a total trail 'n error kind of situation were you potentially could lose all data too (in best case you could access /sdcard but definitely would lose everything not on the internal storage).
All this is very experimental and probably sheer luck if you ever succeed, so it's probably best to wait until you can replace the screen as there's no real good solution to the problem with the given possibilities...

If you reboot the phone does the OTG timeout reset?
Essentially, you need to get past the security gate to decrypt your data because even if you could get it off without decrypting it, it would be useless to you.
You're absolutely going to need to be able to enter your PIN somehow to proceed.
Pro Tip: always leave adb debugging enabled.

Hello!
I need help regarding a Redmi Note 8 that no longer accepts the correct pattern and is locked.
I'm looking for a solution that would allow me to either unlock my phone without data loss, or make a backup of the phone's internal storage on an sd card/pc before hard resetting.
The device is not rooted and I don't have custom recovery installed. USB Debugging is on, but my laptop is not authorized.
With Adb, the device is detected but unauthorized. It seems to be detected normally in fastboot mode. I was able to get my laptop to detect it in recovery mode by clicking on "Connect with MIAssistant" while it was plugged in, but only in sideload mode. I also somehow managed to get into safe mode, but I used the stock screen lock, so unless there's something else that can be done in that mode, it doesn't seem useful in this situation.
I tried the actual MIAssistant software but it tells me to update my device before connecting. From what I found, this is because it doesn't even work with phones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or above, so that seems to be a dead-end, unfortunately. Downloaded from here, updated to version 3.2.1.3111. If there's a newer version that could support my device, even an untranslated one, I would love to know, but I couldn't find a working one.
I had some ideas that could potentially solve my problem, but couldn't find a way to actually execute them, so here they are in case someone out there who knows more than me could help me with one of them.
1, Is there any way I could authorize my laptop for USB Debugging without being able to accept the prompt on screen?
2, Is there a way to make a backup of the internal storage of my phone in fastboot/sideload mode?
3, Is there a way to get adb to detect this device normally in recovery mode, instead of in sideload mode?
4, Is there a way to get my device into mtp/ptp mode instead of charging mode when connected to a PC without USB Debugging so I can copy my files?
5, Here's a thread I found that seems promising, although it's old. Could I somehow use this, or a similar method on Redmi Note 8? The Recovery Mode is much more limiting on this device, unfortunately, so I can't exactly follow this tutorial. Are there alternatives that can be done in adb fastboot/sideload mode, perhaps?
6, If I am forced to hard reset, is there any software out there that could recover at least some of the deleted data afterwards, or is everything lost in case of a reset?
I am open to new ideas not listed above, as well. I am not a very advanced user so I probably missed some things.
Thank you so much for any answer in advance!

Even if you can copy your files to PC, they are problably unusable because of encryption.
That is why you need that pattern
For security this is exactly what you want, if your phone is lost or stolen.

Do you mean that the reason it doesn't accept the correct pattern anymore is for security? I would have thought it would still accept the correct one, at least after several tries of the same thing. Being completely locked out even when you know the correct password is a little strange to me.
