Thanks

all by sudden, my F3 has it proximity sensor working on call today. It's not a joke. Does anybody experience the same? Something change?
My prox.sensor sucks more than anything else that ever sucked before.* Got very angry, and i am skeptic about solving sensor issue in upcoming updates (if there will come some)
* ©Butthead, not Beavis
After I updated to the latest stock rom, it worked and it is working all the time.

There are NO proximity sensor hardware in the phone, it is only emulating proximity feature using light sensor and etc.
If you test proximity sensor with hardware tester app, it only works when phone is vertical lol and even then it's janky.
The good news is that this can be improved through software.
I guess you are all talking about stock ROM, right?

Hi guys,
I've got really strange problem with my proximity sensor.
It seems that my proximity sensor has stopped working or to be more specific it does not work in places where is not enough light such as in rooms etc..
Currently using CM7.2 stable but when I unroot my device and flash original ROM the problem is still there.
It causes problems when I make calls, the screen goes black+lock and after I finish my call the screen does not get back so I can not end my phone call.
What do you think? It it software problem which can be fixed somehow or reason for claim warranty?
See please link below

I have updated OxygenOS to 4.0.1 and now I have problem with proximity sensor during call (on 4.0 I haven't noticed that).
Firstly, there was a problem with changing volume during call. There is also problem that screen doesn't turn off when I keep it right next to my face and I'm during call. Also there is a problem that screen turned off while in call and when I took it away from my face, it turned on after few seconds.
Anyone on 4.0.1 having the same problem? I thought OP fixed this problem on that version but I'm having it. Maybe I should do something to fix that (dirty flashed from 4.0, maybe I should clean something or try wiping system and flashing 4.0.1 on top of that?
I'm having the same problem on 3.2.8, and had it ever before. Maybe you just didn't notice it till now?
Proximity sensor is bugged on this thing from MM times. Sometimes it works and other time, it doesn't

It would be more widely reported if that were true, never had an issue with proximity sensor on 3.2.8 or 4.0

I didn't have that on 3.2.8 also and on 4.0 this also didn't happen but on 4.0.1 I have that problem on every call.

I'm on 4.0.1 don't have a single issue so not sure what you want me to tell you. Best solution is backup and reset device

Like I said mate, sometimes it worked but it never bugged me to the point of frustration so ignored it.
I am facing the proximity sensor issue too. when on call the screen is switched on and many keys are pressed. sometimes by accident even the airplane mode is switched on.
this is constantly a problem with OP3 even in 4.1.3. very poor software support. I think now that are focused only on op5.
No it's not a proximity sensor problem, it's a OnePlus dialer app bug.
There are several bug reports in OnePlus forums about this issue and in one of them they say it will be patched in next version of OOS (I assume stable not tried with new open beta which installs new dialer) so if you don't want to wait, for me the solution that works it's to install Google dialer app from this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/guide-how-to-install-google-dialer-phone-t3443006
I recommend to follow all steps in the first post to install it without problems and you won't have this issue anymore.
Hope it helps you.
Un saludo
Has anyone any idea when this will be fixed by oneplus? It is driving me mad, nearly every call gets interrupted by my ear pressing a button turning on the light etc.
I want to keep my phone stock so cannot use the google dialler tip posted above. Thanks
Hi,
My girlfriend's Nexus proximity senor seems to be broken and her screen is black all the time when she's calling someone.
Is there an easy way (root or not, I don't care) to easily disable the sensor all the time or in Caller app ?
She's on latest stock Oreo 8.1.
Thank you
Experiencing this as well. From what I have read, it is an issue with 8.1 specifically and the 5X.
Google haven't really acknowledged the problem yet, which sucks.

For calls, pressing the power button twice seems to bring the screen back for use again - doing this too quickly starts the camera, if you have that enabled.
This probably won't help for other use cases, like whatsapp.
I can understand that it's a bug for WhatsApp (she has that bug too), but for the dialer too ?
I don't experience such issues. My prox sensor is working like it should. Though I have a friend who has some minor problems with it, but he has a glass screen protector on top of it. Mine has a cutout for the sensors

My old original Nexus 5 had this problem and I got around it with an Xposed Module called Disable Proximity Sensor. That module has since evolved to something called Sensor Disabler (Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-disable-proximity-t2798887). It doesn't say that it has been tested on the Nexus 5x, but it might still work. I am not sure how compatible it is with the new Oreo version of Xposed. Installing Xposed might be a bit overkill, but if it fixes the problem, it might be worth it.
I know how frustrating and annoying a busted proximity sensor can be, so I hope you can find a solution.
hi guys,
Posting here as real me xt does not have a specific thread and might have same as real me x.
I Just want to know how proximity sensor work on realme xt / x or where it is located.
i found my proximity sensor value is not changing when i am closing camera / top of mobile top.
I'm not sure that is expected or my device (realme xt) has an issue.
Could someone test with sensor tools or any app and confirm please. if that is by design could someone say how that works.
Note : screen off while i place mobile on ear on call.
Thanks in advance.
I believe there is a big bug in reamle XT software related to proximity sensor - many times its happening that I am not able to pick up incoming calls as screen goes off as soon as I bring my finger close to screen to pick the call - this is happening because of proximity sensor issue. This is critical defect that realme need to fix at the earliest! To me this seems like a software bug but not a hardware issue.
Realme xt has a very weird proximity sensor..it just and only works with the ear . This might be make many problems..I don't know exactly how they did it or how it works...may be it is a different technology or may be it is just a bad sensor with a very poor resolution or may be software issue..any ways it works..my be it hangs up sometimes..but it works..

There is a big bug - I am facing it on a regular basis. If you have realme xt hanged on a mobile holder in a moving car with google maps or some other app running and suddenly a call come in then after answering the call its extremely difficult to turn on the speaker as screen goes off as soon as you bring finger close to screen. This is definitely a software bug that need immediate attention from realme developers!
Realme xt is bull**** mobile. Plz dont buy it
Proximity sensor is not responding properly even though they are not bother to fix this rather saying its working fine..
Its my biggest mistake to believe in realme. I would suggest go blindly for redmi, its really awesome.
I got the problem
Its the exact same issue with OnePlus 6t and 7
It's actually using your hand motion to use the sensor the split second you put it on your ear , I don't know why but I tested it and it only works that way and I tried to move my hand without getting close to my ear (or any surface) it didn't work so there is a sensor but maybe its poor due to the notch so they decided to make it work for only a split second
I have seen some reviews about the issue of proximity sensor and turning on the screen during calls ,
Did Xiaomi solve it ?
or
I want to ask if this issue is severe .
sorry for my bad english
thanks in advance
I didn't have any issue with proximity sensor, others say they did... Sincerely i think that they're just holding phone against their head wrong while talking...
Issue exist. Wife and son have problems with screen turning on and off. I watch them while talking. Without any movement of cell phone or head, screen turns on. So, calinorg, you are wrong.

Hi, you can try to calibrate the sensor by tapping several times on kernel version in Settings and see if it works.
Good luck,

I think I've heard somewhere that there is a slight problem with the proximity sensor but that was due to it being ultrasonic rather than infrared. I'm not sure but may be that might be the reason.
hi all,
I have a Mi 10T, Indian version(MIUI Global 12.0.5.0 Stable). I have faced this issue from time to time too.
I did something that helped, I cleaned the LED indicator light hole and ear piece opening, using a bubble gum(please watch a few youtube videos on how to do that and do not get any residue of gum stuck in). Then as said above calibrated the sensor from kernel version settings.
Before the clean up, 6/10 calls I faced this nagging issue. Post clean up, its like 1/10 calls , and mostly that one call is usually whatsapp voice call this happens with and not the google phone app.
hope this helps you guys too.
EDIT : P.S. Are people with stock MIUI dailer/phone and messaging app facing this issue too? Kindly mention your phone's ROM version, I am planning to Install Indonesia version of stock MIUI Rom for my device, to get back Stock MIUI Dialer/Phone and messaging app.
Also, I kind of have a feeling that Google phone and messaging app are not optimised for MIUI ROM and/or this device.

It has nothing to do with Google phone app, sensor is ultrasonic and it is a bit iffy from time to time...

Him I have the very same issue.
Let's admit, Xiaomi note 8 pro is ****.
I've proximity issues and headphone connector issues.
The phone price is great, the quality is not there. Simply it's a big nightmare .
What a big disappoinment.
The issue exists for sure. What a piece of garbage is this phone. :-(
at home the problem appears when I switch the screen to 120hz and disappears at 60hz, it is the 120hz mode that causes concern the infrared sensor does not follow
