So, I finally setup RR v8.6.8 and everything seems to be working alright -- got Magisk (still on v22.1) passing SafetyNet and all.
My question here is aimed at getting any recommendations fellow forum users may have for setting up V4A, something which can be tricky sometimes -- e.g., on my PX3, there's at least one module one has to flash beforehand to get everything working smoothly...
As I didn't find any dedicated thread, I'm assuming everything works fine just by flashing the ViPER4Android FX Magisk module and it will disable the ROM's AudioFX; am I mistaken?

do a FULL recovery backup (boot/dtbo/system/vendor/data)
try, and if anything goes wrong = restore
i personally use the rootless driver (install in recovery)
and after reboot i install the apk

The V4A app that installs the Magisk module does not disable AudioFX. I would recommend giving the default way a shot for starters (install the app, give root rights, let it install the module, reboot) and see if it works. If it doesn't, the first step you should try is to enable legacy mode from the settings. If that doesn't work as well, you can try a few troubleshooting steps from here. Good luck!

Hello everyone
I have been really confused about this and i want to confirm if Viper4Android is working on our phone or not... And if its working can someone write a short guide on how to install Viper4Android and its drivers...
Working great.. no special things for installation... just install app, open app and install driver, reboot

Not working here. always asks to install the driver after reboot.
To get it working all I did was root my phone, installed viper4android.
After opening the app it asked to install the drivers I let it, then rebooted
everything worked just fine.
Viper4Android needs your phone to be on Permissive Kernel.
Working!!! Ty everyone will post a link and how-to install guide in my thread

Anyone know how to get convolver to work with CM 12.1 nightly on z00A?
Hi, can somebody confirm that Viper4android works without issues on the original rom?, i mean by this that after a reboot the app starts itself, as in my case I have to start the app to get its functionality working on my player
Thanks
is viper4android safe? It asks for a lot of permmisons
yeah viper4android is safe i have been running it since my galaxy s3 and never looked backed best app i have ever come across as far as boosting audio quality.
also guys having problems with not hearing any differance i had the same problem at first then i found a thread in general with a modified audio_policy.config file i had to replace with the original one then v4a worked a charm also kernel has to be permissive too so try it again with the modified audio_policy if you gave up because i nearly did
Not really working for me. I did the se permissive then installed v4a then installed driver and reboot. Now I'm using it mainly for Spotify and it works sometimes but then sometimes it will stop working unless I unplug the headphones and plug back in or sometimes it just stop working at all
Download the viper 4 android guitardedhero bought in my Zenfone max working.
Ok so, I have known magisk for its root hide feature.....as systemless root method and, you know, first things you read about it
Now I'm realizing it's bigger than that......with modules!
wow, xposed wasn't f%&ing up our devices enough, now we need magisk modules too
joke, anyway....I once tried to flash it and resulted in bootloop (like 5/6 months ago) so it was closed story for me
BUT again....I see everyone asking for it, modules and stuff....
I know that unless you use special carrier features is not mandatory
So now....these are my questions to you, magisk power users:
1) Is it better/less invasive on the system than lastest superSU beta?
2) is it better for performance? or stability?
3) are there really useful modules? do many modules break things, decrease performance/stability as xposed does? (yes. I hate xposed)
thank you for your attention
Since no one else has given input yet, although I'm not very experienced with Magisk, I'm using it right now for the first time.
The most popular reason for using Magisk as far as I've noticed is so that you can successfully and easily hide that you're rooted so that you can use Android Pay, Pokemon Go and some other apps that check for that.
The only reason I'm using Magisk right now is because I'm running Viper10 ROM with it's all SuperSU option and although I believe my phone kept root after the Play Store SuperSU update to 2.80 and updating binaries/rebooting, the update to 2.81 broke SuperSU for me so badly that even flashing 2.8x or 2.79 SR3 SuperSU zips didn't restore root/SuperSU even after a dirty flash of the ROM.
I could've restored a TWRP backup but instead did a dirty flash of the ROM but with the full Magisk option and now root is restored.
Overall I like SuperSU better because I don't need any apps that won't run while detecting root, and I like SuperSU's ability to require a pin when granting superuser access.
By the way I really liked Xposed but I don't need it as much any more because of Nougat's custom tiles feature and the excellent ROMs available.
I'm really glad you asked this because I can' tseem to find a proper tutorial on how to install magisk and keep things such as my Banking app and other Finger print recognition software working correctly.
Have you found a tutorial which shows you how to do this?

Instructions are in the Magisk thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
If you already have twrp then it's as easy as just flashing the zip file. For your banking app etc, after you've flashed Magisk from the above thread, you just need to open the Magisk Manager app, go to settings and enable Magisk Hide. Then go into the Magisk Hide menu and chose the apps want to hide root from.
Magisk is an amazing creation.
Although I am in no way a power user of Magisk, as I don't use it myself, at the moment. This doesn't mean I don't recognize the importance and brilliance of the Application and what it can do.
For awhile, it was mandatory to use Magisk ROMs for VoLTE/Wi-Fi Calling on Nougat firmware, but that was squashed (updater-script issues if I recall correctly. A great team effort though for those that fixed it).
Anyway, I guess my .2 cents is this. If you need a system-less set-up, for whatever reason. Be it Pokemon, or banking applications, etc...
Then Magisk is highly suggested, and really the only route. The modules that are being created are amazing.. However, they don't do anything that can't be done to the system itself. Unlike Xposed, which could do a lot of things (I also hate Xposed..) with its modules, this is different.
Such as this recent Magisk Module that was shared, I just went ahead and enabled it manually in my ROM.
Since I have no use for system-less I run my device the same way I always have. TWRP recovery and flashing custom ROMs. The latest SuperSU has fixed all root issues for myself on Sense based ROMs, and I like to use the stock LOS SuperUser on AOSP/LOS based ROMs.
I use multirom and it is an amazing creation, should check it out. Worth a peek.
Best of luck with whatever direction you decide to go.
This update seems like a big deal.
If you've installed this update, please relay your experience with it. Thanks!
Well, I reckon I'll be the guinea pig.
Downloaded, installed and rebooted.
Went from 14.0 to 15.0
Checked Safety Net.
Not sure what else to check, opposed to just daily driving it.
All seems to be well.

Kinda apprehensive to try, as I'm on travel away from home.
I could not install either Dolby Atmos, while on 14.0.
Let me see if I can find a small module...
ETA, I tried both Dolby Atmos and the Viper for Magisk 14+.
All failed.
If you want to successfully flash modules using magisk 15+ , you have to do a onetime install of the following f2fs workaround module (flash via TWRP)

How do we upgrade from the @juniorpassos Magisk 13.3 listed in this thread? Is there anything special that needs to be done if just booting TWRP temporarily and flashing a Magisk ZIP from the XDA thread? When I open Magisk on my phone, I see is a "Cannot check for updates, no internet?" message even though I'm definitely on WiFi.
Also, anyone that wants to save me time writing a post asking how to pass SafetyNet check wins my internet love.
Update: I just went ahead and did it. Looks like it's working fine and I was prompted to install something that now makes my phone pass SafetyNet.
Sorry for the noob question.
Running a Pixel 2XL - Pie April '19 Security Build, Magisk v19.0. When trying to install Viper4Android FX v4.1, I have tried seemingly every combination of options, but cannot get the 2.5.0.5 driver to install.
Both the material and regular app install and as a system or user app. Just the driver never gets installed?
Please advise if I've missed something obvious - thanks in advance!

Google always tries to disable the root
@pepins: It's not that Google always tries to disable root, Play Protect always tries to disable the Material Design version of the V4A app.
@Switch Blade: When you tried updating it hung for a while on the prompt to update, then it threw up a message to reboot? After rebooting, did it prompt to install the driver again? I encountered that and it's probably a bug in the install script for the module. You need to head to the Magisk thread for the module and bring this up. That said, installing through TWRP, as recommended in the first reply to your post, is the way to go here.

Tried flashing from TWRP - same issue, upon openning Viper4android app, tells me the driver isn't installed - then fails on IO.
Weird
Check Magisk see if viper is in SU. If not Go-to viper app info clear data and turn storage off. Sometimes this make Magisk ask for SU for viper. Makes it work sometimes.
I had to use this method for a while to get it to work. Also I have musicfx disabled in apps. Had to do that on my Nexus 6 and just kept on doing it. Uninstall Viper reboot.
Install Viperfx don't reboot
Install audio modification reboot.
It can be done in TWRP also. If you reflash either of those a second time it uninstalls them if you didn't know.
I'm not a developer I pretty much just mess with these things until they work for me.

Of the three devices I installed V4A on the P2XL was the only one to have an issue. Normally it's not an issue, so what changed this time I don't know. Anyway, the other two devices, a Moto X Pure and a Galaxy S4, installed the driver through Magisk without difficulty. As mentioned, flashing V4A in TWRP on the P2XL resolved things.

Try SeLinux Permissive apk
This happens every now and then for me; especially if I'm updating V4A after being on an older version for a long time...
I've forgotten where I've seen/read it, but many times you can't simply update it and/or install the driver from the app. What I end up doing (forced to do) is to uninstall the app (from within Magisk), reboot, and re-download/re-install it (searching for module from within Magisk app) and it should (usually) install the driver again...I usually install it by selecting the 2.5.0.5 and "material" version and as a "system app"...
I dunno why...but this seems to do the trick, but I have to do it frequently now and then...
I use Magisk module that works for speakers, but not with headset. It happens only to me?

Anyone get this working yet?
I installed V4A 2.7.2.1 on my P6P and it works fine. I had to use the apk instead of the magisk module version since the module doesn't work for me.
1. Install the V4A apk
2. Open it, grant root and let it install the driver
3. After reboot, replace the V4A post-fs-data.sh with the custom one (I forget where I got it from) and reboot again
4. Configure V4A and done.

For me, I will try the method with post-fs-data.sh replacement first since it is simple and straightforward. If it doesn't work, I will resort to the above steps. The post-fs-data.sh replacement worked with my OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 8 Pro, Pixel 6 Pro, and Galaxy Tab S7+. However, I had to use the above steps for my OnePlus 9 Pro since the sh script didn't work for this phone.

This is odd. I use Amazon music HD and Viper won't work with that at all but works with Deezer 100%, spotty on Tidal (some songs yes, some no).

No you are not crazy, I just noticed that the canary version of Magisk doesn't seem to the repo inside of the app.
I've attached the necessary files and it seems we may have to rely on GitHub for future updates
Full disclosure: I do not own a pixel 6 pro. But I thought I'd offer a super simple and possibly working fix for V4A on your device. Using my pixel 4a 5g and running A12.. Ive been running the same version of V4A for the last year.. and it worked on A11 and A12. It's simply plug and play. One time flash of the zip, immediately reboot and done. Nothing more is needed. No replacing files. No Ainur. And AML isn't needed either.
Works perfect on my device. Installs 2.5.0.4 (and not 2.7.x). But honestly, it's the same thing for all intents and purposes.
Like I said, in the interests of being totally honest -- I have no clue if it'll work for you. I hope it does. As V4A is essential for the best possible sound. Especially when using headphones.. it transforms my sound from walkman to a Bose when using them. With a few tweaks, it literally feels like I'm at the concert and the music is coming from every different direction. Absolutely indispensable, this app!
Ps... I'm only on your all's forums because I'm super jealous and wanna pretend that I have a p6p. Probably sounds super gay, but I just wanna hold one.
Here's the link to the zip. I haven't seen anyone say that it didn't work for them. Also, the zip says that it's for Android 11. But that's because it came out before 12, and the existing v4as we're only working for Android <10.
If this one doesn't do the trick, I'm guessing it's just 1 step/tweak away from doing so. Lemme know if it works for y'all. Good luck and God bless.

Much appreciated, thanks for confirming for me since these days it seems a little more challenging to find info around here than it was a fear years ago. Granted it's also been a while since I've been on a XDA device subforum at release trying to root. After rooting this baby last night though I feel like a noob all over again, seems like the process changes a pretty good amount each time I dive back in with Google trying to make it harder and harder with each major version update.
Edit: oh boy, I still have my cringey post banner from years ago... Yikes.
