Bluetooth battery usage

I noticed that bluetooth is always on top (along with mobile standby) on my Defy's battery usage stats both with stock roms and with jboogies3.
Before the Defy, I was using a HTC Magic which had the same high battery usage w/ bluetooth with <2.2 roms but with 2.2 (cyanogenmod) bluetooth battery usage falled back to about 25% of the original. I thought it was improved in android 2.2.. or could it be cyanogen fixing something?
Any thoughts on this? Others also have similarly high battery use with bluetooth?

Yes, Mobile standby and Bluetooth both account for 30% of my battery use. Perhaps it's because it's 'chatting' and scanning for other Bluetooth peers all the time, I have been amazed at how many other phones you see when you scan for pairing for example.
that's okay.. but I still wonder how bluetooth usage could get restricted on cyanogen's mod on the magic with a pure software solution (as it was the same high before as well) and what we could do to achieve similar results on the defy..
ofc one viable approach is to turn on/off BT whenever entering/exiting the car, but it still sounds a bit lame for me. An application doing nothing else but turning on bluetooth in the morning and in the afternoon at a specific time for an hour could be a bit better

[Q] Performance Hit with Encryption?

Has anyone using the stock encryption noticed a performance hit? if so, how bad?

Battery drain

Hi All,
I'm an happy user of my xa1 g3112 updated with last version Android 7 40.0A.6.175
I suppose after the last update a bug has been triggered and now I'm suffering a battery drain issue
Bluetooth is continuosly eating battery in the listed application is always on top or second place
This is happening despite no devices are connetced
So far that's the list of attempt I've done to fix the issue wihtout luck:
- Reboot in safe mode
- delete all the devices paired
- restore app permission
- Disabled bluetooth scanning
- enable stamina
- as last flag bluetooth processes as not optimized
Anyone has the same exerience, any fix thanks
Stefano

Hi
You've only to reset your device. You installed an app that drains battery in the background or you've enabled something wrong.
As last chance before resetting cancel the data of Bluetooth on applications settings:highfive:
Wish could be helpful

I have the same problem,
same build but it seems to me that the problem existed before the last update, the bluetooth was used in pairing with the car to play only music.
Are there any solutions?

I've bought the smartphone in September 2017 and I didn't had the feeling I had this issue at the beginning.
Is the problem triggered by an update? Or it's present also with stock rom?
Have you the dual or single sim version?
That's really a pain the solution could be wait for oreo or rollback to the factory rom.

Dual sim version
I bought it in December and I updated it as soon as it was turned on. the problem has always been there for me
Tried to restore factory setting, issue still present after 4 hours 120 mAh used by bluetooth without any paired device, any advice on how to move forward?
Any foreccast on OREO update? this could be the only one fix
Xperia XA1 big battery drain in standby after Android v8 Feb 2019 security updates
Confirm that ever since I received Nov 2018, and then Feb 2019 Android v8 security patch updates, in late Feb 2019. I have been experiencing significant extra battery drain with my Dual SIM Xperia XA1 whenever Bluetooth is enabled.
Currently I'm experiencing this on 48.1.A.2.101 (Android 8.0.0 with 5 February 2019 security patch), but believe the issue started with 48.1.A.2.73 (8.0.0 with 5 November 2018 security patch which I personally received & installed on 26th Feb 2019, Feb security patch then became available shortly after)
Has taken me a while (& I used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm) to track down that I don't believe it's any new or misbehaving apps. And like others here I initially wondered if Bluetooth background scanning (Changed via Settings > Lock screen & security > Location > Scanning) could have been the culprit, but no that's not made a significant difference.
At the moment the only workaround I've found is manually turning on/off Bluetooth from quick actions, but before Feb updates my Xperia had excellent all day battery when in light use, frequently being at 40%+ at end of the day, now with battery drain issue I'm lucky to make 30% by 6pm, often worse!
See attached for screenshot from GSam battery monitor when I was only lightly using my phone, but only switched off Bluetooth between approx 10.30am-1pm today and the slope of battery drain is substantially different!
(I have just recently asked if the developers of that app can add a Bluetooth On/Off orange bar overlay to that graph which would makes things much more definitive to track)

Lineage 15.1 Queries and Suggestions!

Hi there,
Been using Lineage 14.1 on my OPO and now 15.1. It's great, works flawlessly.
I have noted a few things and a few suggestions:
1. Mobile Network Standby, drains and kills max amount of the battery as the SOT, despite on WiFi....never observed in 14.1. WiFi would use 1% and Mobile Network 22%. Any fixes expected? Any other user facing it?
2. Advanced battery usage should display, Camera, GPS, Location and Flashlight.
3. Call history, doesn't give details like in 14.1?
4. Battery while on charge and device powered off, should display percentage and the notification light.
5. There should be an option for call recording.
Thanks and hope these suggestions go to the developers.
In my opinion is the best Android ROM!

General Android 12 December security patch rolling out to Google Pixel, factory images & OTAs live

The latest update of 2021 is rolling out today with the Android 12 December security patch for the Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro.
In the most recent Android Security & Privacy Year in Review, Google notes that “no critical security vulnerabilities affecting the Android platform were publicly disclosed without a security update or mitigation available for Android devices.” Additionally, there was an 84% year-over-year jump in security patches during Q4 2018 compared to the prior year.
Besides the December Feature Drop, this update widely rolls out improvements to the Pixel 6’s under-display fingerprint sensor that were first introduced last month in the US and Japan. There is no update for the Pixel 3/XL this month, with the next release coming sometime in the first quarter of 2022.
The Pixel 6 update will be available next week.

Usually by installing the new firmware, sometimes it also takes specific app updates through Google Playstore, not every new "feature" from a "feature drop" is bound/connected to the firmware as such.

Those international P6 / P6P users are gonna be very upset since they were waiting on the mid Nov patch and didn't get it. Now they wait even further for the FPR updates. Not a great look from Google.
Yep, that makes sense, the phone that is affected by the most issues gets the update last.

Classic Google.
Also don't forget the outside US/Japan users still do not have the absolutely essential Fingerprint fix, so they'll now have to wait for roughly 1 1/2 months after release for that important bugfix.
Android 12 was postponed, Pixel 6 reveal got postponed, the first essential bug fix firmware gets postponed...
Not impressed, Google. Not impressed.
So many issues they need another week to try to correct them lmao. Maybe if their internal testers actually tested things before releasing a half baked OS and phones they wouldn't have so many bugs to fix.
I installed the update manually and the fingerprint sensor still sucks big time. I have an iPad with a build in fingerprint sensor and it reads almost every time on the first try and I only taught every finger once. On my Pixel I taught them twice and it still misses it every other try.

No need for that if you have a big community testing your beta phone firmwares for free, even though Google ignored most bug reports, lol. There is still a heckload of stuff going wrong that was present in the first Beta.
Ahh, just another week of crappy reception - today's highlight: 4G+ full reception with an exclamation mark even after reboot. It's already gotten to the point where I even expect to have no reception when I need my phone on the way. I regret not having returned it.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the new firmware will fix these issues for you.
It's a shame that companies release a thousand dollar product, yet it still fails to use the most basic of features without problem. Even if it only affects a portion of the userbase... shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Reception, call quality... I mean, damnit. This is a PHONE. It's DESIGNED to make a CALL. To CONNECT to the INTERNET: And if that is not possible without difficulty... omega uff.
I don't think I've EVER seen so many fixes. Oy vey. Just shows how buggy A12 and the p6's are...
I don't know about any of you, but I'm fairly ticked that we have to wait another week for an update. I've had it with this damn FPR. It works great right after redoing the prints, then after a while it will go from working most of the time to me having to use my other thumb or the passcode. I was really hoping for a big fix today... Also, my battery getting hot during chrome use and some other situations, and the bad battery life...
I've also about had it with Google. A12 has been sooo buggy, and to be honest, material you is kind of a joke. 4 whole colors to choose from, two of which are AWFUL, no font, no icons, not very material YOU. I've actually been keeping an eye on the Samsung s22 launch. I never thought I'd ever own another Samsung phone, but I'm close. The s21 got A12 less than a month from the pixel launch, so, it doesn't seem like I'd have to wait 6 months for OS updates, and, they have a theme store. So, you can actually make it yours lol. Ugh...

I forgot about this. I rarely seem to have full bars, 5G, LTE, whatever. At my house I get one bar... My 4xl had full bars. Pretty much everywhere I had full or almost. I too, regret not returning this phone. If I hadn't gave my mom my 4xl right away, I would have. We'll see if Google actually fixes this BS. If not, I'm sure Sammy will give me most of my money back for a trade for an S22.

Yep..... material you is hideous. Love how it changes the hue of the greys instead of just the accent color. Thought I wouldn't say it either, this will be the last Google phone for me. Can't wait to get rid of it.

Back in the day, Pixel firmware updates never had these many fixes - it's a shame, and quite frankly, pathetic, that Google released Android 12 - after a 3/4 year of public beta testing ! - in an obviously broken state.
And jea, I can only agree with your assessment with Material You. We lost a lot of customization and are now forced to endure a UI that was made for an 80 year old colour-blind, requiring moon-sized letters, widgets and unicolor-backgrounds across the board.
If I could, I would immediately return the entire UI to Android 11 - that one was beautiful and just worked. I see no advantage in Android 12. It's the first Android update - in my Android phone owning years - that felt like an actual downgrade, instead of an upgrade.

Sideloaded the update myself but for those not prepared to do that it's been a long stretch to wait for the FPR fix Google saw fit to issue to their 'important markets'.
