I am running Legendary Rom RC2 and Samurai kernel.
The problem i am having is with google maps/navigation. It has been randomly locking up lately. Seems to do it randomly. Sometimes it will navigate fine for 20 or 30 minutes and then i look at it and its locked up (screen still shows map but none of the buttons works- i have to pull battery to restart). Sometimes it does this a minute or two into navigation.
I've waited to post this hoping i could figure out what was happening. I've tred waiting to see if its just a temporary lockup but its not. I am also running juicedefender so i turned that off but it still locks up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled maps and it still happens. I havent been able to notice a pattern of it occurring when there is a signal loss or certain areas or anything like that.
Anyone else having a similar issue or have any suggestions of things to try to fix it? Thanks!
What version of Samurai? There were issues with 2.08. Try uninstalling Maps and redownload from the Market.

Still no luck getting this to work. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling multiple times. Also tried a new kernel (Nubernal now instead of Samurai). Any other suggestions?
How about clearing AGPS data with GPS Test or GPS status and download new AGPS data?

You can always ODIN back to stock if all else fails. I hate google navigation. Google has been sucking it up lately with their new maps release. I get lag GALORE, and have also had some FC's with navigation.

I agree. That is why I use Telenav 7.1. Clear voice and hasn't locked up at all on EI22.

I've noticed this same thing now and again, and I'm chalking it up to the Google Maps updates. I don't think it's anything to do with GB or any of the ROMs, because I'm pretty sure it didn't happen before Google Maps updated their version with the inside maps, which I think was 6.0, but I might be off on the version.
I have a hard time going with TeleNav becaues Google has so many nice features like sharing via email/text the exact location, but I seem to be having a harder time with it locking up (like the OP said, maps still shows) and missing a turn!
How can I get the latest version of TeleNav?
Google just needs to re-release their first version of MAPS. I have virtually zero lag when I first bought my phone, the maps that came installed worked perfect. now its barely useable.
I have tried using Telenav but its just not my thing. I never use GPS navigation anyways. I only use google places. Maybe two times out of the year I will actually use GPS nav.

In the Market, scroll down to Sprint Apps and it is in those. I was shocked today and Telenav actually changed routes due to traffic...first time ever!

I found it in the market (for some reason, I thought if I went that way I would have to pay for it) which was redirected from the telenav website. For what it's worth, I did end up with 7.1.0.7101357 according to titanium backup.
not a fan of telenav but since it sounds like its not a problem with just my phone i might have to get use to it. hopefully google fixes this soon.
so its not a problem with google maps/navigation, at least in my case. telenav does the exact same thing. i tried it out a few times today and it was also very laggy and then eventually it completely locked up. i used gps status to reset the gps but that didnt help. any other suggestions?

Have you flashed the GPS fix or a ROM with it included so you start out with like 8 out of 9 satellites?
Navigation is stuck on "Searching for GPS". Is there a fix to this?
I know there is a fix around the forum somewhere for it. You might want to give us some more info like what kernel/rom you are running. I am RasBeanJelly and franco.Kernel lastest of each and my GPS locks on in less then 10secs. More info about what you are running will help us out.

I recommend switching to a different ROM such as Codename Android. Some ROMS have a GPS problem like you are describing. The kernel has nothing to do with it. Hope I helped.
Its coming on all ROMS D:
Still getting same error even after trying CNA. I even went to GPS settings and checked "Internal GPS antinna" or something. But still getting same error. Could the phone be faulty?
Have you tried either of these?

i have had instances where it was a KERNEL problem..not the rom...certain kernels couldnt lock on GPS..flashed a different one and it worked..flashed back to test it again and it didnt...so it was definitely the kernel causing it...so he can try flashing another kernel

Old gmail maps works but now I don't know how to install previous version.. can anyone help me?
Maybe it's a app problem (6.14 maps..)
thanks
Install GPS status from market and let it download agps data and point it towards the sky and see how that goes. If you see satellites and they lock, go back to maps; it should work now.
Some gnex came with faulty GPS module. I have two gnex and e first one I got had the problem and hasn't been fixed with several ROM, kernel and tools and GPS scripts.

I don't think it's a hardware problem because with previous version of maps it works! so I think it's a google maps problem.. but I don't know what to do to make maps work!
This is a Google problem, it's happened once before to a ton of android users, it may have come with an alert "unable to sign into account" (that's how mine was this morning, plus searching for GPS. All seems well now.
So I'm an avid fan of CoPilot. I'm able to go from point A to point B without data and using solely GPS. That said, since updating past CM 9, the GPS module has not liked to play nice with CoPilot! I have a video of what I'm talking about:
http://youtu.be/ZypwoUF8xvQ
If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. I do not want to go all the way back to ICS.
Is this experienced on one specific ROM, or is this on EVERY JB ROMs you have used? If not just swap a ROM and see what happens...

GPS has been wonky for me on all JB ROMs. You can try a program like GPS Test to clear GPS data. Works for me most of the time.

I agree with frosted. I've also been using GPS status. It allows you to download assisted GPS data and calibrate if needed. It results in much faster and better locks.

Never had a problem before JB roms. No need for any kind of data as I do not have data, and haven't for years. That's why I like this program...don't need data. I've been suggested this gps test program before and it had no effect.
It really baffles me why the GPS does what's shown in the youtube video. I thought it was coincidental until a second phone of mine did the exact same thing. Both are samsung epics. I've tried:
CM 10.1
AOKP 4.2.2
Pac Man latest (v22?)
All are the same.
Edit: GPS test sees some satellites, but never locks.
I'm on CM 10.1 and can not even FIND a GPS satellite let alone lock on it. I have tried all the GPS tests SNC fixes... NADA!! Clean ROM install also... Fixed permissions... Cleared everything... Uninstalled reinstalled... Never had issue before updating from Gingerbread!!

Our phone was never meant to go beyond GB. The fact that it has ICS and JB based roms that were never meant for it is amazing in it's own right. With that in mind, if something doesn't work right give it time and devs will find a fix.
I think I may have learned something. On the first boot, it seems to lock GPS just fine. No alternating like that video. I changed to Slim Bean rom, but I'm hesitant to reboot the device for risk of breaking my GPS. You guys think if it were to break in the future, wiping Dalvik Cache would work? I think I remember reading somewhere (on a different phone) that wiping dalvik cache was required to use a feature (which I believe was MMS). It's a stretch, I know.

I have a 3rd Epic that has this problem. I believe the GPS module might be fried, my friend. I upgraded two other Epics on the same upgrade path with no problems (well, until now).
@Dynamic - Yes, of course. What is done to this phone is simply amazing and has made it so I don't feel I need to upgrade. That, in its own right, is amazing. If the devs do not know that this could be a problem, well how are they going to fix it? I'm not selfish, just trying to help iron out all remaining problems. CoPilot is a great program, too!

Oh, no. I was just thinking I came off as spoiled. Felt I needed to clarify.
Didn't reboot the phone, but tried again to lock the satellites and got the same phenomenon. Wiping the Dalvik cache seems to fix the problem, but I had to re-install CoPilot.
So does that mean there's a problem with the way App Data is being stored?

I have, but CoPilot randomly works and randomly doesn't. I really couldn't tell you either way if it's fixed. It seems to be a problem exclusively with CoPilot, if other programs work.

I agree, I think CoPilot is the culprit. If it hasn't worked on any JB roms then it sounds like there's an incompatibility issue which I'm sure will be fixed upstream at some point.
So it took me a LONG time, but I FINALLY figured it out! I now have CoPilot working %100, though it sucks my battery (even when plugged in).
On first boot, it works fine, but things I noticed:
-When somebody calls, GPS starts doing this again:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZypwoUF8xvQ
-Rebooting doesn't fix the problem
-Wiping Dalvik and/or cache does not fix the problem.
So what has to be done is you have to go into apps, select the copilot app, clear cache, then exit to homescreen.
Turn off GPS and start up copilot
Go to the "GPS" setting in the menu and turn on GPS
GPS should lock all fine! No more of what happens above.
I mean, it's annoying, but CoPilot is WAY better than my standalone GPS.
Hi all, I'm experiencing a lot of issues with my brand new phone using offline navigation.
It simply doesn't find any GPS signal. I tried 2 different apps for offline nav: Navmii and Here.
Using google maps under 4g signal it works but when I change country I use one of the 2 apps mentioned above (so that I don't pay roaming) and simply it doesn't find any satellite to connect.
Do you think it's an hardware problem?
I've also tried the application "GPS Test" and it's always on "NO FIX" status.
Usually my zone has a very good signal and I never had a problem with other GPS nav or smartphones, during 3 hours travel last week on an autoroute in north italy I never had signal.

Yes it is!
I did 2 more tries few minutes ago using google maps offline (I set up the current location where I am now yesterday evening), and gmaps is able to locate me.
Why Here and Navmii are not able to use it? I've downloaded all the necessary maps on both the apps.
thanks a lot for your reply!

The strange thing is that even with "GPS test" application I was not able to get a stable signal...
I am running CM 12.1 on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, and also can't get Navmii to see the GPS info. GPSstatus, gmap, osmand, and some nautical apps all work fine. I found that Navmii has had this problem before, about a year ago, so that is where to become suspicious. Lollipop 5.0 and then 5.1 broke a lot of things with their changes so this is not too surprising - just disappointing.

I solved it 2 days ago. Problem was my metal cover which was causing a shield around the device. All other functions were working fine but the GPS.
Thank you anyway (do not purchase metal cases)
I have an M9 phone, exactly the same problem.
only he does not have a case.
I'm constantly losing the GPS signal during navigation.
I've already replaced the phone two times through warranty and the mainboard got replaced each time.
The last time was just one month ago.
The problem always remained though.
The last days I could observe that this issue seems to be caused by my provider. Is this possible?
I have travelled through 4 bordering countries the last few days. The GPS worked great.
As soon as I passed the border to my country and the network switched to my home provider the GPS signal got lost shortly after and lost signal continuously frequently.
We were joking a lot about it because it happened every single time.
Is it possible that my provider's network can somehow cause theaw GPS drop outs?
Can I fix?
I'm happy about any help!
Thanks
I guess I am alone with that

Try using this app to clear or update assistance data (AGPS).
I have also found that a GPS connection is made much faster when the data is turned on.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=en_GB
Thank you, but unfortunately this doesn't help. I've already tried it many times.
I only have the problem in my country or rather with my provider.
I should try a friend's SIM to confirm it.
The problem really seems to be related to my mobile connection.
As soon as I turn on the airplane mode the GPS works perfectly.
Anyone got an idea what the issue may be?

I usually don't have offline maps and I'd like to be connected while navigating or be able to receive messages.
Besides that it's a fault that shouldn't happen with the phone. Using GPS should work without limitation.

I've being using Navigon Europe for the last 6 years. First in LG-P880 and last 2 years with G4 H815. Sometimes, but only sometimes, maybe weather, high buildings, I don't know.... I have problems with GPS.
I've use it in Poland, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Luxembourg.
My location is set for "High Accuracy" (GPS and Networks), no matter if DATA is ON or not.
Of course that when DATA is ON my location is detected almost instantly.
But if you see that network is messing with the GPS, try to limit network access on your network settings. Maybe it works.

Or GPS is fine but the software not... I mean, the apk might not be the best.
How can a provider mess with the GPS? The signal are where they are, not possible to shake, move them, hide them...
Maybe the lack of signal from the provider might counts concerning the maps. If the data needed to navigate is downloaded and how fast.
Also, with no data, how it's possible to use GPS without offline maps??

My GPS is fine!
Stop answering my posts as if I have an issue.
Thank you
It's definitely not a faulty device since the motherboard got replaced already two times.
It's somehow an incompatibility between my provider's network and my phone's GPS.
I am using GPS test since many years and love it. It doesn't help in this case though. The GPS status there also freezes when the GPS stops working.
To answer the question how I can use navigation without data:
Google Maps caches the maps so I can use it also offline.

And you don't have to turn OFF data while using them.
And once again, maybe there's nothing wrong with your device or carrier, maybe the app that you're using, or how accurate and updated are the maps of a specific country.
In Portugal, there are places where the GPS goes crazy, just because of the maps.
In Poland, sometimes I'm driving on the grass. The roads where deviated but the map was not updated. So, I know that is a problem of the map because I know how the roads where before and now.
Someone who don't will say that the GPS is crazy...
BTW, in The Netherlands, 6 years ago, I use to drive over the water most part of the time :silly:
Hi,
have you found a solution to this?
I notice very similar issues now and then during road navigation, gmaps (and others previously). GPS signal repeatedly disconnects and then reconnects after a while, and velocity reading becomes 0 or odd.
I thought it was overheating, but a carrier incompatibility issue seems plausible,.
Hi!
No, unfortunately I didn't find a solution. Replacing the motherboard didn't help either. I have a new phone now and don't have the problem anymore.
