Download and install Google Search 3.2 with Google Launcher Now
Google has pushed out an update to the Google Search app, which now means there's also an update to the Google Experience Launcher. We've got the APK for you to install below, and this is looking like a substantial update – it looks like the new (and probably official) name for the Google Experience Launcher is Google Now Launcher.
What's New
Google says:
*Bug fixes and performance improvements
We say:
*New Google Now Launcher name with splash screen on start up
*6 columns on tablet home screens (up from 5)
*AirBNB reservations in Google Now
*Fixes disappearing icon in the hotseat bug
*Hotword detection now works in British and Canadian English
*Icon imports from old home screen
(we're still checking it out, might be more to come)
Be aware, you need to have the Google Home stub app installed to see the Google Now Launcher. This branding also doesn't show up on the Nexus 5, which already has the new launcher installed by default.
APK Download
The APK is signed by Google and upgrades your existing app. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Rather than wait for Google to push this download to your devices, which can take days, download and install it just like any other APK.
File name: com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-3.2.16.1006154.arm.
Version: (Android 4.1+).

I don't think it includes a launcher. If you already have GEL installed it will be updated, but it doesn't include one. I uninstalled my GEL launcher before installing this apk, and there was no change on the stock launcher. It wasn't until I installed GEL again that I saw the changes, namely now it's called "Google now launcher". Also the icons are still a bit on the big side. Good upgrade though, thanks!

I got 3.2.17 update in the play store. It didn't include GEL. I had removed the launcher so I added it back. It's now GNL.
"OK Google" works when you have Google now open if you have stock launcher but that is it. You have to have Google now open. For it to work on any home screen, you need to install Google now launcher.
Edit: hot word detection is cool but at the expense of battery. Wow! Idle all night (over 9 hours) and 11% battery gone. Before enabling and adding GNL, is lose about 3% overnight (with everything syncing and location services on).
Edit 2: I disabled hot word detection and battery life is a lot better. The active listening needs to be optimized. It certainly doesn't work as efficiently as it would on the moto x.
I don't see much advantage of GNL over the stock launcher so far.

Newbie here. Installed GEL when I first got my Moto G and it's updated to new Google Now Launcher. However one quirk I notice is widgets don't work with this launcher....is that correct or do I have settings wrong?
I navigate to settings>home> it shows two launchers, one of which is Google Now. When using Google Now, when I flipped through the home screen pages, it only includes my apps and doesn't show any widget screenshots. When I revert back to default Moto G launcher, there are pages of both apps and widgets....
Am I missing something or is this a Moto G thing? Many thanks!

You should try the Nova Beta Launcher is really fast, faster than stock or GEL especially when you disable all animations.

I like nova (and apex, too). Currently still on GNL by I'll probably either go back to stock or maybe nova. But, when warranty either runs out or I get closer to that, I'll root this phone and rom it to death like I have with my last few phones.
I can't believe that I've had this phone for a whole month and haven't rooted it yet. But, I don't feel the need yet. I'm eager to see what happens with this launcher, though. Not so sure about the hit words, though. After all, it's just swipe, tap, to do the same thing.

Black Status Screen Bars on S3
Hi guys.
I've tried this on both my Nexus 7 2013 (Kit Kat 4.4.2) and Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300 with Jelly Bean 4.3).
On the Nexus everything works fine. On the S3, however, I now have a black status bar, instead of a transparent one.
On the sotck launcher (you know, Touchwiz) I already had transparent status bars and I thought the Google Now Laucher had those too, no matter what device you installed it in.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Hi there.
I currently have the Note 8.0 and its currently on Android 4.2.2.
I'm looking for a good Google Now and a Google Experience launcher for my tablet as the Samsung Touchwiz is well...simple and friendly but i want something a bit more "up to date".
I want something that when you say "OK Google" it will open up Google Now automatically plus those cool Kitkat icons found on the Nexus 5/7.
Any suggestions please?
or is there a better launcher apart from Google Now & GEL?
More up to date, meh. Launcher's rarely change much beyond adding new bugs or regressions.
If you want the GNL/GEL just copy the APK off a Nexus or download it from one of the many news sites (like Android Police or Android Central).
If you want the icons, use something like Nova, Apex, Go, or ADW and get an icon pack. Google's launcher will not change your icons and does not support icon packs.
Existing custom launchers do not support side swipe to Google Now the way Google's launcher does. Some do emulate it by auto launching Google Now when swiping to the right but it is a poor imitation.

I can help you with that. Just make sure you have the latest Google search installed.

After downloading it says "...problem with parsing the package".
Please help.
Try again, That's indicative of a bad download. I just downloaded it and installed just fine.
EDIT: Added MD5 and SHA-1's to OP
The Google Experience Launcher is now available in the Play Store. I installed it on my Note 8 and have been reasonably pleased. The problem is I can't seem to get the "ok Google" detection to work. It works fine if I press the microphone button, but won't recognize it when I say "ok Google" even when I'm in Google Now. It also won't allow me to activate the "from any screen" function. When I try to train it by saying "ok Google" three times, it's like the microphone isn't picking anything up.
Has anyone managed to make "ok Google" voice detection work on their Note 8?
EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out. Button Savior (non root) uses Accessibility Service, which deactivates the microphone. Bummer.
I can’t figure it out.
Install the apk like anything else. Then select it as the preferred launcher in system preferences, if it doesn't prompt you to do it when you install it.
no launcher in system preferences
Home Manager/Switcher from the Play Store enables third party launcher installation.
Doubt you need another app to change it.
On EMUI it's:
Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> Default Apps -> Launcher.
Neither of these options work. They do not let you change the launcher on the china phone at least via default apps nor home manager. Home manager just pops up nova launcher's app properties and tells you to set it to default but there isn't a way to do that in that window.

Then that is a change in EMUI 9.
EMUI 8 you just go to settings.

I can tell you that the launcher is called "drawer home" it shows in nova at the bottom where it acts like you can change it. But when you click it pops up the default app list and launcher isn't there..

See this thread, and this post.
Huawei apparently disabled the option to select a default launcher in EMUI 8.2 and 9.0 due to some resellers putting fake EMUI launchers on the devices, infesting them with malware / adware.
However, the Chinese users on Club Huawei went bananas and now Huawei have backtracked and have stated that it will be reverted in the next update.
For now, you'll have to use adb to uninstall Huawei Home (make sure you have installed your preferred launcher before you do that).

Sadly I have .126 and they were talking about it being "broken" in .120 #_# so hopefully its fixed soon..
This is only an issue on the Chinese ROM version? Not the International ROM?
Not sure about on the Mate 20X or Mate 20 series. But international versions of some other phones' ROMs have the issue too.
I expect it depends on whether this 'feature' was pushed to an update on the individual phone / update schedule before Huawei changed their mind on this policy.

It seems to be implied that .12x (on EMUI 9) will remain broken. Later updates will fix it.
EMUI 10 on EVR-AL00 model still does not support 3rd party launchers...
I gave up looking, wouldn't it be good to get it on 10.1... Buckley's of course, right?
Hey friends,
& Especially for you who are rocking the China version. You brave souls.
I'm curious to hear what you think of Huawei's default launcher? Opinions? Thoughts?

I'm using Mate 10 pro right now and I've bought Nova a couple of years ago. Nova is the best launcher for me, but huawei luncher is not bad either. I've used it for a year now heavy modified and westernised. I'll publish my review after I get the Mate 20 x next week.
Neato. I used Nova since I got my Mate 9, but it sounds like only the Default will work on the new Chinese versions.
Are you getting the China version?
It's very functional, but relatively slow and laggy - that's my experience on both the P20 Pro and Honor Note 8.
The HN8 is my main phone. I'm using Trebuchet at the moment, which is immensely smoother and faster.
There shouldn't be a problem using 3rd party launchers after 9.12x.xxx updates, but currently you'll have to go the adb method of removing Huawei Home to force the OS to choose your already installed preference, as Huawei had removed the option to select another launcher as default after complaints about malware etc - after an outcry it's now going to be reverted.

Yes, but I haven't plan to use any other launcher than stock anyway. It has its advantages and it is more customizable than one might think.

Oh. :fingers-crossed:
The Huawei Mate 20x launcher is A-OK. It is not laggy or problematic. If you want to use a third party launcher prior to the Huawei home manager fix, use Twisted Home Manager and gestures only for navigation in both the launcher and phone.
The Twisted Home Manager works.

They all say use wicked launcher and stuff but what they really mean is just go click nova launcher and it will launch but don't hit the home button or anything. You can only use gestures.. Which honestly to me isn't replacing the launcher when only doing setting the default launcher to me is "replacing the launcher"

Doesn't work for me either. Have gestures only setup but any swipe to get the multi tasking view always reverts it back to the stock launcher.

What did work for me was deleting the Huawei Home using adb:
adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.launcher
After that, the system used the other launcher available (Nova in my case).
The only downside is that the swipe up for home using gesture navigation doesn't work anymore. The nav bar though, works perfectly. It bothers me because on the Honor note 10, with previous EMUI, you could change the launcher and the gesture still worked.
Thanks to mudnightoil who pointed this out before in this same thread.

Got it. From typical computer window. While phone is up and running and after saying allow for the ADB connection on the phone. My hold up was changing USB from Charging to MTP and resetting/checking that USB is really set on.
Now I wish I could kill the repeated "remove the malicious (all non-China) apps prompt.
I like the standard launcher. Just wish the would fix it so the home screen would landscape like my M10 Pro does
I saw someone reported the default launcher could be staggerring, though I would like to share my input.
I have been using Samsung phone from Galaxy S5 and I have been turned the animations off in the Developers mode. I didn't see the difference turning them off nor the need of keeping them up. If you were willing to try without the animations for a few days, you probably will like it that way.

Same as in many, go to about phone and tap on the build 5 times. It shows up under abnout phone, but under ther bottom advanced drop down menu. (I don't know why it seems the most useful items are under the last entry on menus with a "v" indicator). It is often easier to just search from the top of settings.
Is there any way to enabled gesture on nova launcher? It's automatically switch to Poco launcher when I'm using gestures on nova launcher.. My Old phone don't have this problem... Is this MIUI 14 new problem?
It's been a few years since Xiaomi blocked this functionality with third-party launchers by integrating its launcher into the system.
