I know that some have already been able to install this on their rooted Pixel C. There seems to be several versions on the internet that have been tailored for different devices.
If you have V4A working on your Pixel C, please post a link to the file that you are using. Thank you.
Does anyone know if pixel xl will get a custom rom with Magisk built right in, like the Htc 10 has with Viper10 ?
I was checking out the Htc 10 forum and now Viper10 has Magisk built right in. Its really beneficial because you can disable the root with Magisk and take ota updates then turn the Magisk back on. This would make things so much easier for everyone.
I would love to see roms like Pure Nexus come with Magisk as that would be awesome.
I know its offensive to ask rom devs on roms they are building and or when they will be out and such, but maybe someone has heard through the grape vine and may be able to give a heads up on if Magisk could possibly be added to the coming customs roms for the pixel xl.
I think you misunderstood what that Magisk ROM is. It's not a ROM with Magisk built in. Magisk ROMs work like MultiROM on the Nexus 7 or 5 did and allow you to dual boot multiple ROMs. (In this case, HTC Stock and Viper)
Also even if somebody did make one, Magisk doesn't work on the Pixel devices due to the weird partition layout so you wouldn't even be able to use it.
We can already dual boot different Roms and kernels

I meant a rom with Magisk built right in. The Magisk is systemless root which you can turn it off and be able to take over the air updates because your system is 100% stock with the Magisk turned off.
I was talking about such as the new Htc 10 Viper10 4.4 rom with Magisk built right in to the rom. I would imagine it could still work with the dual partition Pixel XL and I was curious if any rom devs might be working on just such a feature.

That's what I'm saying though, a ROM with Magisk built in is completely different from that Viper thing from today.
The Viper ROM is a Magisk module for the devices existing stock ROM that replaces some files to turn it into a custom ROM (like the framework-res.apk)
You are asking for a ROM with Magisk preinstalled so you don't have to flash extra zip files.
Also, it wouldn't because Magisk itself doesn't work with the Pixel (the first known issue on the official Magisk thread and a post reply under that OP says until the creator of Magisk get's a Pixel, Magisk is incompatible with both Pixels so it wouldn't matter if it's preinstalled or you flash it, it wouldn't work. And not working means you can't even install a Magisk ROM like Viper.

I disagree. Magisk worked on the Pixel's earlier firmware. I used it to decrypt my Pixels. The O update killed it.

Okay one, that website has hundreds of fake how-to guides that are the same one and all they do is change the device/OS name so I wouldn't trust that at all.
Second, maybe it worked but my point is the official Magisk thread says it doesn't work on Pixels because the layout. Since you said it "decrypted" your Pixels, I'm pretty sure Magisk does do that before installing but Magisk itself didn't actually install.
Lastly, there's no such thing yet as Android O so I know you are either trolling or don't know what you are talking about. Not only is 7.1 still Nougat/N but the Pixel launched with 7.1 so it hasn't had a major update that could have killed it if it worked before.

Hi to all,
It seems that BusyBox won't install on my nexus, I tried everything online but nothing worked (i read some Pixel XL guides and tried those).
Anyone managed to install Busybox on 8.0?
Cheers.
Yes. I'm using the Busybox for Android NDK Magisk module. It works for system based or systemless root, so it will install whether you have Magisk installed or not. You can find it in osm0sis' Odds and Ends thread.
Busybox fixed that just instal last version

I concur, this is the best one for most any kind of install.
Thanks to all, any of the busybox apps works now after the update
Does anyone know if any custom
Android 10 time at if yet.
My phone keeps freezing on stock.
Rebooting may at well backup and try something fresh.
Feels like it's taking forever hey? I know pixeldust and colt are on the way. Maybe there waiting for twrp to fix vendor and system. I went back to pie just so I can flash something. :silly:

Just wanted to let anybody know that was wondering, there is a Lineage os Android 10 build that I've seen available. I haven't flashed or tried myself, just thought I'd mention.

If it's the lineage 17 on AFH don't bother, it doesn't boot. I just flashed pixel dust 10 beta and it works great.
Pixel Dust has a beta 10 ROM, just look at the normal thread.
You're freezing on stock 10? What's your setup(custom kernel or any other mods)?

Lol, I'm freezing on Android 10 as well most likely due to Magisk though. There are no mods on my Pixel except for Magisk and Vanced. The camera keeps freezing as well. Android 10 has lots of issues and it sucks that most recently updated custom ROMs are from two - one month ago. I am considering jumping ship for a Galaxy Note 10+.
Ive been lucky so far. Running Stock rom and kernel with Magisk. Mods I am running are Vanced, Gpay Fix,MagiskHide, BusyBox, Riru Core, EdExposed, SQLite and GravityBox.
No freezes or reboots.
Where the link to the Time, can't find it anywhere

Only experienced reboots when running a custom kernel with 10. With stock+Magisk, things have been flawless.

Just about the same, haven't dived into EdExposed, but might have to give it a go for GravityBox.

I think I know the answer but i thought I throw it out here. I'm on stock android 10 rooted and would like to flash PD; without working TWRP is there any way to back up (nandroid) my current rom? (Yes, I have TiBu and it is working.). Thanks.

What exactly is there that you want to backup?
Also, why not go through TWRP?
For me, a fresh flash is best while restoring certain things such as SMS/MMS(I use an app for this), and things such as WhatsAll that backs up to GDrive on its own. Photos through Google Photos, and not much else, for me anyways. [emoji14]

TWRP is not working in android 10 (because you can't mount system) and the nandroid backup fails.

This https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-5/themes/custom-adb-magisk-module-mod-maker-t4186841
Downloaded and flashing now to test
Dont be dissapointed if i revert back to 10, i had issues with the 1st build of stock 11 (i havent tried the 2nd build), and ive seen others have them too
So dont take it personally if it doesnt pan out
Heres how i installed (much like most ROMS)
With the following in platform tools folder (unless you have your adb and fastboot in path) and at command prompt:
1) rom.zip (renamed from its longer name to make flashing easier)
2) twrp.img (renamed from its longer name to make flashing easier)
3) magisk.zip (renamed from its longer name to make flashing easier)
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot twrp.img
On device: wipe usual partitions &/ delete /sdcard/Android folder
push rom.zip /tmp
adb shell twrp install /tmp/rom.zip
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot twrp.img
push magisk.zip /tmp
adb shell twrp install /tmp/magisk.zip
adb reboot system
Setup ROM.....all good so far
Install full Magisk Manager (only stub appears from flashing zip) and reboot for full Magisk
Only gripes so far:
1) As with all ROMs ive ever seen with inbuilt G-Apps: Wheres Gmail? Annoying....
2) Be preprared for pretty much every app to need an update out of the box....needs more recent G-Apps cooked in if possible

Great ROM definitely will stay here ??.... Maybe you should add more features in next builds like the possibility to hide the navbar without having to root (I only root because of this)
Just one question (I'm curious) why the name is Pixel 5a? @Lunarixus
images ? What a mania to present a product to us and not leave images of them

In this case it's Pixel experience, so what you get is the same visually as a Pixel with Android 11.
@Lunarixus
I suspect youre using the device name Pixel 5a to pass SafetyNet out of the box?
I would personally rather it was left at original values (Pixel 2/XL) and then use MagiskHide Props Config to change the fringerprint to Pixel 2/XL Android 11 to pass SafetyNet (as with every other custom Pixel 2/XL ROM 10 ive tested with post-October security patches (Pixekl 2 XL - Android 10), that way its still recognised as a Pixel 2/XL, but maybe thats just me
I mean, i get it, less faffing about for users, but well, its not for me personally - ive just used MagiskHide Props Config to change it back to Pixel 2XL - Android 11

The stock Pixel 2 XL fingerprint has an older platform security patch level so it won't pass on a newer ROM (in this case the stock FP is October and my ROM is November)
So I use Pixel 5a as the device name to keep Safetynet in BASIC mode and I user the Pixel 5 fingerprint to have a newer security patch fingerprint.
So no, using Pixel 2 XL as stock is not an option anymore.
excellent, I would prefer the rom like this, I had a problem with my jabra helmets, for a moment it is heard with jumps, but then well, another thing, for my curious, I have seen that in google photos, the unlimited storage in original photos It does not have an expiration date, it will always be like this, like the first pixels?

Yes, it uses the first Pixels permission to make that happen so it will be indefinitely unlimited.

All custom ROM's ive tested on the post-October security patch will pass SafetyNet with MagiskHid eProps Config, setting it to Pixel 2/XL and choosing Android 10 fingerprint. It passes in basic mode, without forcing basic mode....
Anyways this is a moot point for me as im heading back to Android 10 as this seems to have the same as yet unfixed issue with battery usage, it dropped dramatically on idle after i went to sleep last night, chewing through through battery. Your mileage may vary.

Not arguing, just pointing out, its a custom ROM, 99.9% of people are gonna root it, otherwise they'd be on stock...
Changing the device name has potential issues....
Hello!! Been using for couple of days, everything is great! Battery isn't still stable yet but that's normal in initial setups.
I'm just missing one thing (for now): Add cards to power menu is not possible... Can you please add it to next build? Thanks! @Lunarixus

good luck with this one, been there, done that, not again, certain users like to make things more complicated than they need to be but fail to read the "whys" things are the way they are (like in this instance of taimen no longer supported) then argue back. thanks for the awesome ROM and all the work you do for us throughout the years! I appreciate it!
