Question Any luck flashing the T-Mobile firmware to a global variant? - OnePlus 9 Pro

I have a global variant OnePlus 9 pro. It seems that my phone may not have the full features that T-Mobile has to offer with their variant of the phone. I'm also noticing that with the new Google dialer that's been implemented, I'm unable to get the visual voicemail working (see picture for what it prompts). I guess the question here really is, would the T-Mobile firmware resolve issues like this or is this more of a sim card/carrier issue?

The regular tmobile variant doesn't even give you vvm via the dialer (op dialer) because you get to use their crappy vvm app where you are asked to pay for additional services.
If you want vvm, download their app.

I've seen threads on reddit and other forums where people had the native visual voicemail working and it was fully functional. I would imagine that there should be a fix for this. Their vvm app is trash so I'm not planning on doing that.

They probably used Magisk mods/fingerprint changes to make the Google Dialer work fully on their phones. Iirc, changing the fingerprint to a Pixel device not only "unlocks" visual voicemail within the Google Dialer, as well as transcription (if you pay for it, that is), but also call screening. However, as I mentioned in the thread detailing how to do that (here), it creates a lot of unintentional side effects. Also, as I mentioned, there IS a difference between VVM (which is free and simply allows you to listen to voicemails without actually dialing into your VM) and transcribed voicemails (which is the voicemail-to-text feature). Either CAN be accessed without T-Mobile's proprietary software, but the latter must be added to your monthly bill to actually work.

Would something like this be a viable root method with the additional mods that are added in this guideline? I don't want to cause unnecessary system app problems nor brick the device. It seems that the OnePlus 9 pro has the google dialer installed out of the box, mine being the global edition straight from OnePlus

Well, if you use any kernels or Magisk modules geared at specific devices (such as this one) you might run into some problems due to the device's fingerprint. Nothing potentially bricking or the like. Kernels and modules won't flash/install. They'll simply stop at the device validation and exit. With modules, the good thing is a lot of them aren't device-specific (with the exception of some geared at Samsung or OP devices, for example), and even if you run into problems with those, they're easily removed via recovery. Kernels, on the other hand, are a different beast. Any issue with those requires flashing the original boot.img (which will remove root, btw).
The only major issue I ran into with this mod, on my 7T, was with updating the ROM (via Oxygen Updater, anyway) and the kernel (for example, EX Kernel, which balks when it sees the device fingerprint, and cancels the flashing process). There might be ways to bypass these restrictions, but I wasn't able to find any, so I ended up having to revert the fingerprint changes to flash those, then re-do the fingerprints and Dialer setup again. This was on OOS 10, by the way. So with 9 Pro and OOS 11, the conditions might differ. YMMV.

[Q] Custom ROMs with Credo Mobile?

I looked and could not find a good answer to this. I am the proud new owner of a Galaxy Epic 4G Touch through Credo Mobile (the progressive Sprint reseller). I would like to install a custom ROM (CM9), but before I do, I need to know:
1) Will I have a problem activating my phone on Credo (I assume that most ROMs assume you're with Sprint proper)?
2) Once I have managed to activate it, will there be features -- calling, SMS, MMS, etc. -- that won't work?
3) Will I have a problem activating Google Voice (haven't tried on stock yet, but I have a sense of how it should go)?
4) Is there anything else I should know about the Credo / Custom ROM combination that I don't have the good sense to ask here (as a longtime CM user, I've got the basic principles of ROM-flashing down)?
Thanks all, ahead of time, for your answers!
(Sorry to even do this, but ...)
*bump*
Flashing roms do not affect the modem(which is where your service programming is stored), unless you flash a new modem of course.
I an on boost and i never have problems with any ROM, roms only affect the system partition. The modem is completely different.
If you flash a new modem, you may need to do a profile update to keep your 3g profile up to date.
I haven't heard of that so idk if a profile update will work (only with Sprint service and plans can you do an ota profile update). I am not on Sprint so i have to manually update my data profile through qpst service programming.

1. I had no problems rooting and running Blazer & Paranoid Android ROMs as if it was a Sprint phone.
2. I have a weird issue where when I get voicemails they send me an SMS, or txt (I didn't know there was a difference...), and a number to dial to choose between the 2. Then after a few minutes I sometimes get the voicemail in the Voicemail app as well. As far as MMS, I don't use them, I use email for sending pictures and videos, but if you needed that, there are instructions for changing your MMSC URL. It didn't work for me, but I don't use them anyways so I didn't bother struggling with it. Also I learned that for CM based ROMs, the ##3282## is #*#*3282*#*# or *#*#3282#*#* one or the other I don't remember.

There's the problem - you're on an MVNO.
1) Go to phone and enter ##DATA# (##3282#)
2) Go to Edit and enter MSL
3) Go to Others and then MMSC URL
4) Change from mms.sprintpcs.com to mms.plspictures.com
This should restore MMS.

Nope! A no go with custom ROMs.
ATT Note 8.0 has locked boot loader and will brick if you install an unsigned ROM.
This is very disappointing... So I'm stuck?

IMO the samsung ROM is good. Just a wee behind. One thing you have on your side is rooting.
Once rooted, you can use framework mods to enhance the features.
I tested Civato's ROM and Kernel. Found it good but lacks supporting 64GB SD cards with Exfat.
Had way too many issues with Fat32 to call it worth while. Speed was good, but I realized after letting myself get use to the OEM ROM, there was not much difference.
If anything I recommend getting Solid Explorer Pro and Titanium Backup Pro..., they are worth their price on Google.
I removed all the apps that I can get on Google Play most of them are Google apps, but there is a few that you can obtain.
Once I removed all the Google apps... kept play store, I installed what I wanted. Don't bother with Google Music Player, it will run even when you reboot.
I kept Samsung Keyboard, and found it better than SwiftKey and Swipe Keyboard. As it has quite a bit of features you would not expect in a stock keyboard.
Setup my voice and language to be Ivona UK Welsh English, it is the best sounding of the English language. Google is setup to be the voice recognition.
My Samsung voice will be Ivona, and any Google voice in Google Now will be Google.
I setup a number of things with the framework mods, so it will take some time booting to completely load HD Widgets, if you choose to go that route.
Once ATT releases 4.4.3 in April, I may hold off until Xposed Framework gets a major overhall for 4.4.x.
I recommend the non framework version of Ghost Hide Root, with plugin. There is a framework version, but it does not work well with Samsung ROM.
Startup manager also is a good framework app, but there is a paid app that goes even further... I kept the Xposed app because it was smaller.
Don't bother with Power / battery apps... they tend to hog memory, and don't do much better than having your tablet do power saving mode when browsing or reading.
I keep WIFI and Power save mode on all the time. Yet to find a real issue with speed. Able to watch streamed movies and Miracast without hicups.
Oh by the way... I dropped Greenify as well.. seems to take up a lot of memory. I just stop some apps that allow not to be started during boot. Be careful, as some are part of the OS. I stopped All email apps, this way when I am wanting email I just open them. Also you can manually sync if you chose to. Though it can be annoying if you open mail for the first part of the day and find 40 emails waiting. On vibrate or notification sound it can be a bit annoying.

S7 active update

Anyone else get the update??

It's installing now. Any idea what is new/updated in this?
got the update biggest change was wifi calling not sure what else
Just got mine used and updated it today. Saw the wifi calling but didn't read the rest, I did notice mine was on the May security update and now it's on the July update so could be that.
They also removed all traces of the Oculus software that was originally on our devices. So no chance of getting VR support for these devices in the future then
wifi calling now available (eg wifi-only calling, BUT no wifi-only messaging so thats kinda stupid...)
activity zone 'compass mode' with 'map mode' (which never worked, only said 'google services is updating' removed
advanced messaging (separate balloon per text/attachment, and 'xxx is typing' is new)
Great news! The recent update 8/11/2016 fixed the dpi error we were getting. I was able to successfully change my dpi using the display scaling app. View attachment 3839483

I checked on the official site (which just recently added the phone on the site, as I've been checking often), and they don't have any info on updates or anything posted yet.
So far I noticed: WiFi Calling and Messaging, Message Scheduling (Don't think I noticed this before), Security Update, Removal of Oculus (the setup for the full Oculus Software), Advanced Messaging for AT&T customers, and Text Counter.
If we see anything else, I'll add to this, or we can hope for release notes/ change log
Anyway i can update this without att sim? Im using cricket
Should be able to
I have the s7 active and the battery life is OK not great but ok and the update installed WiFi calling and text messaging works on WiFi
The only times I've ever had good battery life on any Android device were and continue to be from custom roms and kernels. No stock rom including stock nexus roms give me good battery life. That being said, my used S7A is actually not too bad for everything stock without root and it had better with such a big battery.

That is likely due to compression in the SMS client you're using. I don't know what AT&T's limitations are on file size for MMS, but I do know third-party SMS apps allow for tweaking of that. I use Textra currently, and can set a max upload/send size in the options. I know other SMS apps have similar functionality, but I doubt the stock one does.

T-Mobile Visual Voicemail in Google Phone App?

Had anybody successfully gotten the T-Mobile visual voicemail app to work on their G7? I had it working on my pixel and Essential phone without a paid monthly subscription.
I uninstalled the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app and deleted all data from the Google Phone app but still no tab for the Visual Voicemail app.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
You mean you're trying to get the visual voicemail to show up in the stock phone app without having to use the one from the play store?

Just download the T-mobile visual voicemail from the play store? You don't need a subscription.
Actually you get a free 1 month trial and after it's $4 month. In my Pixel 2XL there were no charges but all it was the ability to listen to your voicemail without dialing the voicemail
I too could not get it to work in the Google Phone app. However, after installing the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app, visual voicemail decided to show up inside the LG phone app after a delay (of hours or maybe days). That had me hopeful that it might eventually show up in the Google Phone app, but it never did despite me trying various things like installing/uninstalling T-Mobile Visual voicemail, clearing cache, enabling/disabling visual voicemail, disabling the LG phone app package, etc.

You're talking about voicemail to text, that requires a subscription. Visual voicemail does not require a subscription, you can listen to all your voicemail within the app for free.

Actually on the Google Pixel Visual Voicemail just being able to listen to your messages and deleting without having to dial the voicemail
Same Issue
I'm having the same problem - came from a Nexus 5x on T-Mobile where the stock Google phone app had a voicemail tab. After installing the Google Phone app, there's no voicemail tab on the LG G7. Very frustrated.
Hey, I work for T-Mobile as a technician (nothing special, for now).
The visual voicemail app is for the free visual voicemail service from T-Mobile. It lets you listen to voicemails from a GUI instead of a calling interface. The premium feature is "voicemail to text".
If you've reinstalled the app, cleared your own cache, etc, then call customer care and let them troubleshoot. You could be missing an account feature or two required for the setup.
For phones that have OEM Visual Voicemail (iPhones, any android with a "voicemail" tab), the app is good for setup, but otherwise is not needed. As long as the account features are good and your phone is in no position to have any bugs around interaction with carrier features, then it should work without a fuss.

We can't take logs or reports of any kind, but the information we need is brutally specific.

I was poking around a bit yesterday and found that Android disables the VVM tab in the phone if an installed package matches a string in: KEY_CARRIER_VVM_PACKAGE_NAME_STRING. A bit more detective work on my G7 (using Activity Launcher, under com.android.voicemailomtp) shows a grayed-out setting for Visual Voicemail with a note "Carrier VVM App is installed." I don't currently have the T-Mobile app installed, so I'm wondering what it's checking for and if I can override that to get the VVM tab to work in the stock Android Dialer app.
Any advanced users able to walk me through that?
I'm in the same boat. Can anyone help?

In even the stock roms, there are CSC config files for each carrier, with profiles for which packages and settings to install.
I'm not sure if you can flash an edited CSC without unlocking the bootloader, etc.
With root you can edit them quite easily.
But I understand it's a lot harder (or impossible) to root the US qualcom variants. But I have Exynos so I never looked into that.

Snaps are rooting nightmares. Stock can run very well once optimized. I used to blame AT&T (wrong) for the bloatware but the majority of bloatware on my N10+'s are from Samsung.
Thanks Sammy...
I have a AT&T N975U (Pie) and a an unlocked N975U1 (10).
Here's all the AT&T bloatware... that's it.

Other than the above the debloat lists are nearly identical. In fact I used the exported PD file from the older AT&T N10+ to import to the new one.
Had to add a few new ones for the unlocked variant too. It was a wash.
So much for that hope
Lol, I missed these...
Opps, nonetheless there's plenty of bloatware on the unlocked version. I have no intention of flashing the AT&T firmware to the unlock Pie version. Disabled this bloatware doesn't impact it's operation. Simple not worth the trouble it could cause.
Yeah. I wouldn't say ALL of the ticked items in those screenshots are bloatware.
But certainly brings up a point I didn't think of.
OP could look into the de-bloating tools that run through ADB, as opposed to flashing different ROMs.

That's a more conservative approach and the worst that could happen be a factory reset.
The problem with adb edits are you can't do them on the fly. I'm not sure if any of the package disablers run on 12... I'm not crossing that bridge! If so they allow you better control and are very useful for all types of troubleshooting. Without PD my N10+'s be a snail crawling mess.
Samsung should have included one in settings...

Yeah, but you only need to remove the bloatware once (at least per firmware release).
djphookaHave a look at the SamFW FRP tool. It's an automated MTP/ADB tool that can debloat to some extent. I haven't tried the "disable knox" feature though. Not 100% sure what it does.
You could also use it to switch to another CSC if yours is a Multi CSC one.

Samsung's have always been the Swiss army knife of UI's. Many of these bloatware lists strip it to nothing though.
If I disabled more than about 80-100 of the 365 or so of the apks that I could disable on the N10+/10 it be a drooling tard. Net gains be negligible.
Some of my disabled apps are occasionally needed. Certain apps like Malwarebytes, Playstore, etc I like to keep on ice. A package disabler gives you more options and tools on a stock Android. Uses almost no resources.

This is true, the level of control is important.
I ran the debloat tool I mentioned earlier, But as I run BeyondRom, it only found one package to remove.

What many don't understand is what's right for one user may be hell for another. Tracking down a needed dependency is many times difficult to do. The names can be deceiving.
It may take minutes, hours, days or months until you realized something isn't right. If it's months later, is it malware, a 3rd party app, corruption or some change you made and forgot about long ago?
A factory reset will fix it but if the root cause isn't found you're likely to repeat the mistake.
