I was just curious as to how many people are experiencing this same problem. It happens on occasion and randomly rooted or not. I was just wondering how many of you out there are having the same issue? Only on the Evo? How often? How consistent? And if you have any fixes or ideas on what may be causing this? Its very frustrating. I have read on the Android site where this is a know issue but they didn't seem too worried about it. Any help or advice would be much obliged. Thanks in advance!
Happened to me once....bad instance too. Talking to a girl and it sent to my brother...well that didnt end well.
never happened to me
EDIT: If I'm not mistaken that bug has been fixed in 2.3.1 or 2.3.2...now just to wait for them to get the update to us.

You are correct. They closed the bug report and announced that the fix was being released two days ago. The post announcing the release also has links to the relevant patches. The announcement is here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9392#c1620
Ive had this exact same problem a few times, and the first time i had an experience similar to Locoboi187's story..

Is this a firmware update or some other kind of update? This is annoying as all hell.
It used to happen to me a lot. I always delete all my messages after I write one just to avoid any issues.

It is an update by Google...we just have to wait for HTC to sense-ify it and release it to us. Or you can try a gingerbread rom.
You could try using handcent sms instead of the stock messaging app. That is suppose to also fix the problem.

Handcent almost got me shot by my girlfriend lol... sent a FB convo to a homie, while copying and pasting his name was on the thread the whole time. Sent the message and come to find out that the ENTIRE FB convo sent to my girl instead of my homie... Needless to say handcent sms has been REMOVED lol.
No rush but was curious if any developer's were getting close to fix with the pic download mms for the 2.3.4 roms ?
Its getting close with nightly 72...hopefully in the next nightly.

simple answer is that you'll see a bunch of posts when it's fixed, it's being actively worked on but it's not a simple fix
In very much layman's terms, can anyone explain how something like this gets broken? Why does it work in one version and then not in the next? Thanks!
Different phones use different settings and different servers. Different networks use totally different ways of handling messages.

that, and that code gets re-written, updated, etc.
something gets updated or fixed, and some other thing could break because of it... what I do know is that CM is a community project, with amazing devs, and they are dealing with cutting edge software. we gotta remember that 2.3.4 is only (officially) on two phones right now, the Nexus One and Nexus S, both Google phones.
Someone posted a fix on the nightlies thread: MMS Fix Here
I have tried a few Jelly Bean ROMs and have yet to find one that fixes my issue. I am looking for an updated Google Now app that correctly adds punctuation into text messages when you compose one through it. When I say "Send text to (contact) message how are you question mark" I get the message, but how is not capitalized and there is no question mark. There is no punctuation at all. The text body doesn't say "question mark" either. I know this was a GSM issue that Google fixed. How can we get this fix?

Its not a network issue and nothing GSM specific would fix it.
Where do you see that GSM has this fixed?
My Nexus 7 doesn't even work with that.
Clearly Google Now needs an update but I've seen no fix for GSM users, so if you would be so kind, point the way

Wow, I did not know that it didn't work on the 7. I will try to find an actual link for proof, but I called Google about it, and they told me to check the app for an update, because they fixed the issue. Its only the GSM cause Google doesn't sell CDMA. I know it isn't network related, but I thought it may have been 'Official Google Support OTA' related (I made that phrase up, haha).
Let me see if I can get an actual link.

I tried the Xoom version too, which is likely newer. Same result
Now I believe it does use punctuation in searches.

I know that it definitely adds punctuation in when you do a search. I have always been able to get it to do that. This is actually proving to be really beneficial! I thought this was a fixed issue and couldn't understand why the ROMs didn't put it in. Does anyone have a was of testing a Galaxy Nexus straight from Google?

I am curious myself.
Okay, so I found the link I was talking about. I was wrong. The link was talking about the voice commands app for Builds like Gingerbread. I can't believe the OS has been out this long and it still has this issue! But I wonder why Google was so quick to tell me that I just needed to update my phone... They really made it sound like there was a fix for this problem.
So I guess this is a universal issue?

As far as I know. I wasn't aware of it until you posted. Its definitely a glaring error on their part. It recognizes the punctuation, but when it converts to text, it omits it before it ever is sent out.
GSM Owners please chime in!
So do we know if this is an issue on ALL Galaxy Nexus devices?
Bump

So, now that Verizon has put out a leak/test Jelly Bean OTA, are we seeing a fix to this issue? I'm running Bugless Beast and don't want to do a full wipe to find out that nothing has changed...
I stopped by the other S4 forum (i9500/i9505) and noticed users reporting a new firmware update. Some mentioned faster transitions and camera updates as well as some other things.
Has anyone got a Ota of this? Or would we (T mobile) not get it?
Also wondering... if your rooted, would you even get a notification about it?
Thnx

The firmware of the international version is not the same as firmware released by carriers. Carriers add a lot of stuff to their firmware and they do their own testing on them. It may take months for a carrier to release an update after the international version got it.
Since this is a new phone, I am sure T-Mobile will eventually release an update (most likely several updates). Just be patient.

I found a website that has manual firmware updates for the different variations, but unfortunately I didn't save it. It's out there though, just Google it and I'm sure you'll run across it like I did, sorry couldn't be more assistance, if I find it again I'll post the link.
Edit: Okay I found it quicker than I thought I would, lol. Here's the link, hope it helps:

Thanks for the clarification and info guys.
Definitely patient.. I dont have many issues w my s4 except home key timing, so I was hoping for fix.
Maybe some one can take a look at new firmware and see if there is any info within that could benefit our (tmo) devices?
I would do it but im not as proficient and knowledgable as some of our other members.

I have the i9500 and got the update a few days ago. The description from the update manager was "improved stability" which means they are ironing out the kinks. Another thing that is going to be updated and will surely be on your variant is locked kernels. This is a kernel level that blocks superuser from even executing code. Workarounds will have to be found/kernels compiled.

if you're referring to the home button lag, then just disable s voice like everybody else did, even back in the days of the S3. go into the s voice app and hit the settings button on lower left of your phone, then tap settings, then un-check the 2nd option "open via the home key".
as far as updates, t-mo is usually the 1st or 2nd carrier to get it in the US, but nothing yet. i'm hoping they'd fix the camera shutter lag that i love from the old s3. sigh...
Ive found so many stock MMS apks on here, but none of them seem to have the Quick Reply popup. Or they have the quick reply popup but no message bubbles & those ugly in message contact photos on every line. Could someone link to one for the Tmobile S3. I really want to stay on stock messaging.

You are describing TW MMS with the bubbles and AOSP MMS with the quick reply. You cannot, to my knowledge, get what you want without using an app from the play store. Like Go SMS/Handcent/chompSMS/etc.
I always hated the contact photo thing, too. Just in case I forget how to read, right? I can still look at the picture and know who I'm texting. Oh wait, no I can't. Because I'm not taking pictures of everyone in my contact list. Stupid idea. Even worse, you can't disable it. Unclear what the devs were thinking, if at all.
I hate using anything messaging from the play store because they all drain battery. Isn't there a themed one with quick reply? I hate the contact picture on every line. They're just ugly grey boxes. But I need quick reply. And I don't want to use a battery sucking app to text from the play store
There has to be a themed one somewhere

There may be a TW MMS with quick reply, but I haven't seen one. If we did have one, though, it would be buried in the themes and apps section.
I was looking in the themes and apps section. Just wondered if there was one that could be pulled from a custom Rom.
Does anyone know of one from a rom that can be pulled? So far I have found one that gets rid of the stupid contact pictures on every line, but its all black and hard to read. And has no message bubbles. Could it be modified?

Could anyone port this MMS over? It looks like its for the Verizon model. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998769 It has working quick reply and bubbles.
Any suggestions? Or does anyone know of one that can be pulled from a Rom?

You don't have to port it. Just pull it and place it in system. Make sure permissions are correct.

Maybe, maybe not. There may have been changes made by the carriers, and they may have been initially written differently for each carrier.
Can't hurt to try though. After copying it over (backup original first), if it doesn't work at first, in Settings clear data for the app, then reboot recovery and wipe dalvik.
If it still doesn't work, it may not be completely compatible...

It didnt work. Does anyone know of one from a rom they can pull and post? I hate the contact photos on every line, but I need quick reply. I have found a few, but they force close when I get an MMS. You'd think with all the amazing devs that are here, this issue would be resolved.

The issue is resolved. You just don't want to accept the answer. Find one on the store you like and use it. The battery drain will not be noticeable. If it is, the app is poorly written, find another one.
