Question Jerky Scrolling - OnePlus 9 Pro

Any one noticing jerky and lagy scrolling on 9pro in youtube app?? I own a op7t it doesn't seem to lag in any where through out the UI and apps, but weirdly scrolling in 9 pro seems jerky and choppy in youtube.

Why use the official youtbe app, when you can have YouTube Vanced?
I don't experience any lag with yt vanced

yep. i believe its the same issue this thread is talking about. I hate it so much and if its hardware related and/or not fixable, I will be extremely pissed to spend 1k$ USD and not even want to use the phone.

Youtube Update Version 2.4.4: HD playback now available on capable phones.

Latest youtube app can now play HD on our phones, no more need to use Dolphin for HD on youtube.
Videos play smoothly, though I have had a problem with HD needing to buffer a lot even when I am getting 20 Mbps down.
On the bright side HD content looks amazing on the Nitro's screen.
I was Beginning to think it was just my phone acting up on YouTube. The audio was always fine, but the video never was. I hope this update fixes that.

Well I updated YouTube and rebooted the phone. Still glitchy video. Been that way the whole time I've owned the phone. Wtf

Downloaded the latest one (fresh install), and I agree with both you Kindawack as well as allstar. Yes, the HD videos look magnificent (just saw the avengers trailer n by God it's gorgeous n super sharp), and yes, youtube can run HD videos BETTER now. The reason I say better and that I agree with allstar is because I still see random stuttering in video play. That is wat allstar meant by glitchy. What happens is that the video framerates fall behind the audio playback and eventually 'jumps/speeds up' to catch up to the audio.
Now with the latest youtube app, the glitch is actually at a minimum and happens randomly. Throughout the trailer, it only glitched on me around 4-5 times and I almost barely noticed them. So I agree this version addresses the glitches. Now the rest of the stuttering falls on the phone itself and properly allocating resources to youtube.
EDIT: Nope, forget it, glitch is still there, in full affect. Just saw another HD video, the new Gorillaz video, DoYaThing, and you can tell from 2D's movement that it's there. He will slightly slow down as he moves, and then sprints back to frame.
Oh he meant dropped frames, not that surprising I got them on 480P as well.
And on top of none-smooth playback it rebuffers even on wifi 40mbps connection...I think Google optimizes it's software only for it's flagship phones (Nexus), until it gets HD display we shall not see any improvements on Nitro....My theory

The Galaxy Nexus does have an HD screen.
Hmmm...then I guess it's due to no optimization from LG side? Perhaps the lag we experiencing in the UI is related?
why don't you guys just use opera and flash 11? I use it all the time and get no lag and it works great and fast. Also opera or maxathon are the smoothest browsers for non ics phones right now. There is virtually no lag while scrolling with these 2 browsers.

Because using a browser for youtube is very unwieldy and awkward.

i dont get any rebuffering issues though. runs smoothly on both wifi or 4G/LTE. Other than drop frames, everything else seems fine.

Nexus 5X Lag

Using snapchat and even just the regular camera, I am experiencing a lot of lag when the camera is first loading up.
snapchat is really slow.
instagram is slow as well/
anyone else seeing the same problem?
The camera and instagram apps don't lag for me. But Snapchat definitely does -- it's pretty bad. But that is absolutely the only app that I have experience any kind of lag with.
Snapchat lags pretty bad and gsm battery stats. IG is not laggy at all for me
I'm also experiencing lag after launching regular camera app. It takes a few seconds for the app to settle down and be able to focus/take pictures.
I'm also experiencing lag if you take multiple HDR+ photos in a roll....
I hope Google could optimize the app more.
The Google Play Newsstand app gets very laggy for me if I view a few feeds in a row.
I get most of my lag in Chrome when viewing a page with lots of images. Sometimes the phone lags when I unlock it and tries to switch apps. Memory leak issue like Lollipop?
Try signing up for snapchat beta, when I first got my 5X the lag in snapchat was unbearable, each of the 3 snapchat updates since first using the 5X have greatly improved the usability of the app. Still lags on camera startup and while taking pictures, but the rest of the app has gotten a lot better of the past few days.
Make sure you are running the latest software build, MDB08I. I don't use Snapchat but it definitely helped smooth out the camera app
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Snapchat is an incompatibility with marshmallow. I had it with my nexus 6 as well
I have not noticed egregious lags, but frame drops are aplenty. Google's animation team did a wonderful job to hide the most irritating aspects of animations, but anyone who is semi-sensitive to dropped frames can see frames dropping left and right.
Stock camera definitely lags more often than not for me. I do have Camera FV-5 so I might give that a try more and see if it's more reliable.

Snapchat lag is horrible, basically can't use it
I'll have to try out Snapchat Beta and see if it fixes it otherwise, this really blows.
If you use Casper instead of the official Snapchat app, you'll see significantly less lag. I still get some bad freezes even with SC uninstalled, though
I've noticed some lag here and there, but nothing worse than I was seeing on my Nexus 5 previously. I'd like to see if disabling the encryption has any positive impact on these kinds of behaviors. Presently I don't have a reliable way to make the N5X start lagging but if anyone else does, maybe we can begin working around it.

I didn't know about Casper, thanks!!!
I didn't noticed any lag on mine..
The Lag is real
This phone acts so slow compared to the rooted and flashed Nexus 5 I had, its laggy between switching apps, browsing, FB and even when simply going to the home screen from whatever I was doing. I've tried downgrading the animation scales in Dev Settings and still. Not sure ifi will need to return phone or root and flash.....
Been seeing quite snappy performance all around, quite similar to my old z2. The camera definitely has a little stutter as it is first opened though. I'd like to blame some of the stutters and weirdness I am currently experiencing to the state of apps on marshmallow. By weirdness, I mainly just get some bizarre behavior from the hangouts app.
Performance is quick and snappy just like my N5.
Mine is laggy like a dog in the stock camera app while loading/changing from portrait to landscape/taking the photo.
I've had years old androids run faster than that. I hope there is a fix soon.

Choppy Scrolling in most Apps (no fix?)

Hi,
I have choppy scrolling in the App Store and Facebook and other more complex Apps.
I installed the latest Racer_M kernel and EXKM
I installed and run the latest EXKM-Settings from RedHawk and Bluejay_RACER with that kernel
Clearly, the choppy scrolling stays.
What can be done? The phone scrolls worse than Android 4 phones years ago.
Thanks, fe

Snapdragon S10/+/e owners please read: Possible bug with lag and stuttering

Guys, before you reply with any feedback, please read the following post and links in full. It would also help if you posted details of your device like the following, which is mine:

Summary: An intermittent stutter or lag (most notably during fullscreen 4K HDR playback, in my case) which only goes away when you activate certain screen recorder applications like Game Tools or AZ Screen Recorder.
Below is a list of posts that highlight this problem that I and a few others are experiencing. The common denominator here is the use of a screen recorder, which removes any present stutter or lag.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/help/lag-stutter-overall-choppy-t3914381
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/btwfbl/anyone_experiencing_stuttering_or_frame_drops_on/
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/b79cw3/is_snapdragon_really_that_much_worse_than_exynos/
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/b4nftn/snapdragon_s10_laggy_on_4k_youtube_playback/ (video evidence of problem)
The following two are from myself. My problem is that all 4K HDR content (could extend to other formats also but I need to do more testing) is stuttering or dropping frames. Screen recorder on and boom - it's smooth.
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/ch172q/snapdragon_owners_does_this_type_of_video_play/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/help/sm-g9750-video-playback-throttled-t3950757
The lag returns as soon as you deactivate screen recording, which suggests that this is either a bug with the CPU or GPU not being optimized or boosting its frequencies properly, leading to these stutters.
I've put Snapdragon in the title as these posts all appear to be from Snapdragon owners, whether it's the US or HK variant. I don't recall ever having this issue as a last generation S9 Exynos owner. If you are an S10/+/e Exynos owner and encountering this issue, you could still try using your phone normally, with a screen recorder active and then without, to see if there is any performance gain (as crazy as it sounds, it might actually make a difference).
Below is a test I'm using to demonstrate my problem. It involves installing apps (namely YouTube Vanced and either one of two screen recorders I've tested it with), so it's not the most convenient. If I find a better method, I will update the post accordingly.
You will need YouTube Vanced. I'm suggesting Vanced because the original YouTube app doesn't let you view at 4K resolution.
Firstly, open Vanced and tap the account icon in the upper right. Go to settings, Vanced settings, Video settings and then toggle Resolution Checks to ON. Refresh and restart the app.
Now open Game Launcher, tap the three dots in the upper right > Add apps and add YouTube Vanced to the list. We're doing this for the screen recording function which I'll mention later.
Note: if you don't have Game Launcher or Game Tools, you can try AZ Screen Recorder as an alternative. Nice Shot does not work.
Once that's done, here's a 4K 60fps clip for you to try. It should be easier to perceive any hiccups with the higher frame rate. Please set the resolution to 2160p (tap the three dots in the upper right) and watch in fullscreen / landscape orientation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXb3EKWsInQ
Panning shots work best. For reference, see points 0:19, 0:46, 1:48, 2:14, 2:42, 3:04, 4:11 and 4:41 in the video. Does it look like it's stuttering or dropping frames intermittently?.
Now, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to show the navigation bar (you need the navigation bar enabled to use the recording function) and tap on Game Tools, which is the leftmost button. Tap Record.
While the screen is recording, are the stutters now gone? To my eyes, the video plays back perfectly while the recorder is active.

We're still in the "Guides, News, & Discussion" forum, right? And technically this could even be a guide since I posted a solution, no matter how useless it may be

[email protected] is where I experience constant stutter. You will need to override resolution checks in Vanced to watch at that resolution: Tap the account icon in the upper right. Go to settings, Vanced settings, Video settings and then toggle Resolution Checks to ON. Refresh and restart the app.
Don't forget to try it with the screen recorder on please, to compare if playback is smoother.
Just realized you're on Exynos, so the issue might not pertain to you, though there's a chance I might be wrong in that regard. Thanks for testing though - more feedback is always welcome :good:

Lizard brain saw the GB flag and assumed you were an Exynos owner - my mistake! So you debloated your phone huh? Is something like Nice Shot or AZ Screen Recorder an option?
Here's a link for anyone wanting to download and test locally:

or
http://www.mediafire.com/file/dzndenwhk6ddboc/COSTA_RICA_IN_4K_60fps_HDR_%28ULTRA_HD%29.mp4/file
You will also need a screen recorder of some sort though, that's the most important step. Here's a few:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hecorat.screenrecorder.free&hl=en_GB
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/nice-shot/
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/samsung-game-launcher/
update: Nice Shot doesn't work for this test.
Appreciate anyone else willing to try, of your own volition of course. Doing this purely to raise awareness on the issue and gather feedback.
I just tested this using the supplied download links for the actual video and AZ screen recorder.
In all honesty I couldn't see any difference between the video running with or without the screen recorder recording it. They both looked smooth. I was using the default video player to watch the downloaded video.

That looks like the Samsung video player, but no matter since the problem persists across other players too. MX Player in HW decoding seems to be the worst performing one for me.
Did you watch in landscape fullscreened? I keep forgetting to add that detail. If it was the same regardless, then I guess that removes the US Snapdragon from the equation. But thanks for taking the time to test, much appreciated :good: People probably think I'm bullshitting but once I find a concrete way to show what I'm experiencing, I will update this thread.
So far I've only had confirmation of this problem from two (yes, only two but it's still something!) other people, and they also happen to be owners of the HK S10+ variant like myself. If there are any other HK owners out there, I could really do with your feedback on this too!

Yes , I watched it in landscape mode, even compared the first few scenes where the camera pans etc with screen recorder on and off, couldn't tell the difference.
Maybe you could film the issue with a camera for us to see ?

Mx player with hardware decoding is no problem, smooth as butter. Snapdragon U1.
What does YouTube report with nerd stats turned on for the dropped frames line?
No offense but your premise is flawed at best. All you have done is made a subjective claim backed up by no legitimate measurable evidence..
Having people install screen recorders and play videos is not 'testing' anything..
Best of luck

That's been tried by someone already but the thing with these cross-comparisons is that they aren't conclusive enough for some people. For me it's crystal clear because I already know what to look for.
Here, this link was in the OP: https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/b4nftn/snapdragon_s10_laggy_on_4k_youtube_playback/
One on the left is HK S10+, Exynos S9+ on the right. Make sure it's in [email protected] so it's as clear as possible.
The most obvious thing is that the scrolling is laggy on the HK model, but if you look closely, the video is stuttering too (look at the zooming out shot at the beginning). Exynos is completely smooth.
Stuttering video is a big no-no for me, really should not be happening on a phone of this spec.

Okay fair enough my test isn't the most thought out, but if you have any better suggestions on how to demonstrate the problem, you're more than welcome to provide them.
Stats for nerds doesn't show dropped frames, so it's likely that any FPS monitoring software would be useless too.
No it's not a subjective claim because if you read through the post and links in full, you would see a number of people confirming the problem. Doesn't matter how few, it's still an issue that shouldn't be ignored.
And one of the links has evidence in the form of video comparison: https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/b4nftn/snapdragon_s10_laggy_on_4k_youtube_playback/ please watch it @ 1080p60 on something larger than a phone screen.
The one thing I should've probably clarified is that I'm on the HK S10+, but those links indicate that US variants have a similar issue too. If yours doesn't have it, then cool, you're good to go :good:

Not the scrolling specifically because that's related to the problem. For me the scrolling is laggy AND the video stutters. Are you sure the video is completely smooth? It might seem so but on mine there are frame drops present - even if it's very minor, there should be none at all.
It's best to compare with another capable device side-by-side with your own eyes, as no video recording will be able to demonstrate this clearly enough. There's also a chance that some people aren't sensitive enough to stutters and might not even be able to perceive them (I'm not saying you are, this could genuinely not be happening on your device).
And even if the video doesn't appear to be stuttering to you, shouldn't the laggy scrolling be enough cause for concern? A last gen phone is running smoother and that's not acceptable. Don't settle for mediocrity guys.
edit: before anyone questions the absence of screen recording in that video, the person who uploaded it has another post on reddit where he mentions it fixing the problem.

Watching it at 1440p on native YouTube app it seems the scrolling is smooth. But on Vanced @2140 not so smooth scrolling. Probably the Vanced app or cpu etc binning on the snapdragon.

I don't think it's the app or hardware because once I turn on the screen recorder, playback is perfect (landscape). I'm no expert on this but a logical guess means there's a frequency boost while the recorder is active, removing the stutters.
If I could find a less ****ty workaround that does the same, I would be okay with it, but there isn't

A2lite Android 10 windowed video overlay performance (very specific issue)

Hi, can anyone with android 10 (QDLMIXM) please try this?
1) Play a Youtube video in 720 or 1080p (I use the Vanced app but this isn't even youtube specific afaik, just very clear to see!)
2) NOT FULLSCREEN video (fullscreen seems ok)
3) Adjust the volume and observe video.
Does video playback stay smooth while volume overlay is on screen?
Mine is jerky as hell and I want to know if it's worth trying reset etc before i roll back to 9, which sounds a right pain.
I tried disabling HW GUI in overlay options and that makes things slow all the time, so worse.
This seems related to all the slowdown issues i'm having with 10, with most apps. It's awful!
Makes even typing difficult. Phone ruined basically. Same for everyone or just me?

Thank you. Right, seemsi've got something messed up with my phone then, might be worth a full reset unless anyone has better ideas what it could be please?
Shame because this is really only issue i've got with 10 (so far...). Thanks for trying that.
This is quite sad. I have the same issues on YouTube (both official and vanced), and severe lag on Reddit, Messenger and Discord, along with Gboard which has killed my typing experience. Nothing but pain on this phone recently.
