GNEX unlock + unfreeze

Hi guys,
I recently purchased an unlocked Galaxy Nexus in Hong Kong. For some reason I did a factory reset on the phone and the unlock was gone (the SIM card that was working before the reset now requires a network unlock code). And like a noob, I tried all sorts of random combinations. And then I read about how you only have 3 chances to enter the unlock code before your device is frozen and you'll need an "unfreeze code". Immediately I knew i was in deep "sh_t". Now I finally found a site that provides me with an unlock code without having me to specify the carrier to which the phone is locked to, which I don't know (but the prints and documentations on the package were all in french). The unlock code hasn't arrived yet but I read about how I only had 3 chance, and I'm damn sure I tried more than 3 times. I checked again and all the sites that can provide me with an "unfreeze code" requires me to know the carrier to which my device is locked to, which i have absolutely no idea. My question is can a factory reset, or any sort of reset, unfreeze the phone so I can use the unlock code that i've purchased?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Try booting into recovery. From there you can probably fix a bunch of stuff.
Perhaps there is hope.

What exactly should i do in recovery? From what i can see now recovery is just an icon in the middle of the screen. i feel so lost.

Maybe you can restore a factory image (google rom) using Galaxy Nexus Toolkit, that you can find in this forum.
What i´ll sugest... is using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit, root and flash CWM (recovery) in your phone, then... flash any ICS Rom and one the phone is booted in the rom, even without the simcard... install the ****Docomo App and do a sim unlock in the phone.
i´m just talking in theory... but i could work.

After getting an Unlock code from TMO..

after i input the unlock code (sim unlock) from tmo, can i do a full factory reset? in other words, will the phone still be unlocked after a full factory reset or do i do the reset first and then input the unlock code?

Yes, Once it is unlocked it is unlocked. You can factory reset, flash custom roms, odin back to stock. You will not loose the unlock.

Yeah your good dude like the other guy said once its unlocked the settings are saved deep inside the phones system so u can flash custom roms and all that

ok i have another question real quick.. do i need an active sim card to unlock the phone or not??

Downgrade back to Pie

I am on the official Android 10 firmware and would like to downgrade back to Pie. Is this possible without unlocking the bootloader? The T-Mobile unlock app apparently don't work on 10 yet so I need to get back to Pie to unlock then I can go back to 10.

Yes, I think you can. You can sideload an OTA image without unlocking the bootloader. Even though it says OTA, it is a full factory image. The files and directions are both available at that link. If possible, I would certainly do a full factory reset of your phone as soon as it booted however. You never want to back into an older version of Android without doing a full factory reset.

Ok, I just tried that and part way through installation it aborted. "E:Failed to verify package compatibility" along with some other errors...

To revert to pie you have to use the full image and the platform tools available over at Goog but for this you need to unlock the bootloader. If you want to stay on a locked bootloader you then lock it after you're up on stock pie again. Keep in mind you'll want to do the works before you move any data back to the phone and that unlocking the bootloader will wipe the phone so you'll need to back up everything before you unlock.There are specific instructions for all of that and the images and tools at https://developers.google.com/android/images
Don't be afraid of unlocking the bootloader, it can be unlocked and locked again at your whim over and over. Doesn't hurt anything other than you get a wipe in the process.

I cant unlock the boot loader because the phone is SIM locked to T-Mobile. This is the whole reason I want to go back to Pie so the unlock app will work. This sucks

You can get it sim unlocked by phone if you meet their unlock requirements, or at least you used to be able to do so, I did it that way there myself a few years ago. If that's not the case anymore then... yeah, you're in a pretty sucky spot.

I do meet their unlock requirements..They have a ticket open with engineering for over a week but I’ve found out from other means that the unlock app isn’t compatible with Android 10.
Do you mean there’s another way to SIM unlock then the app? If so please enlighten me.

"You can get it sim unlocked by phone..." You call them on the good old fashioned telephone and tell them you want to remove the sim lock. Customer service can do it without the app, to my knowledge this was possible as recently as the 6T; Tmo guys were calling up and getting it done in essentially the same scenario you're in.

Uninstalling Android R Preview

Hello everyone. I installed the developer preview for Android R and i'm over it. I wanna go back to stock and I tried sideloading the OTA image and I get this message
update package is older than the current build. Downgrade not allowed.
My bootloader is locked so I can't flash the image through fastboot. I need help.

May update released might want to try that one.

I tried but it didn't work.
I was on the phone with t-mobile to see if they could unlock my phone but we're having issues with the unlock app.
I miss the days of typing in a code and getting your phone unlocked.

As you have just learned, the developer previews are not the same as beta releases. With the beta releases, you can "quit" the beta program and have the old OS version reinstalled via an OTA update The preview releases have no such OTA reset ability. Therefore, you should not participate in the preview releases unless your phone is unlocked.
If the May release doesn't let you revert back, then I think the only option you will have is to wait until the beta is released. Join the beta and have it installed on your phone and then quit the beat and hope that the OTA update takes you back to stock Android 10. In theory I think it will.

you should use the flashall.bat script if you're installing the factory image. Though this will earase data. Just make sure you have USB debugging on
EDIT: I think you should still be able to unlock your bootloader
EDIT2: After reading a bit more I see that on carrier specific devices, OEM unlocking is greyed out until the phone is sim unlocked. But after you get the app working everything should work fine. Did you use another sim thats not from T Mobile?

I put a different sim on the phone and it worked but it's b/c I did the temporary unlock. After 30 days the phone will be locked again. The phone won't let me unlock the bootloader unless it's a permanent unlock. The problem is I'll have to wait 30 days for the phone to re-lock. I wish t-mobile could just give me a code...
Lucky for me this phone isn't my daily driver but I wanted to revert to stock android b/c I got an invite to test out the Ratio launcher by Blloc. It's incompatible with Android R.

Your best bet would be to just wait until you can permanently unlock it. I got mine from best buy and only recently did I bother with flashing roms on it.

I have a TMO device and had a temp unlock, and obviously it doesn't allow oem unlocking to be enabled. I DM'd TMOhelp on twitter and was able to get a permanent unlock there. They told me that I'd have to wait for my temp unlock to expire before I could perm unlock, but I didn't. If you have trouble with the app, just clear the storage and cache data for it. Once it is actually perm unlocked you'll immediately get a notification and be prompted to restart the phone. After that you should see oem unlocking enabled in dev options and be able to hit bootloader and unlock it.

Question OEM Unlocking

I have been trying to root my S22 but continually run into the problem of OEM Unlocking. Everyone says just about the first thing to do is to select OEM Unlocking on the Developers Options but it isn't there. I even following one set of directions to try to make it show up but it didn't work either. I can't seem to get to the rooting without the OEM Unlocking. Anyone have any ideas? It doesn't have to do when I purchased the device which is what one person suggested but didn't help.

If this is a Snapdragon device, unlocking the bootloader most likely isn't possible.
Try this;
Remove the SIM
Factory reset
Skip through the setup wizard, DO NOT connect to WiFi or insert the SIM
After initial setup finishes, enable developer options
Manually set time at least 1 week ahead from now
Wait a few minutes
Check to see if OEM Unlocking is available

Your are right. Snapdragon won't let you unlock bootloader. Tried your steps and of course it didn't work.
