Camera Configuration Problems - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Since update to Android 11 / UI 3.1 I am not able to set photo or video sizes. There is no such option in the configuration menu.
Mu phone is Note 10+ Exynos version
Any hint, please?

Those settings were removed much earlier. I don't recall exactly when, videos about this emerged on YouTube already in sep 2019...
You can only aspect ratio in camera app, but not resolution/quality. Resolution can be changed in Galery or other app afterwards only.

Many Thanks
You're probably wright. I was using a third party camera app, and only now I noticed that.

Visual Core switch missing

So before I updated to the February build I had the visual core switch in developer options. I think it said CAL HDR+ or something like that. After updating yesterday, I factory reset my phone, and then enabled developer options again...only this time the option to turn on the visual core is missing. Is it now just on by default with the February update?
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Yes, it's on by default...
The February update enables the visual core for 3rd party services. For example snapchat on android phones because there are so many devices and setups what snapchat does is uses the camera view finder to get the pictures and then captures what's on the screen to take the pictures or video. That's why iPhones always have better snapchat photos and videos.
Now since Google has released the visual core to 3rd parties. What snapchat can do no is actually take full advantage of the camera on our phones

Yeah but I just meant there used to be a switch for it in developer options. The switch is no longer there after the February update. Just making sure it was turned on officially and there was no need for the switch any more.

Has YouTube HDR Stopped Working for You? (Pixel 2 XL)

Hi,
YouTube HDR has just stopped working for me. I can still select the resolution + HDR for a compatible video, but the brightness no longer automatically jumps to maximum to cater for the larger dynamic range. It was working right up until yesterday, and doesn't seem to correspond with a YouTube update, either. It's like Android isn't detected the HDR source even though it's selected, and so HDR videos are flat and lifeless.
Has this happened to anybody else?

Using the no root youtube vanced app from here on XDA this isn't an issue if suggest migrating to it yourself just so you don't have ads if nothing else it and there is a black themed one if you're interested in slight battery savings

Press the 3 dots and when you press on resolution you should have a hdr option near the bottom of the list if it's a hdr video

That did the trick, thank you. I wonder why the official app just stops working.

I think it's important to note that although HDR may be selected (like in my case), it may not necessarily work. You'll know if it's worked for sure when the screen brightness automatically sets to maximum. Now, bright parts of the video such as lights will stand out more in contrast to the dark sections, adding overall realism to the picture. I personally think it's great, and can't wait to get an HDR OLED TV.

HDR10+ enabled = No option to use built in video editor.

Just a heads up; I just wanted to highlight this as some people might be confused as to why you can't edit certain videos you've recorded with you're Note 10. it turns out, at least for me, you won't have the edit icon available in the video file if you have HDR10+ enabled at time of recording.
Try it and report back. Setting is under "Advanced recording options"
Australian stock Note 10+ Exynos
Yep just tried and it does not work.
I tried also to go into the gallery, then hit the icon top right with a "+" to edit the video, but when hiting "manually" it says this kind of file is not supported.
Samsung had said that you could covert directly HDR+ to normal video directly on the Note, but i cannot find this option anywhere.
Tested on my AT&T Note10 Plus Snapdragon and I can edit the video on HDR+
Tested on N974F (Dutch stock Exynos) and i can also edit the video's i shot while HDR10+ was enabled.
For the converting back to normal standard: going to gallery and select a video that was shot with HDR10+ enabled. Press the 'share' icon and a little pop-up at the bottom of the screen will appear and start the conversion to normal standard.
Very weird that it only affects some people. I doubt it is a locale issue. I'm not rooted and running stock software
@william84
Could you edit prior to converting? Also, what video quality setting are you recording in?

Am recording in 16:9 UHD 3840x2160
Can edit prior to converting aswel as after converting.
You are aware that you have the edit option when you watch the video in the Samsung stock videoplayer? So in the gallery app itself it won't show the edit option (at least for me).
When i press 'play video' in the gallery app, the Samsung videoplayer app opens and when i pause the video i have the editor option available in the upper-right corner menu.
You can find the Samsung videoplayer i mentioned in the Galaxy Store named Samsung Video Library.

You don't need this video app.
The edition is proposed when indeed watching the video with the stock player. However the edition is limited to the size of the timeline, nothing like videos that are not HDR+.
I have no clue also how to convert them to normal video besides sharing, but it doesn't seem to save it to the gallery.
To me this software needs a fix, but HDR+ is still beta, on development.

You are correct.
The editor options are very limited compared to the options for non HDR10+.
I hope they can equalize the differences between the options in favor of filming with HDR10+ enabled.

I am sorry that I am not raising the latest topic, but have you found any options? Maybe for converters or editors? Still, I would like HDR+ or what then is the point? Maybe there is information that there will be an update? A little bit of info: I had several phone models (the latest Samsung) and I always immediately change the stock application for video, audio, and various editors. Recently, I prefer Movavi Clips, after I got their license for a year. I like it very much, except for a little expensive. But, frankly, I would not recommend it, it is better to buy a desktop version of https://www.movavi.com/videoeditor/ right away and get the maximum functionality. But it is to your taste.

UPDATE 2022.02.26_GCam 8.1
This 8.1 version of Gcam works very well out of the box (aux cameras, video. Night mode etc etc)
Arnova8G2: Gcam-8.1.101.build-V6.2.211013
Download Gcam-8.1.101.build-V6.2.211013 by Arnova8G2.
www.celsoazevedo.com
The app crashes only in video rallenty mode.
I changed the 7.4 version below with 8.1 above.
Hi guys, I tried a lot of gcams, finally I found one that works well with 99% of features.
https://1-dontsharethislink.celsoazevedo.com/file/filesc/NGCam_7.4.104-v2.0_eng.apk
I attach the config file by myself.
Only bug is video recording with aux cameras.
If someone found a better setting or a better combo (gcam+setting), please reply to this post
Does it make the camera better?
yes, really better. With the HDR+ Auto (non advanced), shots are also more quick than stock (that is really slow to be honest). The overall quality is very better, and night mode, potrait mode, astrography etc etc are a considerable plus. This are two shots made during this reply. IMG file is the Gcam, DCIM is Sony (1x cam, no adjustment, all auto).
the right one is with Gcam?

yes, but this is only an example. In outdoor or dark conditions there is a lot of difference.

Video works for me for all 3 cameras. I didn't install the config though, just went to settings -> Advanced -> Auxiliary cameras -> added 3 cameras and assigned appropriate samsung tree icons . After initial crash, it's working fine

Well! The aux not working in video in original post was because I had the video stabilization on. Talking about photos, have you seen any colour balance difference between the cameras?

Yes, and focus goes in and out...stock camera focussing is spot on, for now, using the stock
The focus is good for me, better than stock, expecially in LL condition. Try my config disabling video stab.
I'm seriously considering getting this phone. Can anybody post more samples from GCam?

Hello, are you able to shot in RAW mode? That is Raw+Jpg?
thanks!
Yes, you can shot in raw+jpeg
I upload the last config file:
-the video stab. Is disabled because video capture with aux freeze the app.
-every gcam 7 feature is working well
-colors are quite different switching cameras, I suppose there's a little settings to do well. But this difference is already present in the stock camera app.

You are right, it just saves the RAW files in a different folder (Picture\RAW), that's why I wasn't able to see them!
Do you know if it's possible to save them in the same folder of the JPGs?
No I don't know, I just haven't this kind of need yet.
A little bit offtopic because I did not try GCam yet, but my 10iii arrived yesterday and the pictures (same objects, auto-mode, sony app & opencamera) are im comparison to my 4 year old XZ1c smaller in resolution and size (1,4mb vs 5,8mb) and quality almost as bad as the xz1c. Highest resolution I can set is 12MP in the settings. Are there any settings I have overseen? Or do I have to send it back and buy the Zenfone 8 although I loved Xperia phones since years?

I bought this phone at launch. And I will never change with a zenphone 8. I'm very happy with this phone and every update Sony made has solved a problem. I love it. So to come back on topic try the gcam in this post with the last setting.

Thanks, I just tried your GCam with the latest xml. Might be the best app for 10iii, shutter is quicker than stock, white balance and colors as well, but still the results are awful for a phone from 2021 if you compare it to the xz1c-pictures attached. I don't get it why Sony builts really good cameras (I'm on Canon, but anyway..) and the ones in their phones are bad. After 11 years Xperia-phones I'll go for the Zenfone now

Question OnePlus Stock Camera App

Has anyone gotten the stock camera app from OOS to work on LineageOS?
I've used systemizer to install the app to /ststem/priv-app but upon launching the app it crashes after it has gathered permissions.
Using the shortcut to Pro mode opens the app long enough to show an image through the camera. But it crashes nonetheless.
Or does gcam work nearly as well as the fancy stock cam?

The stock camera performs good but the Gcam is better in all aspects, it enhances the phone's camera to improve the quality of the photos and videos. I use Gcam in my 9 Pro which gives much better photos compared to the stock camera.
Sorry, gcam is not better, especially when you want features that are missing in gcam, like high resolution photo

But the high-resolution option in the stock camera gives a very sharp image that is not natural and Gcam gives photos with natural colors so I prefer it.

It's not about what you preffer. Most important thing - gcam is unable to use full set of camera hardware capabilities. Thus, it's not a real replacement. I can be only considered as additional software, nice to use. In my case, for 360 photos for example. I want to have both - stock and gcam.
But I'm not surprised you can't run stock gcam on non stock rom, because it probably requires some closed source libs, which can't be embedded eaisly, or have license issues.
Also taking videos doesn't work either.

Still hangs when you set 60 fps, even viewfinder is black. With config loaded. Without config, I can't use all cams and video is always 30 fps.
60/120 fps should be supported. So, again - gcam is not stock camera replacement. I only use it for 360 photos, astro and better night mode
