I just bought a Mi 10T for the wife about a week ago. Immediately I realized there is a bad call echo on the caller's side. Be it a normal phone call or even a WhatsApp call.
Initially, I taught it was just a bad network but we have tried everything and it is not the network.
I have switched off Hey google, and the drive detection thingy but to no avail.
I have been doing some searches on google and seen many previous models of MI phones facing such issues with no proper definite solution.
The phone is 1 week old and it's under warranty. Is there a definite fix for this?
I have same problem too. Officially there is no solution.
i did a complete factory restore and now it seems to be fine with occasional echoing. Maybe you should try that
Hi, I don't have the echo on normal calls but have it on video conversation on Messenger for example. This is probably a bug on third party apps as Mi 10T is dual speaker phone - front and bottom speaker. I also had this bug on my previous Mi phone which was also a dual speaker one.
As for the normal calls if you don't find a solution ask for a replacement. Maybe a faulty unit.

Hello,
the sound quality is very bad. The strange thing is, the problem occurs only using the phone app. I am using the stock phone app.
Any idea? I need help. All other things are working but I can't use the phone to make calls. It sounds like distortion ... . Already the sound during ringing has the problem.
The problem only occurs with the internal front speaker. No problem if I use the rear loudspeaker or headphones.
Is there a wait to solve the problem?
Call Sample
Hello,
here is an call sample. I know the quality is not perfekt beacause of the notebook fan. I call another phone and after ringing the mailbox of the called person starts. Especially at the end were the mailbox voice occurs the problem is very clear. It is nearly impossible to understand what is said.
Is this the normal sound of the internal speaker (front)?

of course not.
Hello,
thanks for the answer. Found the following thread.

Strange thing I am also using this phone in Europe. I am quite sure the problem is not a hardware problem. Because if I use the phone with VoIP service app, the speaker just works ok.
I would try a clean flash of a custom rom, factory reset maybe (was it always bad?..)? I also had problems with the internal speaker, if I have set the volume higher than half, it made crackle sounds. But it was a hardware issue, (in skype, fring, viber also had this problem). I had to send it back to the usa, cause I live in europe and literally no one could fix it here because of the lack of hardware. I had to live without my phone for a month.. annoying thing, but now it's ok

First of the time after buying I didn't use the phone for calling. With Skype I will try again. Also the VOIP test. How did you manage the repair? With ATT or Samsung?
Its not only because of the time. Also because of the money for transport and repair.
Thanks for answering and help!
Like i said in the title, i cant hear the dial tone when making a call(unless on the speaker), if the person im calling answer the call, i cant hear him, if its me answering the call, the other person cant hear me neither. I tried to use the SMMI Test to see if it was a hardware problem, but when i use the code on the calculator nothing happens, also i tried safe mode to see if it was a software problem but the problem remains. It's the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML if it matters.
Well you can turn on the dial pad tone in the phone settings. but the problem with you not hearing them and them not hearing you, that's something else. I've had to send my phone back twice for an issue like that. they say they replace the Motherboard, but the issues is still there. on and off. maybe this thread can stay around to get some different views on the issue.

Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA-Developers mobile app
Disable ok Google from any screen option or uninstall Google update which is causing this problem then test.
After uninstall Google wipe cache partition then reboot.
Third Party App "SoundAbout" may be helpful

I had similar problem with my HTC one X , after I flashed some patch for sound enhancements. I searched on google then found a solution on reddit which suggested to use a third party app named "SoundAbout". It routes the speaker sound to earpiece. has many settings and thus may be useful. I could still use my old HTC one X with this and satisfied. This is not a permanent solution to the root cause but at least it is useful to some extent.
Hello my friend has a Samsung A3 2017 and he said that the speakers are not working.
He can receive calls but do not hear them incoming because Speakers have some bug. No water or phone dropped on ground / any physical problem.
I told him to try the dial code *#7353# to test the functionality.
He replied that the
1. Melody works fine, the music is played
3. Speakers doesnt work at all.
This is probably some software bug, he already resetted the device without success. Any similar problems?
Thanks in advance

I actually had the same problem in my a7 2017, just randomly the speaker stopped working. I tried factory resetting it with no success, then turned it off for a while and rebooted in secure mode. Then the speaker worked again. It happened again a couple days ago and I tried the whole secure mode again. It didn't work. Then I turned my phone off and waited a couple of minutes. Turns out that to fix the problem, you only have to turn the phone off for about 5-10 minutes and reboot. This fixes the problem, but I still don't know what causes it
Do a hard reset and restore your phone to its initial configuration.
Hard reset stepsMod Edit
In this way, any app interfering with your sound and speaker settings should be deleted.
Just had the same issue on the most recent stock 8 ROM. Turning it off for ~10min cleared the issue. Is the root cause already known by now?

Maybe headphone jack is damaged from water. Try a phone call with and without speakerphone.

Hi, sorry I missed it somehow back then and just noticed it... better late than never. The phone is actually being used w/o headphones (perhaps only by previous owner if at all). Fortunately the issue has never come back since then. When it was still there a phone call would only have one way audio while on speakerphone (Tx only) and switching to the earpiece would fix Rx.
So, I just got a SM-A520F with a similar issue - speakers simply emit loud a white noise instead of Ringtones, Notifications, Youtube, Music, etc. I tried the dial code *#7353# and was surprised to see that melody works fine.
Had no issues at first, flashed the official Lineage 17.1 - still everything a okay. I decided to try Magisk, and that's when the problem started. I went back to stock android, but the problem is still there.
Any ideas what could have gone wrong?
--Edit--
I just restarted the phone with earphone plugged in. This seems to work for now. I will see for how long this will work & report back later.
--Edit 2--
No further problems. I reinstalled Magisk, everything still seems to work. Booting the phone with earphones plugged indeed fixed the issue, hope this will may help someone in the future.
Nexus 5X, Stock 8.1.0 with security patch level 5 April 2018.
If I make or receive a call, the other party cannot hear me, my voice is severely muted and garbled. I've tested this by leaving messages on my home phone and all suffer from exactly this.
Now the microphone itself seems to be fine - WhatsApp voice messages are perfectly clear, I installed a voice recorder app to check and the recordings are good. Google voice searches also work fine.
I've done a factory reset. I've uninstalled updates to the Google Phone app. I've swapped SIMs. I've tried alternative dialers. I've turned on/off 2G /3G /4G. But my voice calls are always rubbish.
Anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on or suggestions as to what else to try?
Thanks!
Hi
I'm just visiting here with the same problem. I've been getting complaints about call quality from my end for a little while and it's driving me mad trying to be heard, often it starts off okay, then degrades rapidly after a few minutes, other times its from the start of the call. I've done the same as you, the mic tests fine in other apps, and sometimes it works okay. I did a complete factory reset which did seem to improve things but the problems returned, and no, I hadn't added any apps in between it working and going back to being terrible.
I've also tested calling my home answer phone and leaving a message to see what people are complaining about, and it is just constant drop outs. This happens over Wi-Fi calling, and over the network (EE network/UK), so it's not a reception problem. I've also used a plug in headphones with microphone and it's the same problem.
I really didn't want to buy another device at this time, but to me it's looking like a hardware problem.
Regards
Phil

Before I did the factory reset I had tried turning off noise reduction in the build.prop as recommended to try but it made no difference.
It sounds to listen too as though it's a faulty connection, and I'm thinking now this might be related to the reboot loops caused by connection problems, and this has the same cause, broken connections on the main chip. It's odd the sound is okay when recording sound or video, however that might simply be because the sound is being routed and processed elsewhere, and it's only when it's compressed for a call and routed via the Qualcomm modem that it's affected by a faulty connection. This would explain why sometimes for me it is okay, or starts of on a call okay then as the phone warms up the connection starts breaking.

Hi
I've now upgraded to a Pixel XL 2 as I needed to be able to be heard on calls and the 5X was out of warranty and LG didn't want to know. I really didn't want to upgrade quite so soon. The XL with the same SIM card on the same mobile network is all good and everyone can hear me, plus I have the benefit of VoLTE.
I believe the microphone problem is hardware related, most likely the same cause as the boot loop issues where the CPU or board has some broken solder connections. It sounds like a broken connection, and explains why it has progressively become worse. It's a pain as usually when I upgrade my phone gets handed over to another family member, but I can't do that with the broken 5X.

Hi there,
So i bought redmi note 5 global version which seems to be identical to note 5 pro. Problem is during skype calls and even phone calls the recipient can not hear me clearly most of the time. Sound becomes muffled and incomprehensible, person can hear me but can't make out what i am saying. It does not happen constantly, issue comes and goes. I am on 9.6.4 MIUI version.
Does anyone experience the same issue? Could it be firmware issue or charging pcb microphone issue. I don't feel like dealing with warranty since i have sensitive data on my phone, i spent ages setting everything up and it would probably take long time to get it back. I was thinking to replace microphone pcb myself since they can be purchased for 10 buckaroos and replacement it is easy and straightforward.
Does anyone have some insight into the problem or has dealt with it themselves.
Cheers
miui 10 is out
please upgrade and try
So i upgraded to MIUI 10 and issue persists, doing some reading it seems during voice call apps like skype top noise canceling mic goes bananas and messes up sound for recipient.
I feel changing bottom mic pcb won't do anything. There were posts about disabling noise canceling but for some reason those posts are taken down.
Does anyone know a fix other than throwing my phone against the wall. I need to use skype a lot, i've gotten used to my lil redmi, would be shame to buy smth else.

Have you tried this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...gisk-fix-bad-camcorder-audio-quality-t3828711
It fixes the static background noise in recorded videos, but it might work in skype too
I have the same issues like Dzessi.
Mic is an garbage, unusable. Allmost all the time is not working properly, expecially in games or apps (voice chat) is low, high, diatorcions, radio white sharping noise, echo. If someone can help me solve this I ll be so happ. thanks in advance
I also have the same problem. Some say that some of you talk nice we do not hear you. Does anyone know the way to overcome it?
