Long exposure error in third party camera app - Samsung Galaxy M51 Questions & Answers

I cannot find any option to enable RAW in native camera app , and after trying 10+ pro camera app from play store , I'm not able to make the shutter any higher than 0.5 seconds ! Native camera app has max exposure time of 10 seconds..
Can you please help me regarding this problem ? And please suggest any camera app that can support long exposure in RAW format.
(Even budget phones like realme 7 has 32sec exposure time in RAW mode :| )
Model no. SM-M515F/DSN

gcam and open camera has raw option but you can only see the thumbnail of the image you have to send it to a pc to get the full res aand 0.5 ss is just a bummer I hope somebody can change that

Yes RAW option is there with many cameras.. but I want RAW with LONG EXPOSURE... That is the thing I'm not finding in any camera app ☹ .. I dont know why the native app can go upto 10 sec and no other app can go beyond 0.5 sec... What's the issue ?

The issue is its probably software locked or something

It is not completely soft locked, still usable when set exposure time manually. CameraCharacteristics#SENSOR_INFO_EXPOSURE_TIME_RANGE reports 0.5 seconds at max so all camera apps use it as max value for compatibility. However I don't know any camera app allows completely manual exposure times. Some gcam mods have exposure options for astrophotography mode, you can use them with raw but most of them have no manual controls.

Thank you for the info.
Isn't it possible to overwrite #SENSOR_INFO_EXPOSURE_TIME_RANGE to 10sec which is default for the native camera app.
And why only the native app has the access to 10sec max exposure? This is a huge limitation in my opinion for a phone that costs rs.23000/-

They limit available exposure time for stability or promote their most expensive devices. In this case it is not stability because stock app has 10 seconds, #SENSOR_INFO_EXPOSURE_TIME_RANGE reports 0.5. I think stock app uses CaptureRequest#SENSOR_EXPOSURE_TIME directly without looking at #SENSOR_INFO_EXPOSURE_TIME_RANGE. Third party apps can do same thing too but they need to ignore #SENSOR_INFO_EXPOSURE_TIME_RANGE and set exposure time directly. They don't do that because it will crash if device doesn't support desired exposure time.
Maybe they can fix it with custom roms or you can send a bug report to samsung developer support but I don't think samsung will fix this if this is not a mistake.
You can try nikita's gcam with astro mode for long exposure raws.

Thanks again
I think I have to wait till they add raw support to the native camera app.
In the meantime I'll use gcam as you have suggested..
But this whole "limiting basic functionality " thing for samsung is very very disappointing...
Even Realme/Xiaomi has it in their budget phones ..☹

RAW Support and long exposures

Hi
Does anyone know if there is a way to save images as RAW in the Moto Z Play?
Also, the manual (pro) mode allows you to change the exposure duration but this seems to be maxed to 1/6 - any way to get to longer exposure times?
Thank you.
No idea about the RAW support but if you want to take long exposure shots there are a few camera apps on the Play Store which should do the trick (Camera FV-5 Lite for example) but I never tried any so you may have to try a few in order to find something you're happy with.

Cheers! I've got Camera FV-5 installed and it does present longer exposure times, but I cant tell the difference between them and the stock camera photos. For example, photos taken in stock camera at 1/6 look the same as FV5 at 5 second exp. I don't have my phone to hand but will post some examples later.

I'm not surprised if there's no differences between the 2 but I thought you could make 30 seconds exposure shots with Camera FV-5 (which would surely make a difference with the stock camera)
About RAW support, from what I've read the Z Play doesn't support it unfortunately. You'd need the TrueZoom mod to get RAW support, which is quite an expensive buy.

Edit: Tried to save RAW with Snap but although it gives me the option I was not able to find a RAW image on my card...
I use the Snap Camera app from Playstore. It's extremely versatile and gives you tons of options and it has RAW support with our Z Play.
It needs some time to try out all options and find out the best for the phone and it also costs a few bucks (although there is a free version too). But I think it's worth it. For example it's also the only app I've found which let's you tourn of the denoise filter which is sometimes very helpfull when making pictures of landscapes which lots of details.
The interface is a little annoying at first but you can turn off everything and build your own interface with the free customizable shortcut buttons (settings - advanced - on screen settings).
It has also a good support on XDA.
Thanks for this. It's odd, camera fv 5 says the phone does not support RAW. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What really bugs me though is the exposure times. I'll give it a try to see what sort of image I get with a 30 sec exposure now.

IMG image - Stock camera with everything auto and exposure at 1/6s. Looks like garbage.
DSC image - Camera FV 5, everything auto and exposure at 20s. Looks like dark garbage.
If im not mistaken, Camera2API supports raw format. Whenever Lenovo finally enables it (Nougat?) we should be able to export to raw format.

I found that long exposure shots have a very limited use :-\
True it's not something you'd use everyday, but it would've been good to have this work as it should. The only other thing I can think of is that they've nerfed it on purpose so the camera mod sells.

Raw does work if you enable camera 2 api or modify hal lib it works even in camera 1 mode
Sent from my NX503A using XDA Free mobile app

[REQUEST] enable long exposure mode please

I have been using this phone for a month. I am rooted with magisk and camera2 api is enabled. All the manual controls except the long exposure works fine but in case of shutter speed or long exposure i cannot find more than 1/8 sec in any of the third party app like proshot and camera fv-5. So i think this is the cause of my camera hardware not being able to do so :crying::crying:. But amazing developers like you guys are out there who are making great customization and mods for this phone, please anyone take an initiative for enabling this long shutter speed mode for at least 10 or 20 sec.

Actually when camera2 api was disabled i tested it and saw that all that it does is stack some images. That image is not what i call long exposure image. Any how can you share some long exposure shots taken by this phone? can you do light trails also? please share.

Camera Manual Mode?

Hi guys! Can anyone please tell me the shutter speed and ISO range available in whyred using open camera/ footej camera? I just want to ensure that the device has support for long exposure photography. Thanks in advance, screenshots are appreciated.
Yes. The phone supports the features you mentioned and I use them by downloading third party apps like Footej camera, Camera FV-5, open camera etc

I know it supports manual mode. But I need the range. For eg, the shutter speed range of Redmi Note 3 is 1/1000 to 1/2 seconds. Whereas, higher end phones can keep the shutter open for even 30 seconds. Can you please give me the range? :|

I am guessing you are using FV-5....
If so, I don't really think FV-5, or any other camera app in this case, can take photos with this device (and probably with most MIUI devices) surpassing the 'hard' max shutter time that Xiaomi imposed to the camera stack.
In fact, I've tried using 30 seconds exposures with fixed 100 ISO setting and the images were darker than using fixed 100 ISO and auto shutter.

Long exposure photography

Hi, I've tried many apps to make photos with long exposure time, from fv-5 to freedcam and hedgecam, but in every camera exposure time always stops at 2 seconds. I've read that it's a software problem because MIUI version of A2 lite camera can go up to 32 sec. Now, I have camera2 api enable and I doesnt affect nothing. Aniway I found a mod of nokia camera by @linuxct (Im currently on 91.9.1130.40) that allows to shot 4 seconds, unfortunately without RAW. Here are some photos:
Apk?
im tried camera fv-5 (paid) and it work to take long exposure shot >16s with camera2api enabled by magisk module,,
but~ the image quality is poor~ not like the other phone,,

Are you sure it's long exposure and not image stacking? Cause for me it seems It only stacks images. I tried to take a photo with the lite version and with nokia camera, settings are exp time:4 sec, ISO:400, for both cameras. The brighter One Is nokia

yup,
did the option for "force usage of legacy camera driver" is off? you can check it on
general setting > compatibility
it must on then your shutter speed option will not showing as scrolling, it will showing as manual input number. and it work on my a2 lite than scrolling mode.

Yes I have It on and the seconds instead of the scrolling, but doesn't make a real long exposure, maybe it's because Im on lite version(?)

Of course, as mentioned already; using Camera2 API / HAL3 and the MIUI Camera's Manual mode is the better option.
You can otherwise get it working in FreeDCam, albeit with Camera1 API:
Turn off / remove Camera2 API and reboot
Confirm Camera1 API is in use by using Camera2 Probe, ensuring "Hardware Support Level" = LEGACY
Launch FreeDCam and re-run FeatureDetector
Set your image settings as desired, and turn OFF Zero Shutter Lag
Use Mode Pic, JPEG output. Swipe up from the bottom, and set the shutter to desired value in seconds
(optional, but recommended) Set ISO to ISO_HJR to get >ISO3200 in low light
39 seconds @ ISO12744 is the highest/most I can get. From 40s on there's some sort of wrap or restart from 0.

Are you on A2 lite? Because I tried your method but always stops at a 0.4sec
Edit: playing with settings and now magically works, lol. However the fact that you must use api 1 otherwise it crashes it's annoying, because RAW is only usable with api2

The Problem with Note8Pro and the RAW Mode

Hey Folks,
i know the topic is discussed sometimes already, but the most commong solution: "just use Gcam" doesnt really work for me.
Well to my problem, as we all know the RN8P cant shoot raw using MIUI except with Gcam or Front Cam 3rd Party Apps.
I am mostly doin astrophotography with this Phone and in AP Raw Format is kinda Must for Post Processing. Now people gonna say: But Google Camera has Astrophotography Mode!!!
Ye ye i know it does, and it is "okay" when u think its fully done with 1 button press, but comparing the Results between Google Camera AP Mode and Fully Manual Mode Shots + stacking are drasticly and very extreme. I live in a very Light Polluted Area and for me the difference between Gcam and Manual Mode is Having a Milky Way Photo or having a photo with only 20 Stars on it. So thats why GCam isnt really a solution for me. So i switched to HAVOC OS CFW which is great because now i can Shoot in RAW in Full Manual Mode with ANX Camera and 3rd Party Apps. So far so good. The Thing is, i like the whole MIUI Experience with its UI and the way they handle the Apps and all its blinky blinky animation.s More Than Stock Android like on Havoc.
Now i saw the Begonia Mods here on XDA which activated some camera mods. Sadly not the RAW Mode. Is it possible to add something to the XML like: "supports_raw"true or something like that?
Or is it possible to deactive the 64MP Mode for 3rd Party apps so it only connects to the 16MP Sensor Data with Pixel Binning and we dont get the Camera Error the whole time? Or does anyone know a fully working Manual Camera with White Balance Support, Manual Focus, Manual Exposure Time and Manual ISO which does support RAW on our Phone when using MIUI 12? I mean its basicly just a software lockout, since the phone definatly supports RAW as we can see with CFW or Gcam.
I actually checked the camera 2 api probe and its not HAL3 Full, but in CFW it is HAL3 Full. Back when i had the Mi Max 2 (oxygen) i had to enable c2api manually in the build.prop. Did someone tried to activate HAL3 manually in the build.prop already to have it on FULL support?
I am open to any solutions you guys can think of or tried yourself. I dont mind rooting MIUI 12 or so, all i want is MIUI OS + Full Manual Camera with RAW no matter how and at which costs
And please as i said earlier: "Just use Google Camera" is no Option for me
Greetings and have a nice Day
snap camera hdr allows raw capture on note 8 pro with full iso and shutter speed control but limited focus and white balance option
select raw and tap on the iso value to enable manual control
for wb and focus tap and hold on the viewfinder
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marginz.snap
I have same problem and you are firs person who say same. Havoc os shoot 64 mp raw? or 16 mp like gcam?
