How do i revert back from Root to Stock - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

How can i go back to stock rom? Is it just downloaded the stockrom for my S9 from sammobile and unpacked it.
Do i have to use odin update the stock rom to the phone? Is TWRP then gone after that ?
I watched already some YT movies but that makes me confused. Some people say i only need to chose the AP md5 file in Odin and some people say that i have to choose BL, AP, CP and CSC.
Which one is the right way? I don't want to kill my phone
I wanna sell the phone and bring the phone back to stock.

you just want to unroot right ?

To get rid of TWRP works imo best with Odin. Root vanishes as well.
The different methods mentioned refer to the fact that there are single stock ROM files, as well as multiple part versions.
Using either one of them (if done properly) results in a "as bought" state.
I recommend to use multiple part versions sometimes they are accessible at Sammobile.com or similar.
Did you get that?
If not, best for mine was always using Samfirm_reborn tool.
Insert model, region and check "decrypt automatically" and "factory..."
The downloaded stuff comes directly from Samsung servers.

i used the multiple part version. I didn't know about samfirm_reborn tool. Can i still do something with that? Or is it not necessary anymore.? ?

Don't know which one you got/took.
Should be the same.
Might test versions by downloading with samfirm_reborn as well.

[Q] Can I flash a stock firmware for a different region other than my original stock

First, thank you guys. Just bought a note 8 WiFi version GT-5110. It is a good device, loved it. I've been researching and reading all over the posts about rooting, install custom rom, firmware and etc... I guess the first thing to do is to root my note 8. So, before I root my device I want to know for sure I can return back to original unmodified stock. I found that I can use ODIN to flush official firmware. However, I checked samMobile for the firmware for my country which is Canada. But I couldn't find. I used toolkit to check my note 8 firmware. It is N5110XXBMC9 and the region is XAC. It is the oldest. Hate it, we are so close to the us but always treated differently, and very thing is more expensive.
Question:
1 Can I just flash US region firmware? Since I have the WiFi, it has nothing to do with the phone and carrier. Or, can someone tried to flush a different region firmware tell me what is the outcome.
2 If I flash an US firmware, will I still able to claim warranty in Canada(just in case).
3 Will Flushing firmware with ODIN increase flush count, even I flush with official stock?
4 Last question, after rooting, will note 8 achieve floating multiwindow like note 10. Or, we are still limited to have to window side by side, but with rooting, we can put more apps to choose.
I know you guys are busy, if anyone can help me or point a useful post for me I would be really appreciated.

I would also like to know the answer to this question as I have a New Zealand international model but the rom is old. Can I flash the UK version which is the most uptodate. (I have the wifi version).
Thanks
I decided to give it a try myself.
I flashed the latest BTU N5110XXBMF2 which worked a treat. I checked and this is what is displayed
Custom Binary Download = No
Current Binary = Samsung Official
System Status = Official
So it worked fine for me.

Hello. I am also having this issue, with a GT-N5110 from canada. May I ask the steps in which you flashed the firmware? Did you do it via Odin?

I just downloaded the firmware and used Odin. It didn't wipe the sdcard it just updated the apps. Its worked well ever since.
I have since updated to N5110XXCMK1 using the same method.
Regards
Colin
Thanks. I used the same method to flash 4.2.2 on my device. I am also now on xxcmk1.

flash counter
Hi guys! I was looking to know about this. And I got a few question:
1. I want to make sure about the flash counter. If I change to XXCMK1 my rom, the flash counter goes to 1, or would be like the note 8.0 came with that stock room (nothing change in the counter)?
2. It is a little off of the main question but I will ask anyway: have you tried to add icloud email to the native email manager in the XXCMK1 rom? (Asking just in case you did it, since I read that rom is the one that doesnt have problem to set up in the native email manager?
Thank you guys (literally). I will appreciate your answers.

1. My flash counter did not change when I flashed 4.2.2 using Odin.
But it did when I used auto cf root afterwards to root the phone.
2. Nope I haven't tried.

I had an issue where I (think) I soft-bricked my device, as I could not get it to boot up, it would get stuck on the "samsung" logo and then display a black screen and go no further. My device is Canadian as well, and was running stock Canadian firmware, but I had rooted it before hand and was attempting to flash firmware from another country.
Well, I ended up downloading the US firmware for 4.2.2 from another thread here on XDA and flashed that in a last attempt to fix it, and it worked! But now I'm running US firmware. Since the KitKat update is now available in Canada, I'm downloading that as we speak and am going to flash it when it's done.

Update: flashing went great, just had to remove the .md5 at the end of the ROM file. Everything seems to be in order.

[Resolved] Possibly bricked, help?

Hey,
So I had a friend ask me to unlock her S3, no biggie, I did it with another one (That hadn't been updated and was running 4.1.1 or something)
Following instructions online, I tried to upload a .md5 file via Odin but had the wrong version of Odin, and it failed to load. Now my download screen is showing SW REV CHECK FAIL : Fused 1 > Binary 0
As well, turning the phone on only results in "There was a problem updating the Firmware. Please run recovery mode in Kies."
Which is all fine and dandy, except Kies doesn't connect to the phone. It freezes on "Connecting..." and does not go any further.
Any help? I found another thread about it and am trying to use philz through Odin 3.07 and then flash through an external HDD the CM11.
Do you remember what stock ROM was on the phone before you used Odin?
Does the download screen say anything about warranty bit?

No clue.
Says Warranty Bit : 0
This five minute thing is a tad annoying...
Would be good to note, it is still under Warranty, and samsung offered to have it sent and fixed, however the phone is kind of needed ASAP.
I'm pretty tech-saavy, but I use Apple products generally and this is a touch foreign to me.
Odin failed to write Philz, just says WriteFail
This leads me to believe that the phone has least a 4.3 loader on the phone; therefore, you cannot unlock the phone using the free method as there is no way to get the stock 4.1.1 modem on your phone.
Is it an i747 from ATT? If it is, there is no stock ROM that can be flashed in Odin to restore the phone as ATT never released a full firmware flash for 4.3 or 4.4.2.
Any warranty left on the phone?

She doesn't even care if it's unlocked anymore, as long as we can get it working again.
I'm in Canada, so I'm assuming it is AT&T.
I believe the old OS was Jellybean 4.3. There is warranty, however she doesn't want to wait the length needed for that.

Wait, you have an i747m or i747? Big difference as cross-flashing the bootloader could hard brick the phone.

"odin mode"
product name : Sgh-i747m
You can download the full firmware for the phone from sammobile.com. Search for the sgh-i747. The search results should inlcude the 4.3 and 4.4.2 firmware for the i747m. Make sure you match the firmware with the carrier.
If the phone had the 4.4.2 ROM, you cannot flash the 4.3 ROM.

I'm not overly sure when she purchased it.
Samsung support said the IMEI was still covered by Warranty and to just send it in, but if there's a way to do it today I would like to.
Well, to be as safe as possible, you could try flashing the 4.4.2 Kit Kat ROM from sammobile for her carrier. You may have to register to download the ROM.
Who is the carrier?
Koodoo is her carrier, i'm download both the 4.3 and 4.4.2 at the moment.
So try the 4.4.2 first?
If you go with the 4.4.2 and it flashes properly, you will not be able to go back to 4.3. I recommend using Odin 3.07.
If you try to flash 4.3 and it fails, this tells me you probably have the 4.4.2 bootloader and modem on the phone.
Whenever you flash a ROM, there is always the possibility that something will go wrong. Just be prepared to deal with any possible issues. Don't panic, we're here to help.
When using Odin, do not check anything except F.Reset Time. When you see the word Reset in the status windows, disconnect the USB cable, pull the battery, boot into recovery, wipe cache and data, reboot the phone.

Okay. So going to test with 4.4.2 once it's done downloading.
I had Auto Reboot checked before. When I turn on the phone, I can either set it in Downloading... mode or the error screen, I have absolutely nothing else. Is that the recovery screen I should be using?
To use Odin, you must boot into download mode.
When the file downloads, open Odin, connect the phone in download mode, click on the PDA button, browse to the downloaded 4.4.2 file, select it, click start.
How long does it sit on ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
Before it says reset? I'm attempting this with 4.4.2 under PDA with only F. Reset Time checked.

How to unlock the Samsung Note 2 CANADA (SGH-I317M)

Hello! Now, I am a new member, And solely for one reason..
I AM UNABLE TO FIND A MODEM FLASH FOR 4.1.1 BASEBAND I317MVLUDNH2
Now, I have searched EVERYWHERE, and, all the Rom's are for the I317, and if it is for the I317M, I am unable to download for some odd reason.
Now, Here are the links i've searched through (Just incase I missed something)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005141
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275844
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590452 This may be the answer.. Tho I've heard using a Flash not made for your Modem can brick your phone..

http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...317-att-samsung-galaxy-note-2-on-jelly-bean-4 (links back to first link)
So, I am basically out of ideas. All i want to do is DOWNGRADE to 4.1.1, unlock the phone through the hidden menu, Then go back to 4.4.2. (Since i got the phone from a friend, and am currently using a rogers [Well, More of a Petro-Canada] Sim...)
So, Would I be okay using that Rogers flash? With Phrilz OR TWRP?? Or how would i go about this???
FIGURED IT OUT!!!
Okay, Here is a rundown on how to do it:
1. First download TWRP https://twrp.me/Devices/
2. Download the ROGERS Modem firmware http://d-h.st/rJq
3. Download Odinhttp://androidhost.org/get/PVAIv
4. Enable USB Developer Mode
5. Put the Phone into Odin download mode (Shutdown. Hold down Power+Volume Dwn+home. When the Bootsplash shows, Let go of Power button. Press Volume Up
6. Open Odin on your computer, browse to the TWRP .img (if you haven't already unzipped it, Do so) In the PDA section
7. Hit start, Wait till it is finished
8. Now, Open the phone directory in your windows manager thats built into the OS.
9. Drag the .zip into your main phone directory ( / )
10. Shutdown the phone, Hold power+Volume Up +home. Do it until bootsplash is done. (same as step 5)
11. In TWRP, select backup, then backup the MODEM folder. (I honestly forgot this step, If you have. There is links for the original baseband.)
12. Once that is backed up, You can either upload it to your desktop (i'd recommend doing that) Then, Open install, Browse for the .zip for the MODEM, then flash.
13. The system will reboot back into TWRP, just pull the battery out, and insert it back in, boot up the phone.
14. Type in your dial: *#197328640#, UMTS, DEBUG SCREEN, PHONE CONTROL, NETWORK LOCK, Then select option 4. Reboot phone
The simcard should now work!! Now, You can either install the old firmware you backed up, or just leave it.
New firmware for 4.4.2 Incase anyone Needs it: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I317M/
Hopefully this helps anyone. It took me 5 hours to find out all this info (because the phone is a I317M, Not the non "m" version)
THANKYOU FOR ALL THE WORK OTHERS DID FOR ANY OF THESE PROGRAMS USED!!!!
THIS DOES NOT WORK ON CUSTOM ROM!!! You must have the original Stock rom, or atleast something close with the samsung stock dialer, as the code only works on those.
Thank you for your detail instructions. Recently I got a used a SGH-I317M locked to Rogers. It has firmware 4.4.2. Will it be safe to follow your instructions to flash the 4.1.1 Rogers modem only, do unlock, and then restore to the original 4.4.2 modem with twrp?
Thanks,
Howard

Yes that should work (So sorry for the late reply, I haven't been on this site since I made the post) Just make sure to backup before you do anything incase it does happen to screw up Just remember to select that last link (sammobile) and get the firmware FOR YOUR NEW CARRIER, not the old one.
I need to unlock my At&T note 2 but it is now running 5.1.1 Bliss Pop. I tried that code but of course it wont work.
I sent the IMEI number and paid to have it unlocked but the company I sent the money to said they could not unlock it either.
What would I have to do to this phone to unlock it. I am in Cananda this week and want to use this PetroCan sim card I paid for.

Okay, this is quite simple, install TWRP as usual, but backup the MODEM you have right now for 5.1.1, Then follow through the instructions, and install the MODEM you backed up after. That shoould work, if not, try to find modems for the phone for 5.1.1, But usually, (if my computer knowledge is correct) a new OS shoould support and older modem, so, you can try 5.1.1 with a 4.4.2 modem.

your second link modem
it has tons of popups and when its not trying to open new windows and ask for browser access etc it downloads a "flash file" your 1.4mb download is a exe and puts up a warning.
since samsung removed the menu entery they left in by mistake on early 4.1x releases there is no way this ork to do anything but install malware and trojans from your site.

You can extract the modem from the stock 4.1.2 ROM or you can flash the entire stock ROM in Odin, unlock, and flash back to the latest stock ROM.

Cant get odin to work on windows 10

Hi I just installed windows 10 not too long ago. And I have a tmo note 2 running cyananogenmod 12.1 the n7105 version. I cant seem to get odin to read my phone. I tried to get the lastest version of odin from here but the link is removed. I did a search and got nothing except that odin does in fact work on windows 10. So it must be my phone. Does anyone have any Idea why it is not working?

Can an International (F) firmware be flashed into a Korean (N) Device?

I'm tired of these ****ty korean bloatware.
I've been trying to flash F firmware on my unrooted N device for a week now with no success, it's always some kind of PIT/Partition error, ticked/unticked Re-partition, ticked/unticked NAND erase, Used/Unused PIT file, patched Odin, unpatched Odin, nothing works, always "Fail Secure (PIT)" error.
someone told me that the F CSC had a different partition than the N CSC, so how do I re-partition? why does it keep failing?
Can an International (F) firmware be flashed into a Korean (N) Device?
why isn't there a clear answer to this question anywhere?
yes i did. actually i took mine to a local mall mobile service shop. the tech guy installed twrp and installed a custom rom- something named lamlazy azmobile bla bla.. . it was all good. the ONLY thing missing was- OTA update. i did lot of youtube and google on this- in some i found the OTA still available in that particular rom while in others that OTA option is missing. that's why i reverted back to the stock KT-variant firmware.
right now i am on the hunt of how to just root and 'hack' the original firmware- just so i can get rid of KT apps which are in control of my only, current gripe- there is no Preferred Network selection option like you see on a global firmware. I only see 3G/LTE Auto and 3G Only options. I need unlocked 2G only, 3g only, 2g/3g auto, 2g/3g/lte auto option.
so, to answer your question- yes it is absolutely possible to convert any korea variant S9+ into global variant. at least with custom rom- not yet sure if it is possible with stock global rom/firmware.

I'm tired of these ****ty korean bloatware.
I've been trying to flash F firmware on my unrooted N device for a week now with no success, it's always some kind of PIT/Partition error, ticked/unticked Re-partition, ticked/unticked NAND erase, Used/Unused PIT file, patched Odin, unpatched Odin, nothing works, always "Fail Secure (PIT)" error.
someone told me that the F CSC had a different partition than the N CSC, so how do I re-partition? why does it keep failing?

yes you can do it, and no you dont need to bring it to a shop and pay someone. Just get patched Odin and the F variant firmware you want to flash.

already ahead of you, I installed Soldier rom with a F CSC but there some issues that you start to notice after a while because the the partition for the N CSC isn't the same as the F CSC, so the F CSC doesn't install completely.

like I stated in my op, patched odin didn't work for me no matter what I did, and I haven't seen anyone so far that confirms that it actually works in flashing an F firmware on an N device. so did you actually flash a F firmware on an N device yourself?

unpack both the korean firmware's CSC and the F CSC that youre trying to use, remove the pit from the F firmware, replace it with the Korean PIT, repack the file and flash it.
you can also try an older version of Odin, as that has caused so many headaches for folks in the past. Odin version mismatches can be a mother trucker
oh yes, i had the same issue when i tried patched odin. i didn't know much about PIT. so, after fiddling around for some time, i went back to stock KT firmware. by the way, have you seen this?

According to this, we need to root our phone, then remove CSC folder and restart. then copy-paste couple of files in the system folder. He did it on his Note 4 though. But my problem with network selection limitations and bloatwares are exactly the same as he was showing on his KT variant Note 4.
anyway, i will surely try extracting the PIT file fron N firmware and replace that in F firmware. any tips/guide how can i do that please?
