App Provided Sounds? Push notifications - Honor View 20 Questions & Answers

Hello,
My question is in regards to my thread below.
Apps Custom Notification Sounds Not Working - eBay, BBC News

'I have a Honor View 20 on Magic 3.1.0 (10.1.0.241). I remember installing all my Apps from the Google Play Store, then going through Settings and tweaking the phone it to my preference.
Unfortunately the customised notification sounds for two apps I know of aren't working, eBay which is normally a Cha Ching and BBC News. Instead all notifications use the same sound which I have selected (Chess).
This wasn't the case with my Honor 8, not sure what to try, maybe someone can shed some light on this. '
Does anyone know if the App Provided Sound option exists on the Honor View 20, notification sounds?
I've tried to clear data, clear cache, uninstall, reinstall both eBay and BBC News but these apps provided sound doesn't work. If I check notifications, sounds, it just says Chess (default).
Any advice welcome, thanks.

Sound Recorder in JB 4.1.1

Hi guys. First post for me but I've been reading these forums ever since I got my GN in January. Thanks to these forums I successfully updated my phone to yakju, then takju, and this morning to takju with JB 4.1.1. So...first I want to say thanks.
Second, I do have a question regarding the Sound Recorder app in JB. I noticed it for the first time when it popped up as an option while trying to upload to Facebook. I don't see it in the app or widget drawer. I checked in settings> apps>all and I see it there. Is there a way to add it to the home screen or actually launch it? Maybe I'm missing something and in that case feel free to pwn me.
Thanks in advance...
i too would like to know this, if anyone has any idea?
Just as in previous versions of android, the sound recorder app is not able to launch via the app drawer. If you really want to launch it, there is some code that you can put in to a terminal app, but the app will not actually save sounds to your phone. It is used as an extension of sorts that records sounds into certain apps, messages, etc... If you want to record audio files to your phone check out an app like Easy Voice Recorder on Google Play Store or my personal favorite, TapeMachine Recorder. (Sorry, can't post links yet.)
thanks for this jong31 - this is my first android device so wasn't aware of this particular limitation seen as all my other handsets down the years have always had a voice/sounder recorder built in!
i will go and download from the store now

Best Sony Smartwatch2 [SW2] Apps&Games

NOTE: This thread isn't updated by me anymore as I had to sell my SmartWatch 2. Check the latest replies to the thread for new apps, though. Keep 'em coming!
Good day fellow XDAians!
I recently bought my very own Smartwatch 2 and I had no idea where to start looking for applications. The built-in search function of Sony's Smartwatch2 app redirects to the Play Store with a certain search query but it not always shows all apps that belong to the category you've selected. So I decided to make a thread dedicated for only the best Apps&Games for the Sony Smartwatch 2!
If you know a great app or game, please let me know. I'll try to include most useful apps in this post. For each category, the free apps and games are listed before the paid ones. Let's get started.
First off, the application that is required for the SW2 to connect with your phone:
> SmartWatch 2 SW2 by Sony Mobile Communications
Secondly, with the new firmware where we can change wallpapers and create our own watchface, Sony decided to add an Easter Egg to the calculator. Have you ever wondered what 1035 equals?
> 1035 = Free Snake Game
(in case it wasn't clear yet, if you type "1035" in the calculator on your smartwatch and then press "=", you'll find the new game on your SmartWatch)
Notifications
> WatchIt! by Jonas Petersson
[free]
Will pick up notifications from the phone and display them in various ways.
> Watchify (Beta) SW2 Extension by A. Sagrebin
[free] [XDA thread]
Allows tons of notifications to pop up on your smartwatch, with Whatsapp, Email, Gmail and Hangouts currently supported to show 'extended notifications' so they'll show the entire message. It also allows setting options for these notifications such as not vibrating at night.
> Calendar smart extension by Sony Mobile Communications
[free]
Shows each upcoming calendar item with location and tapping an item shows more details.
> Quick Reply for SmartWatch 2 by IngeniousApps
[rooted] [€2,41] [XDA thread]
Lets you actually write replies to whatsapp messages as well as view incoming ones on the smartwatch.
> Tasker - Smart Notifier by Shouvik Basu
[free] [donate app at €1,21] [requires Tasker at €2,99]
Send notifications and choose actions accordingly on your SmartWatch via Tasker!
Control apps
> Tasker - Smart Extensions by Shouvik Basu
[free] [donate app at €1,21] [requires Tasker at €2,99]
Ever wanted to decide yourself what to control with your SmartWatch but don't have enough programming knowledge to make your own apps? With this Tasker extension you can!
> Media Control Extension by Lex
[free]
A beautiful app with large, comfortable buttons to control your smartphone's volume, play, pause, skip and for-/backward music; takes little time to load as opposed to Sony's media control application.
> Camera Smart Extension by Sony Mobile Communications
[free]
Turns your smartwatch into a remote smartphone camera trigger. Don't expect the live view to be smooth however.
Games
> 2048 for Smartwatch by Jonathan B.
[free]
Can't get enough of this game on your phone or in the browser? Why not have it on your smartwatch for free!
> BlackJack Extension by Tesseract Mobile
[free] [features ads on phone when replenishing bank money]
"When I'm getting a Smartwatch, I'll get one with BlackJack and Hoo... wait, let's just keep it at BlackJack."
Smartphone apps with added support for the Smartwatch 2
> Light Flow by Reactle
[€1,75] [lite version: free]
Has the option to push all sorts of device notifications to the Smartwatch, but not the extended ones. Therefore you won't get full messages, only short text (pretty handy still if you had already bought this app).
> SmartVanilla Music by Alexander Watt
[free]
Extension to control music through the application
Other
> RSS for Smart Extras™ by Sony Mobile Communications
[free]
Read your RSS feeds on your SmartWatch!
> Tiny Tasks by Lex
[€0,72]
Syncs with Google Tasks so that you can view and mark tasks as complete on your watch.
> Slideshow smart extension by Sony Mobile Communications
[free]
Makes it possible to view images from your phone on your wrist.
> Remote Widget for SmartWatch2 by NeFa Studio
[€1,13] [working ideas]
Put any SmartPhone widget on your SmartWatch!
Do you have anything to add? Please let me know by posting it including a link below!
This list is constantly updating, so keep an eye out!

Is the Lite version also capable of sending to the Smartwatch? I thought I read in the specific thread about the app that only the Pro version was capable. Anyway, I added a new section to the list: Smartphone apps with added support for the Smartwatch 2 :good::cyclops:

That definitely looks like an interesting app!
Now I just wish I had a way to pay for it *come on Google, introduce me to your Play Gift cards here as well*
I will however included it in my list, as it seems original enough. Does it let users accurately reply whatsapp messages to incoming ones, and does it work in group chats as well? I just wish there was a way to have full whatsapp on your wrist, including all contacts and previous messages.
Does it actually show your message after replying in a 'conversation kind of way', including previous messages? If not, could that be an improvement to save previous messages as well?
Ha! Great thought..
It does accurately reply to whatsapp individuals and groups and sms as well..
I am working on full whatsapp conversations.. But even if I succeed in it.. I ll be a standalone app with no notifications stuff.. Because SW2 api limitations have binded me to cut short a few things...
Love your collection btw.. Keep it up! Cheers mate!

both will work, difference only is that limited apps to use in lite version
I just found a great widget for the Remote Widget SmartWatch extension.
Try putting Sony's TrackID widget on the watch. Clicking it will result in a music search even with the phone's display off!
It's a perfect example of what this app is capable of!
*More ideas may follow in this post*
If you have any other perfect examples, be sure to share them here so I can include them in the list
okay, in the light flow app, the notification is only showing amount of unread notifications, like in gmail, it shows 1 unread, total 1, instead of showing context

So far this app has been a lifesaver. Tiny Tasks syncs up with your Google Tasks so that you can view and mark complete all from your watch

I think WatchIt! should be in this topic too.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.petersson.watch
It's a notifications plugin too.
thank you for this gathering
I'm a new SW2 user as well. SmartTasker is another nice app (although not free), nicer interface than the Tasker Smart Extension.

I don't even... know why I never found this app when I was searching on the Play Store for potential apps.
I have yet to try it still, but it looks very promising!
*added to the top of the list*
If anyone knows some more free games, or very good (non laggy) paid ones, I'd love to put more of those on my list

It's great, I've been using it for some time now, and even works while the bluetooth connection is lost, the notifications are still available then.
Also be sure to hit 1035= in the calculator for a nice game

Totally forgot to put that in the post!
That game is basically the only game that does not lag, I'm guessing because it's the only one where the smartwatch itself does the calculations?
Oh if only I knew how to program my own apps..

I haven't tried it yet. Does it work well?
The idea of my post is not to put random apps in there, but apps that are actually one of the better (the app has 3 one star ratings and 3 two star ones, which makes me wonder...).
It looks to work well though, when I read the description. I might update my post with this game :cyclops:
EDIT: on your snake game: I tried it and it was laggy. Laggy in a way that it wasn't playable to me. The "calculator easter egg snake" is much better so I won't put that snake game in the post.
No problem, haven't tried the sudoku or the blocks game yet.. Someone else might have though..

Hmm.. Forgot to mention a very interesting free app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.extras.liveware.extension.rss It displays RSS feeds on your watch. I've added RSS feeds from news sites and combined with the watchit app I get notified whenever there's a new news item..

I have not disabled Playstore related apps and services because they are needed obviously. But you can delete them just in case. Plus, by deleting all these apps, i cannot use PIN or PASSWORD lock. Pattern is working fine and i haven't found the culprit yet. Everything else is working fine. I had almost 500mb free RAM after doing this(no apps installed through playstore yet).
Did i miss something? Please mention. Needless to say you can keep the apps that you want to use. Hopefully i helped...
**EDIT**
Don't disable VPN Dialogs if you use a VPN app. The app will not work i.e. it won't connect to the servers.
More Apps added in first post.
One more thing i would like to share with you guys from my experience, just in case someone finds it useful.
If you guys are deleting bloat for more storage space, then its fine. But if storage is not an issue and you're doing it for battery saving only, then i think keeping all the bloat and installing donate version of Greenify and Greenifying everything is far better option than deleting the apps because deleting the bloat causes the phone to lag and sometimes FC's. When i deleted all the bloatware, for sure i was having more free ram but i didn't notice a substantial gain in battery life. Now my phone is back in original state and i have greenified everything and now my battery gives me 1 hour more of SCREEN ON time. I am not sure if it will be the same for everyone. Just my 2 cents...

Honor 8x complaints !

Below represent my own opinions and views based on years of using honor/huawei phones but specifically my latest one, Honor 8x.
1. Official Gmail app cannot show notification dots/numbers under honor launcher. If you go to launcher settings--> Badge app icons, gmail app will never be there as one of the options.
2. Official honor email client limits number of gmail accounts you can have. I have enetered 10 gmail accounts and on trying to enter another one app tells me limit reached and i have to delete all (yes that's right ALL) current gmail accounts if i want to add another one !
BTW honor's email client is about as primitive as they come with very few features/options available so don't expect a gmail, edison, thunderbird, protonmail etc.. experience.
3. Notifications sometimes fail due to aggressive background battery optimisation. Yes you can try and control some of these via 'ignore optimisation' but they don't always seem to work. Search the web and you'll see many complaining about this same issue.
4. Honor's reluctance to install any other launcher but their own. Yes you can do it but (a) first they warn you that it's not recommended, why ? and (b) notifications again become a problem if you move away from their launcher. For example, i tried Nova with tesla unread and ran into the notification problem outlined in 1 above.
5. Comparing with some of my other phones, 1+3T (stock) and Honor 9 Lite (OmniRom) this 2018 Kirin 710 is NOT impressing me. It's ok but not what i expected in late 2018 mid range and the H9L, with OmniRom gsi, beats it hands down. I can only put this down to Honor's EMUI overhead.
6. Bloatware, some you can uninstall but not all. You can disable the rest but not uninstall them, why ? why do i want to keep facebook services on my phone if i don't use facebook ? for example.
7. Lastly, the elephant in the room, as it were. Since no bootloader is available for honor devices anymore (yes i knew this when i bought it) many of these complaints can never be overcome.
Honor's devices are great value for money, that's why even knowing all the above i still buy them, but they fail on so many fundamental things for people who like android because of its customisation potential. Also it has been my experience, after owning 5 different honor phones, that they're not great on updates either.
Enough of a rant, only wanted to put this out there as my own personal view of my experience with Honor phones. Love their design, looks and pricing, hate their functionality (or lack of it) compared to other developer friendly phones.

You have entered 10 email accounts...that's a lot
10 email accounts on a phone are totally enough for a normal person otherwise you have special needs. It is ok to download some apps to do it.
I have similar complaints.
Just got an Honor 8x last weekend, and it's lovely phone, fast enough but the battery optimisation is ridiculous. I wish there was a global way to turn it all off, without messing with it, WhatsApp stopped getting messages, DNS Ad-Blockers are a write-off, my google feed refreshes and reloads WHILE IM READING IT!! and basically leaving an app for more than 5 seconds makes it unload and reload when I come back. For instance, i'm on reddit is fun app, click a YT video, and when i press back after watching it, reddit app refreshes and i'm back at the front page, having lost my place.
I'm on nova launcher as well, took me a little minute to figure that one out!!!
I'm really annoyed about DNS ad blockers (VPNs) just not working. I want to use Blockada but even with every single 'keep alive' setting, and all battery optimisations off in app settings, it seems to just eventually freeze and kill the network connection entirely, wether wifi or mobile.
I bought it because my Moto G5S+ was away for repair (GPS) and was taking forever. I'm right on the edge of switching back because battery optimisation combined with horrible EMUI limitations is starting to really wind me up. It's my phone, let me manage it!
Oh i thought of another. Join SMS app doesn't work. Only the default app on huawei devices can write to the SMS database, so sending a text from join in chrome sends the text, with no record of it at all in the sms database, ie textra when you look on your phone. That's really bad for me, I hate typing on the phone and try to get around that as much as possible.

tracking software

Hello,
I have just a quick question. I have zuk z2 4.0.199. I'm concerned about whether there is some secret "tracking software" preinstalled which sends my messages etc. to some servers somewhere, or something like that. I have uninstalled some of the default chinese apps, but others I can't, and others might be hidden. (for instance, I recently started receiving "daily news" in chinese, and I can't get rid of them)
Is there any list of the potentially dangerous apps, and tools to uninstall them?
Thank you!
