Dear All,
I hard bricked my ZE551ML 64GB by using the following sequence:
'fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img'
'fastboot flash fastboot recovery.img'
'fastboot flash fastboot boot.img'
'fastboot flash fastboot system.img' <-- got error only at this stage
So don't do it it is totally wrong.
Now I got the usb logo when i go to fastboot, see attached image.
I can see a procedure for Zenfone 5 to recover from this error here:
http://www.asus-zenfone.com/2014/11/how-to-unbrick-zenfone-5-and-zenfone-6_8.html
My question is does the same procedure exists for Zenfone 2 and where to download all the files?
Thanks
I believe most of the programs there should also work for the ZF2. I would give this procedure a try, and I wish I could get my hands on a Bricked device to try this. But remember, DON'T use the ZF5/6 images!
Get the stock images for the ZF2 from: https://www.asus.com/Phones/ZenFone_2_ZE551ML/HelpDesk_Download/

What are FZ DnX, IFWI, FW DnX and OS images files ?
How to extract them from the site you mentioned?
Another issue, is my PC refuses to regonise the ZF2 when connecting to USB, saying MTP Android USB driver failed to install....
I have no experience with FZ DnX, IFWI, FW DnX files, but the OS image file is on the site I posted.
Follow my link. Once there, expand the list 'Firmware' and download firmware Version WW_2.15.40.10. Once its downloaded, open the zip file. Inside should be a System.img file. Extract the System.img file into your Fastboot folder. This is the OS image the guide is referring to.
Ask around for the meaning of the other files. Meanwhile, I will research more about those files later tomorrow and get back with any info I can find. Good luck!

install driver manually. see attachment.
When you plug your phone into the computer, does the phone show up in the device management? Typing devmgmt.msc into the windows 7 start menu or the start run menu on XP is the fastest way to get to Device Manager.
Is the device already known by your computer?
What does device manager think it is?
If its unknown, please let us know what the Hardware Ids and Compatible Ids for this device show up as. In device manageer, you can open the devices properties and under the details tab choose Hardware Ids and Compatible Ids. you could screen shot these with Alt + PrtScn and use mspaint to save them off. Otherwise you have to use Ctrl + C to copy them out . You can choose all lines by selecting the first and while holding Shift, select the last. Then you can Ctrl + C to copy all of them out.
Looks like you've flashed incorrectly.
Should be
fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
What you've essentially done (or tried to do) is flashed over fastboot with 4 different images. Only the first line of commands you used is correct.

Yes got this sequence from this forum,,, anyway I go the phone replaced now and all is fine.
Thanks people for the help.
I won't be rooting this phone until there is a more safe proven way to do it.
I think that avoiding flashing droidboot and recovery, and making sure file hashes match, everything should be fine.
Same issue

I put my 64gb sd in my ZF2 that I originally partitioned for my LG Optimus Pro and I moved a bunch of apps to the SD with link2sd and the first time I rebooted, the same screen with the USB logo and a full progress bar showed up. It won't recognize any fastboot or adb commands even though the ASUS adb is showing up in device manager. Nothing else shows up. In devices and printers I get Moorefield. The phone randomly reboots and goes back to the same screen over and over and each time the asus adb disappears from device manager and then returns. I found a guide on the zenfone 5 that looks promising, using the intel flash tool, however it requires the ZenFone 2 raw firmware files and I can't find them... Hopefully someone could help me salvage my ZF2 cuz I was really beginning love the phone... Thanks ahead of time for anyone that looks into this for me!
i can give you the files you look for. the easiest was is to flash with intel flash tool. Here you can read how th etool works and you found a link there.
I load your files up now here.
sry, had only the files for V5. I will load down and put it here.

Lol @ "got sequence on this forum" and "more safe proven way."
You didn't read the instructions carefully enough and made a big mistake as a result. The correct sequence was given. You just didn't read it carefully. Lesson learned.
Hopefully you can unbrick it.
No offense, but this type of thing is what happens when people just copy/paste and don't understand what they're doing.
What you did was overwrite the fastboot partition each time you flashed. You flashed a 2GB system img on top of your fastboot partition. This probably seemed like it locked up and you either unplugged or turned it off. This likely caused a corrupt partition.
Reading is key when you do anything with your phone.
This is perfectly safe. This is the way it works for all devices. It has nothing to do with the files or the phone. This was 100% user error. Simple as that.

Hi everyone ! I'm here after a long time. I am really ashamed of asking many noob questions here. But now I might be bringing something useful.
So I bought the piece of useless brick Asus Zenpad C 7.0. it's pretty useless. Can't even watch a movie without the battery draining down to 0.
Anyway..So @AwesomeLewis24 posted a method to unlock the bootloader and root this device. Right after he made that thread, Asus started rolling out updates every 10 days. I updated my device to the newest and now that method was no longer working. It really pissed me off because I really wanted to uninstall the bloatware.
But today...After a lot of headbanging and bargaining with Kim Jong un..I finally rooted the Tablet.
But before we start, please go through this thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...-zenpad-c-7-0-z170c-p01z-root-method-t3311752
Read this incase anything goes wrong. But I'm pretty sure it won't. So let's start.
First, download this file and put it on desktop. https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3640170&d=1455053113
Now download adb and fastboot tools. https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3640175&d=1455053186
Extract them into a folder. Open that folder with the files and shift+right click there. Choose open command window here.
In the cmd window, type this
Code:
adb reboot fastboot
Now your tablet will boot into fastboot mode. It will be a running android with green background.
Now in the same cmd window type
Code:
fastboot devices
It should list a device. If not then comment.
After your device is listed you have to type these command. NOW PLEASE PAY ATTENTION !! ONLY TYPE THESE COMMANDS . DO NOT TYPE THE "adb format userdata" and "adb format cache" COMMANDS. IT WILL RESULT IN A BRICKED DEVICE.
So, type these commands.
Code:
fastboot oem asus-go
fastboot oem asus-go confirm
Now the bootloader will be unlocked. Now reboot the device by typing this
Code:
fastboot reboot
This will now start your tablet like normal an d you won't see any difference. Now go back Into fastboot by doing
Code:
Adb reboot fastboot
Now in fastboot, do this
Code:
fastboot boot "C:\Users\{your PC user name here}\Desktop\root-z170c_cg.img"
Now reboot again as we did earlier and you are done. You have rooted your asus Zenpad C 7.0 without loosing any of the data.
Make sure you use SuperSU.
I really don't know where you can mess this up but in case of brick do what @AwesomeLewis24 did.
Firstly, leave fastboot by powering off the
thanks!!!!!!!!

Download Intel usb driver: software.intel.com/en-us/android/articles/intel-usb-driver-for-android-devices
Manually select "Intel Android ADB Interface" driver for the unrecognized device in Device Manager.
Good luck!

Rooted two ZenPads just now using this guide, confirmed working. Note you need to install the Intel adb drivers to access fastboot and "fastboot oem asus-go confirm" can be omitted, it doesn't do anything.
Thank you thenewgengamer! :highfive:
hi
I did according to the manual, but in the Root test, I was told that the device did not have a root
What can I do?
i dont see the device listed.
it is unknown device in the device manager.
tried to install with intel usb but it doesn't work still unknown and it's connecting and disconnecting every 5 seconds.......
so anyone knows why is this happening? is this asus protection????
the device connects and disconnects every 5 seconds when in fastboot.....
is there a way to flash the img without fastboot or pc?
Hello everyone and thank you thenewgengamer for the tutorial.
I am stuck too with fastboot.
The device is not seen anymore by the computer. I tried to install all the drivers but it's the same.
If anyone has a clue to resolve it, it'll be very helpfull
Cheers !
But when i do that why i see no command on my recovery ?
I'm also stuck because my device isn't showing up. Was there an update that broke this method? I've tried this on PC and Mac.
I finally got a computer to recognize my device, and with adb devices there was actually a device listed for the first time. However, I am now having the same disconnect after 5 seconds problem. This is so frustrating. WTF am I doing wrong?
sorry, i have a problem. can we istall magisk in this tablet?
will this work on 5.0.2 P01Y version 12.26.4.57 WW?
Thank you very much

Hi dear community,
I have a new Moto G30 which is now does not boot and keeps getting stuck at bootscreen where the logo is, even after trying to boot for hours. This happened after a reboot where nothing special happened before. I have not installed any custom ROM, and have no idea why this is happening. There is no SD card in it, battery can not be taken out. I tried booting from stock recovery in all possible ways, nothing worked. Tried leaving it shut off for half a day.
Support say the only option is factory reset. However I need to get the data to my laptop before resetting. Is there a way to use Rescue and Smart Assistant for this? I can not boot the phone and can only boot in recovery. Or could I install TWRP or something via ADB sideload would allow me to then use ADB pull or something to get the photos, but TWRP is not yet available for G30?
Thank you!

Use LMSA Rescue to download firmware.
You will see a screen that has the device's current firmware, and the firmware LMSA will download.
Make sure they are the same, you can post a screenshot of that if you are not sure.
Then use fastboot.exe to flash this

Make sure they are the same, you can post a screenshot of that if you are not sure.
Then use fastboot.exe to flash this
Code:
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
then reboot the device.

"fastboot set_active other" to switch slot
It looks like the above needs to be typed in somewhere. Because I do not see any typing option on any of the screens the device shows in this situation.
Please help further. I'm not sure if the developer of the given ROM is reading my posts. I'm very hopeful on him to resolve my issue. Fingers crossed.

Hi:
I'm with the same problem here, and i'm trying the "fastboot set_active other" command, but it returns me: "waiting for any device".
How can I proceed to make the phone recognized by the PC?

Enable "USB debugging" in Dev.Options, Boot into fastboot mode on phone, type "fastboot devices" and it should give you a code--then your phone is ready for fastboot flashing files
Tried in another computer with Windows 10. It returns: "Slot change is not allowed in Lock State"
I get the a code with the fastboot devices, so it seems the phone is ready.
Finally used MSM tool. I lost all my photoss but I recovered the phone.
Thanks for all the help!
