Greetings. Can someone tell me how to turn off Always on Display. I've Googled it and done what many sites say, but there is no setting there. In addition, if I type in the settings search box Always on Display, AOD, or Ambient Display, nothing shows up.

In Android 11 go to Settings/Display/Advanced/Lock Screen/Always show time and info.

Hey guys,
I want my Nexus to wake up when I shake it. I have secure settings and other things with it work well, but I can't turn on the phone. I tried many different things... any tips welcome.
Go to Menu > Settings > Monitor > Display Off Monitoring > Select 'Yes' (or whatever is opposite to what you have on currently)
where? settings of tasker? secure setting (I don't see settings for it)? my phone? trying to find it..
ok so you mean in tasker... I have a bunch of options under display off monitoring. which one am I changing?

ah ha!
ok so I asked you two questions but I figured it out. it's the accelerator, which is what is checking to see if I'm shaking the scree. the option I had was set to "only when powered on" and I changed it to yes, so now the phone can checks for it with screen off.. now just to make sure it's not TOO sensitive so it doesn't just turn on in my pocket..

Yep, this could also be a bad idea in terms of battery, if you run the task the accelerometer is polling 24/7 (well at least when the phone is on) so it could lead to battery levels diminishing fairly quickly I'm pretty sure.

It's also not working 100%... hm. but mostly.
Got any ideas about how to activate the phone without the power button? something that would save battery?
I like AOD and i have it on as default. However, when I'm at work I don't need to have it on since I can see my notifications & calls from the computer (using Join extensions & app). I tried messing around with Tasker but unable to accomplish anything so far. Do you guys know any quick way to turn on/off AOD without having to go into the display settings?
Edit - Found an app that let me toggles AOD
App is called "Tiles". There's a tile in the app called "Always On", switch it on, then run this adb command to allow the app make secure setting changes: adb shell pm grant com/rascarlo.quick.settings.tiles android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Link to app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rascarlo.quick.settings.tiles
One workaround. Pull town quick tiles, touch menu (gear to right of date), then in search box type "ambient", that will let you choose "Battery > Ambient Display". It takes long steps the first time. Next time just pull down tiles, touch gear, touch search bar, touch "ambient" (that stays in list), touch home button. It seems the 2XL keeps the last five searches.
There may be a better way, but I have not found it yet. Been trying to do it with Tasker and maybe a plugin, but nothing yet.

I have Tiles, granted permission through ADB, and the Ambient Display toggle does nothing.
Edit: It turns on and off the "New notification - wake screen when you receive notifications" setting. Not the Always On setting..
Edit 2: You need to use the Always On tile and not Ambient Display. Works well!

If you could, please provide a link to "Tiles". I tried searching for it in the Play Store and most of the hits are games.
I'm trying to find a solution to my phone screen turning off when it's plugged in and a call comes in. Maybe this is the fix I've been looking for.

Here you go: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rascarlo.quick.settings.tiles
You can also squeeze your phone/activate assistant and say "turn always on display off"
Tasker does work, try the "custom setting" option.
I think I have enabled this feature in the settings but the screen still goes black after a few seconds. Please advise.
Display>Advanced>Ambient Display
Yes, i enabled it there
since we are on the subject of displays, how do you get the pics to stop scrolling on the always on display when you are charging from the pixel stand?
I don't know if restarting my phone or the screen protector was interfering with the sensor but I removed it and it seems to work now.
is there no way to add an image to the ambient display or any other customization?
settings have a search function just type anything in there that you may want to change or generic phrase to narrow it down like screen will give you all the screen options only.

This is really annoying, when my phone is charging and the screen is off, it constantly shows the battery % and time until battery is charged. Tried turning off the AOD, looked all through the settings and no go. Anyway to turn this off??? My note 9 does not do this

I posted this on another thread, hope it helps. Worked for me:
I got the package disabler from here https://www.packagedisabler.com/ . It's kind of shady so I advise to use PayPal(it is not a free app) if possible. You will need to enable the option to sideload applications, do a search for 'unknown sources' on the phone, should pop-up right away. Download the app from the site, search it with the file explorer and install it, you should also receive a code in your email after you pay, paste it. Scroll down until you see 'Always on Display' and select disable. This worked for me. The app is more than $3.00 as they charge in Euros. Hope this help
Any other option how to disable it? A lot of people use AOD and this option probably will turn whole AOD.

I don't think it is possible with regular settings or tweaks, It is such a replacement for missing LED indicator in Note 10(+). Unlike previous model.
I was always wondering about this as if the phone is on charge every night what is stopping the burn in on the screen. it's a good answer to the lack of a LED, but it seems a bit overkill.
Search for screen saver under display or lock screen settings. It's about what to display when phone is charging.

The screen saver won't show if you press power button to turn off screen. It will only work if you wait for screen to turn off by itself.

I consider everything outside the play store as 'shady'. Anyways, I used PayPal and the app worked great. One thing to consider that I don't think has been mentioned is that you 2ont be able to change your lock screen clock shape as it is tied to the AOD app somehow.

thanks. that's okay with me (clock). do I need to use adb or anything like that? there are apps outside of the Play store that are not shady.

Ah...but it's not the only way.
If you prefer to stick to the play store instead of third party I'm currently using CCSWE from Google play for this.
You CAN do this with the free version. Simply go to the search box in the app type AOD and search. Disable the one labeled com.samsung.android.app.aodservice.
This will disable the AOD completely - so no charging screen and no general AOD use.

Download a black wallpaper, such as this one: https://i.imgur.com/NakfHv4.jpg
Put it ina folder by itself and label it so you remember it.
Turn on screensaver under Display Settings, and set the screensaver to photo frame. Set that to the folder that contains your our black wallpaper.
Now when you charge the phone, it will start the screen saver, which will be all black, no charging notification. If you still see the charging notification, just double tap the screen to go to lockscreen and let it time out. The notification will be gone.

You don't need to download any background. Just choose photo but don't select your google account.

Hello, I just got my pixel 6 pro today. And I've been having some issues. Especially with the "tap to check phone" gesture.
I remember vividly that when I would tap on my phone, the screen with show up, but dimmed. And now when I tap my phone, it shows the phone's lockscreen at full brightness instead of being dimmed, which is arguably not what it used to be.
Was this changed in a later update, or is there a way to fix that? I really liked that feature and I really want it back!

As informative as this thread is, that's not the issue. I don't want it disabled. I want it to behave that when you tap on the phone, it shows the always on display briefly, instead of turning on the screen. I swear this used to work before
