Can I flash another region ROM? - Xiaomi Mi 10T / 10T Pro Questions & Answers

I have the IDXM version of the phone and it's still on miui 12.0.1.0
Is it possible to flash the EEA version or will it bootloop?

Yes, but don't lock bootloader. If you lock it chances are it will brick your device, as it did on previous phones... So choose clean all option in miflash, not clean & lock!

I bought the EEA version of the phone but wanted the Global version .
This morning I used the Mi Tool v2 to convert to Global with no issues,
It even works on locked bootloader,
The tool is quite intuitive and lets you convert to all different regions.
I believe you only run into issues with Chinese phones and ROMs but could be wrong.
It did stop at 4.99% for a while when applying the ROM but after few mins it flew.
You also need to back up your data as it will be lost

Worked for me on Redmi Note 10S. But maan, was it scary... It got stuck on 5% as yours but also the pushed file size went past 100%, resulting in negative 300s ETA...
Having had bricked devices using only stock utilities (and not even unlocking BL), that scared the crap out of me.
Also it gave en error after the process actually finished (at 6,7GB out of 2,4), but the phone was already running global version of MIUI just fine.

[Question] Partial bricked - Doesn't recognize SIM card, and IMEI

Hi,
I bought Xiaomi Mi 5s with Global Stable ROM 8.2.1.0, and today I entered the official MIUI website to see what's the latest version that is released, in here:
http://en.miui.com/download-314.html
For some reason at the same moment I thought that 8.0.3.0 is higher version than mine (I missed a zero), and I downloaded the ROM installation file to the phone, and installed it through the updater app.
After the install, the phone loaded and didn't recognize the SIM card anymore, also couldn't enter the Network settings, the phone app or the phone status, and from what I read on the internet it probably don't recognize my IMEI anymore...
It also doesn't let me install my previous version (8.2.1.0) because the updater says it's not verified.
I tried to flash again the same ROM that is installed now (8.0.3.0), but it didn't help.
Also tried to do factory reset but I can't because it doesn't recognize the device id...
Is there something I can do immediately to fix this without applying a request to Xiaomi to unlock the bootloader (which I really don't want to do), and also to be stuck without a phone again for a couple of days?
Updater says it's not verified when you install 8.2.1.0? Maybe you got a wrong phone version?

Nope, it's the right one: http://en.miui.com/thread-567657-1-1.html
From what I read over the internet they canceled this update because it has issues, battery drain mostly, but nothing official that I saw.
I'm not sure, but according to a tutorial I found, which is about down grade from miui 8 to 7. You need to have a factory reset to have imei back
By the way, Mi 5s always comes with Chinese ROM, so maybe you have recovery installed already, where u can flash without verify.

No I don't have recovery, probably when it arrives to the stores here they flash official ROM and remove custom recovery (just guessing).
I see I can't avoid unlocking the device, although I don't want to. In my case I down graded from 8.2.1.0 to 8.0.3.0, but I hope that a factory reset will also help after I'll unlock the device.

Wow, bull****, mine came with Global rom, and in xiaomi phones after ~2016 there is like ~1% chance that they will came with recovery and unlocked bootloader

unlock bootloader (developer settings + miunlock tool) and then use miflash to reflash rom

I had exactly the same problem as you last month. All i can do is flashing my phone using deep flash cable. Factory reset does solve this problem, but in my case i cant. When hit reset on settings, i must input mi account password and it did nothing after that. I also cant unlock my phone because i forgot binding my device to mi account in developer settings when still in miui 8.2.1.0.

Sorry, I didn't know they are selling Mi 5s global versions. I thought Mi 5s was only sold in China. I did google it online and it was not sold elsewhere and there was no global rom then.
Update for people who will encounter this issue and will read this:
What solved it in my case, was to send Xiaomi a request to unlock the device, they returned an answer pretty fast (2 hours later), maybe because I wrote them what happened in the request. I unlocked the device using Mi Unlock tool, downloaded a fastboot version of the global ROM I wanted (8.0.3.0) from the official MIUI website, and flashed it using Mi Flash tool, choosing the option "clean all, flash and unlock". After the flashing succeeded, the IMEI was restored and everything is ok, and also the bootloader is locked again like nothing happened.
pretty much what "mezutelni" said to do

global rom flashing on China Redmi Note 5 AI?

Got a new RN5 China version yesterday. It came with 9.5.12A Chinese ROM. I'm going to flash global ROM by myself to get all Google service and debloated. Found some posts here regarding flashing global from 9.5.13. However, have 2 questions now:
1. Someone warned bricked device due to xiaomi new restrictions released recently to prevent flashing global from on Chinese version. I may not be able to flash global from on Chinese version. (Yes I knew it's Chinese version as my the other one has English characters on the box, but this one has all Chinese characters). Is it possible now?
2. Will I get ota after flashing global from if q1 is yes?
If you only needed Google application like play store and used only English, thank look into this thread about Google installer:

Thanks, but I'd like to get rid of Chinese adware as well. The existing global version of note 5 works really well and that's why I bought another one. I got this one China version to avoid waiting time. But sadly xiaomi made things more complicated now. I hope I could flash it without bricking as it's fresh arrived last night. If bricked, money throwing in the water.
Unlock bootloader and flash global stable fastboot ROM.
Yes you will get OTA update
but dont lock bootloader after flashing global ROM
and you have to wait 360 to 720 hours before unlocking the bootloader

Yes you have to flash global ROM which has anti4 or else MiFlash throws error message saying bootloader index value is lesser than the present bootloader index value
And there won't be any chances of bricking a device if you use MiFlash

Question [SOLVED] Downgrade error changing region from 12.0.4.0 EEA to 12.0.8.0 Global, how can I solve?

Hi
I'm trying to install directly, from the phone update menu, from 12.0.4.0 EEA to 12.0.8.0 Global, but when I select the zip file downloaded I get an that says that it's impossible to downgrade.
My phone is actually locked.
Is it possible in other ways?
AFAIK, if I want to use Xiaomi Flash Tools, I have to unlock bootloader, it it correct?

If I understand correctly you can't change firmware region unless bootloader unlocked.
And shouldn't lock bootloader once change region.
I did't know that! This is for a friend of mine phone, with mine I normally leave bootloader unlocked and then I root with Magisk.
In this case, I want just to unlock bootloader, put global version of stock MIUI 12 and then relock bootloader.
I've just done some search and it seems that it can't be done only on chinese stock rom.
But I'm not sure 100%, so just looking to be completely sure before proceeding.
For now, I'm just waiting the 168hrs before taking step 2 of unlocking bootloader.
Thanks
I succeded using XiaomiTool V2, an unofficial app, I've used on Windows 10, but it seems to be available also on Mac.
So, without unlocking the bootloader, now I am on 12.0.8.0 Global.
I received an error at end of the ROM installation (was VERY worried), but then all was ok...
I didn't know this tool, even if I have Xiaomi phones from several years, and it's written by an Italian guy...

Can I flash a global version ROM to a Redmi Note 8 Pro CN version?

Hello all,
As a consequence of a recent OTA update to MIUI 12.5.2, Google Play and Google apps ceased to work on my Redmi Note 8 Pro (begonia) CN version. In order to have them back again, I am considering switching to a stock ROM for the global version of the RN8Pro.
Does this sound like a reasonable plan?
Are there hardware differences between the CN version and the global version of the RN8Pro?
Can I go ahead and flash a global version ROM over a CN version ROM?
Would this allow me to install Google Play and Google apps on the RN8Pro?
Thanks!
You can. You are not asking for impossible. But it will cost you your data as your phone will be wiped in the process.
The procedure is Unlock bootloader -> Flash Global/EEA/Indonesia/Xiaomi.eu ROM (but the guys at xiaomi.eu stopped the development of the ROM long ago, so only ancient version of MIUI is available) OR even a custom ROM (wichever you like). You will find the corresponding tutorial in this device's forum.
@kekesed97: Thanks!
After a one-week wait (Xiaomi imposes this waiting period for bootloader unlocking), I was able to unlock the bootloader and flash a stock global ROM to my RN8Pro. Everything went fine. The phone was working perfectly, with its bootloader still unlocked.
Then I fell into a trap.
After reading about things that would not work on a phone with unlocked bootloader (Google Pay, banking apps, etc.), I decided to relock the bootloader of my RN8Pro. Did that by running "fastboot oem lock" on a PC connected to the phone.
Relocking the bootloader kind of bricked the phone. The RN8Pro is now stuck in the menu for "MIUI Recovery 5.0", with the following message at the bottom of the screen:
"This MIUI version can't be installed on this device"
Is there a way out of this trap?

Some GooglePay and banking apps can be used after pass safetynet by doing something with Magisk. And you should read something about lock bootloader before doing that. China phone only can be locked with China Miui roms, by chose clean and lock on Miflashtool (best way to prevent brick). So if you want to do that, better downgrade to Miui 12.0.x to use Google apps and no more updates. And if anything else you want to be helped, join group on Telegram and get help.

Thanks, @Kirasu2080. Now I see that I should have flashed a MIUI 12.0.x China version ROM, rather than a global ROM.
But I still don't see how to fix things... Since phone is stuck in recovery with its bootloader locked, it appears as there is no way for me to downgrade now.

You need to do the "EDL mode or Test point".
Lock xiaomi devices can be unbricked using that method.
Flash firmware using EDL or Test point mode. Please search in youtube.

Question Beginner with flashing official xiaomi rom on Mi 11 Lite 5G NE

Hello everybody,
I'm new on XDA and installing ROM on phones . I hope my english will be comprehensible.
I've got a Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G NE.
I obtained it with my mobile subscription at SFR (a french provider).
I read on XDA (and on others websites) that the 2 last letters in the version of MIUI in my phone indicates if the ROM is an "official" ROM by xiaomi or if it contains a provider overcoat.
My phone seems to use a provider overcoat.
It has Miui Global 13.0.1 Stable version.
In the details of MIUI Version, it's wrote MIUI Global 13.0.1 Stable 13.0.1(SKOEUSF).
I understand, unless I am mistaken, that the ROM is an European ROM.
The "SF" at the end meaning SFR in my case.
I would like to replace my actual ROM by an official Xiaomi Rom mainly to get the updates faster.
So I have many questions :
How can I do a full backup of my phone to restore it in case of problem ? I read something about a Nandroid backup but I didn't understand everything about it. Is there a good tutorial somewhere to do it ?
I saw that I have to use Mi Unlock tool to unlock bootloader. If I don't do that, I will not be able to change the ROM. Am I wrong ?
If not, where can I download this tool to unlock. I found many sites and I feel lost to find the good one. Is this one is the good to use : https://en.miui.com/unlock/download_en.html ?
Do I need to use a tool like TWRP ?
After that, I have to download the ROM.
I found this one to install an European ROM : https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?device=1900401 in the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE EEA Section on the left. Is it correct ?
To install this ROM, I understand i have to use a tool to flash it.
Where can I download the tool because I found many versions.
I think this one is the good but I'm not sure of that : https://xiaomiflashtool.com/download/xiaomi-flash-tool-20220507.
Finally I found this video (in French). It explains how to proceed to do this ROM changing but I'm not sure if it's the good procedure :
Thanks a lot for your help
Some answers
First, you will need to unlock Bootloader, process will take 168 hours (7 days). Same procedure for all Xiaomi phones, google to find how-to
Be aware that unlocking BL will trigger Factory reset on your phone (hence do the backup in advance)
You need BL unlocked to switch to EEA, and optionally also to install TWRP (Orange Fox or other custom recoveries), custom ROMs or just kernels, root (Magisk)
Following is a useful app to find Xiaomi ROMs for your device:
MIUI Downloader - Apps on Google Play
MIUI upgrade app for Mi users.
play.google.com
Attached is an older doc describing the Xiaomi firmware names
Android backup requires TWRP, hence already unlocked Bootloader.
There is a good app for backup-restore but it requires root (hence already unlocked BL and Magisk installed):
Swift Backup - Apps on Google Play
A simple, fast and smart backup solution for Android smartphones
play.google.com
For unlocking BL you will need MI account - with their account you can also do backup (open Settings and scroll to Mi Account).
Otherwise you have Google account backup...
When flashing with MiFlash, pay attention that you do not relock Bootloader - by default relocking is enabled.
If anything goes wrong and phone would not boot, ppl get bricked phones - since BL was locked, they cannot flash again to fix and they cannot unlock BL since phone does not boot, they have to seek for paid help from authorized EDL accounts
Official TWRP.me does not yet support Android 12. There is an Orange Fox recovery here on XDA that should work with your MIUI 13/A12 (I am intentionally on MIUI 12.5.8/A11 still)
But you don't need TWRP (for switching to EEA, even for installing Magisk if you would wish).
Backup with Swift app is more useful than And round backup in custom Recovery bcs in Swift you can restore only selected apps, etc (Nandroud backup restores everything from the moment when it was backed up)
Useful link:
Xiaomi Firmware Updater
The ultimate script that provides firmware packages for Xiaomi devices.
xiaomifirmwareupdater.com
Btw, for anything (even for unlocking BL) you will need ADB and Fastboot tools on your PC.
Download and install Minimal ADB and Fastboot (find its thread on XDA) or Google Platform Tools
@zgfg,
Thank you for your answer.
168 hours to unlock the bootloader ? It is very long.
So I'm not sure i want to try this if finally it could fail.
I've installed MIUI Downloader but which file(s) must I download : Recovery, OTA, Fastboot, each of them ?
I ever have a Mi Account.
I'm searching for a method very detailed (if it is possible or exist) to change the ROM, but honnestly I'm a little stressed about doing this operation.
I wouldn't brick my phone.

Google about 168 hours - that's Xiaomi measure to make it harder for resellers who buy phones in China, flash them with Global or EEA and sell worldwide
Recovery firmware is only for upgrading while staying with the same locale (Global to Global, etc).
For that you don't need unlocked Bootloader and they install through stock Recovery
To switch from eg CN to EEA, you need unlocked BL, Fastboot firmware and MiFlash
Ok.
Thanks for your answer.
Before starting anything I will try to search a lot of experiences of other owners who did that.
Maybe one day, i'll try
It's only 7 days. Start the unlocking BL process ASAP, during the week learn more and decide what you will do when you unlock BL
Better than to rush and brick the phone
OK. I wil try that.
Another question : to unlock the booloader it runs during 7 days night and days ?

It takes 7 days
You have to 'use the phone', ie it must have SIM card and be turned on
You may turn it sporadically off but they don't allow that you eg buy ten phones, request unlocking Bootloaders with a single SIM for all of them, and then wait 7 days that you can unlock (change firmwares and sell them)
Please understand their point. I cannot tell you how many minutes the phone can be turned off daily or something.
Besides, if you google, you will find a lot about
I have one question regarding to the same topic. Lot of custom roms use recommend to use their own custom recovery for flashing the rom. After flashing the ROM, can another recovery be loaded into the device or can twrp or orange fox be used to flash custom roms even if they recommend to use their custom recover for flashing?

It does not run continiously during the 7 days. You can open the mi unlock app, request to unlock BL. You will see a message telling you to wait for 7 days. Then you can unplug the phone and use it as normal. After 7 days, plug the phone back in and you will be able to unlock BL without problem.

If u have EU phone and u flash TW version and after lock bootloader u brick ur phone. U must have unlocked bootloader. Its not true if u have unlocked bootloader u cant use GPay. I use and everything work. Just flash Xiaomi.eu Pixelos or other customrom with Safemet Pass
I managed flashing TW rom with the stock fastboot. I left it unlocked as I am not sure if I brick it doing so, although in YouTube video shows that you can lock it. Safetynet check suggests to lock bootloader and gpay doesn't work. If someone else hasn't tried it in Mi 11, I cannot trust the guy in YouTube. So the only way is to root and install magisk, but then I miss OTA updates which is something that I need. The phone belongs to my father.
If u lock bootloader with other rom u have bootloop and brick device. Old Xiaomi works but after 2016 or 2018 u cant lock.
Just search a Rom with TW lang and SafetyNet
Thank you my friend you were clear. I don't need TW language, I am Greek. I only needed mi dialer that has call recording. So I must install magisk and flash manually every miui rom update. I believe twrp isn't necessary, original fastboot will do flash magisk's patched boot.img . Can I flash updates without erasing my data every time?
Xiaomi.eu Rom have mi dailer with call recording. Also GPay work well and all apps Mi dont have ads.
