I am looking for two things that I am not sure if they exist or not:
1. Is there any tool/hack/app/magic that will switch to a different wallpaper depending on which home screen you are on at the time?
2. Additionally, I don't see a way to create shortcuts on the home screen that will allow me to launch the app drawer, or to "jump" to a specific home screen.
Does anyone have any ideas if these are possible or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks!
If you're using the (stock) Sense launcher, I don't know of any way to customize the wallpaper on a per (home)screen basis. Not sure if any third-party launcher does. I do know that Launcher Pro lets you disable the wallpaper scrolling.
The little triangle on the bottom left of the curved bar (next to the "Phone" button) opens the app drawer.
The stock launcher, besides allowing you to use the HTC widgets, offers practically no customization.
I've been using Launcher Pro for the last week, and have been very happy with it (disclaimer: if you've updated Qik, your default launcher setting frequently goes into the bit bucket (at least with the updates before the latest, which I have not tried). ADW Launcher is also very good, but I was getting intermittent force closes with it.

Ah, yes. Forgot about that one...
Launcher Pro also does that, and you can also do a double-tap of the home button in Sense, for the same function.
ADW will let you assign that function to an up or down swipe on the screen, along with (or) some other choices.
Cheers,
-Jerry
adw allows you to assign a 'swipe up' and 'swipe down' command. i use them to access my preview screen (ie: see all desktops) and to show/hide notification bar.
great tool. lots of fun options to muss with.
regarding your questions
1) i dont think so. i think of it was one wallpaper covering 5 workspaces. not 5 different desktops.
2) try adw
Any webOS user knows how you can simply use your finger to swipe up from the gesture area to pop open the app drawer. I think this would be a fantastic feature for any ICS phone in order to access the multitasking view.
I would gladly sacrifice 2-3 rows of pixels on the bottom of the screen in order to implement such a feature.
Of course this mod would render the actual button obsolete, I'm not sure what to replace it with.
Any devs wish to take on this project? I don't think it would be impossible to pull off.
NOVA Launcher has swipe gestures and will do what you are asking for.

Will it work from within any app? Not just the home screen? I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing.
Oh, no. Not from within any app. Like you said from the home screen.
However, you can use WaveLauncher to open the app drawer from within any app. I love WL, couldn't go without it.
EDIT: You could also try this.
GestureControl is pretty much what I wanted... very nice
Now what do I replace the multitask button with?
Good deal. I know with AOKP you can change and rearrange your soft keys, but I don't think there is an app that does this, although that is a good idea! There are also some mods for this in the theme section but I think you have to be de-odexed.
Wasn't the web os launcher ported to android in the market called wave launcher? I tried it before and it worked identical, from any app too.
I don't understand... LMT allows you to do any type of gesture to pretty much do anything, from ANY app...
Yeah here it is, even has the stretchy animation and all just as web os does.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobilemerit.wavelauncher
As someone mentioned, LMT would work perfectly for you!
This is my first idea for anything smartphone related so please do not flame me or call me names! Okay. So my my idea is for a launcher design, and maybe an OS later, where the idea of Windows OS and IOS come together under Android software with a custom GUI never before seen. This is going to be very hard to explain since I just got this off the top of my head; Basically the UI is 'Circular' and fluid while requiring less clicks and menus through the entire phone compared to all the other operating systems. Here's an example, The dock is scrollable to the left/right and when scrolled you see these options:
1. (Home Screen) Menu-Home-Return, 2. (Notifications) Instead of reach up to the top of the phone the bar slides up, 3. (Phone) Phone-Contacts-Message-Internet, 4. (Camera) Camera-Editor-Video
To make the UI more fluid and smooth the 'Open" action for these apps isn't to click them, like a button, but to slide them up from their position on the dock. Like so, 1App / 2App / 3App Grab the number 2 app and slide up which it then opens like a vertical page(imagine windows 7 mobile unlock screen) except that it directly opens the app like it was waiting there the whole time to be opened.
The second part is the "app drawer" which is non-existent in this launcher, like in IOS, because the home screen serves as a widgets / app drawer where the apps are accessed by sliding down the dock, which leaves a button to return the dock, and then sliding left and right.
The neat part is that the "Real" home screens are seemingly connected to the app drawer. To put it basically, if the dock is up and you swipe the screen you are swiping through the home screens. If you lower down the dock nothing on the screen changes, except the dock, and then if you swipe you're suddenly in the apps/widgets.
To place a widget on the screen you swipe it up to the screen selection, you select a home screen by scrolling horizontally through a bar above the widgets and the apps, in which it "loads up" your selections into something I call a "Case" where it stores the apps and widgets for that specific home screen until you're down selecting and tap the home screen. After you enter the screen the "Case" slides up from the bottom, with the dock on top to keep the dock usable, and then you can place the items one by one specifically.
To adjust the size of the widgets or X items touch and hold the item and then pinch outwards to expand.
I have more of this design in my head but I want to know what you guys, and gals, think of this launcher and/or OS.
Sounds cool, but I like my app drawer. Lol. That's the main reason I don't use MIUI.

Thanks for reading my post! =] Everyone on here thinks they're too good to post on such an insignificant thread. lol
I agree with you about the app drawer actually that's why I mentioned the "seamless" integration of the app drawer with the home screens.
In my honest opinion I'd prefer a full renovation of the android layout to give it some new life.
No problem. I'm always interested in what ideas people have, and yours sounds really nice, but also very deep in the android framework.

oastval bellum,
Even I was thinking of something similar and tried to find on net but there isnt anything like it. I like the idea of just sliding the homescreens into app drawer and then coming out to quick settings like the ones motorola has, and then back to homescreen completing a circle. In MIUI it gives an iOS feel but a transition to black background for App drawer like windows UI with the sliding effect would look awesome. kinda like meego effect...
Do tell if you find anything like this or lets just cook up one of our own...
I would try it!

SSLauncher
Hey,
Did you find/make anything as per your idea?
I found this launcher SSLauncher which is really cool
lets you do a lot of stuff. Give it a try maybe. You might be able to fill a lot of your requirements. There are like wild home screens that people have created with it.
hi, i was just wondering if its possible to make google now my home screen. i realized i don't need a launcher because i have a ton of apps and instead of swiping through my drawer i often find myself just typing in the app in the search bar. With the new swype keyboard in 4.2 its much quicker to launch an app that way, i also put my dock apps in my lmt launcher and don't use widgets except for the search bar of course. so has anyone figured out how to make google now their HS? i would love for it to just open when i press home and open right after unlocking the lockscreen.
No launcher = no Android
Closest you could manage would be a single launcher page with a clock widget that looks like Google now plus some minor themeing.
Lets tweak your idea and make it a widget for Now, that would be pretty sweet.

yeah ive tried it but im looking to just make google now the home launcher not just something that looks like it. does anyone know if i can remap the home button to just open google now?
With a custom launcher i think you can. For example i'm using nova launcher, and under the gesture and behavior menu you can choose the home button behavior with several action and all you app. The only thing i'm not sure about is if you can set only an app or even an app's activity (like is gnow)...
If you want an app drawer on your edge screen use this....
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=JakedUp.AppDrawer&hl=en
It should of been an option from stock... Just add it to your quicklauunch edge screen.,
It works great with a secondary launcher if you wanna hide the dock on the homescreens.
Note: Hold the menu button within the app to change settings and font.

Thanks! I Just changed dpi to 300 with Xposed App Settings and it looks pretty good too!
Thanks for posting, but the drawer takes forever to load and can't be customized. There are much better options available.

Hi. That's weird. Mine comes up immediately. For customization you need to open the app drawer and then do a long press of recent apps to get to a menu to select settings. Then you can change fonts, background color and such. What are some of the better options available? Always interested in checking out new apps! Unity launcher is nice in that you can set up shortcuts (including floating windows with the use of the app "floating window shortcuts")

I mentioned holding the button in the OP. Thanks for reposting though. Thought it was a bad omission on Samsung's part.
Yeah didn't know about the paid one either, but hey its what this forums for, right? Mine is quick as well. Easy to customize.
I'am looking for a way that i can make on my home screen 5x5 for my icons.
Is this possible and what i can used for it.?
Ehhh... Is there a way to just have a "system" friendly shortcut icon to launch the app drawer? In other words, I already use a nice launcher app and I like its look and want to just open my app drawer to be the same as when I open it using the android app dock, not having this whole miui layer...
Currently using Next Launcher, but the launcher I use is irrelevant, I just want a system level call to open my normal app drawer rather than have an entire app represent the drawer. Another UI to manage is not what I want, as it is unaware of theme or font changes.
Isn't there a way to simply make a shortcut icon and put it in my edge bar.????????

Have you tried or are willing to use a replacement launcher? I use Next Launcher which lets you control the icon grid spacing both on the home screen desktop and in the app drawer plus let's you have fine pixel resizing of widgets (widgets normally only resize in blocks spaced as wide as your icons, but this app lets you resize widgets pixel by pixel for finer control)
Many launchers also offer this flexibility not just the one I mention. Check them out! I hope I understood your question properly! (Next launcher also let's you change the icon look, the screen transition animation, and many other things. It looks great and is compatible with all themes made for Go launcher. Furthermore, it restores touch wiz's lost wallpaper scrolling function! But like all launchers, it does nothing for the look of the edge bar unfortunately, since the edge bar is basically an unsupported hack on the O.S. which has to be programmed for specifically...)

I agree. I would love nothing more to have a shortcut to my 360 Launcher app drawer on the "Edge". The app drawer app the OP provided is fine in a pinch, but nothing beats the app drawer transitions on 360 Launcher.
I have found a not ideal work around, which is to use the gesture shortcuts in Next Launcher so that whatever homescreen I'm on, I just swipe up to open my app drawer. However my ultimate goal is to be able to open the apps from the edge bar.. Why is this so important?
Because, the whole killer app feature of the edge bar, which I keep stressing to people who ask what the point of it is, is that I can open or switch to other apps from whatever app I'm in without exiting to the home screen first or scrolling through the recent apps.
My workaround still doesn't allow this.. But it DOES allow me to completely hide the dock bar at the bottom and have a FULL screen of widgets on my home screen. Which is pretty
I now have all my most used apps on the edge bar so I no longer need the android app dock on the bottom. It's really pretty and ergonomic.
