Get the Korea out of my phone! - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I recently bought a used SM-G960N. Sine getting it I have perfomed factory reset, as well as changed location and languages options but for some reasons some items still come up korean.
For example, the weather app is in korean, and can only add korean cities.
Or when I press the microphone key on the keyboard I get a korean keyboard.
Please help me, all i want is english.
Thanks
Magickz81

Thank you for raising this question, Magickz81
I have the same issue, but with a SM-G965N
Is there a way to get rid of the Korean thing? Maybe we have to use a Factory Firmware from another country?
And the Camera does not have option to remove the shutter noise. I believe that that is another Korean feature.

You can flash firmware from another country using Odin. There are many ways of obtaining such firmware, you can use SamFirm which I think still works.
Then you'll need a modified version of Odin that skips the model check, there are various versions on XDA and elsewhere. Then flash the firmware using Odin, there are many tutorials.

Wind / Mobilicity Users, Please Help

I'm looking for the original BUILD.PROP File.
For whatever reason when returning to stock in ODIN, the phone reverts to VTR (Videotron) and the menus are in French. Even when connected to Kies the phone is identified as VTR. All three firmwares obtained through CheckFUS (GLW-MCT-VTR) are identical. (The VTR version)
Even after manually setting Keyboard to English, certain applications continue to return to default French. I assume this is built into there rom? Beside the point. All flashes were full wipes through TWRP including system and internal storage.
I am very confused. Thanks for any help in providing that file.
Bump
**Bump**
Come on, it's a tiny little file. No one here in Canada can help me solve a legitimate problem?
Anyone?
Can't you ODIN the WIND/MOBILICITY firmware on? Maybe root the phone and flash T-MOB then go back to ODIN to stock for GLW/MCT
Yep

Done it, TMO installed, Flash back to stock via ODIN. Banm! Videotron, and in French. As I said all three Roms are identical. I just need to get the Build file to see if Kies will pick it up as Mobi or Wind.
Does anyone have that file? Of course!
Will anyone bother to help?:silly:

[Q] Radio not working in custom ROM I9082

I bought I9082 from China Unicom (which I believe is firmware locked).
I tried to upgrade the firmware manually through ODIN.
But in ODIN it stops at setup connection
<ID:0/006> Odin v.3 engine (ID:6)..
<ID:0/006> File analysis..
<ID:0/006> SetupConnection
<ID:0/006> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Then I rooted with CWM and loaded Custom ROM.
Later I upgraded a custom rom - XXAMD6 on baseband ZNMAMB3.
But the problem now is Radio is switched off. So the mobile is not active.
When I try to make a call it says Flight mode is activated. But really flight mode is switched off.
I am able to receive calls and messages
Do you have any solution for this.
Does this mean the firmware is locked?
Any possibility that I can revert back to original stock ROM I9082ZNAMB3
I have this stock ROM downloaded but could not load this through ODIN (seems there is some lock since it stops at setup connection in ODIN).
Any possibility that this stock ROM can loaded through CWM?
My phone is kind of half-bricked since I couldn't make any call also not able to upgrade.
Please give me solution.

you may experience "no service " after rom installation here is what u do to get it back...
its a modem compatibility issue in between different firmwares
download the file from http://www.mediafire.com/?avjo48kvgz517z5 or http://d-h.st/7O8 NEW MODEM LINK
put ur mobile in download mode VOLUME DOWN + MENU + POWER then VOLUME UP to continue
connect to pc
(ur kies should not be runing... proper drivers should be installed)
start odin3 v3.04 . u should see the blue comxx as phone is connected
autoreboot and reset time should be selected.
click in PDA . select the modem.amc8.tar
click start...wait....u get pass confirmation..phone may boot into recovery just reboot.
JUST leave the feedback on this... it worked for me....so it may work for all of u.
Hi, I could not download any file through Odin. I tried pushing the modem file already. Do you think there is any firmware lock?
During setup connection it stays for long time and then it says failed.
Any modem MOD file to push through ClockworkMod I can try.

Any solution to unlock this carrier locked phone without buying the unlock tools?
mr_coimbatore, I'm having exactly the same problem with a China Unicom I9082 here in Shanghai. Sadly I still haven't been able to find a solution, after weeks of searching.
It's actually a friend's phone, he bought it because he wanted a dual SIM Android handset, though foolishly bought it straight from Unicom rather than from an electronics market. I told him I'd get rid of the China Unicom firmware for him as it is obviously crippled by design like all Chinese Android stock ROMs. I've managed to install k2wl's Ultralite ROM on the handset but I'm facing the same issue as you - the baseband remains untouched from the one that was on the original ROM (I9082ZNAMB3), but it's stuck in flight mode. Can receive calls/texts, cannot make them.
The big clue that there is some kind of lock in place is the fact that one of the original Chinese logos still appears on boot. Flashing a custom ROM should remove all the stock boot logos.
I get exactly the same error when trying to update the baseband with Odin (I tried several basebands and all had exactly the same error as the one you quoted in your first post), so it seems that what we have here is a baseband lock combined with an incompatibility between the existing baseband and the custom ROM (or, more likely, any ROM that isn't the stock ROM provided by China Unicom). If we can remove the baseband lock and update the baseband to one that is compatible with the custom ROM, we should be in business. Sadly, that's as far as I've got.
The annoying thing is that the SIM cards being used on the phone are both China Unicom, so it's not as if I even need the phone to be factory unlocked for use on any network - I simply need it to be able to make outgoing calls/texts on Unicom!
I have seen sites offering an unlock service by IMEI, for example unlocksamsungonline.com, who claim to provide both NCK (network unlock codes) and SPCK (service provider unlock codes), which seem to be what we need in order to unlock the phone without expensive equipment.
However, I have no idea how genuine/reliable these kinds of sites are or if they even work at all (or if they're even legitimate at all), and I'd rather not spend $18.95 USD on an unlock code that doesn't end up working. Also, given that it's a dual SIM phone it's going to have 2 IMEI numbers, so I'm not sure if I'd have to pay double to unlock it or if just one would do the trick!
I've not yet had the time to take the phone to an electronics market in the hope that somebody there understands the issue and has the equipment to remove the baseband lock. In almost all of my previous experiences with electronic markets here in Shanghai, I've found that their hardware knowledge is fantastic (not surprising given that the phones are made in China), but their software knowledge is generally quite poor. I actually spent almost an hour one day explaining to an iPhone engineer that he could in fact upgrade an iPhone's software while preserving an (unlockable) baseband, simply by making a custom ISPW with Pwnagetool or similar that would flash the new firmware without flashing the baseband. He and several of his coworkers claimed that it was impossible, and when I showed them my iPhone that was running the updated iOS while still on an old baseband, until I managed to explain the entire process he thought I had hacked the phone somehow to display a different baseband version... the whole experience was incredibly frustrating and to be honest has left me thinking that I can probably find out more online whenever I've had any kind of software issues with any devices.
Anyway. If you happen to have some success before I do, please let me know! I'll do the same.

Hi, Yes I found the solution.
Thanks to tonylin880806 who provided me some links.
I am in Shanghai as well. I took my phone to electronics markets in Xujiahui and Zhangyang Road. In both places, every one said they cannot do anything. The reason may be they don't know or do not want to take any risk or bricking the phone.
Also I went to Samsung service center, they said I have void my warranty. I asked them only to restore the original firmware. But he said the only option is to change the CPU and that will cost more money. I asked for alternate options and he said no.
Then, I re-explored the posts asked if Tony has send me an option
At first, you should upgrade ZNAMB3 to ZNAMD1 with Odin. ZNAMD1 is the office OTA upgrade for ZNAMB3 sent by Samsung.
You can use below link for ZNAMD1 : http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shar...&uk=3590848074
to download ZNAMD1 which is official and push this through Odin.
So now you will be back with your original firmware without google account.
After this, you can root the phone with CWM.
Then you can load any compatible custom ROMs. But you should note that our handsets cannot load firmwares of all countries. Might be they are firmware locked or modem not compatible for other region firmwares.
I have loaded below custom ROM which is very similar to original firmware with google account. This is really good.
ZNAMD1_rc2 - http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=517042&uk=2030731697
Also, in this your memory card is swapped with internal memory and have chrome browser. USB OTG is missing.
Only problem I face is, when I install google talk apk there is some problem. Whenever I get an incoming notification from google talk, it hangs and it says process.google.com stopped. So I have installed hangout and its ok with hangout now.
Hope this helps you.........

Yeah, the link you posted has the '...' in it, which ruins the URL. It's the not the complete URL. Do you have the full URL to download it on Baidu? It will be much faster than downloading it from another site, as you know from living in China and having to deal with Chinese internet connections
I just want to make sure I'm downloading the correct version. Is this the right one?

Q Installing UK English ROM over Chinese ROM on Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 LTE SM-T325

Hello,
I would be so grateful for any help with the following.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 LTE SM-T325. However, when turning it on for the first time I found the entire interface in Chinese and thus unusable.
I've found the UK English ROM for this device and want to flash it. Can I go ahead and do so given that I'm unable to do anything with the tablet until such time as it's flashed to English? This also means I can't change any settings on the device beforehand.
I am registered blind without access to any sighted assistance at the moment so it is vital that I resolve this issue so I can use the tablet with the TalkBack screen reader in English.
All the best for now and take care and thank you very much in advance for your time and patience.

I also purchased a Hong Kong version of the SM-T325. When you first power up the device you will be presented with a Samsung screen all in Chinese with 2 popup menus. The top menu (located about center screen) is the language selection. From that menu, you can select whichever language you want including UK or US English. You may have to enlist the services of a sighted individual for this 5 second task, but then you would be good to go. Does TalkBack do translation? How about Google Translate in combination with TalkBack? Those might be options.
As far as flashing, I did flash the German ROM, but it caused random reboots of the device. I ended up flashing back to the updated Hong Kong ROM and it's working very well. I have been tempted to flash the UK ROM but I use my device for work and I won't have the opportunity until next week.
If flashing is your only option, what method do you plan on using? I downloaded the German ROM from sammobile.com and flashed it with Odin. When I decided to flash back to the Hong Kong version I just repeated the process with the updated Hong Kong version. I am sure you can do it with the UK ROM. If it causes problems, flash it back.
Also, if you flash using Odin, it flashes everything...ROM, recovery, modem and bootloader. On the German ROM, I had regional issues with the Google Play Store. I would not let me download all of my apps, but for some reason the original Hong Kong ROM did.
It's a lot to consider and I hope you are able to come up with a solution that works for you because the T325 is a very useful device.
Good Luck

Tab-S 8.4 Wi-Fi - Imported model, can I flash it to UK firmware?

Hi
I recently bought a Tab S 8.4, the 16GB variant with WiFi only (T700). I have come to realise that this is an imported model from Hong Kong. It has a "Samsung Chinese IME" input method that I cannot deselect, which I believe may be interfering with External Keyboard Helper Pro when I try to use a UK layout Bluetooth keyboard.
My questions are these, can I flash it with the latest available UK firmware? If I were to do so, would it eliminate that annoying "Samsung Chinese IME" input method? Finally, would having the UK firmware, cause any future OTA downloads to be UK ones too, or would I have to manually update it myself?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
You could download and flash the latest UK firmware here. It should eliminate the Chinese IME (or you could just root and freeze/uninstall it)

Not sure, but given that the UK hasn't had a OTA firmware update for nearly five months now (last release was on 30th June) I don't think it will be a major problem. You can just reflash any new versions using ODIN.
Flashed!!!
I have done the deed. I've flashed my Tab-S 8.4 with the latest UK firmware using Odin.
Because the tablet was new and I didn't really have anything on it that I couldn't reconfigure from scratch, I didn't bother with a Nandroid backup or anything. NOTE to anyone reading this: Skipping backing up is NOT something you should do. I had a good reason to do so. That said, I'd also downloaded a copy of the Hong Kong firmware I already had on the tablet, so that I had it on hand, just in case.
I expected to have to reconfigure the tablet from scratch, but this has proven to not be the case. It's remembered all my apps and settings and accounts and things. So all in all it's gone very smoothly.
The "Samsung Chinese IME" input method is now history. Now I have to go check out whether that has cured my problem with EKH Pro.
I also installed Kies3 to see what it would make of my firmware configuration, and to see if it would try suggesting that I should go back to the Hong Kong one. It didn't. It said my current UK firmware was the latest available. Of course, this isn't a concrete indication that I will get OTA updates of UK firmware in the future by any stretch of the imagination. That will only be proved once the next update comes down from Samsung. Needless to say I won't be letting it update itself until I've made sure it's a UK firmware.
Thanks for your help.
Reflashing my firmware to get rid of the "Samsung Chinese IME" input method has not helped me get EKH Pro working. I am, however, still happy that I'm on the right firmware for my country.
I now have another line of enquiry about EKH Pro, and I think this time it is correct one for the problem I'm having. But I won't go into it here.
Firmware on ATT SM-T707A
Hey guys, just picked up an ATT Tab S 8.4. Loved my bronze 8.4" and thought having LTE would be cool. I was wondering if it's possible to flash an official stock firmware for the T705 to remove the ATT bloat and enable the dialer. I recall doing this on the original Galaxy Tabs with UK firmware but cannot find much info on the S. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

UK Three stock ROM

Does anyone know where to get hold of the UK stock ROM.
P2a42_S056_161130_uk
Made the rookie mistake of not backing up before change to the stock Row rom.
Could do with this too, the Row rom is proving to be really buggy and unstable despite factory reset. I've read it's difficult to downgrade though?
4GB Super Voice
I would also like a copy of this, I think the stock firmware contained settings for 4G Super Voice which made 4G reception better. - three.co.uk/Discover/network/4G-Supervoice
I am finding myself on HSDPA allot more since going to the ROW ROM.
On the stock Three firmware there were no settings for VOLTE/4G super voice.
I flashed the ROW firmware and it been running really well. No crashes, no bugs and the 4G reception is very good.
There are also now settings inside the network settings for "Enhanced 4G voice" or something along those lines which is VOLTE/Super voice.
However it doesn't appear to work and it still switches to 3G to make calls.
Because the UK is better than the ROW rom? They are the same with the only difference than the stock Three UK rom has a preinstalled bloatware!
My only reason is that my LG urbane on aw 2.0 connected fine with that ROM, But does not seem to the ROW Rom.
If i could get a resolution for that i would be happy, but can't seem to get any other advised than reset both and try again, which has been done a few times.

Which bloatware?
All I found were the 3x Three apps. My Three, Three in Touch and another one which I can't remember (Three suggestions or something).
They can just be uninstalled if you don't want them.
I need this too as my device has to go in for service. Anyone have access to the stock Three UK firmware?
The nougat update.zip file in developer section is an official firmware i was using it for about 2 months untill i rooted. Now i am using the Nougat deodexed version which is also the same rom but with a few tweaks here and their and all bloat removed and i seem to get volte in even more locations now.

Thanks, but the Three UK FW is customised. need this version installed before I send for service.
oh sorry i didnt realise it was for sending in for service what happened?
Actually, I have resolved the issue now but I still would like the FW for the future if anyone has access to it. As for the problem had: I foolishly set the band to USA in the service menu. This made it impossible to make calls or connect to a 2G/3G network. I tried resetting the handset, rolling back to MM, upgrading back to N but nothing resolved the issue until I came across a post earlier today on an old Moto thread. A simple modem erase using ADB resolved the issue. All back to normal now. Phew!
Anybody got a link to this firmware ?
