Can't get unlock data XT1789-5 Retail - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

I'm trying to unlock the bootloader of my cousin's Moto Z2 Force, but when I run fastboot oem get_unlock_data, the process "hangs" and nothing appears on the screen. Typing fastboot getvar all only prints this on the screen:
(bootloader) kernel: uefi
(bootloader) version-bootloader: MBM-3.0-nash_retail-43c7c77-190920
(bootloader) product: nash
(bootloader) board: nash

(bootloader) ram: 6GB SAMSUNG LP4x DIE=12Gb M5=01 M6=06 M7=00 M8=0E
(bootloader) cpu: MSM8998 2.1 (4)
And then it also hangs. I left it half an hour already and it looks like the bootloader stops the command from getting through. Any help? I've already done this process with a G7 Power (ocean) and it successfully displays all the info. I'm using Manjaro Linux with default android-tools and drivers.

Same problem here and same results. The problem might occured due to the cid: 0x0032. Probably, it would be cid: 0x0000 to be unlockable.

So I followed the standard instructions for this process and successfully unlocked the bootloader for my phone.
I followed these instructions, starting with the process for getting a phone unbricked because I'd already been stuck in a bootloop from following some other instructions. I also seem to have issues using fastboot at all. It behaves differently when issuing the same command. GetVar All cannot retrieve all variables succesfully.

I'm currently trying to exploit the QCOM diagnostic port utilities discussed in droidsavvy.com/unbrick-qualcomm-mobiles/ but I'm worried since I can't really get it to show up and I don't think EDL mode is working properly.
One weird thing is that I was actually able to get it to boot by using fastboot boot on a boot img. and instead of saying it was corrupt it actually made it to "Pixel has encountered an error" infinite crash loop. Seemed useless.
Summary: OEM unlock is disabled, need to enable it by booting and changing dev, settings. Cannot boot to change dev. settings as "corrupt and cannnot be trusted." Note that before locking the bootloader, it booted just fine, just had no baseband. Since OEM is now locked, I fear this is insurmountable but I haven't given up yet. I just don't understand why having the bootloader locked is the reason why I can't boot, but it's also why I can't flash to stock. From the bootloader, all other boot options, recovery, factory, QCOM all take me to the "your device is corrupt blah blah" dead-end. Quirks-- I think I put the wrong firmware on it, which is why I am able to boot with the image from the 05 firmware folder, but I get the Pixel Setup has stopped loop forever. This one is fun since it actually does seem to let me get to a black "desktop screen" and I can use the flashlight, bluetooth possibly, and tap around at a blank screen. The boot img from firmware 04 can't get past the TMO splash.

Phone only vibrates, no display, no led

Hello
2 years back I dropped my phone in water.
It recovered though and working properly, but last month I saw sometimes the screen flashes sometime while touching the display.
After someday it is completely dark, the touch was working as I can unlock my phone and receive calls by guessing the positions on my screen, and sometimes it shows the display with a hazy screen. So I tried to order a display to replace, but it was not possible during lockdown.
So I was using this > scrcpy-control-android-on-pc
to backup my things and other, while waiting for the new display.
But then after 2 days the phone was rebooted and goes completely dark.
No led while charging, it only keep restarting (only vibrates as I can not see anything on my screen)
I tried many key combinations >>
vol up + vol down + power : long vibration and blue led
vol down + power: while USB connected to PC fastboot devices appeared
here is the fastboot getvar all

As you can see the bootloader is locked, I never flashed anything to this device.
So how to recover from this?
Thanks in advance.
Maybe your phone got into the emergency download mode, try reflash firmware.
Also similar thing happened to me, phone water dropped and vibrates, black screen. I disassembly the phone and dried. It worked. (Also I have same blowned pins, cleared them and it worked, no idea how worked tho)

Fastboot working improperly on xt1789-04 engineering

Since I saw that the Moto Z2 force was able to be rooted, and I had just killed my Z force, I figured I'd go ahead and order a new one on ebay.
First thing I tried was to get the bootloader unlock data.
The issue with this however was that the command wasn't running properly. It gave me unknown command. So I retyped it and tried it again and it told me I was running an engineering sample.
The problem here is that I had to, and have to, run a command multiple times for it to execute properly. Looking in the bootloader logs shows that the command is executed, but part of the last command is appended at the end to make the next command as long as the previous command. if the previous command was smaller than the next command, it's truncated.
Has anybody else experienced this? Is there a workaround, or is it due to my engineering sample phone?

With IMEI and the serial blurred of course
I seem to have fixed the problem.
For anybody else searching for this thread, the solution was to use a different computer. Even after reinstalling fastboot and the drivers for my device, it continued to occur. However, after switching to my laptop everything works properly.

You have an engineering model, the bootloader is already unlocked, to my understanding.
Code:
(bootloader) securestate: engineering
This is a device designed for testing not normal use.
You need to be very careful, your device does not have consumer firmware.
The standard Moto firmware likely will not work correctly.
The Engineering firmware likely is not available.
This device might be rootable but if something goes wrong you have very few options to fix it.
I would try booting Twrp https://dl.twrp.me/nash/
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-nash.img
and see if you can do a full system backup
You may have to disable the pin/password... if twrp decryption doesn't work.
if booting does not work you can try flashing twrp but there may not be any going back to stock boot.img after that.
I don't have specific knowledge of Nash, this based on several conversions with owners of other moto engineering devices.

It did actually come with retail firmware, but fastboot is in engineering and the bootloader cannot be relocked. Certainly a new experience for me. I got lineage running on it with magisk to hide from GPay. Works like a charm now!

XT1952-1 boot.img issues

Hi!
I'm new here, and some threads have been helpful already. However, I wonder if trying other different approaches might make the issue more complicated than it needs to be. Also, this isn't urgent, and I'd rather do it right than fudge around more than I already have..
I'm currently stuck with a "bad key" in the top left corner when booting the phone. I can still boot into bootloader and fastboot detects the device. I've tried overwriting the boot.img with a variety of variants, hoping it would work out, but alas it has not. I can boot into TWRP (phone wouldn't accept TWRP install from the start, but that's okay) but when I attempt to flash a LOS zip via sideload, it returns some errors.
I had originally installed a LOS + MicroG variant, which was working great, and then wanted to lock the bootloader. Well, and here I am..
From what I can tell, I shouldn't have to blankflash just yet. However, I'm not quite sure what the easiest path out of this pickle is. Thoughts?
Edit: I should add LMSA returns an issue when attempting to download software for the device. I tried setting it to a different XT variant, and it correctly recognizes the device, but then returns an "improper settings" message, if I remember right.

Hi!
I'm new here, and some threads have been helpful already. However, I wonder if trying other different approaches might make the issue more complicated than it needs to be. Also, this isn't urgent, and I'd rather do it right than fudge around more than I already have..

This should be your firmware
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/channel/official/TIMIT/
XT1952-1_CHANNEL_TIMIT_9.0_PPY29.105-134_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
There are newer versions like this Android 10
XT1952-1_CHANNEL_TIMIT_10_QPYS30.52-22-8-9_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
I would start with the version you have.
Download the firmware, unzip, find the flash.file.xml, open it with a text editor, copy, and paste into the online flash.file convertor, link in my thread.

Thanks! I'm trying it now.
I do get "(bootlaoder) is-logical:system_a: not found" (or a corresponding similarity) for almost every line. Also, boot.img still returns a "bad key" during flash.
Device reboots, and I get a "bad key," but it reboots into the operating system.
That should allow me to reinstall LOS, or at least I can try and see if it'll do so.

Bad key is pretty common for moto devices with unlocked bootloader, usually just means the boot.img isn't signed the way it expected.
Okay. 18.1 + MicroG running again. I'm also getting the N/A on boot again, as I did last time.
Big thanks for that! I had been plucking the boot.img out of of zips in the expectation that it would eventually work. Didn't realize I needed to flash the whole system.
I found myself in this mess because I wasn't able to properly lock the bootloader. Unless there are specific suggestions on what I should try or do better, I'd just leave it open. It bugs me a little, but it's not a huge issue.

Moto's must be completely stock to Relock the bootloader, and even then it can be tricky.
Okay. What I take away from that is that it's difficult, if not impossible, to re-lock the bootloader of a Motorola loaded with Lineage?

Do not lock a moto device with a custom rom, unless you don't want it to work ever again.
