Along with TWRP, you're best to get the bootloader unlocked from Xiaomi. I did this with my mi max, Xiaomi approved and I unlocked with their tool. Basically, miui may screw up with OTAs and TWRP in the future, so best to move from miui if you can.
From that point on, you're free to use the tools you wish. I'd recommend nigel's 7.1 unofficial ROM.
So the sequence would be :
1. Unlock bootloader with Xiaomi.
2. Download nigel's / other ROM and modem firmware, Gapps, and Magisk to the SD card.
3. Reboot to fastboot mode
4. Install TWRP with adb recovery command from your computer
5. Restart in bootloader / TWRP mode.
6. Wipe everything but the SD card.
7. Install the ROM, the firmware and gapps
8. Restart into regular system and setup the new ROM
9. Restart in bootloader / TWRP mode
10. Install Magisk
Boom...you now get regular OTA, have Magisk and substratum can be installed as well.
I'm trying to install magisk on MiA2Lite with january update but I fail.
I've tried
- Zip installation (Magisk Manager -> download .zip) but when I reboot on TWRP i don't find zip, all folders seems empty
- upgrade boot image: the upgrade semmes works well but when I restart MiA2Lite and I open Magisk Manager I alway see "Magisk is not installed" ed if I tap on INSTALL Magisk Manager propose: "download zip or upgrade boot img"..
the option "direct install (recommended)" dosn't apear to me

If you want to install magisk from TWRP:
-Put the magisk.zip on your fastboot folder,
-Boot to TWRP and connect the phone to your PC, then use this code :
Code:
adb push ./magisk.zip /sdcard
-Now, you will be able to see magisk.zip on the Install section of your TWRP. Make sure to rename the magisk installation zip to "magisk.zip"
If you want to install without TWRP:
-Get patched_boot.img for 10.0.3.0 here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi...hed-boot-img-v10-30-0-january-update-t3891331
-Put the img in your fastboot folder, shutdown your phone.
-Go into fastboot mode on your phone (hold Vol- and Power)
-Connect phone to PC and write this on ADB:
Code:
fastboot boot patched_boot.img
-Let it download the img to the phone then unplug and wait for it to boot.
-Install Magisk Manager and tap Install->Direct Install

I assure you that if I would have preferred to find the information myself rather than wait for some kind user to answer me. Unfortunately it is not so simple, there are many double posts with information missing (you imagine a new user who wants to try to install the GCam, there are several posts on the subject with redundant or sometimes opposite information, there are two posts on how to install Magisk without losing the OTA, they are almost identical but in one there is written that with Pie no longer works, in the other no ..). Look for an info here with the search function is anything but simple so thank you for answering me so exhaustively!

Bro.. i'd like to ask
So the diffrence/concept is , if
- with twrp we dont need patched boot.img
- without twrp (we need patched boot img)
Are we can flash stock rom via twrp? So dont need fastboot anymore? At least fastboot for emergency case only
And last why right now is so much step in order doing mod, last time i doing mod with my samsung galaxy grand 2, the key is only how to install custom recovery (cwm or twrp) , from that recovery if we want to install custom rom or root , just download zip , flash from custom recovery, enjoy.... Simple
Why in this phone not like that, especially install GSI rom ( which still im not clearly about GSI and difference with custom rom)

You can't flash stock ROM with TWRP, unless you use a backup of your own stock ROM, then you can recover your backup to install stock. Also you're talking about 6 yr old phone. Many things have changed since then on Android lol. GSI means Generic System Image which means that these roms should be able too boot on every device with treble support. Instead of creating a rom from scratch for every device, they just make a GSI and that can be installed on every GSI supported (project treble enabled) phone. You can still install TWRP and flash what you want. But beware you might have issues and Mi A2 Lite doesn't have any custom ROMs yet, because it is project treble enabled. You can use GSIs for now but most of them lag so I stick with stock. You can try modding the stock rom with magisk etc. :good:

Remove screenlocks 1st to make things easy.
Download twrp 3.3.1.0 img and zip
Download magisk 19.3
Copy twrp zip and magisk zip to sdcard
Open a cmd prompt and enter the following
PHP:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot (drag n drop twrp img here)
Once twrp is booted install magisk and reboot to system you should be rooted. *If you want twrp installed as your recovery, install the twrp zip 1st then install magisk
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/how-to/oreo-nougat-how-to-root-z2-t3756669 works for pie as well. Be sure to use the latest TWRP.

Had the same issue, i came back to global 12.0.10....
Don't know if you guys still need help. Just updated today and after struggeling a lot I found the solution.
1. Download the TWRP from here --> https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...r-mi-10t-mi-10t-pro-redmi-k30s-ultra.4187427/
2. Don't flash TWRP just boot into it from Fastboot --> fastboot boot <twrp.img>
3. Use OTG pendrive to install xiaomi.eu ROM - without any wipe.
4. After install do a full wipe in stock recovery.
if you need root follow the optional steps below:
1. Download the latest Magisk Image here --> https://magiskmanager.com/
2. Boot into TWRP again (don't install it)
3. Flash Magisk .zip
4. Reboot
Good luck!

Thanks a ton, bro - you saved my device: I was not able to boot after trying the steps mentioned in XIAOMI.EU thread and portals. Even I was not able to flash and boot any other ROM after trying the EU ROM - NOT EVEN STOCK ROMs THROUGH MI FLASH TOOL OR RECOVERY TOOLS - I had already lost hope and then finally found your reply and thought of trying this and VIOLA!! IT WORKED There is an issue related to partition security due to which it's throwing error and not allowing to flash ROMs as easily as it used to be earlier..... NOW for custom ROMs, I guess we need to follow all the steps mentioned in Mi 10T PRO ROOT-CUSTOM ROM thread and bypass the security by flashing some additional files.
As of now, I am happy that I was able to boot and that too directly to the EU ROM MIUI 12.6 version while the stock was unable to boot through mi flash and recovery tools.

I am trying to get Magisk to work on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T with Lineage OS, but the step where I am patching the boot.img is failing. I am using LOS recovery, and I followed the instructions provided by topjohnwu [1]: because the 8T doesn't appear to have ramdisk (I don't know what that means btw), I need to patch an image (my recovery image?) with the magisk app - this is what I did:
1. Install Magisk App and check status: "Ramdisk: No"
2. Download Lineage recovery image [2] and patch in Magisk
3. Install patched recovery image using fastbook [3]
4. Wipe device and Install LOS + GApps
5. Reboot to system => still says "Ramdisk: No"
What am I doing wrong? How did everyone else root their Note 8T?

install OrangeFox recovery
rename Magisk22.APK to Magisk22.ZIP
install it like any zip in recovery
reboot
(i suggest you do a clean flash to avoid problems)
(yess, RN8 have ramdisk but that's not required for root to work)
After clean flashing the official LOS 17.1, I re-tried to install Magisk giving it every request permission and following steps detailed above by loopypalm but (as before) I'm still seeing "Requires Additional Setup" followed by a "Setup failed" message...
I unlocked the phone recently, set up the latest OrangeFox recovery and flashed new RN8 global firmware v12.0.4.0, Lineage v17.1 nightly 20210405 and pico OpenGapps 20210406. The phone isn't even encrypted (i.e., I've set no fingerprint, pin or pattern).
I tried removing Magisk v22 with the official uninstaller and downgrading to v21.4 with the same result. Then I used the Manager facilities to upgrade both Manager and the underlying Magisk, but still no dice.
I'm scratching my head here about what else to try. Something I noticed that may or may not be related is, while it was working alright before I started setting up Magisk, advanced reboot became really sluggish and failed to reboot to recovery after this (only buttons work).
I'll keep searching and will maybe try a different ROM but this is a real bummer.

i think you should try RRos (it's based on LOS and updated)
i said kernel, so if you have one in mind, that's the step (correct order) you flash it in
(people use "sixteen" for battery,or default "quicksilver" ,or ryzen or ...)
DFE is "Disables dm-verity, forced encryption"

Hi loopypalm, only for curiosity: is there a reason why to wipe /data "again" in step 6 after having formatted /data already in step 4? And furthermore why to format /data for a second time in step 10? What happens to /data after the first formatting that makes these steps recommendable? Thx if you find a minute to explain...
HI , this is what devs been recommending since the beginning (on ginkgo)

me personally i don't think formatting data a 2nd time is necessary
but as for what i think could be the reason is after formatting data you will get a "raw" file system , so the OS will choose the situable file system for it "EXT2" or "EXT4" or ...
that's why sometimes the system wont boot even if you flash DFE
(which (i think) is the case on all ports like ONEUI or OOS ...)

loopypalm,
- Orange Fox, should "Allow modifications" be enabled OR "keep read-only"?
- will latest A11 (anrdoid 11) stable FW (Firmware) also be ok, or is this guide specifically for A10?
Other notes of mine:
- OrangeFox requires device to be unlocked with MiFlash unlocking software first. (It's a type A device it seems, NOT a/b)
