I have a fire tv I'm sending halfway across the country that I'd like to upgrade to fire os 5 so I can preinstall the MUCH better plex app.
Is there anyway to force an upgrade?
Non rooted, currently running 51.1.6.3_user_516012020
Thanks.
Later,

Fire OS 5 for the first generation Fire TV is not out yet. Looks like it will be released in February.
Ok, thanks.

I keep seeing references towards "Fire TV 1, Fire TV 2, ect". I have a Toshiba Fire TV Edition, I can't figure out what version of Fire TV this it's supposed to be, could anyone let me know? Thanks.
The references to "Fire TV 1, Fire TV 2, ect" that you see all refer to the stand-alone boxes and sticks that plug into HDMI ports. Your Fire TV Edition television is none of those "versions." Your Toshiba TV can best be described as the 2nd-generation Fire TV Edition. The 1st-gen Fire TV Edition televisions came out in 2017 and were made by Element and Westinghouse. Your TV is one of the 12 models of Fire TV Edition televisions released in 2018 by Toshiba and Insignia.
Going further, you can split all Fire TV devices into 2 categories: Fire OS 5 devices and Fire OS 6 devices. This refers to their operating system, since the older devices were never updated from Fire OS 5 to Fire OS 6. Fire OS 5 is based on Android 5.1, while Fire OS 6 is based on Android 7.1. To the user, there is really no difference between the two versions of Fire OS.
Fire OS 5 devices are: Fire TV 1, Fire TV 2, Fire TV Stick 1, Fire TV Stick 2, and 1st-gen Fire TV Edition televisions by Element/Westinghouse.
Fire OS 6 devices are: Fire TV 3, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick 4K, and 2nd-gen Fire TV Edition televisions by Toshiba/Insignia.
Funny enough, I literally just submitted a new app I made to the Fire TV appstore called "Informer" that tells you which device you have, its specs, and other info about it, to help people figure out what they own. Assuming it gets approved by Amazon,, it should be in the appstore by Monday.

Thank you. That sounds like a very useful app.

I installed your informer app on my Fire TV, and it's telling me it's;
Fire TV Edition - 2nd Generation - Toshiba HD
Release September 4, 2018
Alias; Fire TV Edition 2 HD, Codename Blanche
CPU AmLogic T950Z
Do you know if this version is rootable? Thanks.

BTW I like your app, it's very useful. Maybe I'm just confused, but under the software tab it lists the 5.x.x.x versions instead of the 6.x.x.x versions, which is what my Fire TV has, and also lists it as Generation 2, but everything else I've found online seems to imply (or I'm mistaken) that Generation 2 is the 5.x and Gen 3 is the 6.x? I dunno, it's pretty confusing tbh, but I think I've figured out that this version is not rootable.
Is here anyone who could share the Apple TV app with me?
Dunno how it is made, but it seems to exist for some Fire OS devices, but not Android as Android.
Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K (2018)
Amazon Fire TV Stick – 2nd gen (2016)
Amazon Fire TV Stick – Basic Edition (2017)
Fire TV Cube (2nd gen)
Fire TV Cube (1st gen)
Fire TV – 3rd gen. (2017)
Nebula Soundbar – Fire TV Edition
Fire TV Edition – Insignia HD (2018)
Fire TV Edition – Insignia 4K (2018)
Fire TV Edition – Toshiba 4K (2018)
Fire TV Edition – Toshiba HD (2018)
And, more important question: Will Fire OS apps work on Android? It's based on it so it's almost one OS, but "almost"...
I'm thinking about Apple One, but I won't move to their ecosystem. Still I would love to watch something using an app, not website on my phone or tablet.

Amazon launched the recent fire tv sticks with Fire OS 7 based on Android 9. The hardware specs for the new devices are almost the same as 4K stick.
I was wondering if it would be possible to flash 4K stick with the Fire OS7, considering the similar H/W specs between the two?

No I don't think it would be possible, I think it's to do with there being a different bootloader.
There is also different hardware involved that would have to be considered as well.
