I've gone to recovery menu and the option to wipe cache partition isn't there. Any ideas?
There is no such option for our device. Delete cache per app in Android or as a last resort factory reset, just backup before.
Good luck!

If I do a Nandroid backup and then do a full wipe/reset and wipe the cache partition and dalvik-cache, will my Nandroid restore the cache's also?
The dalvik-cache will be rebuilt at next boot based on the applications present, so it shouldn't matter. You could clear dalvik now and reboot, and it would just regenerate for you. Some people do that to "clean up" every once in a while, I believe. I think the regular cache is similar, there shouldn't be anything there that can't be replaced (re-cached) when it's needed again.
Even so, I believe they do get backed up because my first boot after a Nandroid restore recently didn't take as long as it would have if the dalvik cache was being rebooted, but that's only an anecdotal answer.
So I've removed some apps thru ADB SHELL and I was informed that it's best to clear cache in Recovery as well. The question is, which option do I select? When I'm in Clockwork Recovery I see two options:
Wipe Cache Partition
or
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Which one am I supposed to select?
Well I decided to go with "Wipe Cache Partition" - not sure if that was the right one but from searching the net it seems like that was the right option - if not then i guess y'all will let me know
Even if u delete all of dalvik system will recompile it upon reboot. If I want fresh slate without a wipe I format both cache and dalvik. Doesn't matter they all rebuild.

Why isn't wiping cache only an option in ROM Manager? Isn't this recommended when flashing ROM upgrades of the same ROM?
Just do it through the recovery. Rom manager is quite buggy when it comes to that stuff.
I'm flashing a new kernel. When you are in recovery to wipe cache and davlik-cache, do you select wipe cache partition? After that screen it just says "Area you sure" with a bunch of no options. When will i see the davlik-cache option?

Click to collapse
you will go into advanced options in the recorvery press the davlik option...it will take a few moments the give you the option to wipe davlik which inturn takes a few moments also.
Hi all,
Somebody can tell me what are the results or issues when you wipe the different caches.
Because on the tutorials, they speak about "wipe cache", "wipe all", "wipe dalvick" and finally when I upgrade or install a new rom to avoid problem, I wipe data, partition an dalvick to avoid problem.
For a new rom, I can understand you need reinstall you apps.
But it's annoying when you update some rom.
Finally, the question is whose cache can be hold or wipe to avoid lost of installed apps and data when you update a rom.
Thanks for your answers.
Fred.
When people say Wipe cache or wipe dalvik, they mean wipe dalvik-cache. However if you wipe data, since dalvik-cache is in /data anyway, it also wipes dalvik cache.
Its wiping data that deletes apps and this is required as data and settings are more often than not, incompatible between different roms.
Its not a big deal if you backup with titanium backlup though and use the restore option "Missing apps with data"
Use sms backup+ or something to backup messages, then you just need to do your system settings again.
who can explain me how I can see where is my cache? on SD or phone...
For what do you need to know this?
SwiftKeyed from dGB with Transparent XDA App
with my H815 i can't boot into recovery (stock) to wipe the device cache. is there any way to this without twrp installed?
EDIT: so i cleared the cache under settings/storage. is there any way to clear dalvik cache without custom recovery? i'm guessing not
Download lucky patcher apk, Grant root permission go to toolbox there's an option to clear DALVIK CACHE
Dalvik Cache can be cleared with Titanium Backup... Settings Storage cleans the apps cache but not the system cache. System cache can be cleaned by power off the phone. With phone off, press the power and down buttons at the same time and a menu will come up.
