Just bought a Pixel 4a 5g from Google and traded in my Pixel 3Xl (battery was starting to go). I got $320 for the trade in. Not bad. $180 plus tax.
Same here now how do we root this thing

I did the same but mine had a cracked screen so I only got $272.50 credit. Still damn good so that's why I upgraded otherwise I'd have kept my 3XL.

Ditto just traded in the Misses pixel 2 and got like 275 for it so not a bad deal at all.

I'm selling my used 32 GB Pixel XL (Google edition) on Swappa. It's got regular wear and a tiny scratch on the screen. I'm not selling it here, just wondering how much would be good to list it for? I'm selling it with the Spigen Case I have.
Idk? Try searching Swappa for how much others are selling theirs for, and adjust from there depending on how fast you want to sell it?
Sorry. New to Swappa. Thanks.

The most recently sold "Good" condition, silver 32GB Pixel XL sold on Swappa for $620. That included a Daydream VR unit, fwiw.

Haha. I'm including a Daydream Headset too. Maybe I'll try that price.
I'm in the market for a phone for under $600. Obviously (and hopefully) the pixel's price should drop once the pixel 2 hits the market. Any idea when this will happen and how much of a reduction we're looking at? Any idea if we'll have an idea after the press conference on Wednesday? I saw a s8 today for $599 with no strings attached from my carrier (T-Mobile) so I'm considering that but also want to see what the price will be for the old pixel.

Once released you should see about a 50% drop in the price.

That's a little high. I would say 35-40% except you go for the refurbished which could be about 50% lower. Don't forget production for the old pixel ceased, all you have left is the inventory and refurbished units.
Now a new resale of XL 128G would be around 500, comparing to USD 869 for a brand new from Google Store.

I'd love if this were to happen. Any idea on when we'd see these reductions based on recent trends? (e.g. the Nexus 6p dropping when the Pixel came out, the S7 dropping when the S8 came out, and so on. When does this usually happen?)

Oooops, saw it wrongly. That was a blue 32G Pixel for 500.
But it seems $500 can buy a mint/good condition Pixel XL 128G.

I scored a brand new never opened 128gb XL from an eBay auction for $605 a few days ago...it even came with the $89 LifeProof case sold on the Google store
So when I pre-ordered my Pixel 2 XL, the site told me my Nexus 6 was worth $0 as a trade-in. Anyone else have this happen to them? Is there any way to negotiate this?
Maybe they got flooded with them and cut trade ins of them off?
I have 6p and they're giving me 150 bucks for it.

if its through VZW, they are of no real value to them.
Even through the google store itself, max is $80 for the 64GB version $70 for 32GB.
They are going for twice that price on swappa, much better off selling it yourself.
Excellent, thanks for the info!

Fantastic. The OP however has a Nexus 6, not a 6P.
I got one even better. 2 months ago I got the ASUS ZenFone AR... Still in new condition... Verizon will only give $50 for trade in LOL... Verizon is a joke...
I'd say 90% of the time you are better off on swappa then trading it into VZW. Although, I got $280 for my Note 4 a few weeks ago.

The 2XL is already priced at $100 off. I ordered one late last week and was discounted $100 at the checkout.

It came to $749 plus tax from the Google store. Amazon shows slightly higher but there are refurbs cheaper and are most likely bootloader locked (no root). Honestly I do not trust Amazon sellers all that much and you probably won't get a two year warranty like Google. I fixed the screenshot in my previous post.

You need to be very sure where he got it from if rooting and unlocking are important to you. If it was any where other than the Google store you won't be able to do that.

Thanks, I will try to check... The phone should be unlocked as it will be used outside of the US... why would rooting be important?

If the phone was purchased on BF then it will be bootloader locked since it was from Verizon. Google didn't have a BF deal. But you might be confusing bl unlock with carrier unlock. You might want to check that. Rooting is only important if you want to modify the device from stock.

It's only important if you want to root it. Let me be more clear. It is SIM unlocked, they all are no matter where they come from.
I was speaking of bootloader unlocking, which is needed only for rooting and modifying. If that isn't important to you, you are all set no matter where it came from.
I just got my pixel 2xl off eBay for $465. It is pretty and fast and a great deal.
Wow that's low. That's with the Labor Day discount going on right?

Tonik, your distinction between bootloader/sim unlock is super helpful to me. It's essential I have a rootable phone, I use my smartphone as my primary internet connection at home with my grandfathered unlimited plan.
Is there a particular model number of Pixel 2 that I should be looking for (in the used market) that would designate is as having come from Google as opposed to one of the carriers? When I rooted my Galaxy S6 (model G920P, which I believe pegs it to Sprint) 3 years ago, I realized too late that there were only very few custom roms for my specific device, and this was terribly disappointing after having come from a Sprint Nexus phone using the glorious Dirty Unicorns rom.

Unfortunately the model numbers are the same. Imei will tell you but the seller isn't going to give you that. Or you can get a pick of developer options from the seller. There is a slider that allows oem unlock. It needs to be blue.
I have Verizon and want to buy a Pixel 2 XL with an unlocked bootloader, refurbished or new. I know I can purchase a new one from the Google store but the price is still $799 for the 128 Gb model. On Ebay they are under $500 now but getting an unlocked bootloader is near impossible because most are Verizon phones. Does anyone know specifically where you can buy one besides the Google store?
Look on swappa for a Google edition Pixel 2 xl. Good prices and they verify the imei to make sure your not buying stolen stuff.

Second vote for Swappa. I've bought 4 phones from there over the years with good experiences.
Great, thanks for the suggestion! I'll check Swappa out.

I got a Pixel 2 Xl 128 GB for $430. It has a small scuff on the bottom corner that's hardly noticeable. This thing is heads and tails better than my S7 Edge.
My unit was purchased directly from Google play store, still in warranty.
I looking to upgrade to a 3 xl... Pm me maybe we can work somethjng out
Black 64gb unlocked play store version.

I would go through Swappa and try and sell your phone there. It was a good experience for me. I bought one and don't need another one, but thanks anyway.
Swappa even states if it's a Google Edition or a Verizon
I recently ordered a pixel 2 unlocked that was a refurbished unit (yesterday) and then i read here on xda on the how to root pixel 2 Nathan chance's thread that explains how to root, a user states that he received 4 returhished units and all had encrypted bootloader's. His original device did not. Google pretty much told him tough luck. Then I read a few write ups on Reditt and on Google help site about the same thing. The refurbs have the switch and you can flip it on, however when you key in the fastboot command to unlock bootloader it fails. I canceled my order akd swappa got upset so I hooked me up with the links and told them to sticky that ****!! Seriously pissed me off!!
