Just a quick question, but i have yet to see any discussion on rooting or roming and of the gsm versions of the tablet, Verizon has had the tablet the longest, but they are a no go with bootloader unlocks so its probably pointless, but i have some small amount of hope for TMobile and and a lesser amount for at&t version. thanks for answering, i bought the tablet anyways because it is literally the last good Android tablet left, root or no root so ill make it work either way, and themes will fix most of my issues anyhow

I had the T-Mobile and Verizon variants of this tablet and neither has "OEM Unlock" for the bootloader so rooting is not possible right now and most likely will require an exploit to be found to allow this. The community is small with these tablets from what I have seen so far.
Also, neither had the latest version of Firmware so Linux on DeX does not work on them yet. This could change any day when an update is rolled out but you will need to wait on the carrier to roll that out.
That said it is a Great Tablet!
fine to know i guess, all i need is a normal Android tab, might mess with the dex stuff but not why i getting it, i would only have rooted it when Samsung gave up on the tablet anyhow, as they always seem to do with the tablets in my experience
I bought the Verizon model not realizing it couldn't be rooted. I returned it.
Another big reason not to buy a carrier branded tablet is that it will be throttled data if using a voice line on TMobile.
However if you buy the Korean model, you can root, use your voice sim for full data speed voice and text apps, and get 6GB of ram.
This is the one I got shipped to the US. No issues whatsoever : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Ga...-LTE-Unlocked-4K-Record-SM-T835-/253816928507

Nope, no fees. The item description warned of that but I didn't pay anything outside of eBay
I'm very happy and would do it again

The T-Mobile build was ARJ3 but it was the September Security Patch and a U1 bootoader. Linux on DeX looks like it needs at least the October Security Patch. Good Luck!
I have looked around and can't seem to find a model that is cdma compatible with sprint that has the ability to unlock the bootloader. Seems the A505U carrier variant can't unlock the bootloader. I've tried doing the 7 day trick but it doesn't seem to work for the A505U sadly(looking for additional confirmation on this).
Also on the look out for this, but it's not looking very promising. ?
I wish there were an unlocked varient for the US i just purchased one and didnt realize till when i looked at the model number that its for Europe
So the Sprint model can not be unlocked and rooted? I haven't owned a Samsung device for several years but the A50 peaked my interest. Looks like the same scenario, GSM models can be unlocked and CDMA can not.

I've seen atleast one other report that the 505U on Sprint and Verizon has locked BL. I've been told in telegram this si the case to. I have tested the 7 day trick extensively and it doesn't work on A505U. Did you have to do something special to get the oem unlock in dev options?

Just picked up an Xfinity Version of the A50.
I have no plans to unlock and root.. as I want the security of Knox for Samsung / Google Pay.
But.. has anyone looked into what Xfinity is doing with their software?
Sprint Samsung A50 BL Unlock NO GO!
Ok so I am now an employee of Sprint. The information I have gathered is as follows. When Sprint requested this device from Samsung in their lengthy list of requirements one of them was that the ability to unlock the bootloader be removed. The reasoning behind this was that they did not want the end users to wind up " Accidentally " bricking their devices. As per insurance guidelines any attempt to modify the devices hardware and or software voids your warranty and your insurance that you carry on the device. So basically what they are saying is hey Android / Samsung community because of several hundred unintelligent people ruining their own devices we are removing the option in general. I am currently pushing to see if we can work with Samsung to push a firmware update that will allow this feature to be accessible as the whole point of having an android device it the open platform and being able to do these things. I really wish more cell phone manufacturers were like HTC which allows you to unlock the boot loader on any of their devices and even provide you a tool to turn S-Off on their website. But we cannot all be great.... Anyway hope that clears it up for ya'll and I am fighting the good fight on your behalf. P.S. I have the Samsung A50 and I was really not happy when I found out I could not root it.

If you're sprint a50 is unlocked it should work fine on vzw. You can call vzw and give them you're imei to check compatibly.

Here in 2021 looks like things didn't go well :'(
My old A505U is just off contract and the "OEM Unlock" switch is missing from the developer options menu. Additionally, none of the normal methods for getting it to appear have worked for me. (I have tried reflashing the stock firmware, the whole messing with the date&time and updating, factory reset + login + wait 2 to 14 days)
I have spent hours on the phone with both Samsung and my previous carrier, but with no results; none of their support people have the knowledge/are allowed to help with unlocking the bootloader.
I am getting very discouraged that this old phone of mine will ever run anything open :'(
Can anyone confirm whether an oem bootloader unlock is available for the 0 model devices from China and Brazil as it was for the S10? I'd like to get the N9750/DS for for the improved performance of the snapdragon chip, but it won't be worth a damn without root.

Please take this as a legit question, not a dig... is root really that big a deal any more? I haven't rooted a phone since maybe my Note 4, and I really don't miss it much. Certainly not enough to deal with the crappy non-snappy models. Probably the best thing about root back then for me was getting rid of the bloat, but you can do much of that anyhow and the phone is plenty fast regardless now.

Can anyone else with an 0 model device, perhaps the DS version, confirm that this is the same across all devices?

For me root is essential. I use my device as an all around computer replacement when traveling, relying on chroot Linux to use desktop level graphics and video editing software. I also like to configure my environment and take full advantage of tasker and scripting to improve my user experience and workflow. I know this isn't the most common use case and I'm sure for most people unrooted is fine.
Good news. I checked again today and the unlock bootloader option was available. There must be some 24 hour delay I'm theorizing. Root away!

Hey guys, I am thinking of jumping from my Galaxy S10+ Exynos to a Note10+ (Snapdragon) especially the Chinese/Latin America version, and I want to know if you can unlock the bootloader, this is mostly for me to flash updates via Odin, not for root as I do not use it anyway.
Can you unlock the bootloader of this version?
Can you flash official updates to this device via Odin?
Thanks in advance guys!

Wait youre saying certain models come with an inbuilt option to unlock the bootloader?? i believe im using an SM-N975U with TMobile, and because im currently renegotiating things with them concerning an amount, they wont unlock it yet so it can be used with another carrier, and when i've attempted to do so with 3rd party unlock services they were unable to.. So are you saying if i acquired use of one of these it'd be not only unlocked thus able to be used with another carrier but its also rootable even though it uses a snapdragon? Would the only issue be to change the language to English or is there a lot more to it to make it usable here in the US? Which models does this apply to, just the one you mentioned? i believe i considered the unlocking offer for the snapgradragon, but the lack of transparency and being that i'm told it's from china (where Chinese friends tell me the lack of business ethics is unreal)i believe made me very uncomfortable.

How? Am lead to believe a carrier unlock means youre not locked to a particular carrier, and bootloader unlock means the operating system files one is locked out from using by a manufacturer, are unlocked to become changeable. Could they be two separate questions? So is there an answer?

Carrier lock means the phone is locked to a particular carrier and is tied to the device's IMEI. Bootloader lock is a security feature installed by the OEM to prevent malicious code from running on boot up. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to root the phone and install custom ROMs. It does not remove the carrier lock.

I've had my t-mobile tab s7 for a rew days. What I've noticed is that tmo/Samsung has looked the app down so you can't make calls. The Phone.apk is present just not the ability to make calls. I hope there will be some changes but not holding my breath

Same here I purchased one yesterday moving from a wifi version thinking I'm going to be able to sync messages and phone. The apps are there but the setting to sync is not. Very disappointed. I ended up using T-Mobile Digits. It's got to be possible to re-enable calls and text syncing... Maybe root required?

I think at this point unless we complain to samsung via the member app enough, it would only be through a custom rom. Its a shame really. Right now I would settle for just getting the text message function working right. It wont send out messages until after I reboot the tablet

Yes i can and it does work. But still I was hoping for them to make the tablet itself natively work this way. Just dont understand why they wouldnt. So now that would mean i have two lines that I can text from, but only one can make or take calls. Either way, I hope there is someone who has the tablet for tmo and can tell me that it still CAN be rooted and flashed with custom roms. Im so hoping. If not it will be the last time EVER i buy carrier ANYTHING!!

Well if there's no unlock bootloader option then there's no way to get root as that's mandatory to patch the boot.
The only way might be to pay for an unofficial bootloader like you have to for the phones if the tab7 is even supported by the Chinese outfit that does this.
So i spoke to tmobile the other and from what i was told that their tablet devices come unlocked (ie no need for the toggle as its unlocked), but will not work unless you have the tab paid off or paid full price at purchase. Is there anyone watching that has the tab paid off that can confirm this?

Even then, there's nothing they can push to unlock it. That's the way samsung sold it to them as a vendor.

The problem is that so so many of the CSRs don't know the difference between network locked vs bootloader locked. Huge difference. As I understand it the TMobile network locking is in fact application based and unlocking can be turned off at Tmo server level. But bootloader locking is totally different

Correct, with tmobile however when they do the network unlock it would also (usually) allow for the oem unlock feature to be available or at least thats how it worked with other devices. With this, it should clear any block from that is set by Tmobile, however we will still need to go through whatever process to unlock bootloader.

Nope. Never has a US version samsung been able to be unlocked by any push update from a carrier.
The only phone was the sprint Note9 I believe, which was sold bootloader unlocked as it was a very different version.
But they have to be bootloader unlocked from samsung.
Everything else has to be unofficially unlocked using sampnwed.
Samsung is very different than oneplus in them allowing carriers to use tokens for unlocking.

DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE FROM VERIZON EITHER. Even though my galaxy tab s7 is unlocked, not only does Verizon do the same as Tmobile but Verizon also blocked T-Mobile 5G bands. I wanted to bring my Galaxy S7 to T-Mobile but T-Mobile 5g bands are blocked by Verizon firmware. Good business sense for Verizon since Verizon has almost zero 5G coverage and everyone who wants 5G is forced to Tmobile. And even though its not the blazing fast higher frequency 5G, its pretty damn damn fast compared to 4G and sadly especially fast compared to the only two competitors. And its almost everywhere LTE is now.
I've been going bananas and nuts trying to gather information on the S22 Ultra international models.
I'm certain, with Verizon, I need a GSM & CDMA capable phone so my voice and data both work.
I'm fairly certain I can't use one of the Exynos chipped models, but that it has to be a Snapdragon chip. (conflicting information out there on this)
So I'm thinking I need the SM-S908E ... or the B maybe?
Barring that, for anyone who has gotten an unlocked US model, can you get the Developer Options to appear and if so, does OEM Unlock appear? None of the demo models at Best Buy would unlock Developer Options, but that may just be a demo restriction.
Bottom line, I want to root the next phone so I can install Titanium Backup and get the excess garbage under control. My Verizon bloated S20 Ultra literally has no way to get to OEM Unlock. It simply isn't there.
My daughter has the US unlocked version S22. It does not have OEM unlock in developer options. From what I've read in these forums and elsewhere, the bootloaders of US S22/S22+/S22U devices can't be unlocked. Nobody has figured it out yet. I'm confident that as soon as someone does, it will be posted on XDA in big bold letters.

That definitely helps. So it's Samsung locking the thing down for whatever reason.
I guess I still need some recommendations on non-US models and hope I can use one of those.
What makes this worse, my S20 (2020) Ultra has no way to get to "OEM Unlock", but the Tab A8 (2021) I just got does. Great consistency Samsung.
S, Z and Note series phones have been locked down since the S7 in the US. And the issue with buying an international phone for Verizon is that the bands you need won't be supported.

Yeah, this isn't even necessary anymore. Backing up your apps with Google or Samsung works great, and if you want to get rid of "excess garbage" just get the US Unlocked model.

I rooted my S8+, though there were a couple issues (visual VM never worked again and the battery % never went above 80% except a few times in the months before it died altogether).
I find it a little unlikely that an unlocked model would let me remove things like Game Booster (while I can "disable" it, it still interferes with games) and any number of other unwanted apps. This seems to be a hallmark of US models more than any other....bloat.
You rooted your S8 due to a leaked engineering bootloader, and if you did that, you knew the issues it caused (which you listed) and how difficult it was to obtain root for samsung devices since the S7.

I'd still really prefer to get this thing rooted properly and use Titanium Backup, which I know works.
