Wanted to see if anyone knew if it's possible to get the S20 5G onto AT&T's 5G network without one of the unlimited plans. I currently have a 12GB plan, which I never go over and it would cost me an extra $50/month to switch to one of the unlimited plans (family is on the plan). Something in the settings or even going through AT&T. I don't have it rooted since the AT&T version is locked and I tried to see if it's possible through the *#*#4636#*#* settings, but only saw LTE options.

Hi -
I got a T-Mobile Touch Pro2 and I am planning to unlock it from T-mobile and use it on AT&T.
I heard that AT&T 3g is not going to work on T-mobile Touch pro 2 - as data is specific to carrier!!!
Is this true?
I am still in first 14 day period. I am afreaid - if this is true - I will return the phone and cancel the line before 14 days.
Please let me know if anyone knows if AT&T HSDPA and 3g works after unlocking the phone.
I donot want to pay 200$ Early termination Fee to T-mobile and Phone not work with At&t data.
Bytheway - I have good at&t line with discounts - and I donot want to pay 79.99 per month to T-mobile.
Thanks
The phone will work on AT&T as it is a quad-band GSM device. You will be limited to EDGE data speeds only (No 3G data) as the T-Mo version of the TP2 does not have the 3G radio bands that AT&T uses (850/1900).
Thanks for the information. Your information will serve me good.
I am returning the phone in the grace period - and keeping myself out of trouble.
I have T-Mobile service and I want a non-TMO branded HSDPA capable Rhodium (TP2). T-Mobile thinks it is reasonable to charge $25 per month for data, whereas they have a $10 a month plan but they don't let you use that plan with the TP2. Having a non-branded HSDPA 1700/2100 capable Rhodium will allow me to get the $10.00 data plan on the Rhodium with T-Mobile service because they would not know the phone's IMEI.
Does a phone like this exist? Possibly in another country? If so, where can I get one?
no. tmobile is the only carrier that uses the 1700 band. if they force you into a plan when buying the phone from them, you can buy it branded but from someone else.
In the US it's the only carrier that uses 1700MHz but are there companies in other countries who sell Rhodium that use that frequency?
Would HTC ever develop a phone that uses 1700MHz that is not specifically designed for T-Mobile (ie: a generic, non carrier specific phone)?
I'm running the T-Mobile Shadow Unlimited Web plan for only 10$ a month.
What are they responding to you asking for your plan?
T-Mobile has no reason to charge you what you don't want.
Changing the ROM of your phone will NOT change the IMEI.
You'll have to use a non T-Mobile Rhodium in order to get the $10 data, but then of course you won't get 3G.
Edit: Misread the post and thought the OP was looking for a ROM to solve the problem. Oops.

I don't know what you're talking.
I'm getting 3G with the 10$ plan.
The shadow supports 3G, and I'm running it right now as we speak through internet modem.

You have a Shadow. I'm talking about the Rhodium. The Shadow is obviously not one of the phones that T-Mobile restricts from the cheaper data plan. If you had a TMO Rhodium and put your $10/month data plan SIM card into it, it would tell you, "This device is not compatible with your data plan." That's why it's in the Rhodium forums. It's not related to the Shadow.
They restrict certain phones from accessing their internet2 APN (the $10/month plan). Walk into a TMO store and try to get a new Rhodium or an Android phone... they'll tell you that you need a $25/month data plan. Even though all the data is accesible through any of their APN's, they restrict certain phones from accessing data using the cheaper data plan.
Update: The HTC Rhodium 100 (RHOD100) world version of the Rhodium supports all frequencies EXCEPT 1700. Bummer.

they dont support the 1900 too and all of the cdma frequencies. so if you want to use att, tmobile, verizon, sprint, telus, or many others, you have to use a carrier branded phone.
Will I be able to get it to work on Sprint's network here state side? I live in California and can get a great deal while I am here in Taiwan
I just know sprint doesn't have sim cards but there must be a way right? Also if not on sprint if I had to last resort go to another carrier?
Thanks in advance.
Sprint
No you can't use a gsm phone on cdma system. Sprint uses a different system then att or tmobile, which are gsm. The only hope for you if on sprint is if sprint themselves release this phone and if I have read correctly it might not be the quad variant. So save your money till you get home.
alternate carrier might be at&t. you can buy a micro-sim on amazon and even go for a relatively cheap prepaid phone plan. or buy the micro-sim from net10 and go for their $50/month everything "unlimited" plan - which we all know for most carriers still means limited data, you just have to find out at which point they kick you off. from what i've read, there's a similar possibility on straight-talk. i think net10 and straight-talk use the at&t towers on gsm. (on cdma, net10 where i live uses the sprint system.) i went for the at&t plan - $2/day unlimited talk/text when used (i don't talk or text that often) and a data plan (they come in different sizes/prices).
As stated, Sprint uses CDMA. Most of the world uses GSM. The international One X will never work on Sprint.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
So this is what I've been reading/hearing so far. If I were to get an International Samsung Galaxy S3 and put it with the $10 unlimited data plan for non-smartphones (I already have the unlimited texting family plan) it will work? What about the HSPA+ thing? What exactly is the HSPA+? Also, I heard that the international version needs a microSIM. So will I need to change anything on my current plan for a microSIM? How would I get it from At&t then?
How much are international Samsung Galaxy S3 range from? Will I need to buy an unlocked version? What does 'unlocked' mean?
Geezuz dude, google is your friend.
It works, im using mine on it. Dont know about the whole family plan thing as this is my personal.
Yes, $10 Unlimited data plan can work if done right. HSPA+ is pretty much 3G with backhaul. Yes, the GS3 uses a microSIM...you can get one at At&t (free)...there are videos on youtube with instructions on how to cut your current fatass SIM to a micro...which I would do since you're trying to do that $10 unlimited data thing.
How much are international Samsung Galaxy S3 range from? GOOGLE will answer this..or go look in the marketplace
Will I need to buy an unlocked version? International S3s are unlocked.
What does 'unlocked' mean? unlocked means...its SIM unlocked. Can be used on different SIM carriers.
Good evening all,
I recently purchased an unlocked snapdragon S20 Ultra 5G and I am unable to get the Network Mode option under Mobile Network. Is there any way I can enable without having to wipe the phone?
I am currently on AT&T and in the LA area where 5G is available (I checked on the map)
Thank you!

Are you currently on ATE4?
In order for me to have wifi calling and 5G I had be running ATE6 U CSC from G988US.
Go to this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20/how-to/g988u-g988u1-firmware-links-flashing-t4054133

I went ahead and followed the tutorial again and no success..
I am getting 5Ge which is not true 5G just a little gimmick AT&T has pulled. Notice in the screen shot how it says LTE still.
And I still don't have the option to select the network mode.. Which leads me to believe that that is what is blocking 5G from happening.
I'm currently in the Modesto area which according to the AT&T website should be one of the few cities to have it here in California..
I'm beginning to think this Snapdragon version I purchased has the band locked for some reason...
I have found out why I wasn't receiving 5G, my AT&T plan had to be set up with AT&T Elite or AT&T Extra plan. Without that I wasn't able to access the 5G network. It's a little mind-boggling that we have to pay extra to access 5G.

Paying extra for 5G is pretty standard. Besides having faster download speeds, what advantage(s) do you have over 4G, receiving a text or email 3 seconds sooner? I'm holding off until networks are built out and Service Provider standards are defined. In the future when more 5G utilities are widely available it makes perfect sense but for now I can't justify spending more for a 5G Device and additional Service Provider fees.
