I have an old laptop that is capable of 5ghz (i use 5ghz on my home router all the time) but I can not see the the 5ghz hotspot on my mi10t pro, I have the same issue with the 5ghz hotspot setting on my galaxy note 9. I had assumed the 5ghz of the samsung was not enabled, for 2 years I have assumed this and used usb tethering lol.
So when I tried to tether to my M10t pro 5ghz and could not I realised something was more up here.
When I run "Netsh WLAN show drivers" on my laptop I see 5ghz is supported: Radio types supported : 802.11b 802.11a 802.11g 802.11n
(the fact I can connect to my 5ghz wifi at home also confirms that)
My next guess is that the network is not allowing me to use 5ghz hotspot on my phone ( note9 is on virgin, m10t is on vodafone, i am in the middle of switching providers) so I ran a test, I turned the 5ghz hot spot on my m10t pro on, then connected to it with my note 9, connection was fast and the speed was insane for wireless tethering (70mb down 10 up) the same as i get from usb tethering. So I know the phone is giving a 5ghz hotspot that works.
So why can it not see the wifi hotspot of the m10t pro or note 9? The only assumption is that the 5ghz hotspot on android is at a channel my aging laptop can not see...but how do you change the channel? no option for it in hotspot settings..... is it even possible?
Hmm your laptop is the culprit here I think. Samsung DID mess up 5ghz wifi AP on Note 10+ and S10/S10+ phones. The AP just would not show. It took several system updates for Samsung to get it fixed. But the Note 9 never suffered from this issue and it should have always worked. I am not sure where the issue lies exactly. Check the laptop network adapters settings in Device Manager on Windows, mess around there, see if the Mi 10T/N9 hotspot pops up. If no dice, check if the wifi chip is only capable of certain MHz or bands or whatever. Something is there. It's not the phone I think.

Given that my note 9 can connect to my m10t then i do agree my laptop must be limited (I have messed about with settings, drivers, device properties and all sorts) since the laptop DOES connect to the 5ghz of my router I am assuming that the 5ghz hotspot on the note9 and m10t is on a channel that (band?) that the laptop can not see, but i do not see any way to change it like you can on a router.
The other option I am thinking on is buying a usb wifi dongle from amazon.co.uk but not sure which would actually connect to the phone and budget is not good at mo....
its a nightmare as i really cant understand why the laptop can connect to 5g on the router but cant even see 5g from the phone.
laptop is an asus Aspire V3-571G with a Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 wifi chip. not sure if that helps any advice. I currently have tried the 2014 official asus drivers and the 2017 qualcomm atheros site drivers.
Yeah, a quick search throws up many complaints. You have three options.
1) Get the USB dongle as you said. They are super cheap usually, and you can return within 14 days anyway.
2) Use a thing like this. Though then you need a small ethernet cable from this to laptop, not too comfy: https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/wifi-router/tl-wr902ac/v1/
3) Get a new chip for the laptop. Some laptops only accept pre-certified chips so you do have to look around. Still, wifi chips on ebay are super cheap. They basically just come out and you can put in a new one. This is also a route.

1) this seems the most likely route, just being sure to get one that will actually work with the 5ghz channel my mi 10t pro actually broadcasts at and can make use of the 5g phone speeds when they are activated in a couple of weeks. May look at ebuyer, more expensive but less resellers.
2) prefer to use my phone as the router, I am a security guard so tethering is a godsend in my profession, but less devices to carry the better
3) I did not know that was even a thing! falls foul of the issues with 1 but would be more convient once installed
I will pick up a Mi 10T Pro on Monday, if you can wait until then, I can check.
Until then, can you check my threads about the phone?

Hi,
I know this post's quite old, but I've found a solution.
I've got a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377, and encountered the same problem as the author of this thread.
I found on another forum, that it's possible to connect to any channel on the 5ghz, by changing the regional domain of the wifi card.
Unfortunately, in the advanced tab of this card, the option's missing, but can be enabled by adding entries to the registry.
As you can see on the picture attached, I've chosen Asia, though I live in Europe.
I can now connect to the 5ghz no matter the channel.
You may have to edit the registry file to assign correct device number to the registry branch mine is 0002 in bold character below ; here are the keys added to the registry:

Be sure to find your QualComm adapter in the registry (0003 in my case, was 0002 for NicoLastr):
Update the code fromNicoLastr with the right number and save it in a .reg file. Click on it to import it.
In the registry, you should now see something like this :
Maybe also check that your driver is not too old.
Turn off WiFi hotspot, then change the phone region to UK or something than switch back to original region you used before. After that turn on WiFi hotspot and it will use channel 100 again.

@ all,
it might sound a bit surprising, but I dont get my new artemis ( i now own one with wifi !, my hero didnt!),
working with the wireless of my belkin n1 router!
everytime i enter the mac adress into the router, wlan stops alltogether! ( do i need to enter the mac adress?)
entering the normal wpa-psk passwords into wm6.1 vanilla or b&b5, the connection constantly changes between available, but not connecting, and unavailable... even when sitting right next to the router!
any ideas?
help highly appreciated!

news:
got it working for now-- changed wlan channel in rpouter to channel11, which is preset in wm6.1!
is that how its done?
Update:
most of the times the router just kills the wlan function all in all once i try to connect with the artemis!
Need to reboot router to get it running again!
Where am i going wrong?
p.s. no, i aint a novice
I've got the same roblem mate. Not got a clue what to do ?
Had the same issue with a Belkin N router yesterday. Solution I dumped it went down to Maplins and got a Netgear. Plugin and I was away.
Had flashed the rom serveral times (Win 5, 6, 6.1 some of the cooked roms) nothing worked was thinking it was a hardware failure.
Dont' appear to matter how you set the belkin nothing works.
Thou oddly my Exec connects with it just fine.

Gee, that would for sure make me one unhappy pal!
Anybody around here has another idea!
Possibly some tips on "Must does" ! for connecting via wifi with artemis! Whats with the mac address-thing?!!!
Greetz
To be honest, I've looked at dozens of sites searching for a solution to this issue. Everything from flashing the ROM (Device and router), enter MAC on the router, set a IP address, changing channels, security settings and nothing appear to work with the Belkin N family.
My experience with Belkin has not been good (Tech support has always been first class).
The first router (Cheap 54g) would run for 2 hours then lockup, requiring a reset of both the router and cable modem). Replaced by Belkin after several days talking to tech support.
The second router (Same 54g unit, different Version number) Ran fine until you moved data about, anything downloading above 150k locked the router. Wired connections could do 300k then lock up. Replaced by Belkin.
The third unit (Upgraded to a 2 stick version for free) DOA. Replaced by Belkin
The forth unit (Same 2 stick version) worked data transfers good but would not allow wifi connections other than WEP 64. Firmware update would then WEP 128. Replaced by Belkin.
The Fifth unit (Same 2 stick version, different version) Wifi worked with all settings. However with wifi on all wired connections ran like a 56k modem. Replaced by Belkin.
The sixth unit (Upgraded to the N) Worked fine. Wired connections fine, wifi was a bit hit or miss, two Toshiba laptops connected fine, the Dell laptop never connected. Belkins own N usb dongle also never connected.
My Orbit never connected to any of the Belkins, the Exec did with some and others not.
This issue is not limited to Belkin, if you look about, other makers routers also appear to have this issue.
The cheap Netgear (£35) works just fine for me. Took 5 minutes to setup. Everything in the house connects. I`m happy after 7 months of Belkin issues.
uiuiui,
what a story!
just so we dont get us wrong here: had my n1 now for about 6months, and its running just fine with all my notebooks! - just since trying to connect with my artemis i am running into probs!
A theory of this mornings trials:
any way of changing the preconfigured broadcast channel 11 within the artemis? --- seems to me the channelchanging is causing the hangups!
will try setting the router to channel 11 and see what happens!
greetz
Ive set channel to 6 in the N router, the Art/Orbit will find it and go though the motions of connecting and make it unavailable (our problem with N routers). The Network setting will show its on ch6 (if you can there before it becomes unavailable). Then goes to ch11.
I think the Art/Orbit just runs in sequence though the channels, if it gets a lock it uses that channel. If not it moves on, I think we just see ch11 because its the last ch available in the scan.
Have just played with the Netgear channels and the Art/Orbit connects with every channel, the Network setting page shows the correct channel that the routers broadcasting.
So it don't appear that the channel is hard coded to the Art/Orbit.
Ok stumbled across this thread a little too late. Our Linksys wrt54g was not able to handle the kind of data we were transferring and moved to a Belkin_N1 router, I have an HTC Wizard but same symptoms, if I try to connect to Belkin I can not connect to anything WIFI before a soft-reset, I get prompted for key fine once and during connection something messes up the wifi radio, I am not sure if its a software or hardware issue but got the same issue with an SMC router, while my D-Link at home is working fine. I wasted so much time flashing ROMs and what not. Thanks for everyone who has put info here, somebody can read here and save the pain of hitting the wall with frustration.
Hello,
I recently purchased the Note 8.0 and I'm experiencing a weird problem with the internet connection. I can connect to my wireless network, I can access other devices on the LAN, but I cannot access the Internet or ping the gateway (I can however ping other hosts on the LAN). I know it's not the tablet as I've tried it at work and I also tried running my S4 as a hot-spot and internet works as it should. The S4 works without a problem on my wireless at home as do a few laptops.
At this point, I'd say, it is obvious that it's something with my cable modem/router, but if possible I'd like to figure out what the problem is.
I found a post somewhere that had a similar problem, where the device in question was receiving the wrong MAC for the gateway, but this is not the case here as my tablet does not even receive a MAC for the gateway.
Output from the tablet:
android:/ $ ip neigh
<some IPv6 address> dev wlan0 lladdr <Gateway MAC> router STALE
192.168.0.1(gateway) dev wlan0 FAILED
192.168.0.5 dev wlan0 lladdr <Server MAC> reachable
Output from the S4:
android:/ $ ip neigh
<same IPv6 as above> dev wlan0 lladdr <Gatewawy MAC> router STALE
192.168.0.1 dev wlan0 lladdr <Gatweay MAC> reachable
192.168.0.5 dev wlan0 lladdr <Server MAC> reachable
I've tried resetting the modem back to factory defaults, removing/changing encryption type. I did not wipe the tablet as I've had the issue from day 1.
The only way I'm able to get the tablet to sort of connect to the internet is to assign a static IP to it, however that only works for a few mins and is very intermittent.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any way to figure out why the tablet won't get the MAC for the gateway?
My cable modem/router is an Arris DG860, but unfortunately, there's very little info on it and I couldn't find a firmware upgrade for it. What's also interesting is that the tablet does not show up in the DHCP client list of the modem, however it gets an IP, connects and communicates with other hosts.
Thank you for your help
What IP is the Note 8 ending up with? If somehow it is outside the range of what it should be I would wonder if it is just giving itself an IP when it fails to receive one from the DHCP server (ie, your router). I know that Windows computers will do that as a fallback.
Can you check your router to see if perhaps the DHCP pool is too small? If that were the problem then it might not be allocating another IP because there aren't any left (based on it's current config). In which case you can just make the number of allowable IPs to be larger.
There may be other possibilities too. The above are just what is coming to mind at the moment.
It is a valid IP as I have access to other devices on the network, but to answer your question it gets 192.168.0.13 with a mask of 255.255.255.0. I wanted to try forcing the private network to work on IPv6, but haven't been able to figure it out yet.
The tablet gets the right MAC for the server and communicates with it, which leads me to believe that the router (gateway) isn't responding to ARP requests from the Note. I have some access to the router's CLI but it's not very helpful and I have no idea how to troubleshoot it on the Note..

That is bizarre. Can you ping the gateway from other devices on the network? Can other devices on the network ping or otherwise see or access the Note 8? It seems like the Note 8 doesn't exist to the gateway, and so I'm wondering if it also doesn't exist to anything else on the network. It is possible (though I'm just guessing here) that the Note 8 is giving itself an IP address that it determines as being appropriate based on the other devices it can see. Given that it doesn't show up in the DHCP table on the gateway I can't really see how it is getting an IP unless it is assigning it to itself. Another thought is to check the IP addresses of all the other devices currently on the network in case somehow you're having an IP address conflict (ie, two separate devices ending up with the same IP somehow, which can happen temporarily in the case of a device having an IP and then being hibernated, during which another device is given the same IP, and then later the first device is resumed from hibernation).
If you don't receive much further help here on the XDA forums I'd suggest starting a thread over on the SmallNetBuilder Forums as there's lots of knowledgeable folks there that can help with networking things like this.
As for me, I've got to sign off for the night. Best wishes to you as you troubleshoot!
Hi and thanks for the reply.
Yes the gateway is pingable from other devices, so is the Note. I also tried changing the 192.168.0.xxx to 10.10.0.xxx with no luck. The Note received the 10. from the DHCP server, but the gateway still would not respond.
I think it might have something to do with the routing on the modem, the hosts on the network can communicate at layer 2 (no routing need) while everything on the outside needs to be router. Still does not explain why the gateway doesn't respond to the Note though...
Have you done a traceroute to another local device to see the path its taking?
You will need to have root and I think busybox. You will also need to su before doing traceroute... maybe there is an app that can a trace if your not rooted!

Is the router still left with it's default settings? Also, Is there a page in the router/modem's web gui for DHCP and if so, what are those settings? It sounds to me like the DHCP is failing to pass along the external GW and/or DNS servers. To test a theory, are you able to ping 8.8.8.8?
I wonder if this was solved? I'm having the exact same problem minus all the technical knowledge. Tech support at time Warner seem like they are reading a script. Has anyone found a fix or workaround for this modem? My note works everywhere but home
I might have narrowed down the issue...
On technical support last night it was resolved that the Note was looking for IP version 6 ip and the time warner box only outputs IP version 4...
Is there a way to have the note look for IP version 4??? I know nothing about this but I guess over this next year we are supposed to be switching to IP version 6?
I unpacked my note 8 yesterday and I experience an issue when connected to wifi. When I tried to download something from play store it taked too times and usually downloads remained blocked at 70/90% and this didn't happen in 3G. So I tried a factory reset and now all thing works great you could try..

Factory reset doesnt do it for me.
My wifi works everywhere but at home using Time Warner on the Arris DG860 modem. I think the OP and my problem are because of a combo of these factors.
I believe it has to do with the IP change that is taking place this year.
If you look up online it seems to be kind of a big change. You can type ... time warner ip version 6... into google and see a link that explains it. I cant link for some reason.
I wish someone could confirm this, but does the note 8 only accept IP version 6? Time Warner will only deliver version 4 to me right now through this modem, and the tablet is making a version 6 IP.
Atleast thats where ive made it so far.
I can confirm that I have the same problem at my In-Laws house. Arris router, and Charter network in Louisville. Likely the same as Time Warner folks.
But I think the Arris router is the more likely culprit. I didnt feel comfortable asking the FIL to let me kack around in his router
I have the same problem on my main wifi at the house. It's a 2.4/5 ghz setup. My guest wifi is just normal 2.4 different router etc. I'm going to need to look into this at length as this just isn't going to do. Also as far as IP6 is concerned we won't see that roll out Internet wise for at least another 2 years fully. When it does go full steam all of the IP4 routers APs will have to be either replaced or firmware upgraded if the internal radios will even support IP6. Most likely 70% won't and that's the reason you don't see a lot of IP6 routers etc. We have them on the enterprise side but most are not in use. I will report back when I have anything useful.

OK figured it out and it includes a bit of funny.
I went through my network setup and forgot that I had
MAC filtering on so I added the Note along with a face palm thinking
That was it, couldn't have been that easy right... No it wasn't but good
News.
The note 8 doesn't like the 20/40 "channel width" or some routers call it "wideband" in the routers or in my case access points. Turn that to 20 only and boom there you go. Wifi
Works perfect. You will find it typically under advanced settings.

The Note 8 supports both 4 and 6. The issues described sound a lot like config issues on the modem or router. as stated before, sounds like an issue with the DHCP server (the thing that provides ips to the devices.)

Hmmm I have an ipad, note 2, ps3, laptop, gfs iphone all connecting just fine... hours and hours of tech support, and the best answer is incompatability. For some reason the note is only creating ip6 my isp only does 4. I understand the note is capabale of both, but in this specific instance there is a bug in the note with this router.
nothing to do with settings. If every other device I own connects without hassle then someone needs to fix the note 8. Christ my note 2 connects....
there were no options untouched by highest level tech person fromisp... its the note 8
Arris DG860 and Note 8 *Workaround*
Ok, just got done trouble shooting a customers Note 8 on working behind one of our DG860 modem/routers, what I was seeing was the Note 8 was showing up with an IPv6 address even if I had the IPv6 DHCP turned off. What I found works is if you go into LAN > DHCP on the DG860 and create a "Fixed DHCP Client" using the Notes MAC address and some address in the IPv4 range like 192.168.0.X it will force it to pull that instead of the IPv6 address and work. Hope this helps anyone running into this weird combination.
At wits end
I been having nothing but issues connecting my wifi only note 8 to the internet at my house. Everywhere else it works fine but at home nothing but issues and all other devices are connecting with no problems. I have tried it with a netgear router, and now a arris gateway and still cannot connect. The cable tech came out by chance and was checking my connections and could not figure out why it would not connect either. I have time warner if that makes a difference which I am starting to wonder it does seeing how I can connect everywhere else and have tried two different ways to connect at home.
Update: So after being on the phone with time warner, samsung, and live chat with Arris this is just one hot mess. Samsung is stating that there seems to be firmware issues with arris gateways which I have noticed many people posting problems with their arris products, and their resolution was to roll back the software. Time Warner is stating that they cannot roll back the software on the modems and was trying to blame it on my tablet, though it was working before I setup the gateway and it works on other routers even on a piece of crap belkin that likes to kick off everything it worked on that with no issues. Arris told me that they have no control over the software only the cable companies do, so in typical fashion a lot of passing the buck and finger pointing. I am just irate at the moment for I do not have a working tablet at home. Part of me thinks it is the android 4.2.2 as well, for I had 4.2.2 on my droid razr hd and had numerous wifi issues with it.
Update 2: After doing some more research I have found there seems to be a issue with the wifi card and the chipset with arris gateways so there is a compatibility issue with the card. I had my netgear hooked up to it before and didn't have issues so I am going to just use my netgear and run the gateway in bridge mode it should fix the issue.
My Samsung GT-N5110 was rooted and running just fine on 4.1.2. I accepted the 4.4.2 update from Samsung which resulted in the tablet becoming unrooted. i was able to re-root using the ODIN 3.09 and CF-Autoroot. I am not experiencing seriously bad WiFi connectivity. The device will connect and stay connected for 10-15 minutes. Then it will drop the connection and re-establish. I have checked all the obvious places... Oddly, the WiFI > Advanced Settings does not even show "Wifi Optimization" which many threads suggest I disable. I do not even see that option. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Hi,
I can't find anything relevant on XDA for your devices issue. So I will have your thread moved to your device section.
Good luck!

OK, delete the Davlik Cache and remove your internet connection and reboot.
After rebooting attach to your wireless to connect cleanly.
I setup my wireless router for new devices, as my router is 6 years old and does not work well with power saving features in sending packets. Set DTIM to 5 and Beacon Interval to 90.
You can also adjust Fragmentation Threshold to 2306 and RTS to 2307
The last two are tweaks for faster downloading.

Thanks for the tips. My router is a high end D-Link Dual Band router. But here is the real kicker... the device was working flawlessly before the Samsung update to 4.4.2. I ended up installing the custom ROM by CivZ for Android 4.1.2 and the machine is back to working as it should without any drops. I would like to think Google does not break Android with updates... but we all know updates to any software poses the risk of introducing issues. Anyway, thanks so much for responding. I truly appreciate this community.
For yours and everyone else's information, Samsung note 8.0 uses Broadcom wireless interfaces. They are notorious to have connect issues by their archecture. I have had issues with N channel Broadcom devices with my router as other are few routers that connect well with them without any configuration.
Note... My laptop has a old broadcom adapter that will connect three different ways depending on the drivers I use. Windows drivers will allow a connection that will slowly go from 132mbps down to 48mbps and fail to wake. A custom inf with Acer drivers will connect at 82mbps and stay. While the general broadcom driver will connect at 56kbps.
The tablet never connected higher than 72mbps with my settings, but that was to connect my HP printer which is even worse to connect to older routers. I'll never buy HP again. They have cheapend their jet direct home enabled printers to be so unfriendly with existing components. Plus they have a security flaw that will disable the printer when port sniffed on closed ports, let alone open ports that HP will not disclose upon.
I would think a different driver was used in the new kernel, thus your issues with connectivity.
If I were to pick again for a tablet, I'd look for one with Qualcomm, as they are more likely to not have connect issues. D-link is not that compatible, as there have been many instances with peeps not obtaining 300mbps with N channel broadcom interfaces.
You may check with the forums on compatibility issues.

Thanks. That is extremely useful info. If this were a computer running Windows or Linux I could easily swap the wireless adapter with one made by a different vendor, load the drivers for the new adapter and be good to go. Maybe it is just as easy on a tablet... but I have never done that. Is it possible for the end user to manipulate the hardware inside a tablet? Could I swap the wireless adapters? Could I even find them for sale?
I have Samsung Note 10 Plus , it shows wi-fi 6 logo when connected to Asus Wifi-6 router AX88U. Sometimes, when I leave my home and come back, the Note 10 plus does connect to AX88U wifi-6 but the speed is slow (about 50 mbps on 200mbps connection). If I turn off wifi on my phone and turn it back again. I get blazing fast 226 mbps. I did check some forums and was advised to change phone wifi setting is to static IP with primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and secondary dns as 8.8.4.4 but this does not help.
Other steps taken: I disabled Wifi-6 on my router, but issue does not go away even when wifi ac (5Ghz) is being used.
Also, I have done "forget" network on phone, restart phone, reprogram Wifi setting. No use...
Another interesting fact: I have connected Netgear R7900 (wifi ac only, Mu-mimo) in AP mode to AX88U via cat7 cable. One day, I had observed that as I entered my home, my phone had connected to the Netgear router and the download speed was 200mbps with ping of 8 milliseconds. While I was roaming in the home, I was simultaneously browsing a few websites on my phone, and I observed the phone went from Netgear to ASUS router because I could see Wi-Fi logo without the Wi-Fi 6 symbol and then as soon as it hooked to Asus, I could see Wi-Fi logo with Wi-Fi 6 symbol. All of a sudden, the download speed as tested on speed test app went down from 200 Mbps to 6 Mbps. I switched off the Wi-Fi of my phone and switched it back again. the phone then connected with ASUS router on Wi-Fi 6 and the download speed was 200mbps. So this means that my phone performs very poorly when first-time re-connected to ASUS router. Would this be an issue with my phone not receiving signals properly - because of some issue while acting like a wifi-6 client?
Can someone please advise me how to have my phone connect to router with full internet speed? This only happens if I go out of home and come back in AX88U signal range. Also is this a router issue or phone issue? All other devices in my home are wireless ac (Wifi 5) only and have no issues with Asus router. Asus customer support is pointing finger on the Note 10 plus. Please help!
From what you've described here I would say the issue lies with the assus router. Since the netgear works fine.
On reconnect maybe it's not recognizing the phone properly. When it reconnects to your phone with slow speeds have you checked the router's connected device map? (shows what devices are connected to it) does it recognize properly?

Thank you lennie for your reply. Yes, the device shows up on clients list/ device map. Router does handshake immediately but does not transmit proper speeds. Only difference here is Netgear is AP and is Wifi 5 (ac Mu-mino), whereas Asus ax88u is Wifi 6, ax, main router. So phone does talk well to Netgear but in ac mode. Phone immediately talks to Asus in ax mode but slow speeds. If there is any other way out please let me know... TIA.

Hmmm have you tried to reset network settings on your phone yet? But I seriously think it's a problem with the router and not the phone.
Does this problem only happen to the Note 10 and no other device?
Have you checked for router updates?
Do you use a private DNS service? VPN?
Do you have WiFi power saving mode enabled?

Hi lennie
I did reset network settings, including forget network>reboot> re-program wifi password. Nothing worked. Router is updated. I do not use private DNS or VPN. Not sure about power saving, all settings are default... Also; in the past I used to have Netgear R7800 as main router and R6900P as AP, such incidents did not occur. Not sure where the problem lies. While contacting respective customer care, Asus blames Samsung and vice versa.

FYI for everyone - I just got on phone, my 4th time with Asus. They finally agreed that one more user was facing same issue so they have taken feedback seriously and are addressing this connectivity issue via another firmware update. No idea when this would be released. Asus asked me to return to original seller (an individual on eBay as it is within 30 days of purchase) or send to Asus for service. If service, then I will have to pay for shipping and arrange for a temporary router myself. Hence returning to seller on eBay. So we do have issues where router will not talk well with certain devices!

OK thought so. Glad to hear that they've taken your issue. There's a reason people don't buy Asus products anymore like they use to especially motherboards. They tend to do some things right and others just wrong which you usually don't find out until it's too late.

Thanks lennie - any suggestions for a good router? I have one R7800 acting like AP, handles about 15 devices on 2.4Ghz (IoT - smart plugs, 3 wifi cameras @720p, not too much data load; and AX88U main router that handles about 8 devices, where most work is done, like iPads, Cellphones, Laptops on 5Ghz. I need to choose one main new router as I want to get rid of AX88U. Shall I get another R7800 as I did not see any performance difference between Wifi 5 & 6 on a 200mbps bandwidth - or I have shortlisted Wifi-6 RAX80 Netgear as main router. Any advice? TIA!

Tell you the truth I wouldn't know. But I would go with what works, if the R7800 are works then I don't see why not.

I got informed via another forum subscription that a new AX88U firmware update was out.......
It also happened around the day I was in a bitter situation as I was waiting for seller on eBay to accept my return request. He is a good guy who did not use the router on Ax devices. Now that I have purchased from him and using it on ax client, we came across this issue. Immediately upon reading this note, I updated the router firmware. I then went outside my home for a short walk but when I came back, my cellphone still had poor download speed with router upon reconnecting on 5Ghz. I explained this new observation and sent screenshots of speedtest and the seller kindly accepted my return request. Sadly this update did not sort out my issue.
But here is the good part: I had purchased a new AX88U at full price from Amazon. Initially I noted my 2.4 Ghz speed was very poor 4-25 mbps even when "6" was seen in wifi logo, means cellphone and router were on some new signal standard. With this update, I am getting 7 ms ping and 120-130 mbps download speed (same speeds on 2.4 Ghz with the "faulty" router described above). So this update did really speed up the internet speeds most evidently seen on 2.4 Ghz frequency. Also worth noting: I am not having the "poor download speed upon reconnect" with the brand new router that I just got.
Hello from Germany
This is a bug i already noticed and spent hours and hours with my Note 10 Plus and Asus AX88U !!! Now after 2 Month i give up. If you have 2 same 5GHZ Networks in your house (for better coverage) with the same SSID you can
see what is happening. My Internet Provider Speed is 200 down and 80 up. When first connected to the Asus Wifi 6 Router everything is fine. Than when you go one floor up you will get connected to the Other (i have tested both Asus AI and also as normal Access point via Ethernet ) Router and everything is ok. But than when you go back and connect again with the Asus AX88u in Wifi6 the Download speed on my Note 10 Plus is capped at 4-7 mbps down and 10 up !!! from 200/80. This is only affecting on the new Asus AX88u and Note 10 Plus and it doasn't metter if you switch Wifi6 or use Wifi5 AC . I tested also without 160 Mhz and every other mode nothing is changing. The sync on the Note 10 Plus is 1200 mbps on 5 GHZ so the most possible sync between note 10 device and the Router !! But after you connect to the same SSID on other channel in your house you will have this bug when returning to the Asus AX88u ! Only way is WIFI off and ON and all Speed are back again on Note 10. I have written to Samsung but no one replyed. With other devices like IPAD Pro 12.9 2018 or some Xiaomi devices everything works fine. Only Note 10 Plus is having this Bug . Most of the People will not notice it because almost all services will run fine for them with 10 mbps but i do because i always have my note 10 with Network Data in Statusbar and want to know all the time my network speed etc.
Sry for my English but i hope you understand. Definitly a AX88u Bug !
UPDATE: I tested with new Firmware from 25 of November they seemed to fixed it !!!
Update again : The Bug is still there! Almost every time when u roam in your house and reach again the wifi 6 router from Asus.
Again I have two wifi in my house with same ssid and different channels. It doesn't matter if you put the second router in access point mode or normal router(connected via ethernet cat 6 to Asus) . I also tryed a second Asus Router in Asus Mesh mode wired and over WiFi. Still same behavior.
When first connected to the Asus rt ax 88u with my note 10 plus everything is fine. The wifi sync is 1200 mbps when in same room and I get all of my isp bandwidth 200/80 from my provider. When I move upstairs and reach the second Hotspot the phone automatically switches to the other router (also tested different once). Also here everything is OK you get the full bandwidth up and down. But as soon as you return to the wifi 6 coverage of the rt ax88u the wifi speeds are dropping to almost 4-7 mbps! Down and maximum 20-30 up. Really strange behavior the sync is normal with 1200 mbps but you get no bandwidth! When moving up to the other network everything works fine again.
Also tryed with switching of ax mode but same problem with AC mode. This is a huge bug with Galaxy note 10 plus and Asus AX 88u Router
I recently acquired the Tenda NOVA MW6 mesh network, and have noticed wifi speed issues only with my note 10, not with roku 4k, not with my box S, not with galaxy tab s6, only with note 10, my cablemodem, it has the option wifi, also had problems, also only with note 10 ....

Same here, also the Tenda NOVA MW6, and also only speed problems with my Note 10. The reason why t¡is because Note 10 connects to 2.4 Ghz network that seems to be much slower than 5Ghz. Sometimes, out of the blue, Note 10 connects to 5Ghz wifi and then no speed problems at all. I'm trying to find out how to force 5Ghz connection or how to turn off 2.4 Ghz on Note 10, but Google disabled that options in last Android version. So, there seems to be no solution, maybe rooting could solve the issue.
I am on the June update and ever since I installed a wifi 6 AP from zyxel my S22 drops the wifi connection every few minutes. It either stays omegle connected with about 2mbits or says connected no internet (with the exclamation on wifi symbol)
I tested this behavior on S21, ASUS ROG flow x13 and Intel WIFI Ax200 (PC). All of them are wifi 6 compatible and have no issues connecting.
My 5ghz and 2ghz bands are separate SSIDs, channels are checked and selected to free channels. AP is connected by LAN to router.
This issue doesn't seem to be that uncommon though, it's probably a QS issue or hardware/firmware related...
Should I contact Samsung? Do they offer replacements that are sent before I send mine back? Because I only have one phone atm and I can't reset it without another phone since there's multiple 2FA accounts etc that I would need to transfer first.
Just as an FYI, I work as an IT specialist and I checked everything so far. This issue is not caused by me or my network configuration!
I have this same issue with my new S22 so I don't think it's a problem with your phone. I have TP-Link Omada APs with the same SSID on both bands. All of my other devices work fine, but my S22 couldn't stay connected for more than a couple of minutes. I fixed it by creating a second SSID for 2.4ghz only and connecting my phone to that one. Now it stays connected most of the time. So I guess it's just the 5ghz band that the phone has problems with.
Do you know what chipset your Zyxel AP uses? Looking online, it's likely to be a Qualcomm IPQ8072. My Omadas use IPC8074 chips which are basically identical. Maybe there's some incompatibility between the phone and this chipset? Hopefully it will be fixed in a firmware release for one or the other...
