I have a Stock Motorola Z2 Play. My carrier keeps sending me messages saying it's going to be obsolete in January because of T-mobile VoLTE network upgrades.
I have been wanting this phone for years and finally pulled the trigger in March. Is there anything I can do to be able to make my phone compliant so I don't have to get a new phone?

So I was having an issue with upload speeds in another thread and one of the fine people of this forum informed me to check my build number because it might be fixed with the newest build. I checked and I was on the build that was shipped with the phone. I've had the phone since launch day and never received the update.
Well here's the kicker, I input a T-Mobile SIM in the Verizon phone from initial boot. I have not received an update since I turned on the phone 4 days ago and everyone has stated the newest update should come down within a few minutes on being turned on. I put a Verizon SIM in the phone and what do you know, the update came right down.
So I pose this question to the more informed than I am... Is the Verizon bootloader technically blocking updates to other carriers? Maybe you need to get the newest update and activate it on Verizon first then it will flow and act as unlocked?
I thought this would be important to the many who purchased from Verizon because of availability.
Others have reported getting updates with tmo and at&t sims already in other threads. ymmv
I have a Pixel XL with the latest Oreo build (OPR6.170623.011). Somehow, VoLTE never stays on my phone. I have to call Rogers and they "refresh the signal to the tower from my phone". Then, I can access VoLTE for a short while.
I was wondering, does flashing to the .12 would make any differences? Because this phone is an unlocked phone from Google Support (I received an RMA factory sealed XL). Previously, I had a Rogers bought Pixel XL. I'm just wondering if the wrong build is causing issues. What are the builds differences?
Also to note, this phone was on Koodo 2 weeks ago. I changed carrier because of the 30% corporate rebate. I did receive a "Carrier Update" this week through Google Play. I don't know if it helps knowing that?
I reported the issue to Rogers which they were supposed to fix (whitelisting the IMEI, I guess) my new phone since it was considered a non-Rogers device but they are taking so long to answer the ticket, I wanna try reinstalling (at the same time it would clean my device).
did you ever get them to "whitelist" your replacement phone?
I can confirm, that they do not allow non rogers branded devices the ability to use ims services (VoLTE, video calling, and WiFi calling)
I have an active complain in with the CCTS and am trying to get them to "whitelist" me, but they say that is not possible *EYEROLL* cant get to talk to a network technician or architect unfortunately.
Flash the fi/Canada firmware.

How do you know that works?
Looking at getting a Moto Z2 Force directly from Motorola since it's on sale at the moment for Mother's Day for $500
https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-z-force-edition-gen-2/ecomm
But when I go to select one I am asked to choose a carrier. And a chat session with Moto support says the phones are carrier locked.
That seems very strange for a phone bought with no plan. Is it hard to unlock?
Thanks
T-Mo one can just be unlocked with an active SIM, no other need for it. Other carriers, I don't know about.
If you get the TMobile version from Moto bear in mind you will have to go through a bunch of hoops to get it unlocked after you qualify. The IMEI never makes it to TMobile for them to unlock so you have to do a stupid appeals process over Facebook of all things. It adds almost and extra month to the unlock time.
I got an essential phone and the z2 force for essentially the same price, and decided to keep this att version of the z2 force, however the issues I am having are making me rethink my decision and either get a different z2 force version or keep the essential.
1-Bluetooth lags and messes up a lot with my Klipsch soundbar, doesn't happen with any other phones.
2-Hotspot doesn't work(I am on cricket)
3-It won't update to android 8.0, it's still stick in 7.1 and maybe an att sim will fix it but again I have seen tons of people with the same issue and a warranty claim is needed.
4-Not being able to root or unlock the bootloader kills it's future proof potential.
Since Motorola doesn't sell a factory unlocked version of the phone, what would be the best version for rooting and whatever else which would probably take care of all my issues? I heard T-Mobile is the one but what do you guys think?
Thanks!
Do a warranty replacement and get an OREO phone. They might be willing to get you a T-Mobile version instead of your AT&T version if you mention your carrier is T-Mobile.

Will they do that, is that confirmed? Or are you just suggesting to give that a try?
They mentioned something about how to deal with a phone which is sim unlocked when setting up the return. I don't know for certain but you will see what I mean when you start the process for a warranty swap
My son had a T-Mobile branded S20 5G and I moved our service to Verizon. I paid his phone off and got it unlocked. Everything was working fine up until a couple of weeks ago. He did an update (didnt pay attention to what kind of update) and now he cant make or recieved calls or text (keepin mind the phone was working fine before this update). Attempts to call result in a message from Verizon saying that they cant authenticate his phone.
I *****ed at Samsung for a bit since his phone isnt rooted and even though its over a year old if a software update bricked it, I felt like they should have some ownership of the issue. It was a waste of time so now I'm back on the phone waiting for VZW tech support.
I think the issue is that its a TMO branded phone on VZW's network and everyone is pointing the finger at everyone else. My question is 2 fold.
1) has anyone ever experienced this before, and if so what did you do to resolve it and
2) I will attempt to root it and flash a ROm on it before I entertain buuying another phone.....hes got enough other **** hes dealign with financially he doesnt need to add a new phone purchase to his plate.
Any help would be much appreciated because I'm pissed the eff off at this point.
Yes we tried different APN settings...he walked into a VWZ store and they were able to get his data working but not voice or text....seems like something is out of whack with his radios). We also did a full factory reset.....same issue persists
I am not an expert on ROMs but I will give you my two cents. When I was playing with my unlocked phone, I realized that mine updated some CSC binaries as soon as I inserted the SIM. I saw some message for it updating the CSC code from XAA to TMB when I inserted TMO SIM on stock firmware. So my suggestion would be to try downloading VZW stock firmware from samfw.com and installing that.
