GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! WE'VE GOT A DELIVERY
Hello,
First of all, some good news to everybody in Turkey who has been afflicted by the IMEI problem. We have produced a working solution and intend to make it available to the Turkish public for FREE, as promised.
The procedure was tested on my i-mate k-jam which I unlocked successfully. I cannot express the sheer joy when my phone picked up the signal and remained connected! It worked!!!
Alas, my own overconfidence in this victory that came after a lot of hard work and research, resulted in me baking my i-mate's ROM during an attempted ROM upgrade. So I cannot enjoy my phone right now, however, this was not caused by our IMEI update process, which works fine. I just damaged my DOC while being careless with the latest "Self-Cooked" ROM, a most cavalier act indeed.
Now, this whole IMEI issue has drawn a lot of heat on the forums. I have been personally accused of being a thief, a hacker, among other things. I only have good intentions in mind, but I also want to consult with everybody in this forum, to put my ideas to the test of the real world (especially Richard's vicious criticism will at least provide a reality check as to the feasibility of our ideas).
Project goals:
1) Mechanism should only work in Turkey
2) Mechanism should only work once for each person
3) Mechanism should be free
4) Mechanism should be easy to use
Proposal for implementation:
1) To realize a Turkey-lock, we'll impose an IP address restriction. No IP outside of Turkey will ever work.
2) To realize the person-lock, we'll prevent the unlock wizard from running more than once on any given piece of hardware. We will also ban the tool from running on VMware/Virtual PC systems, to make sure people cannot side-step our hardware lock.
3) Free - that's easy! We just won't charge for it.
4) Easy to use - that can be harder, but we'll give it our best.
Please let us have your thoughts...and thanks to everybody who contributed to this project.
We'd like to make the product as solid as possible, so the restrictions cannot be circumvented, and this won't become a tool that the real thieves can use to unlock their phones. Any technical implementation suggestions on getting this done, including making our product binaries harder to hack, and making it harder to sidestep our limitations, are VERY welcome.
Don't worry - we won't force you to use a dongle! But we'll still do everything in our power to guarantee fair use of the tool, once per person.
Good work mimarsinan. We'll chat later... just reinstalled Comprexx Time for bed now

Hope CXX took in the serial now!

I had to CID unlock the phone before our IMEI method would work. The method is not limited to Universal, but works on a wide variety of HTC phones, including Wizard which was my model.
It is really a shame nobody had a public tool that did this before. And Raskal, in all fairness, if you had made it easy for me to find a solution, I wouldn't have bothered to setup this project, work on it for a week, and finally manually unlock my phone.
I now have to keep my promise to the community and make the tool available for free as promised.

you have not made solution becuase you simply not have the background to do such tools. it is from mamaich, he is good in this what he do, you are just an "ibne", nothing more or less...
Guys. please be respectful to each other.
You can argue about technical solutions, but I'm not going to be your mother and spank you for being naughty.
Treat each other with the same respect you would like to be treated, and then we'll all be happy.
Hi Raskal,
I understand you feel angry and threatened that soon a free tool will be launched which does the same thing your commercial tool does.
While some people in Turkey would take great offence to being called "gay" (ibne means ****** in Turkish for those who do not know), I am very comfortable with my heterosexual sexual identity, and I have no problems with homosexuals, be they gays or lesbians. Of course, it hurts if some girl I have a crush on turns out to be a lesbian, but such is life
I have done nothing to offend you, other than complain about the difficulties of your fulfillment process, which drove me to implement this project in the first place. If you had had a better fulfillment process, this would never have happened.
Yes, I most certainly do not have the background to implement this project, but I have been helped by people (I don't think mamaich - unless he uses a different nick on other forums I have visited). I most certainly could not have done this alone. I am grateful for the help and support I have received from people during this project.
The sole intent of this project has been to solve a problem, I have stated from the beginning it is a non-commercial venture. I am getting PMs from people on the forums asking for help - these people need help, the same way I needed help. I have been called a hacker, a thief, a government agent under cover, and now gay, for this effort. Sorry, but by now I would have thought that you'd have already figured out these defamations and assaults do not deter me, but instead increase my motivation to get the job done faster.
I wish there was some way I could make peace with you and Richard, but you guys seem truly hell bent on doing everything in your power to stop me, well, what do you want me to do?
Am I going to be nice to the two people who have been unfriendly at best and outright hostile and rude in every sense of the word, and cease this project? Or am I going to honor the request of all those people who have kindly asked me for help with this situation?
You have a commercial tool and you are making a profit out of people who are either in possession of stolen cell phones, or are inconvenienced by government regulations. I rest my case.
Well said mimarsinan.
The board is aimed at XDA Developers. Mimarsinan set his mind to a task and came up with a solution. The burden is on him to take control of the release of that solution.

I confirm it was not me. My method works for HTC Universal only.
You are welcome Mimarsinan! We are waiting for the solution of your hard work. I lost my original IMEI number after a repair. The technician changed my ROM chip, the IMEI was changed and he said that he could not get the IMEI back. Now I want to get it back.

Help needed
Hey
Am desperate with this phone registration process here. I've paid the tax and turkcell is still playing around and not completing the registration. My last resort is to change the IMEI number of my cell. How can I use this service of yours? They are going to shut down my cell in three days... darn!
hey, i recently joined this page on facebook (i've withheld the name of the page as to not seem like i'm here to promote it or such, not that it requires promotion with its 2 million members) and a many of us including the owner of the page there are a free-thinking bunch. The problem is that whenever some user finds something we say offensive, we get reported and are blocked from posting for 10-12 hours, sometimes entire days...
The gracious admin there took it upon himself to finance an entirely new site as a refuge for us. But most of lack the technical know-how of getting a site up and running. We have a few volunteers ready to devote their time and skills to help in the site's construction.
The owner suggested a forum-esque feel to the site rather than something like facebook itself and when anyone mentions forum the only thing my mind thinks is XDA!! This site is the epitome of what a forum should be about!!
So i was hoping if anyone could give me some sort of information as to what the site is based on (HTML, PHP, etc)? what type security measures should we be looking at? we read something about a using social networking engines to enable features like instant messaging...
i was hoping if someone could point me (and by relation, us) in the right direction.
Any help would be much appreciated.

This site is running on vBulletin 3.8.6 which is commercial software. There are free bulletin boards out there. As for security, this is a massive topic that I don't think anyone can summarise. Obvious things like good password policies (long and random, never re-used, etc) and keeping all software patched up to date are key. Other than that it all depends on the implementation. Also, there are penetration testing tools that you can find off the internet to test your site.

thanks a million Dave. i'll look into it and pass the message on to our group.

What Dave said, but beware that your site is only as secure as the system it runs on.
Your system can be the most secure in the world, with lovely nice PHP code, the latest patched vBulletin install, and I might still get into it...
If you are using shared web hosting, and some peon is using an out of date wordpress install, they can likely wreak a fair bit of havock on a poorly setup server.
Unfortunately most shared hosting is poorly setup. If you have 2 million members, you WILL need dedicated server space. I would also suggest you need to seriously consider the undertaking here - 2 million people is A LOT, and I don't know how many simultaneous users you are talking about, but it sounds a big target...
You will need a fairly powerful server from the sounds of it. I would suggest looking at the available forum systems, installing them (free ones), or trying out the demos.
I assist in the running of a number of sites, from single figure numbers of visitors per day, through to hundreds of thousands/millions per day... The requirements for these differ HUGELY. While something free like SMF might be good for a site with 200 folk, it's not likely a good idea on a site with 100,000 visitors per day posting...
Consider backup strategies too, for WHEN the worst happens - not if... Where will you store backups? How will you secure them?
Finally, remember to look to the future. phpBB is pretty poor, I suggest avoiding it. But what will you move to next? Make sure you pick a system that ain't gonna die tomorrow... If it does, you are stuck without security updates, and you might find it hard to migrate to another one... Be sure to go with a system that has good support to migrate further if/when the time comes...
woah!! ok, this was a big help...although we have close to 2 million people signed on, only about 30 - 40% of those are regularly active and perhaps 100 or so who're almost always there...
i saw BBCode implementation at linux mint forums and found it a total fail compared to XDA...i had completely forgotten about the back-up portion...
knew i could count on XDA for a lil' help...God i love this site!!

Haha no worries.
From those figures I would size the site based on coping with 5000 simultaneous users minimum. I doubt you will get as much tbh, as many people hit the homepage and look at the latest, then go to the next site they visit.
If you can afford, aim to cope with 10k+ simultaneous, to cover you for if you get a bout of publicity...
I'd reckon on a well-run server you would be OK with 8 to 16 GB of RAM, and a few hundred gigabytes of hdd. Bandwidth is hard to gauge without info on the site and content...
But I think it could be run for under $400 per month, and that is a very high estimate to cover things like multiple backup locations.
You will instantly ruin your site reputation if you need to use backups and they don't work...
If nobody is experienced in server management, hire someone to do it. These things are often best left to the experts where you are unsure... It will likely pay for itself in their expertise at least 3 times a month (or at least that's how often some of my clients proclaim I saved their "lives" )
Greetings all
im currently looking for a thesis topic to graduate, and im interested in NFC
My supervisor asked me to prepare a proposal about the subject, he suggested that i choose an "application" or a certain aspect of NFC to study, i have an idea about maybe doing a comparing study about NFC Security techniques and methods, since one payment is probably the most famous application of NFC, however i cant really say that i know much about NFC, in fact i barely know anything about it, i'm a telecom student, and i'd appreciate if some of you can point me to some reading material or give me some pointers that wud help me preparing the proposal and eventually the thesis itself.
thanx in advance and best regards to all
Well since nobody else has replied to this, I'll help you out. NFC is short for near field communication. NFC builds on RFID systems that allows two way communication between end points. RFID was first patented in 1983. That's pretty general, I know a lot about NFC so if you have any specific questions I can help you there.
For more general information I'd recommend http://www.nearfieldcommunication.org
Good luck with your thesis my friend!
Just don't say you got help from a 15 year old...

Security seems to be a main concern this days. NFC advantages are aplenty, however no one is really concerned about the security aspect of it. i.e. hacking NFC or being able to track a person by their NFC capable phone etc. etc.
I would show that NFC can be easily read for instance passports, credit cards etc... Show the techniques used to circumvent reading i.e. hashing, pin codes.
In the end describe a theoretical approach that it can make nfc's security better.
In the end you just need to be able to defend your approach against other professors so keep in mind you need to be well aware of the subject.
This is my idea and this is how i would approach the subject. Im sure there are hundreds of other applications out there that you can ellaborate on.
Sounds cool though good luck.
thank you all

Hi There I have scoured the XDA forums for up to date information on either the LDU S10 or Note 10 device range. Unfortunately there seems to be very little information on hand, which is unusual considering there are loads of threads about previous Galaxy S series LDUs and retail mode disabling.
If anyone has information about disabling retail mode on the current generation devices, your help is much appreciated.
Note: The password 5444 trick that used to work no longer does, which would allow factory reset and MDM removal. Now I don’t plan on taking a gamble using ODIN to try and flash stock N975F onto my N975X device for fear of bricking. I have successfully flashed S6 devices in the past but I’m a bit more reluctant with the lack of info on hand.
Any help is much appreciated, those of you who might be inclined to post ‘This is a retail device, you shouldn’t have it’ - I would politely state I bought this on ebay as a legitimate listing and would like to use it for Android Studio App development for my final year college project. I have used LDUs in the past as an access point to development on Android as my daily driver is iOS and I wanted to break away from Xcode for a different challenge. I do computer science and have a passion for smartphones so spending 1200€ to do App testing on a Note10 Plus is not an option when I paid similar for my daily driver.
To clarify when I say a ‘legitimate ebay listing’ - if I can purchase on ebay with my own money that is my business and clearly satisfies eBays user agreement. Thanks in advance, all info welcome.
Same here
