Screen protector speaker and prox sensor issues? - Google Pixel 5 Accessories

Does anyone have a glass screen protector installed and know if it affects the speaker quality? Also, since the proximity sensor is underneath the screen I'm also questioning the functionality if there is no cutout for it in the screen protector itself. Please comment, test if you already have the phone and have a screen protector, glass or otherwise.

Hi,
I do use the OMOTON glass screen protector from Amazon, currently out of stock however.
It doesn't have any cutout or punch hole and I'm perfectly happy with it. No degradation on sound and selfie picture quality as far as I can tell.

Does it interfere with the proximity sensor? Does the screen turn off when you place the phone to your ear when on a call?

Ive got the OMOTON but find that the touch sensitivity is a bit hit and miss. How are you finding it ? I purchased from Amazon as well.

Proximity sensor is working correctly as far as I can tell. As I put the protector on directly after receiving the phone I didn't exactly run a before / after test but don't have any issues with it.

Here again can't say I encounter any issues. I do sometimes miss the "back" gesture swiping from the right border to the middle; might be due to the combination of the Google case + screen protector (or due to the protector or just me) but overall it's ok.

Just tested with my Brotect Liquid Glass protector, no issues with the proximity sensor, and the speaker has been fine.

Thanks, just purchased the OMOTON on Amazon.

Regarding the zoombar...

I got a used touch pro 2, and the previous owner seems to have placed a rubbery type screen protector (zagg?? I don't know)...does this affect the zoombar, as it covers the entire screen from above the earpiece to below the 4 buttons?

I have a no-name screen protector on mine, but it seems to be better-than-decent quality (slick and strong, in addition to being rather thick).
It covers the whole front of the phone (zoombar included), and doesn't seem to affect it's sensitivity at all, it actually reacts differently to fairly minor variances in pressure and placement of my finger.
Does anyone have a rubbery type of screen protector on their phone? And if so, has.it affected your zoombar? Mine doesn't seem to work,.and.I'd hate to take off the current screen protector just to check to see if it's working...

I use Best Skin Ever, and no difference between the twitchy zoom bar before and after.

Heads up on proximity sensor problem with Skinomi

This is a heads up for anybody else that starts having problems with their phone not waking up once the screen goes blank after taking a call:
I put a skinomi kit on my defy, and it works great EXCEPT it fools the proximity sensor thereby rendering the phone unusable! Once in a call and the screen goes blank, there's no way to wake it back up. Strangely, even the power button doesn't do anything.
I used a proximity test program from the market to verify the problem, and sure enough, as soon as I pulled the screen protector off, everything started working fine again! And no, there was not dust/dirt/smudges on the screen protector - must be just the density of the material...
i've to disagree with you ,,,i installed the skinomi kit on my phone maybe 3 months ago,and none of what you say happened even once, your skinomi must by yellow as hell, that's why its missing around with your proximity.just my opinion.
nopr, no yellow.just put it on a couple days ago-very clear.
does yours have a cutout for the proximity sensor? maybe just a hardware variation...
Nope,my kit is full body coverage, with no cuts,so either your proximity sensor is faulty or you got a skinomi knockoff.

I can verify that the proximity sensor has issues with skinomi .
Had the same problem ,and solved it with cutting out the part of the screen protector that was covering the sensor .
Since then ,no problem.
Just received a replacement from Skinomi. Same problem - no cut out and the proximity sensor does not work. Manually cut out the area with some scissors, and all is well (but looks bad).
Might be a hardware difference between different variations, but there's definitely a problem for certain models!
I've just received a new Skinomi skin. The area around proximity sensor is cut, so there should be no problem with it anymore. I have not installed it yet though.
Installed it. Works fine. Definitely looks better than bestskinsever I had on my iPhone. Bestskins had an orange peel, Skinomi is smooth. Installation is the same.

[Short Review]Recommended Fully Adhere - Tempered Glass

Hi all,
We all know how hard it is to find a good Tempered glass for a smartphone with curving edge display,
That also the case with our Pixel 2 XL
Luckily, finally i managed to found tempered glass that has full adhesive, case friendly, and doesn't break our bank account,
Here's the product : Tempered Glass for Google Pixel 2XL Screen Protector FULL GLUE Case Friendly Premium Screen Glass Protector For Google Pixel2XL
http://s.aliexpress.com/qqYVbYFZ?fromSns=Copy to Clipboard
(from AliExpress Android)
Price : $11.77 include free shipping,
It took week till it arrive to my door. Item shipped from Hongkong, am living in Indonesia
Packaging : its good and safe. Tempered glass placed inside a sterofoam box .
Installation : Now, this is the tricky part, although it has full adhesive, the installation wont go as simple as installing other (ex iPhone) full adhesive TG. It (the adhesive) tends to spread unevenly causing bubble.
The trick is to go from the corner, while keep the other corner floating, press the glass with two or more finger ensuring no bubble appear in the process.
It will take sometimes till you get it right with zero bubble,
But the result is rewarding. It perfectly fit, and can be used with cases as well. I use it with original google fabric case.

Yes. Doesn't look like it cuts off the edges too badly. What I was waiting on but not sure I want to deal with Ali.

It was quite gambling for me as well, lol,
But since i have no other option available in my country, u guess i have nothing to lose for 12 bucks.
Now am waiting a case to arrive
Looks good. I just don't understand why they make the top and bottom black instead of clear if it is full adhesive.
I'm guessing this is the same product as HeroShield. Looks the same. My HeroShield should arrive in a few weeks, so we'll see.
Does it have a cut out for the proximity sensor? I don't mean just a transparent window, proper gap/no glass bit over the sensor. I can't see from the photos
how is the screen feel and oleophobic coating? Does the finger glide eaily on the screen?

Its because although the adhesive on the display area is full, there's lil gap on the edge area where it doesn't have the adhesive, i guess due to the curve, it still not possible to create fully transparent glass protector with full adhesive. I never seen one for popular phone like iphone either. All iphone x glass protector has coloring as well.
The only real transparent protector with full adhesive is whitestone probably, but thats using low viscosity loca to begin with, so its different story, not to mention the skyhigh price.

It doesn't. It have a transparent window with adhesive under . It stick perfectly though, thus no interference to the proximity function. I try make a call and place finger over the sensor, it work normally

Nothing extraordinary regarding the coating i guess. Finger glide nicely just like on original screen. But it collecting fingerprint overtime. (Am one of those guy who have wet hand all the time though, so my experience with fingerprint might be severe than how it should) :silly:
ordered! hope it will arrive soon!
btw do you have to tear it out to re position it when you are applying on the screen?

You need to lift it off if you already stick large area of it prior to reposition,
Positioning is quite easy though, the harder part is to push the glass slow and even.
I'd almost be interested, but I try to stay away from protectors that cover the proximity sensor. I know it works sometimes, I've just been bitten by it too many times on phones where it causes issues.
Here's HeroShield's install video. Seems like they include a squeegee with theirs to help with the bubbles.
Mine comes today, so I'll see what it's like too.

Can see from the video that it has glass covering the sensor, so it will be hit or miss. Some will have no issues with the sensor. Others will.
Mine will be here in a few weeks, so I'll see then too.
Hi OP... Are you able to post some picts of the top and bottom edge of the phone? Or a pict that can somehow show the gap of the side of the protector to where it meets the screen. Just curious to see if there is a slight gap as there is no adhesive there. Since I go case less, I am afraid I will always crack the glass because of this gap. Thanks in advance!
Something like this ?
Those picts are good!!! thanks!!!

Question [PSA] UV Tempered Glass that works with FP w/o the dot glue

The tile says it all.
This: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09KC72DWF
Work with the FP scanner, without the dot glue and is tempered glass.
I f***up and even though I used the tape, got glue in my speakers. It was a pain in the @$$ to take out and I had to use a sewing needle once it cured. So be careful!
Otherwise, the install was easy.
Also, "Currently unavailable" unfortunately. But thank you.

Some glass protectors have a spot where the fingerprint reader is located to improve responsiveness, so the rest of the protector is "floating" over the screen, but at that position, it sticks. It may work, but it's ugly as f*** and completely breaks the apparel of the phone. I guess for what he describes this one comes with the LOCA bottle you have to pour over the screen and then cure with the UV light.

Oh I've seen those but they where mostly made to deal with the issue of ultrasonic fp sensors. Didn't know they made them for optical sensors, I guess trying to help with the P6 sub par sensor. And yeah they look ugly af

For what it's worth, my P6P in-screen optical fingerprint reader works perfectly for me, and my Samsung Galaxy Note 10+'s in-screen ultrasonic fingerprint reader was pretty terrible.
Honestly, I've not had any issue with the FP reader, coming from a OnePlus 7 Pro I feel it even quicker than there, so I don't quite get all the hassle.
BTW, reading the good comments from the Mocolo glass protectors I just ordered one, let´s see when I apply it if the FP reader keeps working as intended.

This is correct.
My FP scanner works amazing well. Way better than the OP 7 Pro on my parent's phone.
This screen protector was worth the hassle it took to install.

I tried the UV glue glass. And glue went in to my speaker too, then the volume of my upper speaker become very low. When I make phone calls I cannot hear anything. I tried all the method but cannot sovle it. So I have no way but to disamble the screen and clean inside. Now it's better but I can tell it's not like before. I guess there are still some UV glue block the outlet of upper speaker. I figure out if you want to disamble the upper speaker and clean the outlet you need to remove the battery and main board first, which is not easy so I gave up.
Btw I did tape the speaker but UV glue went in. And I also find out once glue flow in to gap between screen and frame , after you UV light it , it get hard and swollen which will make the gap larger.
Although tempered glass feels really good and has no impact on FP sensor, I just went back to film screen protector after this terrible experience

Youve got to be very, very careful with the UV glue and use a good strong tape to cover all the openings. I runied my Oneplus 8 Pro because of the glue but my P6P install was good.
Yes. The tempered glass protector I have only leave me with around 1 mm between the glass edge and the upper speaker slot. So it's impossible for me the apply a tape cover the speaker effectively.

I used a sewing needle to get under the glue and pull it out. Don't worry, the speaker gills are kinda deep. That said, be careful and don't just ignore that's the speaker is there lol.

Question what is the dot at the left of the inner screen camera?

i noticed a dot / circle at the left side of my inner screen camera. i can't say if it's another sensor or if it's a air bubble on the built-in screen protector. i've watched a few unboxing videos but the only time i saw it is on zack's teardown video --
. anyone knows what it is? thanks!
It's a proximity sensor.
