As the title says, Im a developer but I dont know anything majorly complicated.
I want YOUR ideas for something to make.
Stuff I know:
Things to do with the file system - copy, paste, delete, create etc
Read/write/create text files
Simple or even more complex UIs (nothing too extreme though)
most of the basic stuff
Heres a video of stuff Ive done before:

If you have any idea for simple apps, please let me know and Ill tell you if I can make them or not
Thanks
Maybe a new app to replace and improve SmileySMS ( development is stopped, and on windows mobile we can't have smileys in sms without this buggy app).
I wish a prog for my HD2, very simple : Use Webradio (with url) as ringtone !
Hi Cris,
I am looking for an app that can do the following:
Disable the touchscreen.
Why?
It's annoying when you watch movies and accidentaly touch the screen (especially with core player).
The app would have to disable the touchscreen after a set time, so you have enough to start the movie (or other application).
A certain area of the screen would have to be defined as touchable, so that you can disable again. Maybe with a gesture? ie. swipe from bottom left hand corner to top right???
just an idea

it would be amazingg if you could make an application that allows the drag down notifications panel like android has

Can I suggest a application that can do 2 things which I can't find something similar to this (suggestion).
To create a application for both "Shopping List" + "Inventory".
Let me know if you interested, I can share the idea ..
Hope you can consider it .. thanks

how about an application like e-mail and walk for the iphone..........so that wed be able to type and walk at the same time with the background being whats in front of us fed by our camera....
I would like a app that does the following:
All for the Sense music tab!
When NOT in a call:
Long press : Play / pause
Pressed twice : Next song
(If possible:
Pressed three times: previous song
pressed shot : call)
When you are being called:
short press: pickup / hangup
PLUS
The hardware buttons (buttons on the PHONE) MUST be disabled,
But ONLY when the headset is plugged in!
With no headset plugged in everything should be as normal!
Could some developer please make this?
Maybe you can use code from the following:

Great Greet Giblet
I've actually been pitching this one around but no luck yet ... A small GPS toggle cmd app. Here's an OSS project that may have usefull code.
What I would like it to have is:
1- Commands to toggle GPS on or off
2- Stay running and output number of connected satellites and connection status (position fixed/not fixed) as a reg name/value
3- Maybe other stuff (like coordinates, hour/date, update system time... but what I really want is the first point 1 and 2).
Why would I want such an app? To add a GPS connection manager to my today screen HS++ skin (also maybe make a script that will only launch my device navigation software when it has a position fix).
PS:
Other stuff I'd like to see are either other small cmd apps or small updates/fixes of some OSS apps like GSFinder+ or even emulators (small stuff like adding onscreen controls using existing sources, emulate mutli touch or improving controls by mixing the use of oncreen keys with hw ones or minor GUI standardization and fixes related with new devices screen resolution).

Slide2Action
Hi cris, How about a simple slide to do anything? Just a scrollable list of blank sliders that you can assign a function too, eg launch an app, blank screen, reset, close all, new message, WiFi, bluetooth etc. the list could be endless. Just a scrollable action screen with sliders instead of buttons. Transparency would be a bonus for a nice visual.
well folks, youve given me plenty of ideas.
A few of them ill try to work on, sadly many of your ideas are a little beyond me
Anyway, Ive got some stuff to be doing so I wont be checking out this thread anymore.

Hi Cris,
if you can consider my suggestion to develop a "shopping List" + "Inventory" apps I think is not that difficult to develop. It almost similar to like any shopping list app & you be able to keep track of the inventory list maybe with photo or pic is good enough.
pls do consider this apps, as both iPhone & WinMo still do not have such app yet. If you do build up, you will be the 1st to come out with.

yes let's steal some more apple patents!!! The idea is great! Few months ago I already asked this topic in the S2U thread but no response, probably my request got overseen or the guy is just too busy with other stuff.
Hello guys,
yesterday I used the Samsung Memo to write a few phone numbers down, I was going to call them all later and didnt want to create new contacts for these people, so copied the first number, pressed home button, went to the phone app pasted the number and dialed. Good.
then I used the hold pressing the home button and flipped over to the memo app again. A BLANK PAGE greeted me... ie, there was no multitasking, the app cleared itself when I returned to home via the home button.
so how is this (NON) multitasking better than my wife's iphone?
hmmm, perhaps not?

Wrong forum. Shoo!
I'll answer your question though: The Samsung apps are not well made. Search the market for 'notes' and use a better one. Just because the app is included, doesn't mean it's any good. The market is there for a reason - in fact, it's the whole point of Android.

oops, wrong forum, sorry, I had two tabs open on the browser and created a new topic in the wrong one...
so would it follow that android does not natively multitask, like ANY app in windows would keep your info if you Alt-Tabbed to another app then back again? it seems that APPS have to be written for multitasking as much as iOS ones do.
tx for other app tip, will check it out.
Mark.
Android has no problem with multitask, in fact, it has the better multitask-system that could exists (maybe the WebOS is better...).
When you develop an application for android, you have to choose what happens when the user press the "Home" button. Usually, developers chooses to backup the state of the application for the next launch (= multitask without memory usage).
But Samsung, for the Memo app, just choosed to... close definitely the App. That's all
But there is a lot of "Memo-like" apps in the market (for free) wich doesn't have this issue.
(excuse my english)

I can go back to memo and not lose it.
Op Learn how to use the phone. Then complain. Can your wifes I phone run run widgets? Customize the home screen? Change icons? Change launcher and lockscreen? Can you bind secondary functions to hardware buttons and soft keys to navigate to common functions faster? Do the notification interfere with what you are in the middle of? Is it dlna certified? Can it text to contact groups? Run google voice and transcribe your voicemail to text? Does it take panoramic photos? Play windows media? Does it take ota updates? I can go on....
The old iphone's lack of multitasking helped to idiot proof it and save battery which is what some people need. the idea of multitasking in ios 4 scares me. Ask those simple people that have no need for a smart phone other than its trendyness trying to do two things at once!
Android takes getting used to. It doesn't do anything for you, you are in control and that can be its strength as well as weakness.
You should be able to go to the home screen during a call and re-enter the dialer from the phone icon in the tray to add contacts without affecting the ongoing call. To re-enter the call you go through the notification bar.
(call will still be active but to get to the speaker phone and touch tone contols and have the proximity sensor turn the the screen off when phone is at you ear you go through the notification bar, or maybe the long press home method but I never tried that)
Hitting the back buton exits and is a necessary evil as a way not to leave apps running but not knowing that back kills the app and home doesn't will have you saying WTF all the time.

well yeah the symbian "real" multitasking is so graet that if you leave 2 apps open you can hardly make a call.
btw as mentioned before in android theres real multitasking its just up to the developer.
some apps like motonav go on running when you open another app and you can hear the voice directions.
but thank god most apps dond do so. i dont want my nfs shift to run in the background while im trying to run another game
Just the other day i was thinking of a way to implement a webos like card interface and i had an idea.
Is it possible to create a large widget showing open apps with a card like style and a screenshot of the app taken while pressing the home button?
I'm not a programmer so i am simply asking if this is possible.
Swipe to close could be another nice feature to it.
If this is possible and there is a programmer willing to try please contact me.

I don't know about Meego, but Symbian multitasking is as basic as it gets. Run a couple of apps in the background, then try browsing the net in Opera Mobile. 5 Minutes later with 3 tabs open Opera has to shut down due to no memory left. Nice real multitasking
Should be better with Symbian 3, but it's still a basic system that may have to shut down apps and lose work.
I'm looking forward to Meego's release though, finally some decent competition for Android. Kinda sad that Meamo is abandoned due to it though.
There's nothing fake about Android multitasking. A developer chooses what happens to the app when the use hits the back key or home key. Usually it exits when the back key is hit, or goes to the background when the home key is hit.
Different apps may work differently, it's up to the developer to decide. If an app has to shut down due to low memory, it can save its state first so that you don't lose anything.
Can't blame Android for Samsung's crappy memo app.

I don't know what you are doing but Symbian has REAL multitasking, not matter how much you don't like it. The sluggish response (in SOME phones) is a HARDWARE limitation, not the OS, that despite being old, it's a very capable OS.

I know it's real multitasking, I was just mocking how badly it handles low memory. At least with Android apps can save their state in that situation, and the app you are actually using is the last one that would be closed.
I expect Symbian 3 to improve that though.
Android mutitasking isn't any less real than the rest. It just works differently. If it goes wrong then it can generally be blamed on the app, since they have full control of what happens in various situations. Unlike Symbian where they can just get shut down without a chance to save anything.
Samsung just didn't program their memo app to save its state. Theres better apps to do the job.
Which of all these posts are related to development you say?
And now for the off-topic:
@OP: Don't get me wrong, not trying to be rude or anything, but you really don't understand yet how the phone works. If you hold the home button and switch between applications the text will be there when you go back. That's multitasking, as simple as that. If samsung's applications are crap that's another thing (which btw I agree, 42mb on apps removed from jpc and still works like crap, will try a fresh froyo build and see what happens then),
All this should be on the general section. Any mod out there willing to move this thread out of the dev forum please?
Regards

This is possible. You can catch draws, as well as everything else that would be needed. It would probably need a homescreen replacement.
Basic idea: catch when an app is going to background, call a draw to an offscreen buffer, then show it on the mainscreen as a screenshot. Not sure how easy any of this would be, since I've never tried to make a homescreen replacement.

By your great conclusion, so Android should have the same performance on the HTC Tattoo and the Galaxy S right?
The point is, there are different hardwares with the same OS. You cannot compare an N82 with a C7 right? sigh...

Well, glad to know that my idea is doable, the only problem is that i lack the skills, and even the tools to make something like this (any suggestion appreciated).
Hope some developer likes my idea and tries to realize it
lol, this thread is very, very stupid but nevertheless i want to throw in my 5 cents:
android has real multitasking. the system however can kill an app at any time when it feels like it needs the resources, this is maybe what happened to the OP. bad work by samsung because it could have saved the state to "disk". stupid of the OP because he obviously didn't push "save". good night and good luck!
would it be possible to Reassign the search button to lets say google ?
and is there some dev that can make it happen
As far as I know it is not possible at the moment.
But I'd like to extend that question to a more general use of that button.
For me it happens rather often, that I just hit the search button without me wanting to use it. Do you think there might be the chance of deactivating that whole thing in certain applications?
For now, it's not possible (with official API) to disable the search button.
I have the feeling that this may change in future updates.
Concerning the search engine, I think I've seen a registry entry which points to Bing, it may be worth the try to change it
This will probably need to behacked in since Microsoft is really trying to push Bing theyre not going to let anyone just change it to google.
I also thought that these three buttons are mandatory for every WP7 device. Don't think that from the MS side this will change, or that they will give the option to disable this button.
Personally I don't mind having these buttons.
hmm
if i am not mistaken, search button has the capability of searching within the application when in applications. any mods to that may hamper that i guess.
No, apps aren't allowed to capture it. Even within 1st party apps it's frowned upon...
Wouldn't be surprised if they had to do similar to what they did with IE and offer other providers
I hope that Microsoft eventually allows third-party apps to trap the search button and use it within the app as long as long as its use is still search-related. At the moment, it's used by the people hub, mail, and marketplace. A second tap brings up Bing search. Third-party apps should be allowed similar functionality.

Hello,
I am a french blind and use a Razer Phone, not for gaming but for listening classic music. I am very disappointed because accessibility mode is pitiful. Is there some people who use accessibility mode and what do you think about it?
The gesture of shortcuts don’t permit a complete reading and after a come back to Razer support, the device changed for a little better but since Oreo the reading is disastrous.
Do you known some blind people who use Razer phone?
Thank you,

Hey André!
As far as I am aware the Razer phone is mostly stock so any and all accessibility features it comes with are made by google android. I don't believe Razer have added any of their own or removed any from the android builds.
The only phone manufacture that I am aware of which includes any additional accessibility options is Samsung..
I must admit that I am curious as to why you chose the Razer phone as one of it's only standout features over other, better or more suitable, phones is it's 144 hertz screen which I'd image isn't of much use to you.
Sorry to sound a little blunt or be a downer but the impression I get from Razer is that they can barely make a phone for fully able bodies, there are plenty of hardware and software issues so I'd be very surprised if they intend to improve the accessibility of the Razer phone.
I've tried to format this in the hopes that screen readers or translation programs will be able to read it correctly.
Sorry if it's not perfect!
Azure Wren.

Hi andre.
I am visually impaired. Legally blind but not fully.
I use magnification a lot and i use a navigation bar button to activate the feature.
May you please explain me your needs and what accessibility features you uae?
As mentioned above, the razer phone has a moatly stock android version so "theoretically" there should not be any problem with that. Please respond. I would be glad to help.
Hi,
Thank you for your help proposal about the accessibility feature.
I use the syntesis Talk Back to discover what is displayed on the screen. Theoretically, the accessibility function is native in the Androïd system and should be able to work like all the features built into this system but alas! (three times alas!) There is a malfunction with the Razer phone. To make speech synthesis speak, the blind user uses shortcut gestures.
At first use, the two-finger swipe gesture from top to bottom or from bottom to top permiting to scroll text was inoperative and caused the opening of one unknown link. After a return to the support of Razer Society, his malfunction was corrected. Since the installation of Oreo, the statement of a word or a text is interrupted as a result of a crackle.
Only playback triggered from the accessibility button at the bottom and at the far right of the screen is operational, but other shortcut gestures allowing to trigger playback see their action interrupted by a crackling sound.
Through my email, I hope to find one or two blind users to share their experience with Talk Back and Razer phone voice synthesis. It will be a great pleasure that I will accept the help of curious users who would like to test the accessibility function and Talk Back to know their experience and especially that they confirm playback malfunction when it is triggered off by either shorthand gestures or the general context menu.
I thank you for your help and, perhaps not to disturb the forum, we could exchange directly unless the subject can be developed for the good of all.
In a previous email I declared that I have chosen the Razer phone for these two speakers and also for the system which does not have an underlay other than the android system. My contacts with the support staff are very good but, I think their superiors are not up to it.
I am counting on you since you propose it to me.
To simplify the test, I suggest that once the accessibility function and Talk Back are enabled to perform that you specify the result of shortcuts in the board in the end of my text.
Sorry, I had done a board but I can not join a link because I am a new user of the forum. If you want to help me, I can send the board in a private mail. You can write me at [email protected].
I thank you very much for your help and for the interest you have in the difficulties encountered by a person with a disability.
Best regard.
I am dissapointed with many missing features in oxygenOS and other things like :
1)Screen pinning with gestures is not possible even though google had implemented this quite a while ago.
2)Bloatware like multiple "file" apps and netflix
3)How confusing it is to access emergency contacts through lock screen
4)Users cannot directly login to their account from lock screen by typing their respective password. It takes too much of time in switching profiles.
5)Call recorded filling the view in voice recorder, it should be in a folder when we swipe right in recorder.
6)Lift to wake feature not present.(the app made for this is a hit or miss sometimes and does not work with ambient display, but kudos to the developer)
7)Being switched off easily without passcode so if stolen the thief can quickly get away. ( I know there are other ways but thiefs are not that smart i assume)
8)60fps video is considerably dull compared to 30fps both in hd and 4k.
9)Manual focus does not provide complete range of focus in pro mode, and you can only shoot from main lens in pro. 48mp mode is also hidden there..
10)System software using 27gb of internal storage, would have bought the 256 gb variant if i knew about this.
And many many other countless things i can't remember at the moment but could be improved very easily by oneplus.
Do you agree with me or am i wrong at some places ? This is my first post so don't hesitate to point out my mistakes.
You expect too much, if you were so concerned with such minute things, you might have stuck with your previous OEM
Oneplus doesnt know what you are used to and what you want, they provide what they feel is best, you should have done a through research if you had such needs, also there are barely 2-3 promotional apps which you call bloatware. Also the file app which you say is installed on every android device by default which is triggered when sharing, its just oneplus gave you an icon to access it separetly too.

2)Netflix: is mandatory to get HDR certification (Netflix mandatory)
6) You have that option under system settings.
7) All phones, computers, servers... All of them can (and MUST) be switched off without password or software related requisite.
10)A/B partitions (Google mandatory). Thanks to that we can participate in beta programs and have quicker updates.

In samsung mobiles, you are required to put the password before switching off the phone. So i wish that could also be implemented in oneplus.
The lift to wake feature i want is when I pickup the phone, it completely unlocks after seeing my face which is not present.
I wish i also knew about the 27gb thing cause then i would have bought the 256 because overall the phone is great.
Ik i am nitpicking but some points are still valid.

About Samsung mobiles, I guess you are talking about normal switch off. There is an emergency switch off (vol- + power)that should overrides any pin (in any manufacturer).
Ok, you mean get into home screen. Well, that is a personal preference. I prefer to stay into lock screen but with the notifications expanded to see if I really want/need to unlock the phone.
The space used by the system is that way since android 9. All we know that android is about 10gb so if you have two partitions (A/B) it will be twice the space used. All manufacturers warn about it into the specs with something like "the space available for the user will be less due to blablabla...".
