RN8Pro downgrade and root - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi there!
I want to root my Redmi Note 8 Pro (which is already unlocked) but in most of the instructions I came across a requirement in order to do so is to be on A9.
My RN8PRO is on the european firmware 12.0.1.0 QGGEUXM so I downloaded the A9 european fastboot firmware V11.0.3.0.PGGEUXM | MIUI 11 from "xiaomifirmware.com".
I then downloaded MI FLASH PRO (v. 5.3.714.36) and I'm about to downgrade. Is there any pointer or further recommendation to follow in order not to screw things up (like any Anti-Rollback Protection that might block the smartphone)?
In Mi Flash Pro I should just click on the "Mi Flash" tab, then select the firmware downloaded (and extracted), hit "refresh", then "flash" and that's it right?
Thank you.

You don't need to downgrade to root, unless you want to use CWF recovery and ROMs.

Hi donkyshot, I didn't know that. But maybe I should be more specific: I wish to root with magisk so that I can use it's "hide root" function and use it for all the banking apps that just won't run on rooted devices.
Anyway I think it would be still wise to downgrade and put the preloader just to be safe in case I forget (I'm sure that I'll forget and having a rooted device will make me think that I can easily put a Custom rom down the road and I will brick the device), or also the preloader can be installed without having to downgrade?

Again, if you want to hide magisk you don't have to downgrade. It's working on A10.
Hiding magisk doesn't seem to work on all banking apps though.
Rooting is easy, and relatively safe as long as you follow the instructions, use correct A10 recovery and close avb.
Downgrading is risky too.
But you're right, the preloader only works on Android 9.
Remember if you'll update back to miui 11/12 android 10 you'll lose the preloader.
But if you'll decide later to just flash a custom rom it won't work with just the preloader, you'll need cfw too.
But yes it will save you from a total brick, as long as you don't flash miui rom or ota.
Read the cfw thread carefully https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-8-pro/how-to/guide-redmi-note-8-pro-megathread-t4056527
There have been reports of camera issues with latest models because of firmware and the preloader.
Don't flash or update up to the latest magisk 21, it's bootlooping on mediatek devices.
Good luck and happy flashing.

Hi there.
I'm sorry to bother you again, but during these days I read a lot of posts in different threads just to be more and more confused (some things I learned though ).
At a certain point I decided to follow your advice and just root my phone and not downgrade to A9 so to take the safest route (I'm fine using MIUI for the time being and don't need custom roms), but I'm not sure where to find a safe/trusted recovery for A10 since most of the instructions use recovery for A9.
Do you or anyone else have any tips?

 Yes I got root!
Now I just have to investigate if I can use the app "Migrate" on the RN8PRO to restore all the app+data of my previous cell (Redmi Note 4x) that wasn't restored with Google backup and Xioami's "Mi Mover".
Since the "Migrate" app requires flashing the backup via TWRP and knowing that the RN8PRO is somehow picky I want to double check if it's possible, although I think that it should be fine.

Great. Don't have experience myself with migrate app, I'm using titanium.
European update 12.0.2.0 has dropped. I'll put steps later how to update through twrp without losing data.

That's very cool, but now I have doubt, updating via twrp is mandatory now that I have a rooted device (I don't think so, but I just want to be sure) or is it just because the update wasn't pushed via OTA yet?
I know that with CFW and the preloader is a whole different story, but it shouldn't be a problem to update via OTA on a rooted phone right?

Oh god I'm confused. I'm intend to unlock bootloader and install Magisk, is the image in post #7 good for that? Do I need anything else? Sorry for my stupidity, I'm just confused with all the different guides and files :/
Edit: I'm on MIUI 12.0.1 global (QGGEUXM), Android 10

Yes, recovery from my post #7 should work for you.
Follow these instructions: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-8-pro/how-to/guide-unlock-bootloader-flash-twrp-root-t3995919
You can update magisk through the app, stable channel only. Version 21 causes bootloops.

If you want to flash custom ROMs, you'll need to follow this thread.
Read the thread carefully and please ask questions there, I have no experience with custom ROM on this device.

Rooting original 7.1.1 on Moto Z Play

Hi at all,
I own this device for two months now and I have read a lot about rooting and flashing. It seems to be quite difficult compared to my former Samsung and Xiaomi devices...
To avoid any kind of bricking my phone I wanted to ask if there's a way to root it. I (still) have a locked bootloader and I installed the latest update to 7.1.1 with 1st July security patch.
Is there any safe way to root and install TWRP (and afterwards some ROMs of course)?
Thank you. :fingers-crossed:
I have root on my moto z play with stock 7.1.1. if you don't downgrade you don't get bricked
To unlock and install twrp :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/how-to/guide-root-xposed-flashing-stock-rom-t3529637
And to root use this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/how-to/how-to-safetynet-7-1-1-update-stock-rom-t3669086
To root is better with magisk ( second link)because don't break SafetyNet and the link is a tutorial made by me so if have any questions you can ask in the thread.

If you are in 7.1.1, unlock your bootloader, download TWRP of @Alberto97 version 3.1.1-0(https://dc4.androidfilehost.com/dl/...673368273298955814/twrp-3.1.1-0-addison.img), flash it, download this kernel( https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i8PfTQ1e-WQkZ5-zD52HzWO3LZ5luaq_/view?usp=drivesdk) and the attached Magisk.zip.
Now, after you flashed the TWRP through Fastaboot, enter into recovery mode, select INSTALL, select the kernel and swipe to flash it. Then go back, select the Magisk.zip file to flash and swipe to flash it. After you do it, just reboot you device and check if the Magisk Manager app is installed, if it is, then open it, click on "check safety net", tap OK and wait until it tests the root hiding, if it says everything is okay, then everything is okay.
Congratulations, you are rooted now with Magisk and the Hiding Feature, you can play Pokemon go as well and the same for Snapchat and that stuffs that blocks rooted users from using their apps.

I've read that flashing a kernel when you're in 7.1.1 might cause problems. Did you try this steps being in 7.1.1 or they're just general steps?
In case you were in 7.1.1, did you install xposed after those steps?
Sorry if I ask many questions, but I want to be sure that I'll not brick my phone

no problem dude, i understand your concern, i'm just like this. Actually I was asking for help until last night and got all the answers.
flashing a kernel won't cause any problem since you do not flash any kernel but for your android version. The link i shared with you is a @logotoy73 kernel, he updated it last night and i used it. It's working properly and with no issues.
Today i've tried to install xposed, but due to the forced encryption in 7.1.1 it wasn't possible, even trying with the systemless xposed(magisk feature), maybe later i'll try again then i give you a feedback.
In magisk there are some xposed modules to be able to use it in nougat, but it caused me a bootloop.
If you follow exactly what i've said, you will be rooted in 7.1.1 in a few minutes!
Any problem you have, pm me so i could help you haha

I think creating a new post won't be necessary because kernel is already in @tomparr post, but in the last page of it, the twrp you cam download from Alberto's post, and magisk from the official thread(it's actually one of the most famous threads for now hahaha), but maybe if someone else have any issue with 7.1.1 i can create the post!
Edit. If i plan to try xposed again I tell you!
I have systemless xposed running on 7.1.1 with my kernel. After installing module xposed via twrp if a long start, helps reboot.

On the first site there is a tutorial linked, just follow it. Basically get rid of supersu first. Then the tutorial probably says that you have to install a custom kernel in order to just Magisk modules because the stock one is faulty. If you ask me that's shooting with guns on pidgins. The easiest way is to get the Magisk module F2FS loopback bug workaround. Google for it. When you have it and latest Magisk zip, go to TWRP, flash Magisk and the module, then reboot. Works perfectly, though you shouldn't ever wipe or format /cache because that's where Magisk is installed now, you'd loose it.

[ROOT] Question regarding root access in the pie update and the working TWRP recovery

I didn't find any posts regarding this, if there is any then pardon me.
I've updated to the latest pie build and the twrp has also been updated to work on pie and it's almost fully functional. So, I just wanted to ask that can I directly flash magisk for getting root? Anyone tried this? And what are the potential problems than my phone can run into while or after installing magisk.
Thanks
You need to unlock your bootloader in any case if you want to flash magisk.....but if anything goes wrong you can have a really hard time getting it back working with a custom recovery....I don't see a reason why you wouldn't want to flash twrp after unlocking bootloader.

Asus unlock App only works on Oreo for now. I think we'll get one when the official P version for WW comes out.
No special step just do the same with Pie boot.img :good:

ultimate / universal root / twrp installation guide?

Hi everyone
Sorry I am confused; there does not seem to be an ultimate universal root / twrp installation guide for the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite phone (my son's phone) in 2019.
No offense intended but all these various posts on the topic just help to confuse people!
I managed to unlock the bootloader but can anybody please tell me what is the easiest / user-friendliest way to install twrp (which version?) and root the phone so that I may proceed with flashing LineageOS afterwards to get rid of all the bloatware.?
what about these partitions A & B?
Thanks a lot in advance

It depends on what you want to do.
Root doesnt need TWRP, just Magisk. There's a guide on here.
Flashing custom ROMs needs TWRP. Each custom ROM has specific instructions.
There's no one-size-fits-all solution for this phone.

Hi @a1291762 & thanks.
This is what I am saying it is confusing; I have been thru a few phones (samsungs, LGs, lately Xiaomi...)
and the process was first install twrp then root and then you could flash roms
I know when you flash LineageOS, you get root included in dev options so from your explanations I will look how to flash LineageOS but currently I'm struggling installing twrp as you have seen in my other post

My last phone didn't have A/B or encryption or use Magisk for rooting... So for me everything about this phone was new and different.
I started with stock (android one means I didn't immediately want a custom ROM). Then added Magisk. I added TWRP after edxposed caused me bootloops (magisk manager CLI can run from TWRP). I haven't installed a custom ROM yet but I've got a custom splash and bootanim.

Rooting stock rom latest version 12.0.2.0(QGGEUXM)

Edit: Can confirm this works for A10 - MIUI 12 global V12.0.2.0(QGGEUXM). Happy flashing!
Hi I just bought this phone and im on the latest A10 - MIUI global V12.0.2.0(QGGEUXM) firmware. I really want to root it, but after seeing all these posts about permanent hard bricks im pretty scared lol. So could anyone verify if the following steps are (still) correct?
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash this TWRP version in fastboot

If you're on Android 10, flash this recovery instead of the guide :

3. Follow this guide to root with latest Magisk 20.4 (stable)
If I do this, there should be no chance of hardbrick? Should I change steps? Thanks in advance!

yes, this way can root it.
I did that too, but could not pass safetynet check. CTS fails.

Question How to convert the T mobile 9 pro to the Global or NA OOS12?

Hello all!
I am an user of OnePlus 9 pro (T-mobile). I don't want the pink startup screen, and I found a lot of resources here can help me on it.
I have backup all my personal data. I have unlocked the sim and bootloader (using the official unlock_token.bin). What is the next step?
I am lost here since there are some different posts (and some posted last year, I am not sure if this still work or not).
Thank you all!
Flash a rom or custom oos
First off do not update to A12, make sure USB debug is enabled, auto updates disabled....do that and I hope you are on A11...if so, I have exactly what you need

Turned off auto updates? Yes? You can update to 11.2.9.9 then stop there, but make sure auto updates are turned off!!!!! Next step will to get root!

I would stay away from custom roms, I have seen too many people having problems. Secondly as of right now, A12 is buggy so that is why I stay with stock A11 from T-Mobile. With the setup I can give you, you can have any custom bootanimation and custom systemwide font you want.....
First off, download and install Magisk v25.2 app from GitHub website and install it to your phone. Next download the attached file to the folder with your platform files.....
Download Magisk from this link to your phone and install it.
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v25.2/Magisk-v25.2.apk
Then download this link to your platform tools folder on PC...
Download twrp-3.6.2_11-0-lemonadep.img
Download page for twrp-3.6.2_11-0-lemonadep.img
dl.twrp.me
Then download this link to your phone storage...

Let me know when you are down with these three steps!!!!! And are you updated to 11.2.9.9

Yes. I have successfuly updated 11.2.9.9 now.
I have a question that would this work? https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/le2127-oneplus-9-pro-custom-rom-t-mobile.4490195/
I am interested in Android 12 or even 13 if possible.

If you are focused on upgrading to A12 or A12 then what I have will not work. As for the custom ROM, possible it may work, but you need to follow the steps to the letter. Any OP9P custom ROM will work from the XDA forums, the question is, will there be issues? Very possible. Good luck on your journey.....

Been running nameless for over a month and a half now and haven't had a single out-of-the-ordinary problem that can't be fixed with a simple reboot. I have the T-Mobile variant here. Data works fine.

Thank you for all the help today! I think I did something wrong. I successfully get TWRP (directly boot, not recovery since it is failed), and then get my phone bricked flashing the rom lineageos... Now I am trying to unbrick it...

Bricked as in black screen? Or does it boot to fastboot? What version of lineage are you trying to run? And what OOS were you on? You need to be on OOS 12 to run lineage 19. And twrp is not the recovery to use for that.
Look before you leap.....read read read and make sure to follow ALL steps 1step at a time.....
