There are three parts to this thread - How to get into download mode, how to get into recovery mode, and how to solve problems connecting your Android device to your computer. I think you should be able to find where each one begins without too much trouble.
----------------------------------------------------
GETTING INTO DOWNLOAD MODE
----------------------------------------------------
"Just get into download mode and..."
Ever find yourself with a phone that's misbehaving, and you can't seem to figure out how to get it to download mode?
Here's a list of things to try, sorted in a "where are you now" setup:
Note: You will need to use Vol+ to select download mode after you reach the mode selection screen.
FROM A POWERED-DOWN STATE - BATTERY REMOVED
- Insert battery, then press and hold Vol-, Home button, and Power.
- Press and hold Vol-/Home/Power, Insert Battery.
- Use a USB jig (can be manufactured jig or homemade chain of resistors)
FROM CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY MENU
- Position the cursor (highlighted selection) on "Restart device", hold Vol-/Home, then press power
- (Where available) Use the "Reboot Download" option in the "Advanced" menu
FROM A FULLY BOOTED PHONE STATE, WITH USB DEBUGGING ENABLED
Note: you may need to have ADB installed on your computer, and/or an Android Terminal Emulator installed on your Android device.
- Connect your Android device to your computer, navigate to your ADB directory, and type "adb reboot download"
- (Where available) Use the rom's power menu option to reboot into download mode.
- From a terminal, type "su", then "reboot download"
- Download the app "quickboot", follow the app directions to reach download mode.
----------------------------------------------------
GETTING INTO RECOVERY MODE (CWM RECOVERY)
----------------------------------------------------
FROM A POWERED-DOWN STATE - BATTERY REMOVED
- Insert battery, then press and hold Vol+, Home button, and Power.
- Press and hold Vol+/Home/Power, Insert Battery.
FROM A FULLY BOOTED PHONE STATE, WITH USB DEBUGGING ENABLED
Note: you may need to have ADB installed on your computer, and/or an Android Terminal Emulator installed on your Android device.
- Connect your Android device to your computer, navigate to your ADB directory, and type "adb reboot recovery"
- (Where available) Use the rom's advanced power menu (long press power in android OS) option to reboot into recovery.
- From a terminal emulator, type "su", then "reboot recovery"
- Download the app "quickboot", follow the app directions to reach recovery mode.
- Download the app "Rom Manager", select "Reboot to Clockwordmod Recovery"
----------------------------------------------------
UNIVERSAL FIRST STEPS FOR CONNECTION ISSUES
----------------------------------------------------
So you've got Odin up, the phone's in download mode, it's connected to the computer, but Odin is saying "What phone?". You've tried jiggling the handle, checking the blinker fluid levels, and even using the board stretcher, but the Android guy is smirking at you with that smug green face.
Although it is possible that there is something else at work that's preventing your phone from connecting, I would suggest trying these "universal first steps" to see if you can resolve the connection issues:
1. Turn off both devices (phone and PC) - and I do mean full power-down. Go ahead and pull the phone's battery, if necessary.
2. Disconnect your phone from your computer at all points - USB out of phone, USB out of computer.
3. Start up your computer. Don't touch it, don't do anything to it. Let it fully boot and completely settle.
(Obviously, log in if it's necessary, but then let it finish booting before moving on to step 4.)
4. Start up Odin. Let that get completely started and settled.
(If on Vista/Win 7, make sure to "Run as Administrator" in the right-click menu.)
5. Connect your USB cable to a different port than the one you last had it connected to.
(If you're on a Windows desktop, the ports in the back of the computer are generally more stable and should be used. If you're on a laptop, use USB port #1)
Do not connect the phone to the cable yet.
6. Start your phone in download mode. Wait until you see the Android guy with the 4-5 lines of text in the upper left corner.
7. Connect your cable to the phone. Let it sit until Odin recognizes it (which should only take a couple of seconds).
If, for some reason, Odin doesn't recognize the phone at this point, here are a few more things to check/try:
- Repeat steps 1-7 above, making sure to change USB ports. As dumb as it sounds, sometimes the phone or computer just doesn't like particular USB ports.
- With everything still up, switch USB ports.
- Try a different OS (if possible) - sometimes Ubuntu will recognize what Windows won't, and vice versa.
- Try doing this on a different computer - again, different OS, different USB ports, they're all links in a chain and sometimes you'll come across a configuration that doesn't have the weak link.
- Try a different cable. I've had a case where I couldn't do any flashing with one cable, but everything was rock-solid and smooth on the same machine with just a different cable.
- Fully uninstall your drivers, reboot the computer, reinstall the drivers, power down, and then start again from step 2. Sometimes faulty drivers are the problem.
--------------------------------------
Additional Note:
If you're moving from an AOSP-based rom (MIUI, CM10, etc) to a Touchwiz-based / Samsung Stock-based rom, remember to wipe data / factory reset prior to flashing a stock rom. You will hang on the "Samsung" logo if you don't.
Please note very carefully, though, to do the wipe in CWM recovery - not 3e recovery. If you do it in 3e recovery, you'll format the internal storage, meaning you lose all your pictures, music, etc.. (I learned this the hard way.)
--------------------------------------------
If anyone has any additional items / corrections, please reply and I'll update the OP accordingly. Thanks.

Great guide!
I'd like to add my experiences, while using CWM 6.0.1.2 booting into Recovery is a bit tricky. It appears the default recovery boots instead of CWM. The only work around I know of is to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery first from ROM Manager v5.0.2.0 and then select Reboot into Recovery. Any other method I try seems to fail.
I'm running Stock At&t ROM, rooted.
Hey Mrhaley,
I just found your post. Wish I knew I had to wipe data and factory reset before flashing stock rom... well I followed another post to use kies and now Im stuck. Im hanging on samsung logo. Can you help me fix this?
Thanks

OP thanks for exelent post..I had one more problem with USB connection. Sticks in usb port did not connect correctly. Just jently squize USB male connector on samsung data cable so top of male connector will bend just enough to get good connection when you push back to PC port.
@djtiko - I answer on other post to your problem..

Do a factory reset again, should fix you up. If not, consider using Odin to flash a stock ROM package.
Thanks got it all fixed, just had to do a data wipe in the stock recovery and then I was golden
ondin
Hey guys when i run the bootloader file should i open it up in the pda tab on ondin or in the Bootloader tab?
Should be in the pda tab I believe.
Edit. Which bootloader file are you referring to? To know for sure, you could just flash the entire stock rooted jelly bean Rom.
If using Odin with Chainfire to auto root just to root I found that the file that you are using to root you HAVE to have in the SAME folder I made the mistake of downloading the Odin then Odin with chainfire from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963790 then was opening the odin first downloaded then it would stall for not able to start the installation then rechecking the unzipped folder for the .tar.md5 file noticed that Odin was there too, loaded it and PRESTO rooted in less than 30 seconds... So for other that are just looking to root give chainfire a check, yes you would need to use the triangle away if you are worried about that however you don't loose anything when doing it this way so all a matter of what you are looking to do. THANK YOU so much for the help with the drivers issues!
So we currently have a situation where it can be quite frightening to try anything cool on the Intel head units, since if you brick it, you might not be able to recover it.
I tried to pull this information out of the manufacturer of the units I've chosen to buy (Joying), but they started out playing retarded, then after about a hundred emails exchanged including links to videos of head units booting into recovery, and a detailed explanation of why it is needed (factory reset when android can't boot, for example), the last thing I was able to get out of them (because they landed themselves into an idiot infinite loop) was "Nice day, this is Candy from Joying, Thanks for your email and info, new model is muchly stable than old model, recovery not needed, don't worry, Hope you well-understanding, Any more questions pls feel free to contact us, Best regards, Candy".
<sarcasm>HOW BLOODY USEFUL!</sarcasm>
So lets use this thread to record known methods of booting into recovery.
If you are able to get into recovery, make note of the following details;
1) Brand and model number,
2) MCU firmware brand and version,
3) Exact reproducible process to boot into recovery.
One person here (@MMTK84) has apparently been able to get into recovery to the "no command" screen by plugging in an external keyboard and pressing some buttons on it.
This is for a Joying UL135N2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69757832&postcount=133
Now the concerning thins about this particular procedure, is that it starts booting, and then reboots and goes into recovery. The reason this is concerning, is if it starts booting off the BOOT partition, registers the button clicks to reboot to recovery, and then reboots to recovery. This case could be bad if you happen to have a broken boot image. In other words, without further information, I wouldn't depend on it.
For... I'm not sure which unit, I found this on a Russian forum indicating pressing and holding the BACK button for about 10 seconds, releasing when the lights start flashing, and tapping it again: http://4pda.ru/pages/go/?u=https://...%3D140&usg=ALkJrhiZ8C2dCOO73ghthzievLV2mKtXyQ
*** further down in the same thread, someone else said the same process, but with the RESET button.
The reset button method might be able to apply to devices without physical buttons.
There are also TWO MORE buttons on all devices than what you see on the front panels -- the steering wheel interface buttons. Perhaps one or the other of those could, in some instances, trigger a boot to recovery?
So anybody who has these Intel head units, post your methods to achieve a boot into recovery.
Please keep the questions and discussions OUT of this thread, I'd like for it to be used exclusively to list SUCCESSFUL methods of booting into recovery.
More brainstorming;
If it becomes absolutely a problem and we find out that some devices *simply cannot* be booted into recovery, this could yield a solution;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522226
What that is, is an additional bootloader based on Das U-Boot, which adds in some of the missing multi-boot functionality. You stick that one in to the original boot partition, and instead of starting the kernel and Android, it instead launches a menu that lets you pick what you want to start. HOWEVER, given that this hardware is x86, we might actually have some luck with something more conventional, like GRUB.
Thanks for your work on this @doitright. I've been emailing with Joying as well and the language barrier can be frustrating.
With my previous MTCB unit I dealt with Hotaudio and they seemed to actually get useful information from their engineer rather than infinite looping at the front line customer service.
Hopefully a working recovery can be achieved independently of the manufacturer. I'm willing to test on my unit but trying not to brick it.
Unfortunately I haven't found a successful recovery method yet. But as a data point for my unit:
Its a Joying 8" non-MTC Intel unit with capacative buttons(only physical buttons are RST and POW).
MCU is dated 10/31 "Newlap", picture attached. Interestingly Serial Number in Settings > About Device reads all zeros: 00000000.
I'm getting to the same recovery screen as @MMTK84 with the laying down Android background. It first displays "No Command." soon followed by "Error!".
None of the usual recovery menu options are present to scroll up/down/select. Pressing the capacative buttons causes no change.
Short click POW does nothing, long click POW turns the screen off(short click POW again turns back on), Short or Long clicking RST reboots.
To get to recovery I used terminal on the unit itself: "su" then "reboot recovery". Unit is rooted per: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...-intel-cpu-t3494083/post69648860#post69648860 It also works via WiFi adb: "adb connect <ip>" then "adb reboot recovery".
I have not yet found a hardware key combo to boot into recovery from power off. I tried the 4pda method you found with the RST button, held for 10 seconds but the lights never flashed, unit just rebooted after about 15 seconds of holding RST. I also tried this RST/PWR sequence that reportedly works for the 5.1.1 MTCD units but I can confirm it does not work on this non-MTC Intel unit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66733286&postcount=2
Fingers crossed for a creative solution. U-Boot sounds promising.
I am also in a slump and unfortunately I actually need to enter recovery as my unit will not boot. I am waiting on the seller to respond and it's been a week and he still does not know. My unit is a MTCD Intel soft touch unit. Long press reset does nothing. Pressing any of the soft touch buttons while the unit is booting up also does nothing. That includes long press back, power, or anything else. If anyone comes across a way to enter recovery for a soft touch intel MTCD unit please let me know as mine is currently bricked.
Boot to recovery with USB keyboard (VIDEO)
1.) README:
As described in my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69757832&postcount=133, here is the VIDEO how to enter recovery with hardware buttons (USB keyboard).
The device (Joying UL-135N2) was freshly resetted (factory settings), so it is not rooted.
The USB keyboard has QWERTZ design (Europe), but that is not important AFAIK.
After someone modified/adapted the "recovery.img" to TWRP (or similar), or someone patches the current recovery, we should be able to use this method to enter recovery when android is on a boot-loop..... :good:

Good information there, but my only concern with this method, is whether the recovery boot is initiated from the bootloader, or from something in the primary boot partition. If it is initiated from the bootloader, we are golden. If it is initiated from something in the primary boot partition, this will not help with problems in the boot partition.
Have you tried using just the "e" button straight off the bat and skipping the alt-print?
FYI: My UL128N2's are *supposed* to arrive tomorrow, so I'll be able to start my own experiments with them. They're basically the same as your UL135N2, but all glass screen instead of buttons that click.
I greatly appreciate your information and your video, but unfortunately this did not work on my unit

Important to note that YOUR unit is an MTCD, whereas MMTK84's is a Joying (FYT5009).

I did notice a few things while trying this.
#1 I have absolutely no power coming out of the USB ports. For example if I plug my phone into it, it does not even attempt nor do any other power consuming USB peripherals get power. I am concerned that if this is the case then even a USB keyboard may not work.
#2 when I press the reset button with ign off, then the lights on the unit flickers for 1 second then goes back off. Where as if I turn IGN ON then the units lights turn on and remain on for about 2 minutes before going off.

Have you tried to press and hold the reset button, and then turn on the ignition?
You need to try all kinds of different things.

readme: my unit: Joying JY-UL135N2 2G RAM 32G
CPU: Intel ATOM QuadCore, GPU3D: Mali-400 MP4, RAM; 2G DDR3

I have tried the keyboard method for booting to recovery and it was successful.
I have followed @MMTK84
1.) I hooked up a USB keyboard
2.) Pressed ALT(right one on the keyboard)+PRINT........keep it holding all the time
3.) Turned on power supply. Started pressing "E".
4.) The HU booted and the car logo appeared. After 10 seconds the HU reboots.
5.) When the logo appeared the second time I've released ALT+PRINT keys and began to press only "e" for about 10 seconds.
6.) Suddenly the "no command" screen appeared (this is according to user doitright the unusable recovery menu)
I didnt try by pressing "e" alone without pressing ALT+PRINT keys. If it is so will it make any good?

Are there any reported methods to recovering my unit?
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...uad-Core-1-2G-4-1024/1396993_32747116176.html
I purchased a new Joying Unit as well. Will there be any way to install a recovery partition on this device?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/232157503276?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
The method MMTK84 describes also works for the UL128N2 device.
Edit:
You can even skip step 5 and 6 of the tutorial. Just keep holding ALT + printscreen and pressing e. After the logo disappears release all keys.
If you hold alt + printscreen and start pressing F when it boots the joying logo disappears and goes black for a few seconds, goes white and boots into recovery.
Open up the case and you will see that the red led stops blinking when you do above procedure.
The keys e, i and f will reboot in recovery.
When pressing j the joying logo stays and the system does nothing, the led inside blinks all the time
When pressing c the led stops blinking and the system shutsdown
When pressing b the led goes off and the system hangs.
When pressing 0 the system shutsdown
The keys q,w,r,t,y,u,p,a,s,d,g,h,k,l,z,x,v,n,m do nothing.
I tried all combinations in combination with the alt + printscreen button.
I bricked the MTCD GS (XTRONS TL702AP) when trying to install one of the root kits (I knew that doing dd if... of=/mmcblk... is not going to be 100% safe...) and I managed to find how to reliably enter the recovery:
1. make sure that ILL is connected to ACC or BATT. Without it, touch buttons won't lit up and you won't know when to release RST
2. turn off the power completely, then turn it back on (both ACC and BATT), wait 1-2 seconds, then press and hold the RST button
3. wait ~5 seconds until the touch buttons start blinking, release immediately and press RST again shortly then release it
4. wait a few seconds and recovery shows up
When I bricked mine, the LCD backlight was blinking like crazy (1-2 Hz) and the display was showing the device booting up. Instead booting to the Android 'desktop', white screen appeared and unit crashed later on. When I managed to enter the recovery, the LCD backlight was solid immediately as I started pressing the RST...

How to recover from a bad recovery.img flash:
In preparation of creating a modified recovery.img, I inadvertantly flashed over a malformed image file. The unit wouldn't boot at all! I thought I hard bricked the unit forever!
1. Disconnect ACC and BAT
2. Hold down the POWER BUTTON
3. Attach ACC and BAT
unit will boot.
After flash, unit refused to boot at all. Black screen. Probably trying to load from bad recovery partition. Nothing else would work, no Alt-PrnScrn combo, reset button, nada. Red light on sofia module would blink and then turn off. Research time. Then I saw that another MTCD unit was able to boot using this method. Success!
Note that this method will only work if your system partition is intact. If both recovery and system are hosed, I don't know of a way other than JTAG (possibly) to reflash the partitions.
Almost....
Has anyone tried a PC <-> PC OTG cable on one of these units?
I can reboot to recovery from the command line ( reboot recovery ). Getting into recovery mode isn't an issue, the problem is no way to access the unit once it reboots into recovery. From the recovery image, it looks like there is an adb process started from init and also wired USB support. I'm guessing you just need the right cable to connect.

An OTG cable has a chip in the middle so two USB hosts "think" they are both connecting to a device. A USB host knows a device is present, when the USB device pulls either d+ or d- line to ~3.3v to signal the connect speed. None of the signaling will happen with a straight A to A cable (connecting 2 host ports ).
I was going to get one and try it, just thought I would see if anyone else has before I buy one. Hopefully, I can find one locally so I can return it if it doesn't work.
Does anyone have experience with unpacking and repacking recovery images? I am unable to successfully repack recovery.img from the joying intel units. My repacked images will not boot! Arg!
Hello,
I've got a water damaged OP3 (it was in a pool for about 1min). Now after a few days having it in a pot of rice and cleaning the logic board with 100% isopropanol it finally woke up when pressing power button.
My problem now: It just shows up with a Linux Logo (a small Tux in the middle of the screen) and then turns off after 3 seconds. If I connect it with a charger, the screen persists for the moment.
When pressing + holding volume up button, windows recognizes it as "unknown usb device" and screen stays black.
I only need to access the flash to rescue some of my recent (of course not backed up) data.
What do you suggest? Could I try the unbrick the phone or do these symptons point to a irreversible hardware damage?
Is there a way to read the flash without flashing (or with flashing a minimum set of) stock image?
best regards and thanks in advance!

you better avoid doing experiments on op3. Symptoms you have mentioned in your thread, tells that your has been flashed (don't have usb drivers,no os,no firmware). I have faced same problem with my letv le 1s. It is a software problem. Your phone is totally empty. So do contact with any software technician, he uses sp flash tool to wake up the device. Download sp flash tool and follow procedure. If sp flash tool is detecting your device then it means your device hardware is fine.

Have you installed the necessary drivers in Windows for the phone to show up as Qualcom HS-USB..........Loader9008? Otherwise your phone will not be recognised when you do volume press for 10 seconds and connect. Even if it is recognised in this "service" mode, you may be able to unbrick/restore your phone but in the process, the entire phone would be wiped clean. (I know since I have done it).

I've tried to get the phone into EDL Mode (Qualcomm chip), but had no success, phone vibrates and windows recognizes an "unknown usb device" (pressed Volume Up and connected to USB, phone was definitely turned off). But I am not able to get the device recognized as "QHSUSB_BULK" which - afaik - is the prerequisite to install the Qualcomm USB Driver und go on with the unbrick procedure..
I hope anyone got some idea how to get the phone back to life..

Your understanding of the unbrick steps is not correct. Initially the phone will not show up at all or may show up as unknown or something else. It is only when you install the EDL mode drivers and then hold the power button down for 40 seconds and the hold down the volume up button for 10 seconds and connect to PC, will it show up in the EDL mode. Ofcourse you will have to disable the driver signature verification before installing the drivers.
Read the Unbrick Guide again and install the drivers before trying to connect.

Thanks so far, but being a software developer myself I am not a totally beginner. I followed the guide, also read it twice etc.. Also tried another USB cable including the original Oneplus cable.
When plugging it in while pressing Volume Up my Linux laptop reports this:
Code:
[40474.458362] usb usb3-port2: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
[40475.426231] usb usb3-port2: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
[40475.426354] usb usb3-port2: attempt power cycle
[40476.710061] usb usb3-port2: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
[40477.677934] usb usb3-port2: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
[40477.678051] usb usb3-port2: unable to enumerate USB device
On my windows machine the device manager reports "Windows has stopped the device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".
Any suggestions? It seems that the device has lost all firmware etc. and there is no EDL left on the device.
EDIT:
With holding Vol(-) and Power I could get rid of the Tux Penguin and enter fastboot and recovery of the phone.. NAND seems to be okay, can decrypt my internal storage.. The USB port doesn't work in recovery (same error like I had with the EDL mode, unknown device)..
I hope I can now charge the battery a bit and recovery my data...
Thanks so far guys..

Sorry if I had sounded condescending, but I had no way of knowing your level of expertise.
Best of luck for restoring your phone or for saving the data.

No need to worry.. Of course, you couldn't know and there are a lot of people asking dump questions..
My phone is back a life, I guess the data transfer via USB is not working anymore, charging works although I needed to take my Oneplus One's battery (identical connector, just need to take care of the pin layout [+/-]) because my OP3 battery is pretty low and I don't know if I can reactivate it.. It has about 3,4V at the moment and charges very slow..
Finally, if anyone else faces this issue and can't boot his phone:
Try different button combinations and keep holding the buttons several seconds/minutes..
Hey all,
So i've unlocked by bootloader, flashed a custom recovery to then proceed with LineageOS flashing. However it went completely wrong as on reboot i'm stuck with the bootloader unlocked warning and then a blackscreen.
I still have access to fastboot mode however it's impossible to flash a customer recovery ("No Such Partition") and also impossible to directly "fastboot boot recovery.img" as the phone simply reboots on the warning and then blackscreen.
The only solution seems to get the device to qualcomm EDL mode and reflash all with the MSM tool (which I have as well as all the drivers) however I cannot get my Oneplus 9 pro to EDL mode...
I've tried all the fastboot commands (fastboot oem EDL, fastboot reboot EDL, none of them work) as well as the combination volume UP + volume DOWN + plugging the cable (it just boots the fastboot mode.
Honestly would greatly appreciate any help as it is the first time in a decade I hard bricked a phone like this as it seems all the partitions are broken.
Make sure you have it unplugged when you do the button combos, as it will just start to boot while it's plugged in. Also, if you can reach fastboot, you can almost definitely reach EDL. Try unplugging and holding power+vol up for a bit which forces it to completely power off. Then try getting into EDL through the normal button combo/plugging. This is what I had to do since once it got into the booting/no-booting cycle I couldn't get to EDL.
1] Make sure you have it connected directly to your computer via USB port rather than via a USB Hub, I've seen that cause the device not to show up in the device manager.
2] You might have to restart your computer with driver signing disabled, check here for instructions for that
3] I've uploaded the Qualcomm drivers here
4] Make sure you use POWER + VOL DOWN + VOL UP and watch your device manager to see if the device is there
5] Make sure you choose the correct MSM tool from here for your region/provider
6] Remember to use MsmDownloadTool V4.0.exe, choose "User type : Others" and choose the correct device/region under the top "Target" dropdown.
7] If you don't see any COM device showing connected then try changing USB port or rebooting the device back into EDL mode.
Good advice above.
Last time I couldn't reach EDL with my previous phone, it turned out to be an issue with the drivers I had installed. I uninstalled all Android-related drivers including some generic thing that showed up in device manager when plugging in the phone, then reinstalled the latest Qualcomm drivers.
Also possibly try a different USB cable if you have one. My OP9P didn't show up when the cable it came with was plugged into my USB-C port for some reason, but it worked fine with a generic Type-A to C cable I had sitting around.
Thanks a lot for the different guidelines !
i'm 100% sure the drivers are working. I have another oneplus 9 pro that is detected when booted on EDL mode on the PC. The faulty one however cannot reach it. Also it cannot get any charge as whenever I plug it on it just goes on a boot loop. Tried to leave it to charge for a full night but still shows the "out of battery logo" with the red cable.
When plugged to the PC while pressing VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN I keep getting the windows sound of device plugged/unpluged, etc etc...
To be honest I think the flashing messed up the partitions as it is now hard to do anything with this device...

Can you help me too, I have exactly the same problem…
If you use Windows, you need to see "QDLOADER 9008" in Device Manager > Portable Devices.
When you got this it will work, 100% .
It worked for me a few days ago. My laptop runs on Windows 11 x64. And only have usb 3.0. NO usb 2.0.
was having the hardest time as well, it's not that the device wasn't going to EDL mode, it was but it had the wrong driver installed, thus making MSM tool not detect it in time, it is a very small window that you have where the device goes into EDL mode and the MSM tool detects it, makes a handshake with it and starts the process, but if you have the wrong driver, MSM tool will not detect the device and the device will just turn back into fastboot mode, I'm attaching a picture of the device manager where the said driver is under "Ports" ( COM & LTP ) make sure you download the above mentioned drivers, if there is any other driver under Ports, uninstall it and whenever you plug in your phone with the VOL + VOL - combo, you will see the device appear under PORTS, upgrade the currently installed driver for the one called qcmdm.inf which you'll find after you extract the .cab file that you downloaded previously, after that open MSM Tool and hit start, the port number should match the one on the device manager, now unplug the cable from your phone, power it off and do the button combination and then plug in the cable, MSM should instantly recognize the device and start the restoration.

Yeah make sure it's exactly the same name of that driver - worked for me on oneplus 9
If you have access to fastboot still. Try switching slots. Then going into EDL

Thanks a lot man. Saved my Day. First 9Pro successfully restored ;-) Thank you and merry Christmas to all.
Guys I do not need to use the MSM Tool Anywhere until I reach the step where my device is being successfully detected as "QDLOADER 9008" in my windows device manager correct?
Or does the MSM Application need to be running when I reboot to EDL mode?
I am following this guide.
Please help
I always have phone powered off, and while holding both volume keys I plug it into USB cord(that is already plugged to pc) and then click on enum(button in msm screen) until it says connected then hurry and click start. Once it starts I can let go of volume keys.. Also more than likely u will need to click the box to "use lite firehose" or "Sahara communicaion" will keep failing.
make sure you have oneplus 9 pro drivers and " qaulcomm incorporated - Ports" Driver) and ("qaulcomm communications inc-Net" Driver) so your phone in edl which will be already most likely be running before you plug it in. just hold down both volume buttons and plug in to the usb port to your pc and release once plugged in and start the msm tool and hit enum it should say connect provided that you have all the necessary drivers above so the pc usb port will be able to communicate/recognize you device. its never usually A 1 and done type of thing. everytime i brick my phone its always the 100th try before i get a com port connected and the software communicating successfully, so just be patient and take your time. you will get it back up and running,
Hey, I wanted to ask in here instead of starting a new thread.
Right now I have an OP9p that wont boot to EDL (Only fastboot or Corrupt page)
I tried the fastboot commands but it won't work and it won't shut down, I have fixed multiple phones using MSM and know all the small issues and how to get around them but it's the first time finding a device that won't shut down and will keep rebooting tried volume up + Power for several seconds tried holding only power or the three.
Nothing it keeps rebooting and won't shut down for me to get into EDL.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Well you have a corrupted boot.img or you would not be trying to edl. Also you probably are holding down multiple buttons to power off to your phone and your either not remembering or forgot that these combination of buttons are booting you into other modes fastboot, recovery or system.
Hi there,
I am looking for some guidance on my bricked Pixel 6 Pro.
I transfered the data from my old pixel, but then decided to do a full flash to refresh. Downloaded the stock image from google, used the fastboot-all script to flash the phone, but as soon as it was done, I never reboot. my phone is looking completely dead since.
Attempt # 1
- black screen, with no sound to any actions of response to any key combination (power or volume keys).
- tried holding the power button for 60 secs, no response
- tried holding power and volume down, no response
- tried holding power and volume up, no response
- when I plug the phone on charge, no response. neither the charging display.
Atempt # 2
- Only time the phone shows some sign of life, is when I connect the phone to my PC, it makes a sound of detecting a device, but then instantly it get a disconnect sound, (in 2-3 sec).
- I tried holding the power button, while plugged in. it makes a sound of usb detection, (but no visual response on the phone) after holder for 30 secs, it makes another sound of usb detach.
- While I am experimentating with PC connection, I also tried fastboot reboot command, it only shows waiting for a device and nothing happens, either on the console or phone.
Not sure, if I have bricked the bootloader, and if yes, what can be done? Any guidance in this regards will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Call whoever you bought the phone from and do warranty claim.
I struggled with a soft bricked / bootlooping phone after removing Magisk. Although my phone at least booted to bootloader and a connection via fastboot was working, the factory images wouldn't flash properly. Google support couldn't help me and I thought I had to send it to repair.
In the end I could solve the issue by switching to the Android SDK 31. I know your case is different, because your phone is bricked worse than mine was, but you could give it a try.

If I remeber correctly flashing factory images forces you to unlock the device. So yes, the bootloader of rao_hamza's device should be unlocked.
From memory you can revive it through QPST and orher Qualcomm utilities, however hard part is to get the files. the phone is too new and many shops dont have the unlock tools yet.
" While I am experimentating with PC connection, I also tried fastboot reboot command, it only shows waiting for a device and nothing happens, either on the console or phone. " - this is still good news, as phone is being detected by windows, try to install Qualcomm drivers and see if you can get it to boot into EDL. GOOD LUCK.
Pixel 6 uses Google's own new Tensor chip - so no Qualcomm tools
Like @Baumhouse I went through something similar. Two things for me: it took way longer to hold power and volume down than any other phone I've owned. I was seriously concerned I wasn't going to get there. Two, the factory images all made it to fastbootd and then failed all because I hadn't updated to the latest SDK.
Just throwing this out in hopes you don't have to send it back.
What @ridobe said. Make sure you're using the latest official Google Platform Tools (there's a link in my thread at the top of my signature below if you need it, or just Google for it). If I had a nickel every time someone didn't update the tools when they went to use them...

This and a bad/wrong cable seem to be the most common culprits

Yes, I don't know who to get into a bootloader in this situation, if that were working I would have some hope.
If you can get to the bootloader you can use google's flashing website, flash.android.com. I just use that to go back to stock, even with an unlocked bootloader.

Sorry, misread the post.
@pysklona came here because I'm in the same boat, hard-bricked my device after running the flash-all script. Was using the most recent version of platform tools and the brand new cable that came with the phone.
Was getting the same result, attaching it to a windows pc makes the attached device chime, but disconnects after a few seconds. It came up first as "Setting up Pixel ROM Recovery". I let it sit overnight and now it doesn't auto-disconnect and I get a serial device under com3 on windows. Attaching it to macos gives me a "Pixel ROM Recovery" device. Despite "recovery" in the name, I think it's actually in EDL mode, not recovery mode. No devices come up for adb or fastboot on windows, linux or macos. Screen is completely blank no matter what.
Not being a Qualcomm chip makes this whole process from here a bit of an unknown, but will assume the process for recovery is more or less the same. Looking into QPST/MsmDownloadTool/OpenPST, although as pointed out, I'm not sure any of those tools will work since this isn't a qualcomm chip. MsmDownloadTool is for oneplus, but maybe something can be modded.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I just returned the device and got myself a new one.
anyways, i am not sure what is causing this hard brick. thats is something we all should be careful about it.
same thing here. pixel 6 from google store. magisk installed on the december update and i downgraded to the november one using the flash-all.bat script. phone reboots and am told the software is corrupt
reboot back into fastboot mode, run the script again. and get this software is corrupt message again
this time I cant' even boot into fastboot/bootloader mode. and plugging the phone into windows gives me the "pixel rom recovery" message
phone seems dead (black screen, not responding to hardware buttons)
any other solutions than to get it replaced?
Hmm, maybe plug it in to a PC via USB to supply it with power (maybe the battery is down) and just do a very long press of the power button - at least 30 seconds - until the phone starts up. If it does and isn't in fastboot you could try "Power-VolDown" to get into fastboot...
If it just doesn't react to all of this and waiting a bit (in case the battery was at 0% and needs some minimal charge) I think a replacement is the only way to go....

You could try Official Google Android Flash Tool. It's merely another method of doing what you effectively tried, but from what I've read, it's helped some folks. Sadly, others have reported that the Official Google Pixel Update and Software Repair hasn't been updated for the P6P yet.
If that doesn't help, hang in there. There are others in here who will likely have even better advice.

appreciate the links. right now, I can't even get into fastboot/bootloader mode. so neither of those tools detect the phone.
@s3axel the battery definitely isn't low. I charged it up before all this specifically so that I know it had plenty of juice (was at 93% or something).
I'm thinking maybe after letting the battery die, charging it back up will let me boot into a special boot mode
but any other ideas, please, I'm all ears
