Just a heads up for those wanting glass screen protectors, Zag is selling them now (unlike Google Store at time of writing) and not sure why but got a big discount. 2 of the Glass Elite VisionGuard+for*Google Pixel 5 for $75 after tax and shipping. They gave me a 30% off discount.
Probably get them cheaper later, but last time we got phones on release date (Pixel 2) we didn't get screen protectors until a week after the phones showed up. So this time we got cases and screen protectors right away.

Bro liquid glass is the way to go. I have been through a ton of glass screen protectors on the 2 XL and they all suck, even the expensive ones. I got liquid glass and never looked back. P5 might be different because the screen is flat, but I'm getting liquid glass anyway. You can always do liquid and throw a glass screen on top of it.

I had mine applied at Fixit Mobile, and I believe they use WowFixit. From what I have read, the products all use Silicon Dioxide as the main ingredient. I don't know that much about the product, except that it works well, it's not noticeable, and does resist fingerprints somewhat. It's not perfect for fingerprints, but I haven't got any scratches in about a year. I have heard that you should reapply after a year, so I probably need to reapply. I will do some research and make a post at some point. I plan to do liquid glass on my P5, so I should post something in the next 2-3 weeks. This is something I looked at recently.

Sounds a lot like the "ceramic coating" that is promoted for use on car paint all the time now. I'd be willing to bet it's the same thing.

The cheap "9H ceramic coating" or spray on SiO2 coatings anyway, not the year-long lasting professional ones.
I just installed the Zagg Invisible Shield Glass Elite + on my Pixel 5 and sadly, it's peeling at the upper right corner. A bit disappointed.

If I'm being honest I've been less than satisfied with their product on my Pixel 2XL. I went through 3 or 4 via their warranty process and just gave up and went naked with a bumper case. Much happier, with minimal scratching after owning since release (preordered).
I'll always use a case because I abuse things but I am finding more and more that screen protectors aren't a necessity, even for someone who throws phones in backpacks etc when out on a trail.
Ordered one and it didn't sit down all the way. It wouldn't stay down on the lower right corner, despite no dust or anything. Ended up disappointed and moved on.
So this is definitely a "your mileage may vary" sort of deal. I purchased two of the zagg protectors, along with a pack of Spigen and Otomon tgsps. So I was prepared.
Anyhow, I did the shower trick installation to keep dust from floating around. First Zagg I used would not apply around the camera lens no matter what. Tried the second Zagg that I ordered and although there were bubbles initially, they went away after 20 mins or so. Perfect installation.
Long story short, you shouldn't have to buy two of a certain tgsp like I did in the event that one is defective, but doing so worked out in my case. Your first application may work correctly or it may not.
Edit:. Also the fitment is perfect. There is no rainbowing on the sides due to being cut short. Could the tgsp have been a little wider? Maybe, but would risk it lifting on one of the sides.

Just happen to search for Xtreme Guard screen protectors and found a 90% off discount code for the OnePlus One screen protectors. They have two options to choose from, the regular screen protector $6.99 each or HD $6.99, I used discount code Mega90off2 and only works if you buy 2 or more. Not sure how long it's valid for but I purchased 6 HD ones and paid only $4.19 free shipping. I've used Xtreme Guard in the past on other devices and it's pretty much a perfect fit. Happy shopping and hit the like button if this helped you!!!!!!!
thanks, I just ordered 3 of each kind for the $4.19. I've used xtreme on my gn2 and n5... they are ok..great for the money.

You're welcome anytime. Ya I used them for my Note 2, Note 3, Nexus 5. Hit the thanks button if this helped you =)
I purchased one for $1.05 earlier this month. IMHO, THEY SUCK! The cutout area for the speaker and camera does NOT stick. Lucky for me, I ordered a set of Illuminshield and they're great! It does a pretty good job on being resistant to finger prints. It still leaves some behind but overall I'm happy with this choice. I'm so glad I only paid $1.05 during July 4th special, other wise I'd ask for my money back from Extreme Guard.
Too bad about the shipping price in Europe. It does cost around $6 to get two screen protectors in Eastern Europe. I'd love one of those but I think I'll have to stick to the chinese screen protectors...at least for now. If someone can ship one or two of those screen protectors for a lower price, I'd love to have a private conversation.
Xtreme Guards has the worst screen protectors of any company. THE WORST....there's a reason they're always 90% off. Google it.
Ive gotten much much much better protectors from ebay for cheap.
Bought 6 pack for 2.99 shipped. Better fitting than xtreme guards (I think they die cut the protectors with a die that hasn't been sharpened in 20 years)

I have no need "Google it" as you said, like I said never had a problem with Xtreme and I will continue to use them.
Been using XtremeGuard screen protectors on all my devices. They work absolutely fantastic. Never any issues with installation. If I had any issues with packaging during transport... They rushed out new ones.
In for 2. Thanks!
I purchased these ones for my new OnePlus One dont know if their any good but will post if they are.

i dont think the scratches will be on the actual guard, peal off the 1 and 2 layers and see.
yeah i've been told this over at the 1+ forums as well. But still doesn't help the shoddy cut. already held it up to my phone and there's a nice huge indent up at the top left corner. Looks like it'll be fine for now, but i'm also just debating on just waiting for any of my other ones to show up.
Just request a refund. I only got these since I'm waiting for my glass ones to arrive from the homeland.
Okay, got mine and it fits alright but it's badly but near the top so there will always be bubbles. They must use the dullest cutters in the world.
Yea i havent had much luck with any of their products outside of the iPhone Spartan Glass. What really sucked was i ordered 2 Spartan glass for my LG G3 and one for a Nexus 5 and both came in cracked. I had to email them. They refunded me which was cool, but kind of sucks. I guess its just best to go to a BestBuy and purchase the $49 zagg glass protectors.

I almost tried every possible maker out there for a glass screen protector for my s8+.. Alllllll are as bad as it can ever be.. From the 50$ glass to the 6$ once..
Given all the above.. And given my experience from the pixel xl.. Rhino was the only company that made a perfect glass screen protector, FULL ADHESIVE.. yes full adhesive, BUTTT no idea if they were able to perfect this one, no mention in the website if it's full adhesive or not, but i took my chances that at least it should work better thab any out there even if not full adhesive.. I pre ordered it, and i think they started shipping..
Crossing my fingers that they will step up and make one that really works.. I live out of the US, so mine will take few more days to arrive, but if any pre ordered and is expecting to receive it soon.. Please share your experience with us here. (while we "i am" waiting)..

I ordered one back on 4/10. That was the first day that I saw the Rhinoshield products for the S8+ online. I ordered the Crashguard bumper as well as the tempered glass screen protector. When I ordered on the 10th the site said the orders would ship from 4/10 - 4/20 for the bumper and 4/15 - 4/25 for the screen protector. The 21st came and my bumper wasn't even shipped, so I sent them a message on Friday asking how I was supposed to protect my phone now LOL....I was being a bit of a jackass but still if they couldn't ship it by the 20th don't tell me you can. The girl sent me back an email offering me free 2 day international shipping and told me that I would for sure be in the first batch if I switched my color to black for the bumper (I had originally gotten the gray to go with my arctic silver phone) so I did. Now she originally told me that the screen protectors would be ready before the bumpers so I assume this package contains both items.....my order says fulfilled and there is nothing to lead me to believe it is partially fulfilled.
Just this morning I got a shipping notice and it has been picked up by Fedex in Taiwan. It is supposed to be at my door on Wednesday according to Fedex.....I'll let you guys know how it is.
Never has luck with glass protectors so i al with wet instsll skinomi ones.
I did order a rhinoshield crash graud.
Kinda sucks that they delay the release.

I just got mine at my house and hour ago. I installed the TGSP first. It isn't what everyone here is hoping for I don't think. Regardless of what the spokesperson told the guy in chat the adhesive does not cover the entire back of the protector, it is just like the other curved ones that have it on the sides/edges. With that said, it does appear to be the good silicone adhesive. I've been rubbing the edges of mine damn near constantly since I put it on and see no lifting yet. I also don't notice any tapping when I touch the screen. It does have those little dots to help with glare or whatever, but this isn't the first glass I've had with those.
Now with all that said......this is my first curved screen phone and thus my first curved screen TGSP. I've read all the posts here about how it sucks for curved screen phones. In this short time honestly I can't tell you that I notice a different between this one and the Zagg glass that I had on my Nexus 6P or the Spigen glass that my wife has on her iPhone 6s. Now granted that might change, but I think as of right now it is decent and will protect my screen from scratches. Now the fact that it doesn't have adhesive across the device leads me to believe that the impact protection of this TGSP versus a flat one that is adhered across the whole screen is not as good.....but I don't drop my phone much.
I also got the crashguard bumper from them and it is OK. It feels a little loosey goosey even for a bumper but I think I can live with it. The only real issue that I see with it is the button over the bixby button won't actually touch/actuate the bixby button itself. The power and volume rocker work fine even if they are tighter than ****'s hat band. The cutouts for the mics, speaker, USC-C port, and headphone jack are spot on accurate.

Unfortunately it appears that either that person did lie to you or they were ignorant to the way the thing was really designed.
Now that you mention it I looked again and I do see a tiny spot of rainbow effect. It is small so I wouldn't really care, but the problem is it is directly in the circle for my left eye when the iris scan pops up....kind of annoying.
I don't have another camera handy to take a pic at the moment....when I get home from work I'll try to see what kind of pics I can get of the edges with my wife's ip6s. So stand by for a few hours on those

Thank you for your detailed update..
Honestly i wasn't expecting them to reach the level of full adhesive, for one simple scientific reason, curved screens are not identical, there is always a difference in the curving margin that is acceptable from manufacturing quickly prespictive (i remember reading an article about that), and the adhesive should be really thick (relatively) to avoid that margin which will reflect into bluring the screen and lowering the clarity to a very noticeable level..
Given all that, my hopes were just for them to make something that is more decent than what's in the market, and from ur description, i can say "MAYBE".. I will have to wait and see when i get mine, coz i literally tried everything there, except for the siphhire semi-film/glass by zagg, and the genuine Samsung thick plastic protector - waiting for those to arrive, They both are a middle way solution, nor a film neither a glass, just a thick plastic protector..
I've had the phone since the 20th April and we just surpassed the 1 month mark after official release. I have used a wet application plastic film screen protector since the first 5 minutes and now want to get the screen protected.
Has there been a viable full coverage screen protector released that doesn't cost stupid amounts?
Whitestone Dome, if you are willing to take the time to install correctly, is the best TGSP on the market. It's not even close.

$45 is not that much money. You spent $800 on the phone ><
I also recommend Whitestone Dome. The clarity and feeling is superb. Keep it mind you need to test the case carefully because once it lifts the screen, bubbles will appear (and that drives me crazy). The price tag is high but, seriously, it's well worth it. Cheaper than replacing the screen
I have insurance in my device that is about 65 USD (£50 GBP) hence my reluctance to spend on a screen protector when I could get a new device for little more, and then not able to keep the protector anyway
Whitestone Dome is junk.
I do not recommend Whitestone Dome after one week it was junk save your money.

are you sure the screen is not lifted by the case (if you're using one?)? cause mine has been going on well for a few weeks. everything is still cool.
Whitestone Dome is junk.
Yes I installed it right work for a week.
I installed the Whitestone dome glass over a week ago and it's still perfect, I have purchased a lot of screen protectors for curved glass and this is the only one that has been satisfactory

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one boss. I've had this thing for right at a month and no dust, lifting, bubbles or other issues at all. Sounds like you may have had a poor installation.

It sounds like he may not had enough adhesive, which I have read reviews where people's adhesive has leaked out during shipping or they didn't level the device and it didn't spread properly, mine is very secured and I have even pried on it lightly to see if it would lift
for one thing, before the installation, you can check the level of the surface using Bubble Level app to make sure when you drop the glue, it will stay in the center. Also notes that when lowering the glass, let it touch the liquid first and then quickly pull out the tab to reduce the possibility of it splashes (which makes bubbles later - i did this on my first installation and the liquid took a lot longer than it should to cover the whole thing).
Check out the zagg sapphire shield. It has adhesive all over instead of just the edges.
As the title states, are they necessary? I've always used glass protectors but when I realised this was not really possible for the S7E I ended up using the Shark proof liquid screen protector here:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0178AURT8/ref=psdcmw_329083031_t1_B014UZJHW2
After 1 year of use I've had no scratches at all. I'm wandering is this due to the shark proof or just because I'm careful with the phone, rarely drop it and never have keys in the same pocket. Is the gorilla glass alone enough protection? Who has had no problems without using any sc screen protectors? Getting the S8+ soon.
Gorilla glass is flexible, not scratch or crack proof. Its use in mobile devices is an odd thing really since its not what its best at. I have a small scratch on my S8+, although its not noticeable, there are also very fine abrasions that you can only see at an angle with the screen off.
Unfortunately screen protectors for the S8 seem to be complete rubbish so far, not sure why since the S6 edge models had some really good ones. Im guessing there is a slight curve all around the screen edges on the S8 which make it harder to make one. The liquid protectors dont do much except make the screen more slick, so prevent anything capable of scratching from digging into the surface so quickly, kind of like how waxing a car helps prevent light swirl marks.
While I like the look and feel of the bare glass, I am more appreciative of a matte finish with reduced glare, so using one of the various matte screen protectors works out well for me. Oh the horror. I also don't trust leaving the glass bare in the various places I need to carry it, like a cycling backpack.
I highly recommend whitestone dome glass screen protector. Been using it since first week of release up until now. Its perfect if you install it correctly!

I have to disagree, they're fairly expensive, which wouldn't be an issue if they didn't pretty much kill edge functionality.
everything can and will scratch.
for $20 you can't beat:

I just ordered this.
Good review and he says but it still working good after a few weeks. Read the comments.
Dendrobates is crap in terms of being case-friendly.
It's the same as the $2 ones from Aliexpress. It's a PET film. Full adhesive, but not case-friendly. Dendrobates is overpriced. Get one from Aliexpress if you aren't using a case.

Got this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B071W2YDTW/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Works well with the Spigen Liquid Air case.
Ringke Invisable Defender. Been using it for 3 months and no lifts, dust buildup. Case friendly. Using on spigen liquid air.
I'll just answer the question of the thread starter.
Yes.

I'll answer the OP, too. No, they are not "needed". Haven't used one on any phone for 7+ years. No issues.

Thanks, just ordered. I hope it's not a problem with touching the edges.
Had the S8+ for a week before the screen developed a scratch . Depends on your area and what you do for work . Do you live in an area where there is alot of sand ? If so then higher probability you will get sand on the screen at some point without you realizing it and scratch it . Do you have an office job ? Do you go to school full time ? Do you work construction ? All factors that will determine if you screen can or will be scratched . Mine was scratched probably due to the fact I had a small spec of sand on my thumb without realizing it and swiped on my screen and boom scratch . I now have a screen shield on mine , cant see the scratch and wont scratch the screen further . But in the end its strictly your choice and how comfortable you will be with it . Glass scratches , I dont care of its Gorilla glass 4 , 6 , 15 or if they call it (Insert name here) Glass . Its friggen glass LOL

Dendrobates screen protector is an unique product which is diiferent with other product you see in the market.it is for full and curved screen, scratch resistent, shatterproof.not overprice, the cost is higher, you can order one to compare with others. or did you order it and test it?What is the order number for Dendrobates screen protector?I will check it for you.
I have to agree that it depends on your usage. I have NEVER used a screen protector and have had very little issue. I think my Note 3 had a scratch from a fall once, but that was it. I always carry my phone in my shirt pocket but my gf puts it in her purse where there is alot of junk bouncing around. I guess she night benefit from one.

I keep looking for this on Amazon and havent seen it yet, when it comes out I will pay a lot for it. They really are the best glass screen protectors for the money!

Anyone knows when this screen protector will be out (preferably on Amazon) ?
I had really good experience with it on my older device and I want it also for my Pixel 3.

On their twitter they announced they'd be releasing them some time in November - https://twitter.com/whitestonedome/status/1054799639529095168
Hopefully earlier rather than later, the one I'm using now doesn't cover my full display area and it's a tad annoying.

These Mr Shield ones - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FTHLLB2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_QS9ZBbBZ7K44T
I will say I think I prefer these over the ones with the black bezels that don't have full adhesive. I had issues with those on my OnePlus 5.

Ahh gotcha. Was curious if you had the Zagg "Made for Google" one. I was thinking of getting the Zagg until Whitestone but that's a lot to spend on thin pieces of glass.
I'm a huge fan of Whitestone, especially after my experience with it in my 2XL. With that said, I got the Verizon branded screen protector to use in the meantime and I am so impressed I can't see a reason anymore to get the Whitestone. Only cost me $19 too.

How's the screen coverage? Any ghosting/lifting around the edges?
Sent from my SM-T820 using Tapatalk
It's 100% edge to edge of the viewable display and since it has adhesive all over, there is no ghosting or rainbow effects. I had one of the corners initially not 100% attached (lower right), but one day after having it in the bathroom with a hot shower, the steam must have fixed it and now it's 100% flawless.
My advice is to align it first with masking tape while the screen is lit, then just keep masking tape on one side to flip it onto the screen once it's been cleaned.

my verizon glass didnt do very well, wouldnt seal on the bottom left corner. it was installed by the verizon tech. they said it would go away, never did. i will probably order this glass when it comes available. i like the process, and how it really centers on the screen. this glass with my MNML case.. should be perfect.
Oh yeah the way the glue spreads when you place the White Stone Glass Screen Protector is amazing. I had it on my S9 and I will never go back to anything else. I have the Verizon one on my Pixel 3 right now and yeah there is one little tiny corner that never sticks but it so tiny I can barely see it unless I am in the right light. It works for now until White Stone gets one out for us.

When installing these screen protectors it really helps to do it in the bathroom with a hot shower running. The humidity keeps the dust down. Youll probably be sweaty when your all done putting it on but its worth it.
