First, thank you guys. Just bought a note 8 WiFi version GT-5110. It is a good device, loved it. I've been researching and reading all over the posts about rooting, install custom rom, firmware and etc... I guess the first thing to do is to root my note 8. So, before I root my device I want to know for sure I can return back to original unmodified stock. I found that I can use ODIN to flush official firmware. However, I checked samMobile for the firmware for my country which is Canada. But I couldn't find. I used toolkit to check my note 8 firmware. It is N5110XXBMC9 and the region is XAC. It is the oldest. Hate it, we are so close to the us but always treated differently, and very thing is more expensive.
Question:
1 Can I just flash US region firmware? Since I have the WiFi, it has nothing to do with the phone and carrier. Or, can someone tried to flush a different region firmware tell me what is the outcome.
2 If I flash an US firmware, will I still able to claim warranty in Canada(just in case).
3 Will Flushing firmware with ODIN increase flush count, even I flush with official stock?
4 Last question, after rooting, will note 8 achieve floating multiwindow like note 10. Or, we are still limited to have to window side by side, but with rooting, we can put more apps to choose.
I know you guys are busy, if anyone can help me or point a useful post for me I would be really appreciated.

I would also like to know the answer to this question as I have a New Zealand international model but the rom is old. Can I flash the UK version which is the most uptodate. (I have the wifi version).
Thanks
I decided to give it a try myself.
I flashed the latest BTU N5110XXBMF2 which worked a treat. I checked and this is what is displayed
Custom Binary Download = No
Current Binary = Samsung Official
System Status = Official
So it worked fine for me.

Hello. I am also having this issue, with a GT-N5110 from canada. May I ask the steps in which you flashed the firmware? Did you do it via Odin?

I just downloaded the firmware and used Odin. It didn't wipe the sdcard it just updated the apps. Its worked well ever since.
I have since updated to N5110XXCMK1 using the same method.
Regards
Colin
Thanks. I used the same method to flash 4.2.2 on my device. I am also now on xxcmk1.

flash counter
Hi guys! I was looking to know about this. And I got a few question:
1. I want to make sure about the flash counter. If I change to XXCMK1 my rom, the flash counter goes to 1, or would be like the note 8.0 came with that stock room (nothing change in the counter)?
2. It is a little off of the main question but I will ask anyway: have you tried to add icloud email to the native email manager in the XXCMK1 rom? (Asking just in case you did it, since I read that rom is the one that doesnt have problem to set up in the native email manager?
Thank you guys (literally). I will appreciate your answers.

1. My flash counter did not change when I flashed 4.2.2 using Odin.
But it did when I used auto cf root afterwards to root the phone.
2. Nope I haven't tried.

I had an issue where I (think) I soft-bricked my device, as I could not get it to boot up, it would get stuck on the "samsung" logo and then display a black screen and go no further. My device is Canadian as well, and was running stock Canadian firmware, but I had rooted it before hand and was attempting to flash firmware from another country.
Well, I ended up downloading the US firmware for 4.2.2 from another thread here on XDA and flashed that in a last attempt to fix it, and it worked! But now I'm running US firmware. Since the KitKat update is now available in Canada, I'm downloading that as we speak and am going to flash it when it's done.

Update: flashing went great, just had to remove the .md5 at the end of the ROM file. Everything seems to be in order.
Hey everyone.
I'm running on completely Stock 5.1.1 OK1 on my Note 4 and just recieved the official MM OTA update last night. Due to my phone having a lot of junk and being laggy I decided to flash the official firmware from any external method to have a clean install of the os. I heard about Samsung Kies which makes a back up of your phone and installs the latest os, I installed and backed up my phone last night but it didn't seem to give me an update on the os, it said "This is the latest version" (5.1.1 COK1).
My main concern about this is. I've bought this phone from Pakistan (used phone but in brand new condition) and I'm currently living in Malaysia and I have no idea who was the previous owner of this phone. In Kies it shows the phone number different than what I have (maybe its the Sprint phone number?).
What if my carrier is locked by having a clean install? Or any sort of other related issue occurs.
Please take some time to enlighten the facts from your knowledge, will highly appreciate it.
Regards.
waiting for official release bro. If rom is released on sammobile, see the icon kies highlighted on the right.

Yeah but you totally missed my question here.
Its not that I don't want to do some research myself, I'm a student and I'm busy most of the time. So if anyone can take out their precious time to answer my question I'd really appreciate the help.
If you're concerned about your phone or sim getting lock..you can just use galaxy tools apk v3.1.5 & then upgrade the apk to v3.1.8 & it will unlocked it for you... but i doubt it will lock you down... maybe you can just try to back your rom completely & restore if any issues encounter
it's dependent on the way that they unlocked the phone, someone in vietnam has been locked after updated the phone, but my phone was not.

And I have no idea how my phone was unlocked, I just bought it like this. I can see the Sprint phone number on Samsung Kies maybe I should write an email to Sprint asking them to unlock it using that Sprint phone number?
Hey guys!
I am new to XDA, so if I have posted incorrectly here please forgive me. So I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 Live Demo Unit (SM-G960XU) and I wanted to flash a non-demo version onto the device, but I am unsure about which version to try.
So I was able to disable the Retail Mode (It will now allow Factory Reset, it won't wipe itself every few minutes, and will not play the annoying demo screensaver, etc), but the LDU version of the Android Software on this phone limits charging the battery to only 70% which is not ideal.
I have read a few forums stating that flashing the Demo Unit with the original International version of the software works, but these demo units all have the model number SM-G960X (not SM-G960XU). So I was wondering if anybody has done this on the G960XU device and if so did you use a SM-960F ROM or SM-906U ROM? Also, if you had any suggestions or ideas, please let me know! I am worried about which version to choose as I do not want to brick the phone.
No, the device is not stolen or illegal. The phone was purchased legitimately and legally from a store who no longer needed the demo unit. Yes, I know the phone does not have a modem and will never be able to make calls or act as a normal phone. I was able to get the phone just to experiment with and to have fun exploring Android.
Any suggestions or help you guys can provide is greatly appreciated!

By all logic you should flash U (US), U1 (US Unlocked, slower updates but wider CSC), 0 (Glogal Snapdragon Unlocked, wider CSC but not for North America) or W (Canada) firmware and you'll be good to go. Just install AIDA64 and check which CPU you have. I suspect you have the Snapdragon, so the said ROMs will work. ONLY the said ROMs. Flashing F or N will brick your phone. But if you have the Exynos, flash F (N is for Korea)
I have problem with G960XU. I'm flash it to G960U and now it stuck booting on "SS RDX Subsystem Crashed: MODEM!". Can sombody help me?
From what I've read I don't think you can actually flash the G960XU/G965XU because of the modem issue
any updates on what firmware has worked in flashing the s9 plus G965XU?

Hey guys, so I have a US Live Demo unit I got from ebay a couple days. I decided to try and flash through odin the SM-G960U1 Pie update and now it looks like my Galaxy S9 is stuck.
I get an error that says: Secure Check Failure: Modem. Which is weird because I was under the impression that demo units don't have Modems since they can't be used as phones.
Then it tells me the device is locked.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I've attempted flashing the only combination rom I could find, but it doesn't work through Odin for some reason.
Hey did you find the firmware yet? I have the same issues. Anyone help?
I converted the firmware of G960XU to G960U
Hello Everyone, a google search brought me over here to these forums towards this thread about the same specific phone! anyone has any idea how I can change the flash of the demo unit? I'm new to this and would like to get all the useful information as possible. Also, I know for sure demo unit's can't be connected to a carrier as their motherboards doesn't have an IMEI/baseband (found out all of this through google searches) now, I'd like to know if I were to change the motherboard, are there possibles to use the phone?
