Hi there !
I am a veteran ROM installer Thinking of buying used samsungs for the family.
I am looking at used S9's, but wanted to ask, which versions of the S9 to avoid when considering simple flashing, bootloader unlocking, and TWRP installations ?
That way I don't burn money for nothing.
Thanks !

Get international Samsung S9 only one that comes with the option to oem unlock in developer settings to be able to flash twrp magisk and custom roms or GSI (but you wouldn't need to do that thiers plenty of custom roms for the S9)
([emoji88]Omni Rom[emoji88])
Gotcha, International Version. But how do I recognize what is International ? Is there a special device code that I need to look for on the back of the device, or on the box ?

It ends with F or simply Google S9 international so you get the model number

960F !
Great, so that would be the one to try and find.

Oh no. Eek.
I've just bought a g960F/DS version. Am I going to have problems trying to do the things you said?
I think I can take the phone back tomorrow if so. I saw the "F" and thought I was good to go, but is "F/DS" a weird version that will only have limited support for ROMs etc?
Thanks in advance.

I believe that's a duo sim international device but yeah if it's not international there's no oem unlock no oem unlock basically means your stock on stock....

The thing is though, what had made me go ahead was that I'd read somewhere that Lineage supported g960F/D.
I'll try and find the link but, in case you're reading this now, does that sound impossible?
EDIT: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/starlte/
Supported models
SM-G960F
SM-G960F/DS
SM-G960N

I've flashed roms many times before but not for ages and I've forgotten what oem unlock even means.
Does the fact that Lineageos is supported mean that in fact there IS oem unlock? And does that mean that I can use most other roms too and basically have the same flexibility that I would have if I had a g960F?
There's this too, PoochyX: Putting LineageOS on a Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F/DS)

Hi, is there anyway I can convert a Galaxy S6 Edge from T-Mobile to International variant? I used to own a HTC One and I could simply change the CID and MID to be able to install different ROMs and firmwares form other Htc One variants.

I routinely used International Roms on my Tmob S5 no issues. Simply root then flash whatever. The Tmob variant used the Qualcomm processor so one had to just make sure they flashed the correct International version, which as far as Tmob goes, was the KLTE International model.

Never really a good idea here on XDA asking "What is the best ROM". It is so early in the game right now I would just watch the Forum posts here and on the XDA International site for ROMs as they come out from various developers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general
Here is a link to the general section for the Samsung galaxy S6 which references the International site. Plus I have no clue at this time if they will be mixing and matching S6 vs S6 Edge Roms, just because the Edge obviously will have a few more capabilities. Again, this is way too early in the game to be even thinking about a 'best Rom"
Also interested to know if it can be converted to international so I can get international updates instead of waiting for Tmobile to push it out. Flashing roms is a no-brainer. Now that all S phones have the same hardware, I'm interested in straight conversion like HTC phone(s) are able to do.
Sent from my SM-G920T using XDA Free mobile app
.
if I understood correctly , I have G920T (from T-Mobile US), I'll be able to upload the firmware of an international G920F. Settings of LTE will change just as it has a model F ?
What about the wifi calling? You would lose this with the international rom wouldn't you? I had actually been thinking about getting the international (for the green that us disenfranchised Yanks don't get) and then putting tmo software on it.
Considering we have TWRP it should be a matter of time until we are running international roms. If I wasn't going to work I would be flashing it now

I'm wondering if I should attempt to flash an international rom. We do have twrp of course and if anything weird happens it is an odin fix away granted.
I guess I'll be intrepid and try it out. I sort of need to have an int'l rom because I also need to sim unlock the device

All Snapdragon (US) Galaxy S8/8+ have locked bootloaders meaning no custom roms. However, root is available with some draw backs.

Hi all I got a chance to play around with a G960u for Tmobile and I reflashed the software to Combination R2. Long story short I allow developer mode and saw oem toggle!!! Also the combination was running Android 8.0. I remember g950u root was achieved up until r3 I believe but no android oreo. So devs feel free to do what you do best. Hope this helps.

The only options i saw on lg-firmwares for my device (G820UM) were US cellular, verizon, or CAN.
I flashed the CAN version and it’s great except I can’t make calls. Is there a certain version you guys recommend for limited bloat that will also allow calls?

Yes, if you're in the US, flash the version that says USA. And, the firmware you're looking at is the G820QM not G820UM. They are interchangeable, but the UM is carrier specific.
So just to be clear I can flash the USA G820QM KBZ on my G820UM and it will work fine?

Yes it will work. Many, including myself, have done it many times.
The hardware of these devices, the QM and UM, are the same. It's just that the QM rom comes on unlocked devices, whereas the UM comes on carrier specific, usually locked, devices.
But if your's is carrier unlocked, then you can flash the QM and essentially have the exact same thing, except for one thing, your imei will always identify the device as Sprint, or ATT or whatever it was originally. So be sure to only use a carrier that doesn't care about that.

but if I flash OPEN_CA LMG820UM everything'll work except CALLS?
And the device we're talking about is LMG820UM AT&T.
And which set of ROMs out of these https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmg820qm-firmwares/?

hello,I want to F936U flash F936u1 Firmware,how can I do?
I'm absolutely sure that you can do that.
I have tried it yesterday and successfully changed the model.
But, you can't flash it via ordinary Odin. You have use a patched Odin which can be found in XDA and flash the u1 firmware in it.

我绝对确定你可以做到这一点。
我昨天试了一下,成功换了型号。
但是,你不能通过普通的 Odin 来刷机。您使用了一个可以在 XDA 中找到的修补过的 Odin,并在其中刷新 u1 固件。

Just a note that although it doesn't matter, it was originally a SM-F936U (updated to U1 then W)

Hey shorty I bought it used with U firmware and just to be safe to make sure it's stock and the fact U (and W) versions didn't get much updates, I flashed with the U1. Android 13 was released first for unbranded Canada XAC and since I'm actually using on Canadian networks, might as well. So far ok. No issues to report.

Hey I'm not too sure if you mean this, but yes mine is factory unlocked (actually a dev/demo device). And yes on Canadian network. You can always flash with the newest ATT ROM if yours is from ATT but hasn't gotten updates. Just make sure it indeed is the right model.

I did not keep user data so not sure if you can or should. But I think if you're switching model/CSC, the general consensus is to do a clean flash. If you just want to enable Canadian bands that are disabled on a US device, you can search up a way to do so I think using engineering mode.

If you're on any of the U or U1 firmware, I think you can safely flash to any other U/U1 without any issues. I usually cross reference with samfw and Frija too. Have a wonderful day too friend.
Would this enable Sim for phones without it? The SM-F9360 does not have esim support, could be software, I hope.
Can i go from U to W and then root? Or not possible?
Can I go from ATT and flash TMO variant if the model number is the same? SM-F936U? The phone is unlocked FYI. [email protected]
