Is my battery usage normal? Please advise me - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

I've s20 Exynos.
My battery is draining 15% per hour on 120hz mode and 12% on 60hz mode when screen on. Is this normal?
I've asked samsung customer care and they said it's normal but I used OnePlus 6t before and it take only 8% per hour.
Please advise me.

explain more : wifii or 5g ? Bluetooth on ? gps ? sync ? how many apps notifications on ? instagram? facebook??
Sent from my SM-G988B using Tapatalk

4g mobile data, gps, bluetooth and sync off
Aod off, nearby scanning off
Bixby off, Lower brightness, Dark mode on
Did all battery optimizations settings
Only browsing web with chrome. No background apps running. Not using Instagram and Facebook

It is completely normal for exynos version (unfortunately). Snapdragon versions have better battery life, but your SOT is among better results for exynos versions of s20.

I would like to know how much battery per hour does Snapdragon version consume when screen on. I'm expecting answer from Snapdragon s20 users. Please let me know guys

its normal even i had doubts in my s20 exynos version but with 120hz and 60 hz doesnt get much difference my phone overall goes 1 day on heavy usage eg.. wifi on, fb insta scrolls, location only for health app and camera app... bixby and other features are turned off... gaming of 1 hour asphalt usually consumes 25% of battery which seems too high but wait its september 24 and no patch has released this month..wait i guess a big fix is coming on the way

I'm still expecting battery life from s20 SD users. Please answer me guys

if refresh rate 120 hz than normal , if its 60hz than not normal i believe

perhaps you can change to 96hz

I have snapdragon s20 ultra. Everything on. 60htz. 1080. Get 1 hour screen on time with about 8% to 9%

Regular ol' S20 (g981W) SD. Not debloated, just apps disabled where possible . Sure it's an avg # but true

I don't see any battery difference on 96hz and 120hz

Camera and Battery issues question

Hi.
So purchased note 10 plus exynos a month ago.
Just wanted to find out other user experiances to help me to decide if I need to send phone away or my expectations ware too high.
So 1st would be camera specificly anything recorded at 60fps 4k and 1080p.
Indoors with good lighning anything at 60fps recording looks blurry and unfocused compared to 30fps.
Disabled scene optimizer and stabilization still same blurry results at 60fps
If its possible to someone record a 4k60fps video indoor for me to help to compare.
And the 2nd would be battery life.
Not charging over the night .But usualy charge it once I wake up.Waking up at 6.30 and taking phone of charger and leaving home at 8am.Around 16.00 I am left with 30% battery with 4h OST used no gaming just music streaming ,browsing internet and youtube.
Most apps are set to sleep ,battery to optimized ,screen brightness at 40% ,no Bluetooth,NFC ,4g just wifi /NO auto sync /no AOD .
As well using naptime to doze up system when on idle.
My old S8 plus with custom rom had better battery life and with 4k60 cam mode even better recoding.
As well did factory reset on the phone.
Might be something wrong I am doing ?
Any help would be appriciated
You got a lemon. Return it and get a replacement.
For the battery part, i'm on a exynos model, i can confirm i have the same ****ty battery idle drain as yours (5SOT max). Aprox 2% per hours on idle with some tweaks to improve it, and i've already did 2 factory reset, and tracked everything that could drain the battery with BBS ! That's horrible... But i'm getting 10% drain with the screen on, which is good (9hrs of SOT theoritically)
Awesome my luck has been against me for these couple months .Sent monitor for repair arrived damaged none took the blame that was 700euro in trash.
Now I spoiled myself with flagship phone witch makes me miss my S8 plus.
Guess will send it to repair service next week and wait 10 long days till I get it back.Bad part that here in ireland all the repair services even those witch are sponsored by Samsung is crap.

You can reduce standby drain to 1% per hour by choosing the medium power saving mode, and you won't notice much difference in the performance ( I even keep always on display on)

Can confirm this. Also snooze all your apps you don't really need the notifications from. It really makes a big difference.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Samsung Galaxy S11 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I get around 5 hrs of screen on time on th lte varient (exynous)(fhd+ 60hz)(no always on screen) i think it should get more with the 4000 mah battery , also there is some standby drain , i checked and turned off couple of google services as well as stopped some background processes from facebook , hope to see an update to fix the issues
Managed to reach 6:30 SOT on G980F 4G variant. Using 120 Hz refresh rate SOT is lower
A bit over 5hrs with NFC, Bluetooth and always on display (120hz)
I got 6:40 with 30% left at 120hz... I will post screen shots and details tomorrow

Off top of my head, turned off 5g, no AOD, dark theme (obviously), system tracing off, location off. I tried with both adaptive performance on/off (seemingly same result). I believe this is everything, I removed a few apps from Samsung.

It seems you have the 5G variant with Snapdragon 865, you idle drain is very less. Exynos variants normally suffers a lot from the idle drain.
1st charge cycle on my exynos s20 got me 4.30 hours of screen on time.with always on display off rest everything on.
After doing some adjustments...
Turn off 5G network (SF is not 5G ready)
Set to 60hz, fhd display
Turned off adaptive brightness
Improved SOT
6 hrs and 45 mins
17 hours total battery life
Sent from my SM-G981U using Tapatalk
Another update:
Keeping the same setting except going for 120hz display.
SoT - 7 hrs and 6 mins
Total battery life - 13 hours
I might keep this setting going forward.

Am getting around 4hrs sot on 4g version (exynos) 120hz enabled which is very bad hoping for a fix, anyone else have the same experience?
Should we see better screen on time or battery life in general over the next few days?

Download a battery monitor and post some screenshots and we can help figure out what's causing the drain
Why doesn't Samsung have SoT included in their own in-house Battery monitor? Coming from OnePlus 7 and Pixel 3. Can't recall the last phone that didn't include SoT since last full charge.

No, it originated from some clitbait titles if I remember correctly?.
However, I do not restore apps and their settings(restoring other stuff should be just fine) as they do not run properly sometimes that way.

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Samsung Galaxy S11's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.

Hmmm, your s20 is showing amazing stats. It is not any particular app. I am sure device js taking time to seetle.
Are you on 120?
My screen on consumes too much 16% an hour.
After returning one handset to O2 thinking it was faulty because of the standby drain I got my 2nd one
A exynos chip S20.
After changing all the settings such as refresh rate, dark mode, disabled apps, sleep settings, always off, 5g ... It still drained something terrible.
I dropped from 100 to 77 percent in 1 hour, checking the battery stats there was no single app using it.
I did find that after a factory reset and manual install of apps (not smartswitch) it lasted a little longer but no way I'd get through a work day one one charge

Don't know what settings you have or what's wrong with yours, but I have the US Snapdragon S20+, and my battery is absolutely awesome, standby drain included. My settings are dark mode, hidden 96hz refresh rate, WiFi full-time (damn COVID19), optimized mode for battery, location and Bluetooth on full-time, no NFC on ever, and automatic brightness settings. Like I said, I've gone 2 full days on a charge before, but pretty much always get around 36hrs, with 9-10hrs of screen on time. I'm loving this phone ??

This is crazy figures! I don't get why Samsung are rpping Europeans off with the crappy exynos models. I have the exynos variant and need to turn aeroplane mode on overnight and get 0.4/hr drop.
Sot is usually about 8-9%/hr so from a full charge I should expect 9-10hrs SOT. I have had to fiddle with my settings a lot though.
Rubbish.
Do you guys have auto sync on? That affects battery but I don't know how bad it affects it.
Love to know how. Iv sacked off the device now. #worsehandsetever lol
That's issue with exynos have to do a lot of tinkering disabling apps and other stuff turning location and sync off and aod, ridiculous really, seems like snapdragon is top drawer straight out the box
I wonder how many people jumped into this thread to give a 1 star after owning the phone for less than a week. Give the phone time to learn your usage patterns, jesus christ.
dear all,
I managed to reduce the standby battery drain for Exynos.
Now if you don;t use the phone the battery won;t get consumed.
I am using Package Disabler Pro and some bloatware xml
i will create a thread here step by step how to.
cheers.
My S20+ Exynos drains about 0.3% overnight. Nothing special, wifi always on, sync on, 120 hz.
I had S10 SD version and it was draining 1.5-2% overnight on same settings
My s20 ultra exynos drains the same, ~2% overnight, but that is after ATD3 update
Always I am getting very bad results
I swithed off 5g and screen is running at 60htz
Battery drain on stand by is around 2% on wifi and around 4% if i use 4g data
Other thing that my phone is warm almost all the time.
I disabled many apps but with no improvment.

Here are my screen on time results with 60hz and FHD. Just experimenting with different settings to see the results. Honestly I don't feel battery is bad with auto resolution and QHD either I feel like this phone does very well on battery.
Not as good as the 6t but, it's pretty good.
Looking even more like the 6t screen on times now!

My last screen shot was wifi, lte, no 5g, fhd, 60hz, printing service off, find my device off and I believe that's it. Honestly I don't see a dramatic difference in screen quality with these setting either. It's noticeable but definitely not THAT noticeable and honestly it's worth it if you need your phone to last for long periods between charges.

I was getting quite good battery life on 10.0.19 but battery has taken a pretty good hit since the 10.0.25 update. I may try factory reset to see if that helps.
I'm pretty sure people with bad battery live have 90hz on and 5g on. And so do I, I get about 4-5hrs sot in a whole day of usage, between WiFi and 5g .. light gaming, texting, Instagram, Facebook, messenger and some other apps.

That is actually not entirely true, I have the European variant of McLaren without 5G modem I this is by far the worst SOT I ever experienced on an OnePlus device. And I have had them since the beginning. I can barely scrape up 4h - 4.5h SOT over an 24-48h time period
on a full charge cycle. Note I'm not even on stock kernel so I would expect SOT be up 8-10h without any bigger problems. What I'm trying to make out if my battery is bad or the complete phone, and if that would come to that I would return it to the seller in flash.
Batt stats and kernel logs show active drain between 8-10% per hour and idle drain to 1.5-2.5% per hour. Numbers don't say much to me however active drain seems very high to me. I know that the display consumes a lot for sure but I'm not really sure if this is too high or not.
I'm on FHD+ resolution but with 90Hz refresh rate and adaptive background light. To summarize it all, I'm hugely disappointed with my device in perspective of battery life. Feel free to drop comments or suggestions on what I can do. Perhaps give some figures on idle and active
drain if you have them.

Did anyone try to select only 2G/3G/4G in Preferred Network type and then check the battery life/ drain?

best real battery life S10 or S20 under exynos ?

Hello,
I upgraded to the new S20 since tuesday but it seems my S10 at same screen definition FHD+ and 60Hz refresh rate was lasting more in real daily life use, phone, chat, surf on wifi or 4G.
I wonder if the battery will improve within the next days or if I should keep my S10 to get a better battery life.
I just don't want to buy a new phone with less battery life .
Kind regards.
the 120hz refresh rate screen is affecting the battery performance pretty drastically. I read that you get 30% more screen-on time on the S20 when it's configured to 60hz.
I believe that you should compare between the S10 and the S20 while both on 60hz and decide according to that.
on daily basis you can use 120hz and on days that you need more battery usage - move to 60hz.
Already did, thx
