Does anybody know a good data recovery app? Probably need to factory reset my phone after being locked out.

I changed my password and forgot it. I tried using samsung's find my mobile but it says my phone did not set it up. Google's phone finder does not work with android 10. I just went on vacation and have media saved on the internal card but want to retrieve it somehow. I can factory reset but want to try to see if anybody had ideas on how I can keep my data? This is a snapdragon US version. Root doesn't seem possible either. Thanks for your time.

Hi @sd97cl
I would suggest you take a step back and ask yourself if, in your case, you would reply the stated question.
If you don't, know that on XDA it's an unwritten common sense rule to not support what can be a suspicious attitude. I do apologise if it's not your case but I do emphasise the "can be".
Still remains, as you've suggested, the option of factory reset.
Nice regards and good luck on your search,
.

If you tried too many times you get locked out for 72 hours until you can try again I think... never been there, don't want to.
I regularly backup to the SD card... just in case.

You get timed countdowns on the device starting at 1 min lockout. 3 5 and so on line of deal. If you change your Google password and reset your device you get locked out for 72 hours. I've had it happen once lol.

You mean to screen lock has a count down on it?
The worst nightmares in Android seem to work like that... no pressure.
Probably best to close the Goggle account before a hard reset. Wish I could disable all that junk easily.

Yea screen lock has countdown. I don't know why I was thinking Google oh yea. When he factory resets with password lock more than likely hell be frp locked upon reset so hell have to manage that

Lol, those countdowns are enough to permanently traumatized anyone
I like the one "Adroid kernel has stopped" it starts a few minutes apart but eventually gets to about once a second. Or sometimes there's no "countdown" warning at all, surprise!
Try navigating to Device Administrators in one or two second intervals to deactivate a package blocker.
It's that or a reload.

Were you signed into Samsung on your phone before it got locked? If so, you can use Samsung's Find my Mobile from your computer and it will allow you to change the password there.

i have forgetten my pattern and my phone is samsung galaxy gio and ihave installed a cayanagen mod 4 so what can i do ?
If you cannot shut it down, take out the battery.
Then, reboot into recovery and do a factory reset.
That should work.
Shouldn't it ask for your Google account password after enough incorrect tries?
Otherwise: factory reset the thing.

After some failed attempts, it will ask for your Google account credentials. Input the same and it will solve the problem.
If everything fails, just flash it with another ROM.
Yes, me idiot brother (just kidding) gave his galaxy ace to his four year old daughter to play with. Took her maybe two minutes to lock it permanently. All it needed was the google credentials and it was unlocked.
On a sidenote, I wonder when the paranoia will kick in and these kind of questions will be forbidden. I mean on most boards, questions about passwords will earn you an insta-ban, but a warning at a bare minimum, it you stumble across a moderator who's in a good mood. (Which btw, doesn't seem to happen often. They're like coppers, get a kick out of punishing people )
Try to do wipe.

I think you must of pissed them off with your stereotypical view of all moderators.
The question here is not how to circumvent the password. So I don't see a problem with it.
Entering your Google account may help.
If not WIPE / Factory reset should work. (reboot your phone and after powering on hold home button and after that go to Factory reset option and press home button)
Another way is to flash your ROM with new one.
Good luck.

No you will not lose data, just don't forget your password. My girlfriend did and ha ha ha yeah she lost everything after failing ten times.
But no I doubt it's faster from my experience I'm sure i had something running when I bench marked it before I encrypted it. Other then that it just shows how awesome it is even after encryption. I've done this to several phones and this one blows everything out of the water.

Yes, very much so. However the difference between kitkat and lollipop is that the operating system allows for fingerprint unlocking. With a passphrase backup of course.
I am not sure however if samsung encrypts your fingerprint data. I read an article that several phones including the s6 may be vulnerable stolen biodata because the fingerprint data wasn't encrypted. Don't quote me on it without extra research. This came up about the time defcon 23. So if you are worried about that stick with a passphrase.
However it's quick and easy with the fingerprint unlock and still dominates with benchmark while encrypted.
I encrypted my device. Normally when it boots it asks for the keyword. Today it not only did NOT ask for the keyword but booted straight to my home screen. It didnt even request my fingerprint. Very worrying.
I rebooted, still no keyword request but finger print was required.
Anyone else ever seen that?

I had the exact same thing happen, figured it was just me. I un-encrypted and re-encrypted and it is again asking for the password at boot. Not sure what happened but it isn't very reassuring.
It means it doesn't really work!

I've never had that happen. Could you have accidentally decrypted the phone? Does it still say it's encrypted?
TLDR; is there a way to bypass the mi unlock tool, cuz it ain't working for me. timer keeps getting reset. and no matter what i do, it keeps happening. also xiaomi support is absolutely useless
so i received my k20 pro about a month or more ago with the intention of putting on a custom rom.
from what i can tell, i've done everything right. i initially had 360 hours to unlock according to the tool. opened it again the next day to make sure the counter was going down. and it was fine.
but then i went back about a week later, and the countdown was at 380!!
did some digging and fiddling seems like perhaps i reset the account on the phone somehow or maybe the update to miui 11 reset it, i dunno, it certainly was NOT intentionally signed out.
so i made sure to do everything proper (which btw might be impossible bcuz all the guides are either broken chinese/english translations, or the ui/menus have changed, links to the english forums go nowhere): removed/re-enabled the mi account on the phone. dev mode. pair the account to the mi unlock status
380 hours.... check the next day.... looks good
that was about 6 days ago. so i went to double check the countdown again today.... back to 380!?!?!?!?
what the hell is going on? something reset again? now i legit cant even find the developer options menu. and the mi account thing. something reset developer mode. just had to go reactivate it
is there anyway to just bypass all this crap and unlock the bootloader, or something i am doing to cause this reset??? do i just have to leave the phone on the fastboot screen for 380 hours or something?
its been weeks with miui and i really want it gone, i dont want to start another 380 countdown to just go back a week later and have it reset
plz help, thanks

that was a post i made on reddit a few weeks ago. i've since had a timer in my calendar, to wait the allotted time. only to see the timer reset TWICE. it's about a total of 4 times that this timer reset has happened to me.
i have contacted xiaomi "support" during all these resets and they all send me some boiler plate message along the lines of:
"I would request you to follow the timer/ waiting period shown in Mi Unlock Tool to unlock successfully, you'll see this sentence "Couldn't unlock the device after XXXX hours" which means "Please unlock after XXX hours." There is some translation issue in Mi Unlock Tool. Also would like to inform you that after you've successfully bound your Mi Account, do not log out the approved Mi account from your phone. Otherwise, the timer will be reset and you gotta spend more time waiting again."
i've literally begged them to put me into contact with someone who can actually help. my last message literally said plz don't respond with a canned answer, and guess what, i got the same canned answer, yay.
edit: finally got it unlocked thanks for helping
Hey,
I once got a similar issue where my timer reset itself.
My problem was just to login with my Xiaomi account and tried unlocking once, after that I put the phone in the drawer back without using it very much. You have to use the phone actively to not get the timer resetet.
Try this:
1. activate phone with mi-account and install some apps from google
2. try unlocking with the tool
3. have a sim-card inserted every second / third day and/or always a wifi connection
4. use the phone a bit (I did it after work when coming home for 15 minutes)
Do not log out your mi-account, do not turn on flightmode, do not reset your phone during waiting
after that I had no reset and could unlock my phone with the latest mi unlock tool. I hope this will help you.

I almost did the same steps. I throw it in last corner and was charging it a bit, that's all. Didn't use it at all until the timer was over.
WiFi was activated the whole time and I removed the Sim after login into mi account and apply for unlock. Worked now 2 times this way.:good:

so you guys just used another phone while waiting for the unlock timer? i guess maybe i should just do that. my old phone was a huge POS, hence getting a new one. but maybe it'll be worth it. are we sure it doesnt need a sim card? wifi is good enough. cuz it explicitly says to use the phone data when linking the accounts
thanks guys

I need help identifying what app or setting got me into this mess.
I think the hacker has adb access.
He shuts down apps.. etc
He is messing with the notifications.. i get ony a few. Sometimes they come in late.
I have made reset from samsung setting and the boot menu, AND I INSTALLED A NEW ROM (the one for my phone) WITH ODIN. Still the issue resurfaces.
I think my roomate installed smthg in it. He is on the house wifi and he is got a degree in networking (i think thats what it's called, we study in french in my country)
Please i need help.
If someone needs any further details, please ask.
Avoid the wifi network you suspect your hacker friend is on, reinstall the rom downloaded on another network and stay on 4G and see if it still happens? Also suspect your PC to be hacked...
Thx for replying,
I did format my pc but i have connected it to house wifi.. didn't notice anything out of order though.
I found out about the "Revoke USB debugging authorisations" option in Developer Options. I think it is working.
Today, since i made a new instagram account, i added a mutual friend. Turns out it was an old and lost account, and thats when i got the error from the video.
Fortunately, i fixed it by un.following the account and clearing the app storage.
I need to know what access does he have?
Can't upload the video, here's some shots.
Look no further than yourself for the cause of this... one way or another.
RX: Factory reset, change Google account password.
Stop with the social media crap and go mingle with real people.
This not about social media, it's about getting my phone back.
With my old account, I couldn't even talk to my messenger friend. Today, thats like having your phone number unreachable all the time, frustrating.
Please if you don't want to help don't, but no need for quick unhelpful replies.

How was it compromised?
Understand if it was compromised it's more than likely because you left yourself vulnerable to attack.
A compromised OS needs to be cleaned or wiped... I gave you the solution(s).
No need to say thanks but don't give me lip about your screw ups.
Thank you.
I tried factory reset more than 10 times, different ways. No luck.

Reflash the firmware especially if it is Oreo or below.
If it's not embedded in the firmware, it's being added by you albeit inadvertently.
Your Achilles heel is social media... don't be so predictable. Break the link in the chain.
None of the social apps should be running on the device, they are malware. At least keep them in the cloud.
Email must always be kept in the cloud and any attachments downloaded from it scruntinized or preferably not downloaded at all. All downloads are suspect.
At this point your data base is suspect as well.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result.

Unless someone physically got their hands on it, there's no known way the Android 11 stock factory image can be compromised by a rootkit or virus. A factory reset is all that is needed.

How can i undo a modification of that level.

Never leave a phone physically unsecured as that's the only real security there is.
You need to have the firmware reflashed then be careful what you put back on it.
Change all your passwords and use secure passwords.
I ithink i this is the problem.( in the pic below)
There was an app called android device.. don't know if this is normal. So i deleted it and restarted and things are back to normal.
Sorry i can't upload the image, the app closes automatically.
Scan it online with Virustotal.

Believe me it's not just the password. She's installed some kind of parental Spyware like MSpy
If you're sure that's what she has done, and not just a bit paranoid, then you should be able to find it if you got into safe mode. At least I believe so.

I'm 100% convinced that's what she's done but I'm not that tech savvy when it comes to phones so I'm not sure which processes are part of the Android OS and which processes are the spy app.
Ditch gf.
Factory reset, will purge anything she loaded. The bootloader is locked so the only thing she could hack is the user data partition, a factory reset clears this.
Delete Google and Samsung accounts in settings>factory reset from settings not recovery menu>don't set up your Google account initially>change Google and Samsung account passwords on another computer (PC or Mac), write down passwords and make them complicated, setup the Google account on phone then.
It is clean. Be careful what you then load and who you give access to your phone if anyone.
I had a phone bought on eBay which I think it was cloned
It was the Xiaomi mi mix fold 2. I kept sending me messages please close the screen mirroring ect..I tried to reset it but nothing worked. Someone cracked the ROM in my opinion. eBay refunded me in full. I think you shall better buy a new phone
If you're paranoid:
reset your computer without a network connection.
reset your phone and don't connect to wifi yet.
reset your home wifi modem/router
connect your devices and use a strong password.
After this only a specialist can hack you.

No reason to replace the phone if it's a stock Samsung and it factory resets. As long as Knox isn't tripped it's still running with a stock rom and bootloader that haven't been altered and are still secure.

After reset it can't be accessed until account info is entered. My solution bypasses that entirely.
If he factory resets from recovery without first deleting Google and maybe Samsung accounts from the phone he may get locked out by FRP!
FPR is more wicked than any bad gf...
In Samsung's it's always best to factory reset from Settings rather than the boot menu. I redundantly make sure FRP won't be invoked by also deleting the accounts before the reset whenever possible*
*a boot loop or total system crash trashes this option, better hope the account password works...

They don't; most victims inadvertently install the malware themselves. Social media sites like WhatsApp, Tiktok etc are hunting grounds for hackers. Poor settings and app selection, clumsy browsing habits, side loading, unlocked bootloaders, no firewall in use, being careless what's downloaded, not keeping email in the cloud, allowing others physical access to the device, sharing drives, using unsecured wifi hotspots, not using Android 9 or higher... among others.
