Still issue with badge notification MIUI 12 - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

I'm running mad!
Badges appear only if I set "show all contents on lockscreen". WHY???
I do not want to let show messages on lockscreen but I PRETEND to see badge notification on app.
Why MIUI 12 doesn't work in this way???
Please, is there any solution to show badge notificatinon???
Thanks

[Q] Cyanogen message notification count

Hi chaps, I'm using Cyanogen 7 (and also MildWild which is based on CM and has same issue) and what I'm wanting to know is how do I turn on the text message notification counter? What I mean is that on receiving a text I get an icon in the status bar but what I really want is for the text message icon on screen to have a count of unread SMS's. Currently there is no counter and the icon in the status bar stays the same whether it's 1 or 10 unread text message. Is there any way to do this and if so, where is the setting for it? Thanks.
No setting for it. You can get an app for the message counter on the Play store. Or use another messaging app.
Oh that's a shame because I love everything else about both of these rom's. I love 'Sense' but it was just too 'laggy' for my likings hence the switch. Oh well I'll take a look around the store and see if I can find such an app, cheers.
I hear that handcent is a good messaging app.

[Q] MMS/Picture preview in Notification Bar

Hi all,
I have a non rooted AT&T Note II 4.1.2 build JZ054K.I317UCMA4
I don't know why or how, I was able to get a preview in the notification bar of the picture in the MMS I received. it didn't last very long doing that for me though. And now, I only get an "images" or "slide show" displayed in the notification bar next to the contact name. I do still get previews of an SMS in the notification bar along with the contact name and a picture of the contact. Any ideas or similar experiences? Does your phone display a preview of the picture in an mms in the notification bar?
I did further testing and figured it out. If you enable Blocking Mode in Settings the notification bar will be limited. Thus, disabling the ability in the notification bar to archive, reply with Gmail as well as MMS will now longer show a preview of the image attached.

[Q] Zooper Unread count

So i recently had to restore my phone and had to start over on my theming. I used to use Zooper and something called "Counts" on my lockscreen. The lockscreen would be blank but when i got a text message.. it would appear as "1 Text". How can i achieve this again? I cant find how to do it. I have Zooper pro.
This is what its supposed to do: http://cdn.appcrawlr.com/imageServi...XZrMDMtY3Nycy1kSnMtNER2OWc9aDY0MA?w=340&h=280
EDIT: OK.. so I figured out how to display the unread counts. How can I set it so that the counts disappear if there is 0? I don't want the widgets to say "Texts: 0" I want it to be blank untill I get a text. I had it this was but can't figure out how to do it again.

Hi, here is a Zooper Pro tutorial, how to make notification badges with counter, what only shows when you really have missed notifications (phone, sms, gmail). Do not show zero value if there is no notification.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ct1XLpffRp4
And here is the full theme, if you would like to download and use. http://mycolorscreen.com/2014/07/10/music-lover-2/

Gmail badge with numeric notifications count

Late to the party and just got a Mate 20x! Am currently running EMUI 9.0.0.208 in case there's still stability problems with 9.1.
Just about everything is working except numeric notifications of unread Gmail messages on the homescreen Gmail icon badge. Gmail doesn't appear in settings->notifications->app icon badges or settings->notifications (badge management). I've tried to make sure everything relevant was enabled in settings->apps->apps->gmail->notifications management and in the Gmail app itself.
Gmail emails are being pushed to the phone, and notifications appear immediately on the lock screen and the top notifications bar so the problem just seems to be displaying the unread emails count on the Gmail icon badge.
I understand that the Gmail icon badge displaying numeric notifications is not supported by EMUI but Nova Launcher (non-Prime) and MIcrosoft Launcher didn't seem to make any difference to the Gmail icon badge unless I've missed a setup option.
Can I have some feedback on what launchers are able to enable (unread emails) numeric notifications on the Gmail badge in a Mate 20x?
Many thanks!
John
Hi John,
From what I've read, there are 2 Methods:
1. Method 1: Stock Launcher
- Pinch on the home screen to edit > tap settings > Badge app icons > Badge display mode > Unread messages. (Source)
2. Method 2: Nova Launcher/3rd Party App
- Instal Nova Launcher or Notifyer app (Source)

Thanks! But I've already set the Badge display mode to Unread messages (unfortunately Gmail is not listed underneath among the supported apps).
Have also tried Nova Launcher (non-Prime) and Microsoft Launcher. Can you confirm these actually enabled numeric notifications on the Gmail icon badge on a Mate 20x? Perhaps I missed a setting ...

Thanks!!! Notifyer looks great but recent reviews on the Play Store don't inspire confidence ...
Guess Notifyer will need gmail credentials of all my accounts, or can it work on the system level on the phone to read the notification count? Would rather not give yet another app my gmail credentials.

Thanks! Think Tesla Unread isn't available on the Play Store anymore, not sure whether the apk on Tesla Coil apps' website is compatible with the latest Nova Launcher (Prime) ...?

Unfortunately I've removed Gmail app and instead using Outlook for Android. The Native Nova Unread Badge is working well for the app under this setting.

According to Source 1 & Source 2, TeslaUnread required permissions which violated the terms of Google Play Store, that's why it was removed. Google also required third party launchers to have their own unread badges and that's why Nova included one in their later builds.
You can still download the Tesla Unread apk from the official site here.
I bought and installed Nova Launcher Price but unread counts didn't appear for Gmail. I thought the new version of Nova Prime didn't need Tesla Unread ...
When I installed and setup Tesla Unread from your linked apk, finally, after this long odyssey, I saw unread email counts on Gmail! Many thanks for all your help!!!
Still worried that Gmail notifications don't appear as fast on the Mate 20x as an old Samsung S7 I'm comparing it against, but shall keep testing.
I made sure Gmail has full (manual) permissions under settings->battery-> battery usage->gmail->app launch on the Mate 20x. Hope Gmail has continuous access to wifi or mobile data even when the phone is sleeping. Not sure whether I've missed a setting for this as couldn't find anything under settings->wireless & networks->wifi (settings)
Immediate push gmail notifications when a phone is sleeping, unread emails count management from multiple gmail accounts and a big screen are the most important features in a phone for me! Hopefully the Mate 20x will (eventually) tick all the boxes!

Many thanks!!! When I setup Gmail, Nova Launcher and Nova Launcher Prime in settings->battery->app launch to 'manage manually' with everything enabled, the Mate 20x is faster getting email notifications than my old Samsung S7. Not sure whether all of this was needed but notifications were slower before when both the phones were sleeping.
Thanks for the screenshot. I don't have a "M" gmail notification in the top notifications area but a "2" (one email double counted). I noticed that emails were consistently double counted (one new email in gmail but the unread gmail iconbadge and notifications area says 2). In Nova settings -> notification badges -> Choose a style I switched from 'Numeric Dots' to 'TeslaUnread' and the double counting on the gmail icon badge stopped. The top notifications area still seems to be double counting but it's not the end of the world ...

Huawei is known for its' very aggressive battery management; That's why vs. Samsung for the same battery capacity, Huawei always wins because it puts most of its' apps to sleep if it's in the background. There are 3 settings to alter to fully keep an app alive in the background:
1. App Launch
Settings - Battery - App Launch - Manage Manually
2. Battery Optimisation
Settings - Apps - Apps - Special Access (Top Right) - Battery Optimisation - Set to "Don't Allow"
3. Lock App in Recent
Go to Recent Apps - Swipe down to Lock App (Lock Icon)

Wow! Thanks a lot! I hadn't done steps 2 and 3 for Gmail. Hopefully notifications speed will dramatically improve as it still was lagging when the Mate 20x is sleeping. Thanks again for the very detailed instructions. I'm sure many others will also benefit. Shall keep testing!

Many thanks for all your help. Think Gmail notifications are now appearing instantly on my Mate 20x.
I noticed that Nova Launcher has the highest battery usage among software apps on my Mate 20x (settings->battery->'battery usage'). Do you think I need to have Nova Launcher maxed out on the following settings or can get away with less?
1. Settings - Battery - App Launch - Manage Manually
2. Settings - Apps - Apps - Special Access (Top Right) - Battery Optimisation - Set to "Don't Allow"
Battery usage it's too much of an issue on the Mate 20x but every little optimisation helps in the long run. Thanks!

You can try to restore both to default and see how it goes. It shouldn't cause any issues as you're using the launcher constantly so the system will adjust accordingly.

Tesla Unread Is Dead. Any Alternatives?

Hi All,
I'm using Nova Launcher 6 and Tesla Unread for years. The only thing that prevents me from updating to Nova 7 is the lack of Tesla Unread.
Is there an alternative to this addon?
Any update on this?
I'm not sure what you mean, tesla unread is obsolete we now have all the function built in Nova and Android. Enable notifcation access for Nova and select what kind dot, number customize color etc in Nova options. In order to select which apps use it and which dont you use android app notifcation settings individually and de-select use of the badge.

It is not the same functionality. As soon as you swipe the botifi ation away the unread count vanishes. Tesla unread always had a badge on the app icon with a count it never counted on the notifications.

I think that's the normal function, its an un-read count notifier, so it should go away once you've read or swiped away the notification, why would you want the number to stay, or am i misunderstanding?

But it's not how the old function worked. Previously TelsaUnread didn't rely on notifications for unread counts, ie. I don't want a notification for every work email I get, but I like the number showing on the icon.
To this day I am still using Tesla Unread and Nova6 for my unread message counter (for whastapp, gmail, etc.), is there no new solution?
The "notifications" counter doesn't work for me, since I have them disabled. I am not interested in a notification for each WhatsApp or for each email that arrives, which are dozens.... I want to know how many pending messages I have.
I don't understand this operation of android...
