Hi. I have unlocked several devices before and only this phone is getting on my nerves. I have followed every steps exatcly as on forums to unlock my bootloader. On adb it says "Done. Phone will restart now". After this the phone reboots back to fastboot and "Oem locked" status is still there (Phone gets wiped after this process). I have tried to install twrp but it just wont due to locked bootloader. In adb it says "Preflash validation failed" and on device bootloader logs it says "Recovery size misatch". What can I do to force unlock its bootloader?
Fyi: I have tried updating android versions (Noughat to Oreo) and several Twrp versions yet it wouldn't work

Try this TWRP: http://cedric.nift4.tk/twrp
Your device does not seem to be still locked.
Edit: If that still fails, send screenshots from the device & PC

That link redirects me to TWRP official site from where I got them in the first place. I forgot to mention that I updated android versions only after tried unlocking it. Now if bootloader was unlocked I wouldn't have been able to Install system updates am I right? Here I tried installing TWRP again for screenshots only. Thanks in advance

I gave you that link because there are many unofficial ones around. Also, only try the latest official one now. But it seems like your bootloader is still locked. Is your G5 the Amazon version? That cannot be unlocked.

Your device is oem locked
Open settings
Goto about phone (or system then about phone)
Tap on build number until it says you're a developer
Go back to settings screen and then select the new available developer options menu
Make sure you have enabled allow oem unlock (if available)
Also enable USB debugging
When it comes to unlock string make sure you copy and paste it into a text document and then remove all the line breaks so the string is on one long continuous line
Follow the steps on the Motorola unlock website to get your unlock code - scroll to the bottom and click next and sign into your Motorola account

We don't have amazon here. I bought it from local seller. I don't know if he got it from amazon though. Is there any way to know for sure?

Software channel is "reteu" on mine. I can't screencast right now but I can assure you that there's no error message anywhere while unlocking. On cmd it says Done. On phone it just restarts back to bootloader. No new logs are there. And there should be an error message after unlocking right? Well that doesn't appear as well.

As long as it's entered correctly it should unlock
Apart from trying a different USB cable, not using any USB hubs or trying it on a different pc there's nothing else I can suggest as that is the unlock code from Motorola for the device unlock data
You could try flashing different firmware and then trying to unlock it

Very strange!
Could have some reasons:
1. Are you sure, you entered the correct 14 digits of your IMEI, when you asked for your unlock key on Sony?
Normally, the IMEI has 15 digist, but you have to leave the last one away.
Did you do so?!
2. The command fastboot oem unlock KEY has to be entered following the right folder structure.
So try the following: Open your Explorer. Go to the folder of your "minimal adb" installation.
Let's suppose you installed in on the partition E: into the folder Minimal ADB and Fastboot.
By the way: You didn't mentioned which system you're running. And it's harder then to give correct instructions.
On Vista, right click on that folder and choose "Open Command Prompt Here";
on other Windows versions it should be similar to this.
Now, the commander opens and should say something like: E:\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>.
And then write adb devices. Wait for the output.
If you get your device listed there, you did it right.
If not, you made something wrong.
If this shouldn't work again, please, be so kind to give us a detailed overview of all the steps you exactly did.
Good luck!
Try to get another unlock key from sony.
When I unlocked my bootloader I didn't use the unlock key for a week and when I finaly had time to do it I received the same error, so I went back to sony website and requested a new unlock key. It worked like a charm.

Hi there,
I must try here, and ask.... If you could help me with unlocking my bootloader.
I tried various "no boot needed" rom-s and nothing worked ! Whoever I try to ask, nobody is saying anything useful.
My t-mobile (phone is locked, only for theirs sim cards) is saying that's locked by sony, local service guy is saying something different and I don't know which side could I believe !
I would like to change that "bootloader unlock allowed:no" to yes
and after that- install ultimate hd rom. So I would ,kindly, like you to point me (what) and how should I unlock my boot loader. (I believe, there are ways and it could be done)
Big thanks and best wishes !
Željko :good:
Hi Željko!
As far as I know, the information in your device Bootloader Unlock Allowed has to be positive, i. e., saying Yes!
Otherwise you can't unlock your bootloader for free and have to choose a paid unlock.
Sorry for not having better news for you! =/
that's positive
positive that it can be unlocked.. either way, it's going to be cheaper than new mobile phone
The best I was hoping is some homemade method, but... this is ok
another question !
When I contacted that local servicer, he said that some bootloaders can and some can't be unlocked (on lt18i), would you know why or is that true ?!
and, btw, I asked for price... he said, if unlocking is successful he's going to charge me around 20usd (just for reference)
Thanks

You need to be in download mode for the instructions to work.
There is a video of the procedure:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R6iZ3GtVnQ
Good luck!
That's my actual problem
The procedure shown in the video is made for devices that already have bootloader unlocked, but mine isn't, and the reason is step 2 shown in htcdev.com:
I don't have any fastboot option to highlight.
Also, when typing the "fastboot" command in terminal, I get the "unknown command" message.

What did I miss?
Also, I was following the steps in the video without reading, and accepted that TWRP root my phone, despite the code saying not to. Maybe that's the problem?
Installed TWRP 2.8.5.0 and SuperSU 2.76
I've already managed to unlock bootloader, because it says: System modified, *unlocked*, s-on
U are already unlocked.
Now, restore a backup, if u did one in TWRP.
If not, try installing a custom ROM, ARHD or Maximus are closest to stock.

Hello,
I'm planning to buy this device, specifically the XT1684 or XT1685 variant. Are these specfic variants supported and are there any culprits I should be aware of? For example, is there a possibility of me being locked out like with LG's G/V series devices? Or is the bootloader unlock procedure completely smooth?
thanks for the guide. I have just unlocked it.

Hi,
I want to enable dualsim on my singlesim device and for that the TWRP has to be installed. After checking many threads, which less or more describe the same steps, I managed to unlock the bootloader and downloaded an "unofficial" twrp image for the Moto Z Play. But on the last step while trying to flash it I got the error "Image not signed or corrupt" and the image is not installed. Here is the output by flashing:
Code:
D:\Programs\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot.exe flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-addison.img
(bootloader) slot-count: not found
(bootloader) slot-suffixes: not found
(bootloader) slot-suffixes: not found
(bootloader) has-slot:recovery: not found
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'recovery' (11374 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.255s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) Image not signed or corrupt
OKAY [ 0.246s]

Is there a way to avoid this error ?
Use: "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" no quotes. I change the filename to just "twrp.img" less chance of typing something wrong.
and no the .exe you did.

I think it is flashed. After flashing the twrp via fastboot and u see that error then just ignore it, instead directly boot your phone in recovery mode using the volume buttons and look for the word "recovery" then press on power button then it booted there.

Just to be sure, the image should be copied within the "ADB/Fastboot" folder on my PC and not on the device storage/SD card, isn't it ?

Yes, I did unlock it with the unlock key received from motorola:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock UNLOCK_KEY
After that a message is displayed at each start:
your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted
ID: bad key
your device will boot in 5 seconds

After flashing twrp do not boot the phone otherwise the stock recovery will over write twrp,
After twrp is flashed while still in fastboot mode, use the volume buttons and select recovery on the menu.

This is not an error. If your bootloader is unlocked this message will display at every boot.

As Fandroid mentioned, it's not an error. My device also diplays it at startup.
I've added to this post a zip file that contains adb, fastboot and twrp version used to configure my device.

I wanted twrp just to create a backup and configure my device to support dualsim. Therefore and as mentioned in a previous post, TWRP is installed only momentarly and after a reboot it would be overwritten.
My OS is the Moto Android 7.0.
What is the issue that you have now ?

As I told earlier I am not able to install twrp due to which I am not able to install custom rom. I tried many times to install twrp, everytime it showed "image is not found" as you guys said I tried going recovery but again it shows you already unlocked boot loader, your device can't be trusted then says " your device will reboot in 5 seconds" this is what my issue is.

It makes no sense then to flash it. Why don't you just use
fastboot boot twrp.img
when you want to start it? Then no flash will be involved, and twrp will be just booted for this single usage. You can repeat this whenever you need it.
Guide updated!!!!!
If you wanna get back to stock ROM and relock bootloader + get OTAs working again, this is the right place!
DISCLAIMER: Relocking bootloader erases all your data/internal storage and (off course) remove TWRP/modules/root, so do a backup of all your data first. Also, I'm not responsible for any bricked devices (phones, SD Cards, etc). I tested it in my XT1955-1 and it worked fine, but we all know that errors might occur.
Finally, let's go to the steps.
Step 1 - Downloading necessary files
Download Android Platform Tools here and then extract it.
Install Motorola Drivers on your PC (download here).
Download the lastest firmware according to your variant/software channel here and extract it in the same folder you had extracted Android Platform Tools.
Download the "Lock Script" here, according to your android version and PC's OS.
For example: if your PC uses Windows as OS, and your phone is in android 10, download the "Lock-10q_windows.bat" file.
Or if you have a Linux distro on your PC and android 9 on your phone, download "Lock-9pie_linux.sh" file.
Place the file inside the platform-tools folder, where the ROM was extracted too.
Step 2 - Preparing your phone
Remove all your google account in device's settings and then go to Developer Options. Enable Android debugging and OEM unlocking (if you can't enable OEM unlocking, you may need to root your device first to get it avaible again (see Rooting thread)).
Power off your phone and put it fastboot mode. Connect it on PC using USB cable.
Step 3 - Installing Stock ROM and re-locking bootloader
Just double click on the Lock.bat/.sh file and it will reflash stock ROM and lock bootloader. Now all you have to do is wait till it finishes. This should take a few minutes to be done.
The phone will boot automatically after the last command is executed.
It seems to be a little hard, but it's easy. If you have any questions, let me know, I'll try to answer ASAP.
Very nice, it's really working! Thanks!

Yes, should work fine. Afaik, once you unlock your bootloader, your warranty is avoid, theoretically. But I guess you can send it to service center (if it's needed) with no problems. They don't always check if you have unlocked your bootloader or not.
Warning: Due to some changes in bootloader and people getting hard bricks in February security patch, i don't recommend to relock bootloader in that version, do it in December security patch instead!
Hello guys. I have Motorola Moto G7 Power (XT1955-4). I've tried to put in twrp and a rom, but when I rebooted my device it don't power on anymore. So I've searched many guides to repair. I've used "blankflash" and after many times I was finally power on my device and go in Fastboot Mode. But now there's another problem. When I connect with usb and open CMD and type "adb devices" appear:
LIST OF DEVICES ATTACHED
or
WAITING FOR DEVICES
I tried many things to fix it but nothing work. Now I've uninstalled everything on my pc, drivers too.
Maybe I've installed bad "blankflash"???
How can I fix my troubles?

If you're already in stock ROM with no modules and stuff installed on it, just skip this and jump to the next step. If you're not, then stay here.
Open CMD (command prompt) in the same folder you had extracted firmware and android platform tools.
Shift+right click and then "Open command window here" or just type CMD in the folder path bar at the top in windows explorer. Run this commands all at once in CMD:
Once it is done, DON'T power on your phone, just leave it as it is and let's go to the last step.
Step 4 - Relocking Bootoader
In cmd, run this commands all at once
Done! The phone will boot automatically after the last command is executed.
It seems to be a little hard, but it's easy. If you have any questions, let me know, I'll try to answer ASAP.

"run these commands all at once" = copy all the commands and execute them in cmd...
And which android version did you install? because the commands to flash android 10 are different than android 9 ones

I removed those annoying commands and put a link to download Scripts that already do everything automatically. Now the guide is simpler and easier
