Hi everyone , I have a Redmi Note 8 (codename ginkgo) that I've bought from Shopee(with proof if you want), and when I turned on the phone , I've found out that the seller who sell me this phone had installed a VPN software , and the VPN settings set as "always connected" , first I don't know why it needs to always to connect to the VPN , so I turned the VPN off , and after about 10 seconds , my screen turned into "This device is locked" YES it's the Mi account Lock after the factory reset , I don't know why the account exist , so I asked the seller BUT he didn't give me the password of the account (I'm still asking him).So, my screen locked in the Mi account verify . But I've found a way to open the VPN again (Hard reboot and quickly unlock the phone , go to settings and turn on "always connect to VPN") . The seller give me a way to login to my Mi account (use wechat to login , this way I can login to my Mi account) So I think this way my Mi account is already on the device , I tried to turn off the VPN again , and NOPE , the Mi account verification screen pops up again (So I turned off my device again and turned on the VPN) And after I turned on my device , I noticed MY Mi account was kicked on this device . I really want to login to my Mi account and unlock the bootloader to flash this device to Global ROM (Or RevOS) to get a better user experience (I don't like China ROM because it's too closed of its customization and also , too many Chinese apps)
I want to ask is: Is there anyway to "remove" the previous Mi account on the device and login mine? ( I've seen many videos on YouTube that teaches you to "Bypass"the account , but I want is to "Remove"It)
You can give me any advice , I will try it , thanks to your reply

Nope , but I want to
That's really a problem, you have to know the password from that MI account, the seller for some reason placed his MI account.
VPN has nothing to do with it from my experience.
It simply happened when the seller logged off all the devices from that account, he was probably logged on to multiple devices with the same account. The reason for this is often just unlocking the bootloader to install some of his ROM and simply sell it.
The solution is to remove that MI account that's why you need a password.
Try something like this:

Maybe it really helps!

Just return that phone if possible if not then go and report to mi authorised service center, they will file a case againt the seller
maybe it's a stolen device so plz report to the authorities,
can you factory reset your device when connected with VPN method, if you factory reset, all accounts will also deleted so you can setup a new one

What is this How-to for:
In our Telegram-group, I've seen quite some questions on what to do to unlock a Redmi 5 Plus.
There are a few different states a phone can be in when you receive it, such as 'Fake' roms, China stable, China DEV and so on. Below we'll try and make sense of it al and explain what is the best way of getting about unlocking your phone.
Update: With the release of the global Development rom, some people have successfully unlocked their device without having to perform the testpoint method. The rom can be found here:
http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.3.15/miui_HM5PlusGlobal_8.3.15_e69c117bf5_7.1.zip
After installing global development, please start unlocking by beginning at step 1 below, but skipping step 2!
Step 1: (needed for everyone who wants to unlock their phone, regardless):
1: Goto: http://en.miui.com/unlock/ and follow the steps there to apply for unlocking:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This requires creating a MIUI forum account and entering a mobile number on which you will receive your approval. This number does NOT need to be the number you are going to use on your Redmi 5 Plus. As long as you create a MI account and hang on to that, you're good.
Getting the approval might take a while. The best way to check if your approval has been passed is to regularly revisit http://en.miui.com/unlock/ (while logged in with your forum account) until the page changes on opening to one that allows you to download the unlock client app:
This is it for this part for now.
Step 2: Knowing what ROM you are on and taking the steps to get to the right one if needed:
Basically, the following 'states' are possible:
China Stable Rom
Official Global Stable
'Fake' Global, locked bootloader
'Fake' Global, Unlocked bootloader; If you are part of these happy few, go directly to step 4.
For the first 3 options you will need to flash to the China dev rom: Which can be found here: http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.2.1/vince_images_8.2.1_20180201.0000.00_7.1_cn_bd9ee1a88a.tgz
This needs to be done via the so called 'Test point method', and it is the only way to do it (as of now).
Information on how to do this you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVG3Ip6UPGE.
After this, you are ready for the next step.
Step 3: Binding account and unlocking:
Note: If you have problems binding your account on step 1, use PlexVPN, setting the connection to a China location, or use the attached APK vpn service (in.invpn_2017-08-15.apk).
1: After you’ve applied and received unlock permission from MIUI you can use the account to sign into your Mi-Account on your phone.
First though, we need to establish if you need to do additional steps, so hold on to this for now.
2: Enable “Developer options” on your device by tapping few times on MIUI version.
3: Go to “Developer options” and enable “OEM Unlocking”, then go to “Mi Unlock Status” and tap on “Add account and device”.
4: Download and install the latest version of MiFlashUnlock from this page and install it on your pc (unlocking with MiUnlock 1.x version won’t work).
5. Install MiFlashUnlock, open it and press “Agree” button, sign into your Mi-account.
6: Turn off your phone completely and start it in fastboot mode. Press “Power” and “Volume Down” buttons at the same time until fastboot logo appear on the screen.
Connect your phone to PC in fastboot mode and press “Unlock” button.
7: And now this is where it gets a bit silly. You most likely will be confronted with a wait time between 72 and 360 hours. There is currently no way around this and you have to sit it out.
Once the time has passed, you can unlock your phone and are ready to flash TWRP and be a happy camper.
EDIT: There is a way around the 360 hour wait. Check this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ageos-15-1-t3780298/post76304194#post76304194
Step 4: Flash TWRP
See this topic on how to do this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/-t3727162.

Should the phone used to receive the unlock SMS be the same as the one on the device being unlocked?
I have tried my phone number but I didn't receive an SMS, so I had to use a U.S number and successfully got it.

i know test point flashing chinese dev rom and later adding account with VPN will work....but its my girlfriends phone. she will freak out if i tear it apart.
has anyone found any other soulution for this problem ?
370 hrs...
We must really waiting for ?
Yeah no way around it, the annoying part is that I already had a Xiaomi account that I used for unlocking other phones but apparently now you can't log in with a phone number anymore so the account is lost. See y'all in 2 weeks.
And china stable doesn't allow to unlock, neither?
I thought the problem was only in global roms...
I have just got a Redmi Note 5A Prime and want to unlock the bootloader. I've applied for and received unlock permission from Xiaomi but when I run the unlock tool it tells me that my account is not bound to the phone. It tells me I need to add the account in the Mi Unlock Status section of the dev settings but according to this, the phone is not locked and there is no option to add a device so there is no way for me to bind the device and account.

The bootloader is definitely locked as confirmed by fastboot oem device-info.
I have read multiple threads on the MIUI forums about unlocking the bootloader but the information is very conflicting with much of it contradicting other info and none of it seeming to help me. Some says you can only unlock the bootloader when a certain ROM is installed, others say they have unlocked the bootloader using different ROMs - I've got MIUI Global 9.2 Stable 9.2.1.0.0. Some says you have to wait for days between receiving the permission and the unlock process working, others saying it worked for them immediately. Some say after months they still can't unlock.
If I log into my Mi account it shows that my phone is registered, if I use the 'find my device' option it correctly locates it so it 'seems' that the phone is correctly linked to my account and so I'm struggling to figure out how I get past this issue and unlock the bootloader.
Is there anybody out there who has successfully unlocked their bootloader who can provide any insight?
I have the same problem, and now the xiaomi software says me to wait 360 hours, wich is stupid....

For unlocking you need to bound your device to your account in the developer settings (it is not an standard option so it needs to be activated in the about device section, Google it). If still you can't then you go to mi account and logoff and login again. That worked for me. Now I'm in the 360 hrs period wait though.
The problem was caused by having a fake ROM installed. I had to flash the stable Chinese ROM using the testpoints method and then I was able to bind the account etc. The phone has now been unlocked and flashed with the official global ROM for a few weeks and is receiving OTA updates etc so all good in the end.

How can the phone come with fake rom preinstalled. I have heard lot about xiaomi phones coming with fake rom installed . How can a company ship phones with fake rom. I have redmi 5A phone and the phone is not getting unlocked the error on phone is 86012 error and on pc mi flash unlock tool the error is current account cannot unlock the device.
It didn't come from Xiaomi directly. The phones are primarily made for the Chinese market so ship with a Chinese ROM by default from Xiaomi. The resellers who then want to sell to a global market put the fake ROMs on to the phones due to the way Xiaomi controls the bootloader unlock process. Personally, now I know the situation and how to rectify it I would happily buy another Xiaomi phone even if it had a fake ROM.

Hi people, I has been using This phone for almost 20 days and didn't find a tutorial of how to remove most bloatware for Lavender safely and without rooting, here it goes:
1. We need to download two tools, the first one is Xiaomi ADB Fastboot Tools from Github.com/Saki-EU/XiaomiADBFastbootTools (Link at bottom). And the second one are the correct drivers for our phone provided in the same Github page.
2. Instructions: (Taken from Saki-EU Github)
Connecting a device in ADB mode
-Enable developer options in Android.
MIUI: Go to Settings > About device and tap ‘MIUI version’ seven times to enable developer options.
Android One: Go to Settings > System > About device and tap ‘Build number’ seven times to enable developer options.
-Enable USB debugging in Android.
MIUI: Go to Settings > Additional settings > Developer options and enable USB debugging as well as USB debugging (Security settings).
Android One: Go to Settings > System > Developer options and enable USB debugging.
-Connect your device to the computer and launch the application. The device is going to ask for authorisation, which you'll have to allow.
-Wait for the application to detect your device. The device info should appear in the top left section.
3. In the aplication you will see the safe to remove system apps, I delete most of them and everything works fine, no bootloop or soft bootloop, I highly recomend to deactivate al MI apps and account, MI device find and MI cloud services.
NOTE:
After downloading the usb drivers provided by Saki-EU, connect your phone, execute the tool, a window will appear, if your phone shows below you are ok to intall the driver.
4. My Debloat:
-No Debloated

Tool Updated. Now is in 6.8.1 compatible with MIUI 11.0.4

Done this 3 days after getting the phone. Much nicer without all the MI apps and some of the Google apps.
I hope you are talking about this tool
I've debloated everything possible (since only apps that don't brick your device are enumerated anyway) -> installed Google apps. Works pretty well ^^
is it safe to remove find my device? in the pocophone thread someone said you can get bootloop

The Xiaomi ADB Fastboot Tool from Saki-EU list the safe to remove system apps, you can delete the listed apps but is highly recomended to disable all the MI cloud based services before, included the MI account and MI find my device. :good:
When I can delete most of unnecessary stuff using SAKI, I really feel no need to root my phone or install unofficial custom roms. It's already blazing fast with long battery life, plus fast enough battery charging with Q3 charger. I don't see enough benefit for taking a risk of putting my phone in less secure state.

My list of deleted apps/services:
Analytics
Backup
Browser
Facebook
Feedback
Games
Gmail
Google Duo
Google Photos
Google Play movies
Google play music
Joyose
Mi App store
Mi Cloud
Mi Credit
Mi Drop
Mi Pay
Mi Recycle
Miui Daemon
MiWebView
MSA
News
Notes
PAI
PartnerNetflixActivation
Quick Apps
Quick Ball
Translation Service
Uniplay Service
VsimCore
Yellow Pages
YouTube
My phone is running without any problem without above apps/services. I also want to delete below, but would like to know what they are used for, does anybody know?
HybridAccessory
SMS Extra
PartnerBookmarks
Xiaomi Service Framework
Xiaomi SIM Activate Service

This is what i know:
HybridAccesory: Perhaps is the one that makes posible the use of Micro SD in the first SIM slot, really not sure.
SMS Extra: Free sms service provided by Xiaomi using just Xiaomi devices, dont know if works outside China.
Partner Bookmarks: Never missed that
Xiaomi Service Framework: Big bloatware that makes connection to Xiaomi servers for ads and user information.
Xiaomi SIM Activation Service: Not related to actual SIM card use, maybe for collecting data.
Thank you, but what do you mean by "Partner Bookmarks: Never missed that"? Always debloat you mean?
I actually got rid off all those as well. Seem to be fine. Saki mentions all the listed uninstallable apps/services in his program are safe to remove. So I just removed those 5 as well. More free RAM now ? I just hope I won't miss MIUI OTA by removing any of them.
would debloating make miui use less ram?
title sums it all up. I'd really wanna know coz I'm considering debloating my device.
i had a funny nightmare last night where my note 7 was blaring out 7000 notifications a day about various "issues" with my device, and i couldn't even read texts because they just kept spamming me with meaningless fluff notifications. so i tried to install lineage on it.
...i miss my oneplus.
today i decided to check if official lineage was available yet, but this looks like it'll be fine for a while.
Defenitely!

See the title
2.3GB RAM available when I don't have anything open, I've debloated all the apps listed in earlier post, plus I have other extra apps installed (mail client, whatsap, games, etc).
Thanks! I only debloated some apps like: Mi Music, Play Music, Play Videos, Mi Videos, and MSA.
Still using some of Mi Apps and Google tho.
Saki's program newer version released. I noticed he adds more uninstallable apps in every new versions. Latest is 6.3.2

Yup, thanks for the info.
:good:
Just one question though.
Let say I have debloat my device, and then one day an update arrive.
Can I update the OS without any issues, even if all of the bloated system apps have been uninstalled?

The tool provided by Saki-EU deletes the known safe to remove apps, but just for the user, them keeps in system, at date there has not been any problem with updates.

RESOLVED IN POST#12
This is the following message I get when I try to unlock my phone
yes, I have done the necessary steps like usb debugging, oem unlocking and adding the Mi account using cellular, yet for some reason I keep getting this error.
I have tried the original cable, a third party one, an amd machine, an intel machine, old and latest versions (at the time of writing) of mi unlock tool, and of course I have the drivers (or else deice won't recognize in the first place.
I have debloated my phone but not to the extreme using adb tools as to not interfere with the Mi services, I only just got rid of things like pubg and other apps you can delete from the phone itself (with the exception of youtube, I used adb to remove it to replace it with ReVanced).
I have been trying this for days, and I get this exact same error regardless, even after adding my mi account in dev options so many times! Can anyone else fiure out what it could be?
I have posted the logs
Try to:
1.- log out for account from phone
2.- log in again and check the permissions,
3.- go to Xiaomi cloud and click find device
4.- return to unlock status and unlock again
or factory reset
or create a new account
Prefer an email address to log in
Unlock bootloader
Xiaomi Community
new.c.mi.com
Apply for unlocking Mi devices
en.miui.com
Unlocking bootloader will factory reset phone anyways.
I'd do it before and try to unlock right after without doing any debugging in between.

mind if you elaborate on what "check the permissions" means? I will try that though, thank you
Ignore it, what is important, the location, also check the security of the account, emergency email.
These are the Xiaomi unlock bootloader steps from the lineageos website
Create a Mi account on Xiaomi’s website. Beware that one account is only allowed to unlock one unique device every 30 days.
Add a phone number to your Mi account.
Insert a SIM into your phone.
Enable developer options in Settings > About Phone by repeatedly tapping MIUI Version.
Link the device to your Mi account in Settings > Additional settings > Developer options > Mi Unlock status.
Download the Mi Unlock app (Windows is required to run the app).
Run the Mi Unlock app and follow the instructions provided by the app. It may tell you that you have to wait up to 30 days. If it does so, please wait the quoted amount of time before continuing to the next step!
After device and Mi account are successfully verified, the bootloader should be unlocked.

alright, well it says my region is in the UK (even though I am not?) and I definitely did not use a vpn
I think I might try to make a new account altogether somehow, however I did use it to unlock my X3 pro all the way in 2021

it appears so, prior to this post I did the factory reset, and signing in and out of my account using email and turning on mi cloud (and turning off find my device) didn't seem to work

Maybe you deleted an essential app with ADB.
Try to download the package via the updater to reinstall the rom.

regardless I will give that a shot as well
I had already made a new account so I tried it, and finally it worked
thanks guys, guess I'll come back in a week with a sick custom rom

This is good news.
Did you use a different sim/phone number when making a new account?
I've also been having similar issues on my thread

surprisingly I didn't
to elaborate, I removed/sign out the account from my device, deleted the account from their site, made a new one (with a different email to be safe, and a wildly different name) and kept the same phone number for my convenience
and it somehow just worked, so yeah give it a shot man

What do you mean deleted the account from their site?
Like fully delete my account and all the data? because I have like 10 years of data synced :/
and what's super weird is that I used my old account to unlock a poco X3 pro back in 2021 but it didn't work now in 2023
but a new account with the same phone did work
I must add that when I made the new account I DID NOT ADD THE NUMBER IMMEDIATELY
I added the number when it asked me to, when adding the device to the mi account before going to fastboot
Hi all, I am new to rooting and don't know nothing about root, I want to root my device and don't want to install custom roms, I just want to root my MUi ROM through easy process.. Also If I failed to install rooting process, Is there a way to restore or backup ROM settings so that everything goes to normal as the way they were before.
Need seniors guide how to install by step by step and which things to check before installing MUI rooted ROM like ROM versions etc and compatibility
If there is any youtube tutorial please share link with me for my global version.

1st things first, you need to unlock your bootloader before you can root anything. Doing this will delete everything and factory reset device. Don't think, not being rooted, there's anyway to effectively backup app data and device settings.
i'll have a look in a bit, but have search in this forum for how to root miui or root stock rom
ok, so like i mentioned before, you have to unlock your bootloader. My Pad 5 is already unlocked and has been for a long time, i don't currently have any other devices running miui, so i'm only suggesting what to from memory. Please read up before doing anything drastic!!
1. Sign in to your Xiaomi account on the phone if you aren't already.
2. Enable OEM unlock in settings, tap on build MIUI version 7 times to enable developer options. Go to developer options in settings and enable USB debugging and OEM unlocking.
3. Go here and download + install mi unlock tool. Follow instructions on that page for further info.
While you wait for the bootloader to be unlocked (which WILL ERASE the device when you do) - takes up to 7 days for unlock to be granted by Xiaomi - have a read of the root guide thread you have posted your other post in. Read that guide thoroughly and follow it to the letter. Also, here's a Youtube video that i searched for you.
I know it's hard in the begining not to ask a ton of questions but do read AS MUCH AS AS POSSIBLE and use the search function before posting questions...
Good luck

Also if I root my device, is there a way to unroot my device and make it like normal?
xiaomi devices have code names that the general public aren't usually aware of. Pad 5 is called Nabu. Poco F3 is Alioth etc etc.
Yes. you root it by flashing a magisk patched boot img, then unroot by flashing an unrooted boot img (and uninstall root apps/modules etc

got it, One more thing I want to ask, I successfully binded my account with OEM Unlocking and it says " My Mi account is associated with this device now.“ when i was following OEM Unlocking process. and on MUIUNLOCK tool on PC, it says try after 7 days and dont login to MUI Account. But when I restarted my tablet , My account was logged in to MUI Account. Is there any problem or should I check after 7 days
